Before anybody spends ₹11,999 on this problem, there is a free move that fixes it about half the time. It involves an extension lead and three metres of floor.
Quick answers — read this first
How do I scent a reception with people constantly coming and going? Put the source deep in the room and let the room hold it. A reception is not one body of air; it has a zone near the entrance that is emptied and refilled every time the door cycles, and a quieter zone further in that the door barely touches. Output released into the first zone leaves with the next arrival. The same output released three or four metres in, out of the walking line and away from the draught, stays long enough to build a level. That is a repositioning job, and it costs nothing.

Will moving the diffuser really make that much difference? In a through-traffic reception, more than changing the product usually does. The gradient between the doorway zone and the still zone of the same room is often larger than the gradient between two different machines, because one of those zones is being flushed several times an hour and the other is not. It is also the only intervention here you can try this afternoon, reverse in a minute, and evaluate honestly before spending anything.

What if my reception is a shallow strip along the frontage? Then there is nowhere deep to go, and I would rather tell you that than sell you something. A room three metres deep and twelve wide behind a glass frontage is all doorway zone; every part of it is within a cycle's reach. In that layout you can run a low level as a threshold moment and accept it will not persist, or you can change the building with a vestibule or a screen. What you should not do is buy a larger machine and aim it at the street.
The short answer
Short answer: Put the source deep and let the room hold it. Every reception has a zone the entrance flushes and a quieter zone it barely reaches; output released into the first leaves with the next arrival. Move the source three or four metres in, out of the walking line and away from the draught, before you consider replacing anything. If the reception is a shallow strip along the frontage there is no deep zone, and no placement will save it.
The pick: nothing, on the first attempt - move what you already own. If the room still cannot hold a level, the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, wall-mounted deep in the room.
Next step: send a plan with the entrance, the desk and the seating marked and we will tell you where the still zone is - ask for a clinic scenting plan.

Straight answer
How do I scent a diagnostic reception with people constantly entering and leaving?
By putting the source deep and letting the room hold it, and by doing that before you consider buying anything. A busy reception is not one uniform body of air. It has a zone in front of the entrance that is exchanged with the street every time the door cycles, and a quieter zone further in - typically behind the seating line, in the lee of a partition or a column, away from both the doorway and the supply grille - which those cycles barely touch. Anything released into the first zone is, in effect, being released outdoors on a delay. The same output released into the second zone stays long enough to accumulate to a level, and then feeds the doorway zone continuously from behind rather than being swept out of it. Reposition before you re-specify. Three or four metres in from the threshold is the usual target; out of the direct walking line, because moving bodies drag air with them; roughly a metre or so above the floor rather than at head height; and never aimed across a seated patient. If your only socket is by the door, an extension lead for a fortnight is a perfectly respectable experiment, and a proper wall mount afterwards. This matters in a diagnostic centre more than in most businesses because the entrance behaviour here is extreme - a fasting-sample peak means a concentrated, crowded arrival period with a door that hardly closes, and everybody's instinct is to meet that by putting the source where the people are, which is precisely the worst spot available. There is a second benefit that is worth naming. A source set deep gives arrivals a fragrance that appears a beat after they enter rather than at the threshold, which is the correct sequence anyway: the air should read as different once you are inside the room, not while you are still in the doorway. Now the honest limit. If your reception is a shallow strip along the frontage - three metres deep, glass at the front, the desk against the back wall - there is no deep zone, and no placement rescues it. Every part of that room is within a door cycle's reach. Your options there are to run a low level and treat it as a threshold moment that does not persist, to change the building with a vestibule or a screen wall, or to do nothing. Buying a bigger machine to fill that room is buying output for the pavement. Fragrance here is an ambience decision like lighting, seating or signage; it works alongside your ventilation and cleaning rather than instead of them, SOSA products are not medical devices, we make no claim that scenting affects how a centre performs commercially, and the clinician's judgement overrides any scenting plan.
Put the source three or four metres in, out of the walking line and off the draught, and let the room hold it. Reposition before you re-specify. A shallow frontage strip has no deep spot at all.
Try the free move first. If the room still cannot hold a level, the purchase is the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, wall-mounted deep in the room rather than stood on the counter nearest the entrance.

For when the room cannot hold it

Read this section only after the repositioning experiment. If moving the source three metres has already improved things, the machines below are an upgrade rather than a fix, and you can take your time about them.

