An evening of shuttling between a venue and a hotel is six or eight short legs rather than one journey, and a device built around a one, two or three hour timer behaves quite differently under that pattern. The question is not whether the timer is long enough. It is when in each leg you press the button.
Quick answers — read this first
Should the diffuser be restarted for every trip, or left off for the evening? Either is defensible, and the deciding factor is how many legs there are. The Safar runs one, two or three hours at a chosen speed and then switches itself off, so an evening of eight short runs means eight deliberate starts. If you are willing to do that, start it a few minutes before each group gets in, at the lowest speed, and let it stop on its own. If you are going to be in and out of conversations all evening and will forget, leave it off and let the car be quiet - which on a night when everybody is dressed and wearing something is a perfectly good outcome anyway.

Why start it before the leg rather than during it? Because a device started after everybody is seated spends the first part of the journey coming up to level while they are already in the car, so the thing they notice is the change rather than the cabin. Started a few minutes earlier, with the doors shut, it has settled by the time anybody opens a door, and all they get is a cabin. On a ten-minute leg that difference is most of the journey. It is also easier to judge: you can open a rear door before the group arrives and decide whether the level is where you want it, which is impossible once you are driving.

Does the one-hour setting cover several short legs at once? It will run for an hour regardless of what the car is doing, so yes, it can span two or three short runs and the waiting between them. Whether that is what you want is a different question. If the car sits empty with the doors shut for twenty minutes between legs, an hour of continuous running means the cabin is being added to while nobody is in it, and the next group opens the door onto the accumulated result. On an evening of short runs I would rather press the button more often at the lowest speed than leave it running through the gaps.
The short answer
Short answer: Start it before each leg rather than during one, at the lowest speed, and let the one, two or three hour timer stop it by itself. Across an evening of eight short runs that is eight deliberate starts, so if you will not remember, leave it off - a quiet cabin on a night when everybody is dressed and wearing something is a good outcome rather than a failure.
The pick: If you want the control, the SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 with its one, two or three hour timer. If you would rather have nothing to remember across eight legs, SOSA Jasmine hanging at ₹449 and no button at all.
Next step: Tell us how many legs the evening involves, how long each one is and who is travelling, and we will tell you whether to run it or leave it. Ask SOSA which format suits your driving.
Before the leg, not during itOne, two or three hours, then it stopsEight short legs means eight deliberate startsStarted mid-journey, they notice the changeLowest speed, and let the timer end itIf you will forget, simply leave it off
The timer is a feature on a ten-minute leg and a limit across a long evening. Both facts are worth planning around rather than discovering.
Straight answer
Restart the diffuser for every short leg, or leave it off for the whole evening?
Both are reasonable, and the number of legs decides it. Start from the specification rather than the preference. The SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 has three speeds and a one, two or three hour auto-off timer. It runs for the period you choose and then stops by itself. On a single forty-minute journey that is close to ideal: you set it, it works, it ends. On an evening of ten-minute shuttles between a venue and a hotel it is a different proposition, because eight legs means eight separate decisions, and you will be making them in a car park between conversations. If you are going to run it, the habit that matters is when you press the button. Start it a few minutes before each group gets in, with the doors shut, at the lowest of the three speeds. A device started after everybody is seated spends the first part of a short leg coming up to level while they are already in the car, so what registers is the change rather than the cabin - and on a ten-minute run, that is most of the journey. Started early, it has settled before anybody opens a door. It also gives you the only decent chance to judge it: open a rear door before the group walks over and decide then, because once you are driving you cannot. What I would not do is leave it running through the gaps. An hour of continuous running while the car sits empty with its doors shut means the cabin is accumulating with nobody in it, and the next group opens the door onto all of it at once. Pressing the button more often at a lower speed is better than pressing it less often at a higher one. And the honest alternative is to leave it off. On an evening when everybody is dressed and wearing a fragrance they chose for the function, a quiet cabin is not a failure, it is the correct setting, and a hanging bottle at ₹449 that has been in the car for weeks needs no habit, no button and no attention across eight legs. If the evening is going to be busy, that is the format I would choose. Tell us how the evening is laid out and we will tell you which legs are worth running at all.
Start it a few minutes before each group gets in, at the lowest speed, and let the timer stop it. If you will forget, leave it off.
The relevant specification for an evening like this is the timer rather than the battery. The SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 runs one, two or three hours at one of three speeds and then switches off, cold-diffusing undiluted oil with no water and no heat, on 2000mAh over Type-C. SOSA publishes no coverage figure, so decide the speed from the rear row rather than from a number, and keep it at the lowest one that you can detect from there.

