Almost every flagship I am asked about starts this conversation at the fragrance, which is the last decision, and reaches airflow months later when the ceiling is closed. The sequence below is the whole of what I know, and the sequence is the point.
Quick answers — read this first
What comes first when planning a flagship? The air handling, and it is not close. Where your supply and return grilles sit, and whether the fragrance hardware can be mounted into the system, decides more than every other choice combined - and it is the only decision that becomes permanent once the ceiling closes. Fragrance is step five of six. If you are reading this while the services drawings are still live, you are early enough to get the whole thing right; if the joinery is fixed, you are choosing from what is left.
How many machines does a flagship need? One per genuinely separate volume of air, and no more. A second machine belongs to a second volume - a separate floor, its own AC zone, a closed lounge with a door - never to a second corner of the same showroom. A 4,000 sq ft flagship on one floor with an enclosed private lounge is usually two: two SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 each. If the building has proper central air handling, one SOSA Aangan at ₹25,999 into the AHU is the cleaner answer.
What does a flagship scenting scheme cost?Either ₹23,998 for two Vaayu, or ₹25,999 for one Aangan into the air handling. That is the whole hardware line for a 4,000 sq ft flagship, and it is a rounding error against the fit-out - which is the honest reason to get the sequence right rather than the budget. Installation, AMC, warranty, corporate or GST invoicing and delivery timing are not published terms and must be confirmed with us before they go into a programme schedule. It is also the one line in the scheme where the building, rather than the budget, chooses for you.
The short answer
Short answer: in this order - airflow and HVAC, the door and threshold reality, machine placement on the services drawing, the zone map, the signature, and intensity last. Fragrance is step five of six, and the only irreversible decision is the first one. Two Vaayu at ₹11,999 each, or one Aangan at ₹25,999 into the air handling.
The pick: one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) per genuinely separate volume of air - typically two in a 4,000 sq ft flagship - or one SOSA Aangan (₹25,999) mounted into the air handling where the building has a proper AHU.
Next step: send the services drawings and the fit-out plan at whatever stage they are at, and we will mark the machine positions and tell you which of the six steps you are actually on - Ask for a retail scenting plan.
Five of the six steps are free. The one that costs money is step five, and it is the one everybody starts with. Doing them out of order is how a flagship ends up with a machine beside a return grille.
The flagship hardware - tap to see the specification
How should a flagship luxury watch boutique plan airflow, entrance, showroom, private areas, signature and machine placement together?
In that order, more or less exactly, and the order is the entire method. Step one is airflow and HVAC. Ask your services engineer for the supply and return grille positions, the zone boundaries, the number of air changes and whether the system will accept a mounted nebulising unit. Everything downstream depends on this, and it is the only part of the scheme that becomes permanent when the ceiling closes. Step two is the door, and it is a step about accepting a limit rather than solving a problem. A flagship entrance on a street or a mall corridor exchanges the air near it many times an hour. No machine holds a fragrance there, and every attempt to fix it by raising the setting produces an overpowering showroom and an unchanged doorway. What you can do is architectural: a lobby, an air curtain, a vestibule with two sets of doors, decided now while it is a drawing rather than later when it is a wall. Step three is placement, marked on the same drawing sheet as the grilles so a revision cannot lose it: well inside the trading floor, on the supply path, away from the return, never at the threshold, wall or HVAC mounted where the design allows. Step four is the zone map, and this is where flagships waste money. A zone is a volume of air with a boundary - a wall, a door, ideally its own AC zone - not an area with a name on the plan. Walk the plan asking where air actually stops. Usually the answer is that the entrance, the main floor and the brand sections are one volume, and only a closed private lounge or a separate floor is a second. One machine per volume, and a second machine never belongs to a second corner of the same showroom. A double-height entrance void counts against you here, because you scent volume rather than floor area and a void eats capacity fast. Step five is the signature, and only now. For this category it is dry: dry woods, cedar and vetiver, often a leather facet, sometimes a soft dry amber, dry tea or citrus at the brighter end - never sweet, edible, powdery or floral, because a room full of watch cases should not read as a fragrance counter. If the interior is warm walnut, brass and leather, resist matching warmth with warmth; the palette needs cutting, not doubling. Step six is intensity, and it is genuinely last, because it can only be set in the finished room with the air handling running. Quieter than you expect. Set for the advisor who breathes it nine hours a day rather than the client who is in it for forty minutes; if the team says it is too much, it is too much; confirm by walking in from outside and aiming to notice a room somebody looks after rather than a fragrance. Key-lock on, timers to trading hours, and anyone able to switch it off in seconds. Hardware, at last: two SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 each - ₹23,998 - for a 4,000 sq ft flagship with an enclosed lounge, or one SOSA Aangan at ₹25,999 into the air handling where the building has a proper AHU. Both are waterless, adding no moisture to the room and leaving no residue on surfaces - a fact about the machine, not a claim about your stock, which is a matter for the brands you carry and their watchmakers. And a new flagship should run unscented for its first weeks, because adhesive, paint, carpet and new joinery must be ventilated out rather than scented over. Two disclosures: installation, AMC, warranty, bulk pricing, corporate or GST invoicing, minimum order, spare parts and rollout support are not published and must be confirmed with us, and cold-air refill oil is not currently sold separately - the 400ml supplied runs 90+ days a fill, and continuity should be confirmed before a programme. Finally, plainly: no one can promise you that ambient scent moves footfall, dwell, conversion or spend, and a flagship business case should not carry that line. Ask for a retail scenting plan and send the services drawings.