SOSA Vaayu
For a deep reception that still loses its level
SOSA Vaayu
Waterless cold-air nebuliser at ₹11,999, rated to 1000m³, roughly 2,000-3,000 sq ft. Freestanding or wall and HVAC mountable, which is the relevant part here: the still zone rarely has a console table in it. Adjustable intensity, run windows, key-lock, under 38dB.
From ₹11,999
SOSA Angaan
For a large concourse with more than one entrance
SOSA Angaan
HVAC nebulising diffuser at ₹25,999, rated to 3,000m³, roughly 8,000-10,000 sq ft, 800ml reservoir, programmable schedules. Where a concourse has two or three doorway zones, distribution through the duct work is a better answer than choosing which door to lose.

SOSA Vaayu Waterless Diffuser
₹11,999, 165×80.5×215mm and 0.9kg, freestanding or wall and HVAC mountable, black or white. 1000m³ (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft), 400ml tank lasting 90+ days, adjustable intensity, timers, key-lock, under 38dB. Three things about depth

How to find the still zone, what depth means in centimetres rather than adjectives, and the layout where none of it applies.

1
One
Finding the part of the room the door does not reach
You can map this in twenty minutes with a strip of tissue paper. Hold it at knee height at a series of points across the reception during your busy hour and watch what happens when the entrance opens. Near the door it will move visibly on almost every cycle. Further in it will twitch. Somewhere - usually behind the seating line, in the lee of a partition, in a corner away from both the entrance and the air-conditioning supply grille - it will barely register at all. That is your still zone, and it is where the source belongs. Two cautions. Do not confuse still with stagnant: a corner with no air movement at all, behind a cupboard, will hold output and never share it. And check the supply grille separately, because a diffuser sitting directly under a supply blast is being scattered rather than distributed.
Tip: Do the tissue test at your peak hour, not at lunchtime. A room that is still at two o'clock tells you nothing about the same room at half past eight.
SOSA Vaayu
A wall-mounted Vaayu can go where the still zone actually is, which is usually a stretch of blank wall rather than a piece of furniture.

Two
What deep means in practice
Three to four metres in from the threshold as a starting point, and further if the room allows it. Out of the direct walking line between the door and the counter, because a stream of people moving through a space drags air along with them and will strip a source that sits in the middle of it. Around a metre to a metre and a half above the floor - low enough not to fall on seated heads, high enough not to be kicked, blocked by a bin or knocked by a trolley. Not facing a seated patient at close range, and not tucked behind a curtain. And not directly beneath or in front of an air-conditioning supply outlet. If the ideal spot has no socket, that is an electrician's afternoon rather than a reason to accept the wrong position, and in the meantime an extension lead run tidily along a skirting will tell you whether the move works at all.
Tip: Mark the proposed spot with tape and leave the source there for a week before drilling anything. Reception layouts have habits nobody documents.
SOSA Vaayu
Where the still zone has no wall, the Vaayu can be mounted to the HVAC instead - which puts it in the distribution path rather than in the furniture.

Three
The shallow strip, where depth does not exist
A common Indian high-street layout is a reception three metres deep and ten or twelve metres wide, with glass across the front and the counter against the back wall. There is no deep zone in that room. Every point in it is within reach of a door cycle, the whole space acts as one doorway zone, and repositioning simply moves the source from one flushed spot to another. I would rather write that down than let you spend on a machine that cannot win. In that layout the realistic choices are: run a low level and treat it as a threshold impression that does not persist through the day; add a screen, a planter wall or a shallow vestibule so that a sheltered pocket exists; or accept a clean, unscented, well-kept room, which in this vertical is a perfectly respectable outcome and costs nothing at all.
Tip: Measure the depth from the door to the back wall. Under about four metres, treat every recommendation on this page as provisional.
SOSA Angaan
Depth cannot be bought. An Angaan distributes through duct work rather than from a point, which is the only way around a shallow plan, and it needs the ducting to exist.
See SOSA Angaan →
The SOSA principle
Every reception has a part the entrance empties and a part it does not, and the difference between those two is bigger than the difference between any two machines.
Which is why the first thing to change is where the source stands, and why so many centres change the product instead.
SOSA Vaayu
Mounting is the useful specification here: freestanding, wall or HVAC, 0.9kg, so the position can be chosen from the air rather than from the furniture.

Four positions, and what each one keeps

The same source, the same setting, four places to stand it. The difference between the first row and the third is not subtle.

The SOSA plan
Four positions in a through-traffic reception
Where you were going to put it How much of its output the room keeps
On the console table beside the entrance
The least of any position in the building. It sits in the zone that is exchanged with the street on every cycle, so most of the output is spent outdoors.
On the reception counter, facing the queue
Better, and still in the walking line, where moving people drag air with them. It also puts the source at the nose height of whoever is standing at the desk.
SOSA VaayuThree to four metres in, off the walking line, on a wall
The target. The room holds it, the level builds, and the doorway zone is fed from behind instead of being flushed. View →
In a dead corner behind a cupboard
Too far the other way. Still is what you want; sealed is not, because output that never joins the room's circulation might as well not have been produced.

