Nobody asks me this question about an empty room. They ask it about a showroom that has just cost a great deal of money and does not yet feel like it, and the instinct is to add something. Nine times out of ten the honest answer is the opposite instruction.
Quick answers — read this first
How do I make my kitchen showroom smell more premium? Start by finding out what it smells of now, because it already smells of something. Adhesive, laminate, MDF, floor cleaner, the staff tea point, a bin behind reception, damp matting at the door. Removing those is what makes a room read as expensive; adding a fragrance on top of them just gives you both. Premium in this category is coherence rather than addition - the air agreeing with the displays, the lighting and the price of the kitchens - and coherence is mostly a subtraction exercise.

So fragrance does not make a showroom feel premium? Not on its own, and not early. Scent is the last five per cent, which means it is worth doing and worth doing properly, but only once the other ninety-five is right. A showroom with an adhesive smell, tired matting and a fluorescent tint in the lighting does not become premium when a diffuser is switched on - it becomes a showroom with an adhesive smell and a fragrance. The order of operations here matters more than the choice of fragrance does.

What do I add at the end, and what does it cost? Something dry and material-led - dry woods, green or herbal, tea, clean mineral - and nothing edible. Run low. Under about 750 sq ft, one SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899, and a Vaayu would be the wrong buy at that size. From roughly 1,500 sq ft, one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 on the display floor's air path.
The short answer
Short answer: by removing smells before adding one. Audit what the showroom smells of today - adhesive and laminate, floor cleaner, the staff tea point, the bin, the door matting - and fix those, because premium here is coherence rather than addition. Fragrance is the last five per cent, run low, dry and never edible.
The pick: once the subtraction is done, one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) at a low setting from about 1,500 sq ft, or one SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) where the showroom is a single room.
Next step: walk your showroom first thing on a Monday before anyone else arrives, write down every smell you can find, and send us that list with the floor plan - Ask for a retail scenting plan.

The rooms that read as expensive are rarely the ones with the most interesting fragrance. They are the ones with nothing wrong in the air, and a small amount of something dry sitting quietly on top of that.

Straight answer
How does a modular kitchen showroom actually end up smelling more premium?
By smelling of less. That is the whole answer, and everything else is detail. Your showroom already smells of something - no room is neutral - and the reason it does not read as premium is almost never that a fragrance is missing. It is that two or three ordinary smells are present. Walk in on a Monday morning before anyone else arrives, when the building has been shut for a day and a half and your nose has not yet adapted, and write down everything you can find. The list is usually the same: adhesive and laminate from the fit-out or from the last display installed; the floor cleaner used at closing; the staff tea point; a bin behind reception; damp matting at the entrance; and a stale, unmoved quality in the corners furthest from the air conditioning. Every one of those is fixable and none of them is fixable with fragrance. Change the cleaning product to something with less perfume in it rather than more. Move the bin. Give the tea point a door or an extract, and make tea somewhere the customers do not walk. Replace the matting and clean it on a schedule. Ventilate hard, run the air handling on fresh air rather than recirculation where the system allows it, and if the room is new, give the fit-out the weeks it needs to cure - a new showroom should trade unscented until that has gone, because fragrance never covers off-gassing; two smells in one airspace combine rather than cancel, and you end up with adhesive and cedar instead of just adhesive. Then look at everything that is not smell, because premium is coherence and the air is only one channel of it. Light temperature. Whether the glass is actually clean at eye level. Whether the worktops have fingerprints on them at four in the afternoon. Whether the music, if there is any, belongs to the same brand as the kitchens. Scent is the last five per cent - genuinely worth doing, and worth nothing at all if it arrives before the other ninety-five. When you do add it, add little. The register is dry and material-led: dry woods such as cedar, pine and sage, something green or herbal, a dry tea, clean mineral - and never anything edible, because a brand selling ₹5-10 lakh cabinetry that smells of baking reads as a bakery rather than as an interiors showroom, and it competes with any live cooking you stage on purpose. Set the level from the consultation seat at the ninetieth minute rather than from the door, since your customers sit for sixty to ninety minutes and exposure compounds. On hardware, under about 750 sq ft, one SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899 and a Vaayu would be the wrong buy at that size; from roughly 1,500 sq ft, one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, waterless, so it adds no moisture to the room and leaves no residue on surfaces - a fact about the machine, not a claim about your finishes, which is a question for their manufacturers. And to be plain: no one can promise you that any of this moves footfall, enquiries or order value, and a supplier offering you a figure is selling. Ask for a retail scenting plan and send the Monday-morning list with it.
Premium is coherence rather than addition. Find what the showroom smells of now and remove it - adhesive, cleaner, bins, the tea point, the matting. Fragrance is the last five per cent, dry, low, never edible. ₹1,899 under 750 sq ft, ₹11,999 from about 1,500.
Once the subtraction is done, the machine for a showroom past about 1,500 sq ft is one SOSA Vaayu - waterless, adjustable intensity, under 38dB, rated to 1000m³. ₹11,999, run low. Under 750 sq ft the honest buy is a Sukoon at ₹1,899, and the subtraction list is identical.