Airflow, door, placement, zone map, signature, intensity - in that order. Five of the six steps are free. Two Vaayu at ₹23,998, or one Aangan at ₹25,999 into the AHU.
At step five, either two SOSA Vaayu - waterless, 1000m³ each, wall and HVAC mountable, key-locked - at ₹11,999 apiece for two genuinely separate volumes, or one SOSA Aangan at ₹25,999 into the air handling for a building with a proper AHU. ₹23,998 or ₹25,999, and that is the whole hardware line.
Two honest routes for a flagship, and which one you take is decided by whether the building has air handling worth mounting into rather than by the size of the budget.
Waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft. 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill, Bluetooth app with 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, under 38dB, auto-stop and key-lock, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted. Two of these cover a 4,000 sq ft flagship with an enclosed lounge - ₹23,998 in total.
HVAC nebulising diffuser rated to approximately 8,000-10,000 sq ft, mounted into the air handling so the profile arrives wherever conditioned air arrives. For a full-floor flagship this is the cleaner scheme, and it removes the question of where a machine stands in a room you have just spent a fortune finishing. ₹25,999.
1000m³ coverage (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft), 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill, Bluetooth app and 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, under 38dB, 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mount, auto-stop and key-lock. CE, RoHS and SGS certified. Made in India. Cold-air refill oil is not currently sold separately - the machine ships with 400ml and continuity of supply should be confirmed with SOSA before a programme.
Three cards for six steps, grouped as they actually get done: the building, the map, and the fragrance decisions that come last.
1
Steps one and two: the building
Airflow is the only irreversible decision, and the threshold is the only unwinnable one
Get the supply and return grille positions, the zone boundaries and the air-change rate from your services engineer, and ask whether the system will accept a mounted nebulising unit. That single answer decides whether your flagship runs two free-standing machines or one into the AHU. Then look honestly at the entrance: a door onto a street or a mall corridor exchanges that air many times an hour, and no machine, oil or setting holds a fragrance at a threshold. Decide now whether a lobby, vestibule or air curtain is possible, because it is a drawing today and a wall next year. How central AC changes distribution is worked through in how central AC affects fragrance distribution. Ask the same engineer what happens to the pressure relationship when the doors are propped open for an event, because a flagship does that far more often than an ordinary store.
Tip: Put the machine position on the same drawing sheet as the AC grilles so a revision cannot separate them.
One Vaayu ₹11,999, set once and left alone, is the whole hardware side of this.
A zone is a volume with a boundary, not an area with a label
Walk the plan asking one question at every threshold: does air stop here. A brand section that opens onto the main floor does not stop air, so it is not a zone, and giving it a machine of its own would only put two profiles in one body of air to meet in the aisle. A closed private lounge with its own AC zone does stop air, and so does a separate floor. One machine per volume, placed well inside on the supply path and away from the return. A double-height entrance void counts against your capacity, because you are scenting cubic metres rather than square feet. The full test for when a second machine is genuinely earned is in when a large boutique needs multiple zones. Write the volume count on the drawing itself, so that the number of machines is a consequence of your plan rather than something a supplier proposes to you.