What suits an evening of short runs

Sizing honesty for a short-leg evening. A device is not better than a bottle here, it is simply different: it gives you a level you choose each time and asks you to remember a button, while a hanging bottle gives you a level you cannot change and asks nothing. If the evening will be busy and you are also hosting, the bottle is very often the right call, and it is the cheaper one.

Three things an evening of short legs changes

Three things change when one journey becomes eight short ones.

1
First, the timing of the start
A device started mid-leg announces itself
On a ten-minute run, a device that takes a few minutes to settle is settling for most of the journey, and what people register is a cabin that is changing around them rather than a cabin that simply is. Start it before the doors open instead - a few minutes earlier, with the car shut - and by the time anybody gets in there is nothing to notice. The second advantage is that you can actually check it: open a rear door while the car is still empty and decide whether the level is where you want it. Once you are driving, that option is gone, and your own nose has been in the car all evening anyway. Early starts give you both a settled cabin and a chance to judge it.
Tip: Make the start part of walking back to the car, not part of getting in.
2
Second, the gaps between legs
An hour of running while the car sits empty is an hour wasted into a closed cabin
On a shuttle evening the car spends as much time parked as moving. If a one-hour timer is running through a twenty-minute wait with the doors shut, the cabin is being added to with nobody in it, and the next group opens the door onto the accumulated result rather than onto the level you chose. The fix is unglamorous: press the button more often at a lower speed rather than less often at a higher one, and let it stop between legs. If the car is parked somewhere shaded, leaving a window slightly open during a long gap does more for the next leg than any setting does, and costs nothing.
SOSA Safar
Three speeds and a one, two or three hour timer, so a short leg can run low and stop before the next group arrives.

3
Third, whether you will remember
The honest comparison is control against attention
A device gives you a level you choose for each leg and asks you to remember a button eight times in an evening while you are also hosting, parking, finding people and carrying things. A hanging bottle gives you a level you cannot change and asks nothing of you at all. Neither is better in the abstract. If you are the person doing the driving and nothing else, take the control. If you are in the middle of the function, take the bottle - and buy it weeks earlier so that by the evening itself it is well past its loudest phase. The third option, which is better than both on a night when everybody is wearing something, is to leave the cabin quiet and spend the attention elsewhere.
The SOSA principle
The timer is a feature on a ten-minute leg and a limit across an eight-leg evening. Plan for both rather than discovering both.
And on a night when everybody is dressed and scented, leaving it off is a legitimate answer rather than a lapse.
SOSA Safar
If you want the control: The Safar at ₹3,999 - three speeds and a one, two or three hour auto-off timer. Started before each leg at the lowest speed, it is settled before the doors open.

The three formats, side by side

The evening, as a sequence, so that the button becomes a habit rather than a decision.

The SOSA plan
One leg, from the car park
The moment What to do
SOSA SafarWalking back to the car
Start it then, at the lowest of the three speeds, with the doors shut. This is the whole habit, and it is the part people get wrong.
While the car is still empty
Open a rear door and decide whether the level is where you want it. This is the only point in the leg when you can usefully judge it.
The leg itself
Nothing. Do not adjust it while driving, and do not top it up because you can no longer detect it - that is adaptation, not a weak cabin.
The gap before the next leg
Let the timer stop. Clear out whatever the leg left behind, and in a long gap leave a window slightly open if the car is parked in shade.

