Founder Diaries · Attar Gifting
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 9 min read Updated September 2026
Start with the arithmetic, because it decides more here than the sentiment does. A thousand rupees is a real ceiling, not a rounded-off way of saying you have not thought about it, and the useful thing to know before you shop is that it lands between two sizes rather than on one. What you do with the gap is most of the answer.
Quick answers — read this first
What can you buy for a two-month-old relationship with a budget of Rs 1,000? A 6ML attar roll-on at ₹669 to ₹699, with about ₹300 left over for the evening. The 12ML sizes begin at ₹1,149, so a thousand does not reach one - and the 6ML is the size this stage wants anyway.

Is a fragrance too much for two months in? No. A fragrance is personal because it is worn, and that is equally true of a ₹379 bottle and a ₹4,000 one. What makes a birthday gift feel heavy is the amount and whether it arrives with an occasion attached, and a birthday supplies the occasion for you.

How do you choose a scent for somebody you have known two months? From something they have said out loud - a note they like, a perfume they used to wear, a smell they reacted to. If you have nothing, the three-attar set at ₹1,055 hands the choosing to them rather than guessing on their behalf.
The short answer
Short answer: A thousand rupees buys the 6ML at ₹669 to ₹699 and leaves roughly ₹300 - and the remainder is better spent on the evening than on a bigger bottle.
The pick: an attar roll-on - 3ML ₹379, 6ML ₹669, 12ML ₹1,149. The same oil, sized to the relationship.
Honest note: a smaller bottle lowers the price, not the register - it is still worn on skin, so occasion and setting do the rest.
Attar gifting - at a glanceA smaller bottle lowers the price, not the register3ML ₹379 · 6ML ₹669 · 12ML ₹1,149 - the same oilOccasion and setting decide how a gift readsAlcohol-free · worn at the wrist
SOSA's four attars come in three sizes of the same oil: 3ML from Rs 379, 6ML from Rs 669 and 12ML from Rs 1,149. Buying the smaller bottle makes a fragrance gift affordable for a relationship that would not carry a Rs 5,000 perfume. It does not make the gift less personal - an attar is worn on skin at any size, so the occasion you give it at and the reason you chose it are what set the register.
Straight answer
What do you give someone in Bengaluru you have been seeing for two months, with about ₹1,000?
The budget answers itself once you know the sizes, so here it is plainly.

The honest answer: a 6ML attar at ₹669 to ₹699. Adaa is bergamot, green cardamom and jasmine sambac over white musk; Ameeri is Taif rose with Indian sandalwood and Persian saffron; Mastani is night-blooming jasmine with damask rose and oudh; Nawaab is white royal oud with Mysore sandalwood. Alcohol-free oil in a roll-on, applied at the wrist rather than sprayed.

Why not the bigger bottle. Because you cannot have it at this budget, and it is better to read that here than at checkout. No 12ML is under ₹1,000 - they run ₹1,149 to ₹1,199. A thousand rupees is about ₹150 short, which is the most irritating possible distance to be out by. The 6ML is not a downgrade you settled for; it is the size that fits.

What to do with the remaining ₹300. Put it into the evening rather than into millilitres. A gift handed over across a table on their birthday reads completely differently from the same object handed over at a doorway with nothing around it, and ₹300 of dinner buys more of that difference than ₹300 of extra oil ever will.

If you genuinely do not know their taste. The three-attar set at ₹1,055 is Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani, which converts a guess into their decision. It is a fixed set of three and Adaa is not in it, so if the brighter citrus style is the one you had in mind, that is a separate bottle. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: buy the 6ML at ₹669, spend the last ₹300 on the evening, and let the birthday carry the register.
The same oil comes in three sizes, so buy the one the relationship carries: 3ML at ₹379 for a gesture, 6ML at ₹669 for the honest middle, 12ML at ₹1,149 when it should last. Worth knowing before you plan: no 12ML is under ₹1,000.
from ₹379

What a thousand rupees actually buys, and where the rest of it should go

Three things decide how this lands, and only the first is about money.

1
The ceiling
A thousand rupees sits between two sizes, so know which one it reaches
This is the practical part and it is worth being exact. A 3ML attar is ₹379 to ₹399. A 6ML is ₹669 to ₹699. The 12ML sizes begin at ₹1,149 and climb to ₹1,199, so a thousand-rupee budget lands cleanly on the 6ML and just short of the larger bottle. Plan around the 6ML from the start rather than discovering the gap at the payment screen and either overspending in a hurry or buying something worse to stay under the line.
Tip: Set the size before you browse. The band decides it, and at ₹1,000 the band decides on the 6ML.
2
Register
The smaller bottle costs less, and that is the only thing it lowers
Worth saying because a lot of gifting advice has this backwards. The same oil goes into the 3ML, the 6ML and the 12ML - you are buying a different amount, not a diluted version, and a fragrance is worn on skin whatever size it arrived in. So buying the 6ML has not made the gift casual. It has made it affordable. If a worn scent genuinely feels like more than two months carries, the fix is a different category or the trio at ₹1,055 that lets them choose, not a smaller bottle of the same thing.