Tip: Count volumes with a pencil on the plan before anyone quotes you for hardware.
One Vaayu ₹11,999, set once and left alone, is the whole hardware side of this.
The fragrance is chosen fifth and the level is set last, in the finished room
The register for this category is dry - dry woods, cedar and vetiver, a leather facet, sometimes a soft dry amber, dry tea or citrus at the brighter end - and never sweet, edible, powdery or floral. Against warm walnut, brass and leather, resist doubling the warmth; the palette wants cutting. Then intensity, which can only be judged in the completed store with the air handling running, which is why it is last. Set it for the advisor who breathes it nine hours a day, treat the team's verdict as final, and confirm by walking in from outside. A new flagship runs unscented for its first weeks while adhesive, paint and new joinery ventilate out - that is a building process and fragrance plays no part in it. Choosing the signature itself is covered in how to choose a signature fragrance for a watch retail brand. Set it again a month after opening, because the room you calibrated at handover is not the room you have once the stock, the seating and the staff are all in it.
One Vaayu ₹11,999, set once and left alone, is the whole hardware side of this.
A flagship scenting scheme is decided in six steps, and the reason so many end up wrong is that the fragrance - which is step five - is almost always the step people start with, by which time the ceiling has closed on step one.
Five of the six steps cost nothing. The one that costs money is the smallest decision in the whole sequence.
One per volume, not per area: SOSA Vaayu covers up to 1000m³ each, and two of them carry a 4,000 sq ft flagship with an enclosed lounge. ₹23,998 for the pair.
Into the air handling: SOSA Aangan is rated to roughly 8,000-10,000 sq ft and mounts into the AHU, so nothing stands in a room you have just finished. ₹25,999.
If the first question anybody asks you about a flagship is what it should smell like, they have started at step five of six, and step one is already being poured in concrete somewhere.

What a flagship actually buys with this
Coherence and control - never a promised business number
Two routes cover a flagship, and the building decides which. Cold-air refill oil is not currently sold separately, so the 400ml supplied runs 90+ days a fill and continuity of supply should be confirmed with SOSA before a programme is committed, alongside installation, AMC, warranty and invoicing terms that are equally unpublished. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
The SOSA watch-boutique specification
Two routes for a flagship, decided by the building
Do the six steps in order and let the building choose the hardware. Ambient scent here is a presentation decision like lighting, seating or case layout; it is never used to cover or neutralise another smell, and a brand-new flagship runs unscented for its first weeks while adhesive, paint, carpet and new joinery ventilate out. Installation, AMC, warranty, bulk pricing, corporate invoicing, minimum order, spare parts and rollout support are not published terms and must be confirmed with SOSA. Ask for a retail scenting plan before you spend anything.

A note from Sonal
This is the question I most want to be asked and the one that arrives latest. By the time somebody writes to me about a flagship, the drawings are usually frozen, the ceiling is designed, and the only positions left for a machine are the ones nobody wanted. So the single most useful thing in this whole cluster is the order: airflow, then the door, then placement, then the zone map, then the signature, then intensity. Five of those six cost nothing, and the one that costs money is the smallest decision on the list. If your services drawings are still live while you are reading this, you are early enough to get the whole thing right, and that is the only genuinely time-critical sentence in this cluster.
The reframe I would offer a flagship owner is that you are not buying a fragrance, you are deciding one more element of a room you have already decided everything else about. The stone was chosen, the light temperature was chosen, the seating, the music, the greeting. If the air is not chosen it is the loose thread, and people register a loose thread without locating it. Choosing it is worth doing. It is also the last five per cent, it will not make an ordinary store extraordinary, and nobody - me included - can promise you that it moves a business number. A flagship business case that carries a percentage for scent has a made-up line in it. The air is the cheapest of all those decisions and the last one anybody makes, which is exactly why it is so often the one left undecided.
Hardware: two Vaayu at ₹11,999 each for two genuinely separate volumes - ₹23,998 - or one Aangan at ₹25,999 into the air handling. Run the store unscented for its first weeks. Ask us about installation, AMC, warranty, invoicing and refill continuity rather than assuming any of them, because none of it is published. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. And when the store does open, keep the level low enough that nobody names it - a flagship should read as looked after rather than as fragranced.