The long-journey version of the same arithmetic is in why two hours in a closed cabin argues for less, and the whole evening sits inside the routine described in the five variables that decide an SUV on a wedding day. SOSA is an independent Indian brand and is not affiliated with any perfume house or car manufacturer.

The limits on a device page. SOSA publishes no coverage figure for the Safar - no area, no volume, nothing - so this page gives none, and a claim that a device is enough for a seven-seater is not a specification. No consumption rate is published either, so there is no arithmetic here about how many legs a bottle of oil covers or what an evening costs to run. SOSA's own page says the Safar is aroma only and does not humidify, and that is the whole of what that means. A fragrance adds scent, and we make no claim that it removes, masks or absorbs a smell with a source.

A note from Sonal

The shuttle evening is the pattern our own timer suits least well, and I would rather say that plainly than pretend otherwise. One, two or three hours and then off is a lovely specification for a single journey. For eight ten-minute runs between a venue and a hotel it turns into eight decisions, taken in a car park, by somebody who is also trying to find their aunt. That is not a design flaw, it is just a mismatch worth knowing about before the evening rather than during it.

If you do run it, make the start part of walking back to the car rather than part of getting in. Lowest speed. Doors shut. Then open a rear door while the car is still empty and decide whether you like the level, because that is the only moment in the whole leg when your judgement is any use at all. And do not top it up mid-journey because you can no longer detect it - you cannot detect it because you have been in there all evening, which is ordinary adaptation.

The usual precision, which I would rather repeat than leave implied. This is an ambience decision and not a claim about what any passenger will feel, think or decide, and nothing to do with health, driving, concentration or attention. A fragrance adds scent and we make no claim that it removes, masks or absorbs a smell with a source, and SOSA's own description of the Safar is aroma only. The owner of the car decides, and anybody in it should be able to have it turned down without asking twice. Everything is made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

Should I restart the diffuser for each short trip?
If you are using one, yes, and start it a few minutes before each group gets in rather than during the journey. It runs one, two or three hours and then stops, so an evening of eight legs means eight deliberate starts. If you know you will forget half of them, leave it off instead.
Why does it matter whether I start it before or during the leg?
On a ten-minute run, a device started once everybody is seated is coming up to level for most of the journey, so what registers is the change rather than the cabin. Started a few minutes earlier with the doors shut, it has settled, and you can open a rear door to check the level before anybody arrives.
Can I just leave it running for the whole evening?
You can, but the car is parked as much as it is moving, so an hour of running through a twenty-minute wait means the cabin is accumulating with nobody in it. The next group then opens the door onto all of it. Press the button more often at a lower speed instead, and let it stop between legs.
Is a hanging bottle better for an evening of short runs?
Often, yes. There is no button to remember across eight legs and nothing to decide at the kerb, and a bottle bought weeks earlier is already quiet. The trade is that you cannot lower it for a particular group, though you can lift it off the mirror and put it in the glovebox in about ten seconds.
How long does the Safar run on a charge?
Up to about ten hours continuous or around thirty hours intermittent from its 2000mAh battery over Type-C, which is more than an evening of short legs needs. The constraint on a shuttle night is not the battery, it is the one, two or three hour timer and whether you remember to press the button.
SOSA Waterless Nebuliser Refill
If you already own the device: The waterless refill at ₹1,049 for 100gm or ₹1,849 for 300gm across sixteen scents. For a short-leg evening, though, what you want is a lower speed rather than more oil.

SOSA makes no claim that any fragrance affects alertness, drowsiness, concentration, driving, mood, nausea or travel sickness, and no claim that any product cleans, purifies, sanitises, disinfects, removes or neutralises an odour - a fragrance adds scent and is never a substitute for cleaning a cabin or fixing the source of a smell.
