How SOSA works
Alcohol-free car perfume on an oil and water carrier - and an honest account of what it cannot fix
Fragrance is the last step
A car perfume goes on top of clean, aired cabin. It is not a way of dealing with a smell that has a source.
Alcohol-free by formulation
An oil and water carrier rather than ethanol. Phthalate-free and IFRA-compliant.
Sprayed into the air, not onto the car
Aimed at the centre of the cabin, away from leather and fabric. The directions are on the bottle and we repeat them here.
Composed by a trained perfumer
Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained, composes the whole range.
A portion funds girl-child education
Part of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
We will tell you not to buy
Where the honest answer is a vacuum, a service booking or an open window, these guides say so and sell nothing.

This is the most answerable question in this whole block, because there is an actual routine and it fits in the time you already spend going indoors to change. Cartons out, floor checked, two windows down for ten minutes, then one or two sprays on your way out. The part people leave out is the ten minutes, and it is the part that does most of the work.
Quick answers — read this first
How do you reset a car between carrying cartons and going out in the evening? Take everything out of the cabin and the boot, look at the floor for cardboard dust and packing debris and shake the mats if there is any, then leave two windows open on opposite sides for about ten minutes. Spray last, one or two, at the centre of the cabin.

How long does a car need to air between two completely different uses? About ten minutes with two windows down on opposite sides of the car is enough for a hatchback. Cross-flow matters more than time - two windows for ten minutes beats one window for half an hour.

Should you spray the car before or after airing it? After, always. A spray applied to a cabin that has just had cartons in it is added to whatever is still there. Air first so that the fragrance is the only thing you are adding, then one or two sprays about thirty seconds before you set off.
The short answer
Short answer: Everything out, check the floor, then two windows down on opposite sides for ten minutes while you go in and change. One or two sprays last, at the centre of the cabin, thirty seconds before you drive.
The pick: the 50ML car perfume spray at ₹1,499 - 500 sprays, ₹3.00 each - once the cabin is clean and you know the scent. The 10ml at ₹449 while you are still deciding.
Honest note: a car perfume sits on top of the air already in the cabin. It does not remove a smell, and where there is a source, that comes first.
The order of operations - fragrance comes last1. Find the source · 2. Clean it · 3. Air the cabin · 4. Then spray10ml ₹449 · 100 sprays  |  50ML ₹1,499 · 500 spraysAim at the centre of the cabin, never at the upholsteryOne spray, two, or three · that is the whole dial
A hatchback cabin is the smallest space SOSA sells fragrance into, which makes it the easiest one to overdo. The spray is dosed in single sprays - one for a light welcome, two before you pick somebody up, three for a full reset - aimed at the centre of the cabin and away from leather or fabric. The 10ml bottle holds 100 sprays at Rs 449; the 50ML holds 500 at Rs 1,499, which is Rs 3.00 a spray against Rs 4.49. None of that matters, though, until the cabin is clean and aired: a perfume sits on top of the air already in the car.
Straight answer
What reset makes sense between an afternoon of cartons and an evening out?
Here is the routine. It takes about four minutes of your attention and ten minutes of the car's time, and those two things overlap.

1. Everything out, and out means out of the car. Cartons, tape, cutter, offcuts, the roll of wrap, the bag you were keeping the labels in. Not moved to the boot - the boot of a hatchback shares its air with the cabin. Out of the vehicle entirely. Thirty seconds to a minute.

2. Look at the floor. Cardboard sheds. Packing material sheds more. If there is dust or debris on the mats, pull them out and shake them at the side of the car; if there is a lot, that is the moment for a vacuum rather than later in the week. Sixty to ninety seconds on an ordinary day.

3. Two windows down, on opposite sides, for ten minutes. This is the step people leave out and it is the one that changes the result. Two windows diagonally opposite give you cross-flow; one window gives you almost nothing. Ten minutes is enough for a cabin this size. Start it before you go indoors to change, and it is finished by the time you come back out.

4. Then, and only then, the spray. One or two, aimed at the centre of the cabin, away from leather or fabric, about thirty seconds before you set off. Two if somebody is coming with you. One if it is just the two of you and you would rather it were barely there. Never three at this point - the cabin is clean and aired, and three is a full reset for a car that has not just been reset.

