An ultrasonic diffuser is a simple, durable device with one vulnerable part: the misting plate. Keep that clean and unclogged and the machine will run for years. Almost every early death comes from the wrong fragrance or hard-water scale, both of which film the plate.
So the care is really about protecting that one component.