The machine for the last five per cent

This is the final step rather than the first, and it is sized by the cubic volume of the display floor. The images link to the product pages so you can check the specifications before ordering.

SOSA Vaayu
Showrooms past about 1,500 sq ft
SOSA Vaayu
Waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft. 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill, Bluetooth app with 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, under 38dB, 5W, auto-stop and key-lock. Wall or HVAC mountable, so the entrance and the consultation area sit on the same air as the floor.

SOSA Sukoon
Under about 750 sq ft - buy this instead
SOSA Sukoon
Ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering roughly 270-320 sq ft, with three 15ml fragrances included. For a single-room studio this is the honest buy, and at that size a Vaayu is rated for several times the volume you have, which is money spent on capacity you cannot use.
From ₹1,899
SOSA Vaayu
The last five per cent, once the ninety-five is right
SOSA Vaayu
1000m³ coverage (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft), 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill, Bluetooth app and 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, under 38dB, 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mount, auto-stop and key-lock. CE, RoHS and SGS certified. Made in India. Cold-air refill oil is not currently sold separately - the machine ships with 400ml and further supply should be confirmed with SOSA.

The subtraction list, in order

Three passes, and you do them before you spend anything on fragrance. The first pass is free, the second costs less than a diffuser, and the third is the one everybody wants to start with.

1
Audit before you adapt
You have twenty minutes of usable nose, and only on the way in
Your sense of smell adjusts to a room within about twenty minutes, which means the person least able to judge your showroom is you, and the worst time to try is halfway through a working day. Do it on a Monday morning before the doors open, from the pavement inward, and write things down as you find them rather than afterwards. Walk the same route a customer walks: threshold, reception, the first display, the aisle, the consultation table, the washroom corridor. Note every smell, including the ones you like, because a cleaning product you find pleasant is still a cleaning product in a room selling cabinetry. Ask two people who never come to the showroom to do the same walk and compare lists.
Tip: Anything you can only smell from the doorway is real; anything you can only smell after an hour is probably not.

2
Remove before you add
Most of what stops a showroom reading as premium is ordinary and cheap to fix
Work down the list in the order of how strongly a customer meets it. Entrance matting is first and is almost always overlooked - it holds street and rain and gets cleaned last. Then the staff tea point, which wants a door or an extract and should not be on the customer route at all. Then bins, which belong nowhere near reception. Then the cleaning routine: switch to a low-perfume product and clean earlier in the evening so the room has hours to air. And if the building is new, the fit-out smell is a curing calendar - ventilate hard, wait weeks, and trade unscented until it has gone, because fragrance is not a cover for off-gassing and never becomes one.
Tip: If a fix costs less than a diffuser, do it before you buy the diffuser.

Then add the last five per cent
The fragrance's job is to be the clean air of a well-kept house
Only now, and only a little. The target is a room that reads as looked-after rather than as fragranced, which means dry and material-led: cedar, pine and sage under a timber floor; the brightest dry end, run low, in a white and grey room; mineral and cool around stone. Nothing edible, ever - no vanilla, bakery, caramel, coffee, chocolate, honey, cinnamon or warm spice, however warm the brief in your head sounds. Then set the level from the seat where a customer spends ninety minutes, not from the door where you spend thirty seconds, and ask the designers who breathe it all week. If your team says it is too much, it is too much, and that is the only measurement in the building worth having.

The SOSA principle
Premium is not a smell you add, it is a set of smells you remove - almost every showroom asking how to smell more expensive is really asking how to smell of less.
Which is fortunate, because subtraction is cheaper than anything on my price list.
SOSA Vaayu
Nothing added to the air: The Vaayu is waterless, nebulising undiluted oil in cold air, so it puts no moisture into a room full of finishes and leaves no residue on surfaces. ₹11,999.

The premium audit, area by area

Take this round the showroom on a Monday morning with a pen. Most of it costs nothing to fix.