Frequently asked questions
How should I plan HVAC, entrance, showroom intensity, private areas, signature and machine placement for a flagship?
In that order, and the order is the method. Airflow and HVAC first, because it is the only irreversible decision. Then the door and the threshold reality. Then machine placement marked on the services drawing. Then the zone map, counting real volumes rather than named areas. Then the signature. Then intensity, last, set in the finished room with the air handling running. Five of the six steps cost nothing, and the one that costs money is the smallest decision in the whole sequence.
How many scent machines does a flagship boutique need?
One per genuinely separate volume of air, and no more. A brand section that opens onto the main floor is not a separate volume, so it does not get a machine - two profiles in one body of air simply meet in the aisle. A closed private lounge with its own AC zone is a separate volume, and so is a separate floor. A 4,000 sq ft flagship with an enclosed lounge is usually two machines. Count the volumes with a pencil on the plan before anybody quotes you for hardware, and remember that a double-height entrance void eats capacity fast because you are scenting cubic metres.
Should the entrance of a flagship be scented?
It cannot be, and planning around that is better than fighting it. A door onto a street or a mall corridor exchanges the air near it many times an hour, so no machine or setting holds a fragrance at a threshold. What helps is architectural - a lobby, a vestibule or an air curtain - and that is a decision to make while it is still a drawing. Customers meet the room a few paces in. Let the customer meet the room three or four paces in, and make the impression there rather than at the line where corridor or street air still wins.
What does scenting a flagship cost?
Either Rs 23,998 for two SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 each, covering two genuinely separate volumes, or Rs 25,999 for one SOSA Aangan mounted into the air handling where the building has a proper AHU. That is the whole hardware line. Installation, AMC, warranty, bulk pricing, corporate or GST invoicing, minimum order and rollout support are not published terms and must be confirmed with SOSA. Cold-air refill oil is also not sold separately today, so the 400ml supplied runs 90 or more days a fill and continuity should be confirmed before a programme is committed.
When should a new flagship start running fragrance?
Not at opening. A new fit-out carries adhesive, paint, carpet and new joinery smells, and those have to be ventilated out rather than scented over - a fragrance layered on top gives you two smells instead of one. Run the store unscented for its first weeks, keep the ventilation working hard, and set the level once the building has settled and the air handling is running normally. Keep the ventilation working hard through that period, and set the level once the air handling is running normally rather than during commissioning.
Quiet enough for a flagship floor: Under 38dB and waterless, so it neither intrudes on a quiet sale nor adds moisture to the room. ₹11,999.
The SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) covers up to 1000m³ per volume - two of them, ₹23,998, carry a 4,000 sq ft flagship with an enclosed lounge - or one SOSA Aangan at ₹25,999 mounts into the air handling. Waterless, under 38dB, key-locked, made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Send the services drawings at whatever stage they are at.
About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the planning advice applies to any brand.
Facts verified 5 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with adjustable intensity, a 400ml refillable tank lasting 90+ days a fill depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, operation under 38dB at 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification, which are electrical and compliance marks and not medical approvals. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or equipment. The SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is an ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering roughly 270-320 sq ft and is supplied with three 15ml fragrances; the water-based Hotel Collection (₹299 / ₹999 / ₹1,799) is an ultrasonic fragrance and is not a refill for a waterless cold-air machine. SOSA reed diffusers are alcohol-free and phthalate-free, with 50ml lasting about 6-8 weeks and 130ml about 14-18 weeks. Cold-air refill oil for the Vaayu is not currently sold separately - the machine ships with 400ml included and further refills should be confirmed with SOSA. Warranty, annual maintenance, installation and bulk terms are not published and should be confirmed before ordering. Ambient scent is an interior and hospitality decision: it makes no clinical, therapeutic or wellbeing claim, it works alongside proper ventilation, cleaning and infection control and is never a substitute for any of them, it is never used to mask another smell, and no claim is made that fragrance influences a patient's decision or any commercial outcome. Clinical areas including procedure, post-procedure and photography rooms are left unscented, and the treating clinician's judgement overrides any scenting plan in their own room. The hotel-inspired scents are SOSA's own original interpretations; SOSA is an independent brand and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any hotel named for reference. Coverage, fragrance usage and running cost depend on the space, settings and hours of use, and are confirmed on a consultation. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live product pages.
