A car is the smallest space any of us scents, and the one we sit closest to. Two or three cubic metres of air, a metre from your face, with the windows up and the heater on for four months of the year. I say this to customers constantly and it still surprises people: almost every car fragrance problem I am sent is a dose problem, not a scent problem. The bottle is not weak and the oil is not wrong. The cabin simply gives fragrance nowhere to go, and winter takes away the little ventilation that was rescuing you in October.
That is why we sell the hanging bottle and the spray at the same price. They are the same oil. One gives you a mild level that is always there and asks nothing of you; the other gives you a strong level the moment you decide you want one. Neither is the better product, and pricing them differently would only push people toward whichever we wanted to sell. Choose by how you drive: a long daily commute is a hanging car, a car that matters most when somebody else gets into it is a spray car, and plenty of people quite sensibly run both.

Should I hang a second bottle at the back of my Fortuner?
It is the obvious idea and it usually disappoints, so it is worth thinking through before you spend. Two sources do put fragrance nearer the rear, but they also double what a closed cabin is holding, and the front seats still sit right underneath one of them - so the common result is a car that is overwhelming where you sit and still uneven where you wanted help. Winter makes that worse, because a heated cabin with the windows up exchanges almost no air, so everything you add stays. If you do try it, tighten both stoppers considerably first and judge the result by getting out and coming back in with a fresh nose. In most large SUVs the better answer is a single hanging bottle at the mirror for the continuous baseline, plus a spray of the same scent - same price - used low toward the rear footwells before passengers actually get in. Wherever you hang anything, it must be small, secure and never in the driver's view of the road.
Is a car perfume spray stronger than a hanging bottle?
It gives a stronger throw at the moment you use it, and that is a difference in job rather than in quality. Both formats are the same oil, at the same price, with the same alcohol-free, phthalate-free, IFRA-compliant composition. The hanging 12ml is labelled mild scent-throw and works continuously through the cabin's own air movement for four to six weeks, with an adjustable stopper. The 10ml spray is labelled strong scent-throw and gives you that strength on demand, at 100 sprays a bottle - about fifty days at two a day, or three months and more at one a day. So a spray is the right tool for putting fragrance somewhere specific at a chosen moment, such as the rear footwells before passengers arrive, and the hanging bottle is the right tool for a steady background you never have to think about. In a large SUV, most people end up wanting both, which is why they are priced identically.
How long should a hanging bottle last in a Fortuner, and does the bigger cabin use it faster?
SOSA's stated life for the hanging 12ml is four to six weeks, and that is the range to plan around in any car. Cabin size is not really what moves it within that range - what moves it is heat and use. A car that runs a heater for two hours a day, or sits in the sun, works through a bottle nearer the four-week end, because warmer air raises evaporation from the source; a car used briefly in mild weather sits nearer six. Tightening the stopper slows the rate at which the bottle empties as well as lowering the level, so the two adjustments work together. When it is done, a 15ml refill from Rs 399 refills the same glass for another four to six weeks and saves Rs 50 to Rs 60 against a new bottle: unscrew the cap, lift out the reed stick, pour slowly, wipe the neck, drop the reed back, re-cap, hang it and let it settle for about an hour while the reed re-saturates.
Can I make the fragrance last longer by keeping the vents closed?
No, and please do not. Fresh air in a shared cabin matters more than fragrance, and reducing ventilation to make a scent linger is exactly the wrong trade - especially in winter, when a closed heated car already exchanges almost no air and is already making everything read stronger than it did in autumn. If anything, the direction of travel is the opposite: air the car for a minute or two when you set off, and if the fragrance feels heavy, tighten the stopper rather than sealing the cabin. Running the fan actually helps you here, because a hanging bottle relies on air movement to distribute at all, so airflow improves how far the fragrance travels down a long cabin rather than wasting it. If a fragrance in a closed car is giving you or a passenger a headache, treat that as a signal to reduce the dose, air the car or change scent - never as a reason to shut the vents.
