Put it on moving air, at chest height, out of the corners
Scent does not radiate outward from a machine like light from a lamp; it goes wherever the air in your home is already going. So the first job is to work out where that is. Stand in the entrance with the air conditioning on and follow the draught. In most Indian flats the answer is the passage that links the entrance, living room and bedrooms, or the wall near the return-air grille. Mount or stand the unit at roughly chest height, because heavier output released near the floor tends to stay near the floor. Avoid three positions specifically: a corner, behind or under furniture, and the middle of a seating group, where the nearest two people get all of it and everyone else gets none.
Tip: follow the draught from the entrance with the AC on, and put the machine on that line.

That second window is the entire hotel effect: the door opens onto a smell that was already there. Avoid two patterns. Permanent full output wastes oil, and the people living there stop registering it within days, which usually leads to turning it up when it should be turned down. And a short strong burst before guests arrive is obvious - it reads as preparation rather than as the smell of a home.

Intensity and coverage
Lowest setting, and volume maths rather than guesswork
Start at the lowest intensity and leave it alone for two weeks. You are the least qualified person to judge the smell of your own home, because you adapt to it within minutes of walking in, so calibrate on entry from outside or ask a visitor. If the fragrance is genuinely absent on entry, go up one step, and no more. The single most common thing I fix on a home consultation is not the fragrance and not the machine. It is where the machine is standing. People put it where it looks good, which is usually a corner of the living room on a low table, and then conclude that it is underpowered. Move the same unit into the passage where the air is actually moving and the whole floor changes on the same setting.
The second most common thing is intensity, and it is a trap that catches almost everyone. You cannot smell your own home. Within two minutes of walking in you have adapted, so you turn it up, and then a guest walks in and it hits them. Set the Vaayu to its lowest setting, leave it for two weeks, and judge it by walking in from outside or by asking someone who does not live with you.