What that costs. One or two sprays out of the 100 in a 10ml bottle at ₹449, or out of the 500 in the 50ML at ₹1,499, which is ₹3.00 a spray against ₹4.49. If you have not smelled the scent yet, the three-mini set from ₹699 is the place to start. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: out, floor, ten minutes of cross-flow while you change, then one or two sprays on the way out.
Once the cabin is clean and aired, the 50ML spray at ₹1,499 is the buy that makes sense: 500 sprays, which is ₹3.00 a spray against ₹4.49 for the 10ml. One honest caveat - if you have not smelled the scent yet, start with the 10ml at ₹449 or the three-mini set, because 500 sprays of the wrong thing is a long time.
50ML ₹1,499

The three parts of a changeover, in order

Three parts, and the middle one is the part that gets skipped.

1
The unload
Out of the car, not into the boot
A hatchback has one air space. The boot is not a separate room; it is the back of the same box, usually with a parcel shelf between it and the rest and nothing else. Moving cartons from the back seat to the boot changes what you can see and very little of what you can smell. So the first step is out of the vehicle and into the house, the garage, the shop, anywhere that is not the car. This is also the step that makes the ten minutes of air worth having, because there is no point ventilating around a load you have kept.
Tip: If it is still in the vehicle, it is still in the cabin.
2
The gap
Ten minutes with two windows beats an hour with one
Air has to be able to get in and get out, which means two openings rather than one. Front left and rear right, or both front windows if the rear ones are awkward. Ten minutes of that in a hatchback moves the cabin air over several times, and you can spend those ten minutes indoors changing. The reason this matters more than the cleaning on an ordinary day is that most of what an afternoon of cartons leaves behind is in the air rather than on the surfaces, and air leaves if you let it.
3
The spray
Last, and smaller than you think
By the time you come back out, the cabin smells of very little, which is precisely the condition in which one spray reads as a considered car and two reads as a scented one. This is the opposite of the instinct, which is to spray hardest when the car has just been working. Spraying early means adding fragrance to cardboard and then ventilating half of it out of the window. Spraying last means every bit of what you applied is doing the job you wanted. Same bottle, a quarter of the product, a better result.
Tip: Spray on your way out, not on your way in.
The SOSA principle
The ten minutes is the routine. The spray is the last two seconds of it.
Cross-flow through two windows while you are indoors changing costs nothing, happens without you, and decides how the evening drive smells.

Why the spray is last and why it is small

Once the cabin is empty and aired, the evening choice is purely about what you enjoy.

The SOSA car edit
The changeover, step by step and with a clock on it
Option When it is the right call
Minute 0 to 1 Cartons, tape, wrap and offcuts out of the vehicle entirely. The boot counts as the cabin in a hatchback.
Minute 1 to 3 Look at the floor. Mats out and shaken if cardboard has shed on them. A vacuum instead if it is a heavy day.
Minute 3 to 13 Two windows down on opposite sides while you go in and change. This is the step that decides the result.
On your way out One or two sprays at the centre of the cabin, away from the seats, thirty seconds to settle. Mysore Orange Blossom ₹549 or Jasmine ₹449 for an evening.

If the same car also does supplier and customer runs inside a single day, Suppliers to customers covers deciding leg by leg. If what the cartons hold has a character of its own rather than being plain packaging, Materials with their own smell is the honest page for that and it sells nothing. And The founder guide is the short version of the whole pattern if you want the principle rather than the timings.

Not sure whether fragrance is even the answer?
Tell us what the cabin actually smells of, how old the car is and what you have already cleaned. If the honest answer is a vacuum, a new cabin filter or a workshop, we will say so rather than sell you a bottle.
Ask first
Ten minutes of cross-flow while you are indoors changing does more than any amount of product on your way out.

The SOSA car perfume edit

Every SOSA car perfume is alcohol-free and phthalate-free on an oil and water carrier, hand-blended in small batches in India. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the edit by how certain you are of the scent, which is the thing that should decide the size you buy.