Count the entrance before you move anything, in do constantly opening doors reduce fragrance performance; the wider placement rules for a large reception are in where a scent machine should be placed in a large reception; and what the air handling does to all of it is in how HVAC airflow should affect placement. SOSA makes no health or therapeutic claim of any kind, and no claim that scenting affects how a centre performs commercially.

SOSA Vaayu
Depth and schedule together: a source placed where the room keeps it, running harder only through the crowded hours, is the whole of this vertical's hardware argument.
Mark the door, the desk and the seats
Send that sketch and we will tell you where the still zone is - and whether your room has one at all.

Moving a diffuser three metres costs nothing and is the most effective thing most busy receptions could do this week. Replacing it costs ₹11,999 and often changes less.

A reed at ₹749-₹849 placed properly beats a machine placed badly, and in a shallow frontage reception it is the only sensible spend. Fragrance is an ambience decision like lighting or signage, with no health, therapeutic or clinical claim of any kind, and no claim that it affects how a business performs. It works alongside your ventilation, cleaning and laboratory protocol, never instead of them, and SOSA products are not medical devices. Collection, processing and scan rooms stay unscented, staff must be able to switch the source off in seconds, and the clinician's judgement overrides any plan. A note from Sonal

The tissue-paper test is not something I learned in Versailles. It came from a fit-out contractor in Pune who watched me theorising about air movement in a client's reception, went and tore a strip off a tissue box, and had the answer in four minutes. I have used it on every site visit since, and it has never once agreed with the position the furniture suggested.

What I like about it is that the client can do it themselves and disagree with me on the evidence. A supplier who tells you where the air goes is asking to be believed. A supplier who hands you a strip of tissue and asks you to walk the room is telling you something you can check, and if the check contradicts me then I am wrong and we both know it in twenty minutes rather than in three months.

So: move it, test it, and buy only if the room still cannot hold a level. We make no health, therapeutic or clinical claim of any kind, and no claim that scenting affects how a centre performs commercially. Fragrance is an ambience decision, like lighting or seating. Clinical rooms stay unscented, and the clinician's judgement overrides any plan. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

How far inside the room should the source actually be?
Three to four metres from the threshold as a starting point, and further if the plan allows it, out of the direct walking line and roughly a metre to a metre and a half above the floor. The exact figure matters less than which side of the doorway zone it falls on, which the tissue test will show you in twenty minutes.
How do I find the still part of my reception?
Hold a strip of tissue paper at knee height at several points during your busy hour and watch it when the entrance opens. Where it moves on every cycle is the flushed zone; where it barely twitches is the still zone. Avoid corners where it does not move at all, because output there stays put instead of joining the room.
What if the only power socket is beside the entrance?
Run a tidy extension lead to the better position for a fortnight and judge the result, then have a socket put in if it works. It is a small electrician's job against an ₹11,999 alternative, and choosing a machine's position by where the wiring happens to be is how most bad placements start.
Should the source face towards the door or away from it?
Neither, really - point it into the body of the room rather than at anything in particular. Aimed at the entrance it feeds the zone that is being flushed; aimed at seating it puts output at the nose height of somebody who has to sit there for forty minutes. Into the open volume, from a wall, is the reliable choice.
Does repositioning mean I can run a lower setting?
Very often, yes, and that is a real saving in tank life as well as in how the room reads. A source in the still zone builds a level with less output because less of what it produces is being carried outside, so the same result arrives at a lower intensity. Try dropping a step after you move it.
SOSA Meenar
The rule scales unchanged: the SOSA Meenar at ₹38,500 serves roughly 12,000-18,000 sq ft of HVAC-connected space, and a flagship entrance zone is just a larger flushed zone.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the planning advice applies to any brand.

Facts verified 5 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with a 400ml refillable tank lasting 90+ days depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and onboard button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, operation under 38dB, DC 12V/1A at 5W (roughly 1.5 units of electricity a month on a ten-hour daily schedule), freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or equipment. The SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) is an HVAC nebulising diffuser rated to 3,000m³, roughly 8,000-10,000 sq ft, with an 800ml reservoir, metal body, programmable schedules and operation under 42dB, and also runs standalone wall-mounted or lay-flat. The SOSA Meenar (₹38,500) is the largest machine in the range, quoted for roughly 12,000-18,000 sq ft of HVAC-connected space. Ambient scent is an interior and hospitality decision: it works alongside proper ventilation, cleaning and clinical protocol and is not a substitute for any of them, it is not a medical device, and SOSA makes no health, therapeutic or treatment claim of any kind and no claim that fragrance affects bookings, retention or spend.