Bengaluru
Two months in a city you both moved to has a particular shape
Here is where the city earns its place on this page rather than being pasted on. A great many people in Bengaluru moved there for work, which means a two-month-old relationship usually sits inside a circle of friendships that are themselves fairly recent, and the families who would otherwise turn a birthday gift into a statement are several hundred kilometres away. That is genuinely useful: the gift will be seen by friends rather than relatives, so it is being read as a nice thing you did rather than as an announcement. It is also why the remainder is best spent on the evening - the people around you are the occasion.
Tip: Attach the gift to the birthday plan. An unexplained present gets explained by the person receiving it.
The SOSA principle
At ₹1,000 the question is not which bottle is more personal. It is which bottle the money actually reaches.
The answer is the 6ML, and the ₹300 left over does more for the evening than it would have done for the millilitres.

Choosing the scent when two months is all you have

Two months is enough to have heard something. Use whatever that was, and buy no more specifically than it justifies.

The SOSA gift edit
What ₹1,000 buys, and what each option says
Option Who it suits, and what it costs
You want something alongside the dinner, not instead of it A 3ML attar at ₹379. The same oil, a smaller amount, and most of the budget still on the evening.
The straight answer at this budget A 6ML attar at ₹679. Clearly chosen, clearly not a declaration, and it fits with room to spare.
You have no idea what they like The three-attar set at ₹1,055 - Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani, fixed, no Adaa. They choose.
You are further along than two months suggests A 12ML at ₹1,199 - the size somebody finishes. It is over the thousand, so decide on purpose.

If what is bothering you is the stage rather than the sum, Rs 1,000, new relationship works through the same budget without the city attached. For the wider view across Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Mysuru at this band, All three cities is the overview. The four attars are where this starts.

Five answers by what the relationship carries - from a ₹379 gesture to a ₹1,199 bottle
Gift Best for What it says, and what it costs From
Attar 3ML Under ₹500 · a small gesture The same oil as the larger sizes. A host gift, a thank-you, an add-on to something else ₹379
Attar 6ML ₹500 to ₹1,000 · the honest middle Where most of this gifting actually sits - substantial without being a statement ₹669
Attar 12ML ₹1,000 to ₹1,500 · lasts The size somebody finishes rather than samples. Note it is never under ₹1,000 ₹1,149
Attar trio, 3ML x 3 When you want them to choose Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani - a fixed set of three. Adaa is not in it ₹1,055
Solid perfume tin 15g When a roll-on is not right Solid balm in a metal tin - nothing to spill, nothing to leak in a bag ₹500

Four honest notes. There is exactly one reed diffuser combo on the store - Morning Freshness paired with Evening Calm, in two sizes. If the point of the gift is letting the recipient choose their scents, that means two single reeds, and they arrive as two boxes rather than one set; we would rather say so than pretend a wider combo range exists. Reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil, sold as 300ML and 500ML refills of each scent; the Hotel Collection is a separate water-based fragrance for ultrasonic mist diffusers, and SOSA Safar takes its own waterless nebuliser oil - three systems, none interchangeable. The hotel-inspired scents are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. Vaayu, Angaan and Meenar are whole-space machines held in single or double-digit quantities, so they are an enquiry rather than an add-to-cart, and we quote no lead times we cannot keep. A note from Sonal

There is a gap in gifting that almost nobody sells into honestly. You want to give somebody fragrance - a colleague who covered for you, somebody you have been seeing for six weeks, a cousin you are fond of - and every option in front of you is either a keyring or a four-thousand-rupee bottle. The keyring says nothing. The bottle says far too much.

That gap is the reason we sell the same oil in three sizes. A 3ML at ₹379, a 6ML at ₹669, a 12ML at ₹1,149 - identical composition, identical concentration, different amounts of it. Buying the smaller bottle is not buying a lesser version. It is buying the right amount for the relationship.

But I want to be straight about what size does and does not change, because a lot of gifting advice gets this backwards. A smaller bottle lowers the price. It does not lower the register. An attar is worn on skin at any size, and choosing a scent for somebody is still a choice about how they smell. What actually makes a gift proportionate is the occasion you attach it to, whether you hand it over in front of other people, and whether you picked it from something they actually said. Get those right and a ₹379 bottle lands perfectly. Get them wrong and no size fixes it. A portion of every order supports girl-child education.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a 12ML attar for around ₹1,000?
No. The 12ML sizes are ₹1,149 for Adaa, ₹1,165 for Ameeri, ₹1,179 for Mastani and ₹1,199 for Nawaab, so a thousand-rupee budget does not quite reach one. The 6ML at ₹669 to ₹699 is the honest answer here, and it is the right size for two months in rather than a consolation.
Is fragrance too personal a gift two months into a relationship?
Not by itself. It is personal because it is worn, and that is just as true at ₹379 as at ₹4,000. What makes a gift feel like a statement is the amount and the absence of an occasion, and a birthday removes the second problem entirely.
Does buying the smaller bottle make the gift look cheap?
Not if the scent was chosen for a reason they can see. A ₹669 attar picked because they once said they like rose reads as attention paid. A larger bottle picked off a bestseller list reads as a transaction. The visible reason carries a gift at this stage, not the volume.
Can I buy this in Bengaluru, or does it have to be ordered?
It is ordered. SOSA is an online fragrance house that ships across India and does not run retail counters in any city, Bengaluru included, so the bottle arrives by courier to whatever address you give. Order a few days before the birthday rather than the night before, and have it sent to you rather than to them if you want to hand it over yourself.
What should I do with the money left over?
Put it into the evening. At this stage the setting does more work than the size does - the same bottle given over dinner on their birthday and given at a doorway with no occasion are two different gifts, and the ₹300 buys you more of the first than it buys millilitres.