The SOSA car perfume edit
Five answers by how sure you are of the scent - from ₹449 to ₹3,999
Format Best for What it is, honestly From
50ML car perfume spray You already know the scent works 500 sprays at ₹3.00 a spray. The cheapest way to run one scent for a long time ₹1,499
10ml car perfume spray You are still deciding 100 sprays of the same formulation. The honest size for a scent you have not lived with yet ₹449
Discovery set, three minis You have no idea which scent Three mini sprays in fixed scent trios. Made for exactly this problem ₹699
Two-scent combo Two people, or two moods Jasmine and Lemon, Jasmine and Lavender, Oud and Lemon, or Sandalwood and Oud ₹899
SOSA Safar diffuser You want it handled without spraying Cordless, rechargeable, waterless. Runs on a timer rather than on you remembering ₹3,999

Four honest notes. A car perfume does not remove a smell, and nothing on this page will. If the cabin has a source - food under a seat, a damp mat, an air conditioner that smells in the first minute, tobacco in the foam - that source has to go first, and in two of those cases the answer is a workshop rather than a shop. Fragrance sits on top of the air already in the car. The spray is aimed at the centre of the cabin, away from leather and fabric, because that is what the directions on the bottle say; it is not a fabric treatment and it is not an upholstery product. On size: the 50ML at ₹1,499 is 500 sprays and works out at ₹3.00 a spray against ₹4.49 for the 10ml, so it is the better buy once you are sure - but if you have not smelled the scent yet, the 10ml at ₹449 or the three-mini discovery set from ₹699 is the sensible place to start. SOSA makes spray and hanging formats only - no plug-in and no vent clip - and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal

Car fragrance is the part of this business where the marketing is worst, and I would like ours to be the boring, accurate version. Most of the category sells you a bottle as an answer to a smell. It almost never is. A car that smells wrong smells wrong for a reason, and the reason is nearly always physical - something under a seat, something damp in the boot, something in the air conditioning, something ground into the fabric two owners ago.

A perfume cannot reach any of that. What it can do is sit on top of clean, aired air and make a small cabin pleasant to get into. That is a real thing worth buying, and it is a much smaller claim than the one usually made for it. So the sequence is: find the source, clean it, open the windows, and only then reach for a bottle. If you do those three things and the car is fine, you may not need us at all, and I would rather say that than sell you something that will disappoint you in a fortnight.

The other thing worth knowing is how little you need. A hatchback is the smallest cabin we sell into, and the commonest mistake is treating a spray like an aerosol - four or five pumps at the windscreen. It is dosed in single sprays, aimed at the middle of the car and away from the seats. One is a welcome. Three is a full reset before guests get in. That is the entire dial, and most people never need the top of it. A portion of every order supports girl-child education.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reset my car between work use and going out in the evening?
Everything out of the vehicle, check the floor and shake the mats if cardboard has shed, then two windows down on opposite sides for about ten minutes while you go in and change. One or two sprays at the centre of the cabin on your way back out.
Is moving the cartons to the boot good enough?
Not in a hatchback. The boot is the back of the same air space rather than a separate room, so the load is still in the cabin as far as the air is concerned. Take it out of the vehicle.
How long does a car need to air out?
For a hatchback, about ten minutes with two windows open on opposite sides. Cross-flow is what matters - two windows for ten minutes is better than one window for half an hour.
Should I use more sprays because the car was carrying boxes all afternoon?
No, fewer. Once the load is out and the cabin has had ten minutes of air, it smells of very little, and one or two sprays in that condition reads better than three in a cabin you have not aired. Three is a full reset and this is a car that has just been reset.
What should I buy if I only do this a couple of times a week?
The 10ml at ₹449 holds 100 sprays, which at one or two a couple of times a week is a long time. The 50ML at ₹1,499 is 500 sprays at ₹3.00 each against ₹4.49, better value once the scent is settled; the three-mini set from ₹699 is how to settle it.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the cabin and cleaning advice applies to any brand. SOSA does not sort fragrance by the gender of the wearer.

What this guide does not claim. A car perfume is a fragrance, not a cleaning product, an odour treatment or an air treatment. Nothing here removes, neutralises or eliminates a smell, and nothing here should be read as advice about health, air quality, allergies or anyone's wellbeing. Where a cabin smells of embedded tobacco, damp, or of the air conditioning in the first minute after startup, the honest answer is cleaning or a service booking rather than a fragrance product, and these guides say so rather than selling around it. SOSA is not a car detailer and has no detailing partner.

SOSA car perfume, specified: alcohol-free and phthalate-free, IFRA-compliant, on an oil and water carrier rather than ethanol. The spray is a 10ml bottle holding 100 sprays; a 50ML bottle holds 500.