The SOSA plan
What to remove, area by area, before anything is added
The area What to do
Threshold and matting
The first thing a customer meets and usually the last thing anyone cleans. Replace tired matting and put it on a schedule; a wet mat at the door undoes a great deal of expensive interior.
SOSA VaayuReception and the front desk
Bins away from here, no personal fragrance sprayed at the desk, and no plug-in air freshener anywhere in the building. Reception is where a single source belongs, at a low setting.
Display floor
Fit-out and new-cabinet smells are a curing problem: ventilate, sequence installations, and wait. Fingerprints and dust on worktops read as strongly as any smell does.
Staff tea point
A door, an extract, and ideally a position off the customer route. Not a fragrance problem and not solvable as one.
Consultation table
Where the level is judged, at minute ninety. If it is comfortable here it is right everywhere; if it is right at the door it is usually wrong here.
Cleaning routine
Low-perfume products, cleaned early enough that the room airs before opening. A showroom that smells freshly mopped does not read as premium at any price.

If your showroom is new and the smell you are fighting is its own fit-out, the sequence is set out in fragrance vs ventilation and what to fix first. And if the plan in your head is a different fragrance for each display, read whether display kitchens can have different fragrance personalities before you buy anything. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel.

SOSA Vaayu
Low is the point: Adjustable intensity with a key-lock means the level you chose for the ninetieth minute stays there rather than creeping up over a season. ₹11,999.
The last five per cent, done properly
SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 covers up to 1000m³ - so on a display floor it runs low rather than working hard.
See the SOSA Vaayu Book a scenting plan
The most expensive-smelling rooms I have ever walked into had almost nothing in the air at all. They simply had nothing wrong in it, which is a much harder thing to buy and a much cheaper thing to do.

The SOSA kitchen-showroom specification

Two machines cover most modular kitchen showrooms, with the Aangan taking over at experience-centre scale, and none of them should be bought before the subtraction is done. Cold-air refill oil is not currently sold separately, so the 400ml supplied runs 90+ days a fill and continuity of supply should be confirmed with SOSA. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Subtract first, add last, and add less than you think. Ambient scent here is a presentation decision like lighting or display styling; it is never used to cover another smell - not laminate, not adhesive, not cooking - and where a showroom has an off-gassing, extraction or cleaning problem the money goes to the building before it goes to a machine. And plainly: no one can promise you that ambient scent moves footfall, enquiries or order value, and a supplier quoting you a figure is selling. A note from Sonal

This question always arrives with a photograph attached. Someone has finished a showroom they are proud of, the displays are beautiful, the lighting has been thought about, and something about the room still reads a little ordinary - so they write to ask which fragrance will fix it. It is a fair question and it has an unfair answer, which is that fragrance is not what is wrong. The room is telling the truth about itself, and usually the truth is a bin, a mat and a bottle of floor cleaner.

I know how deflating that is to hear from someone who sells fragrance. But I would rather you spent a Monday morning with a notebook than eleven thousand rupees with me, because the notebook works and the machine on its own does not. Premium is coherence: the air agreeing with the displays, the light, the service and the price on the ticket. When one channel disagrees, people feel it without being able to say what it was, and adding a second voice to a room that already has three is not coherence, it is noise.

When the subtraction is done, add little. Under 750 sq ft a Sukoon at ₹1,899; from about 1,500 sq ft a Vaayu at ₹11,999 run low; past roughly 5,000 sq ft an Aangan at ₹25,999 into the air handling. And nothing edible, ever. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

How can I make my modular kitchen showroom smell more premium?
Mostly by removing smells rather than adding one. Walk the showroom on a Monday morning before anyone arrives and list what you find: adhesive and laminate from the fit-out, floor cleaner, the staff tea point, bins near reception, damp entrance matting. Fix those first. Premium here is coherence between the air, the displays, the lighting and the price of the kitchens, and coherence is largely a subtraction exercise.
Will a scent machine make my showroom feel more expensive?
Only at the end, and only a little. Scent is the last five per cent of what makes a room read as premium, which means it is worth doing properly once the other ninety-five is right. A showroom with an adhesive smell and tired matting does not become premium when a diffuser is switched on; it becomes a showroom with an adhesive smell and a fragrance in it as well.
My showroom is brand new and smells of the fit-out. What should I do?
Ventilate hard, run the air handling on fresh air rather than recirculation where the system allows it, and give it the weeks it needs. Off-gassing from laminate, adhesive, MDF and new joinery is a curing problem solved by air and time. Fragrance never covers another smell - two smells in one airspace combine rather than cancel - so trade unscented until it has gone.
What register reads as premium in a kitchen showroom?
Dry and material-led: dry woods such as cedar, pine and sage for timber displays, the brightest dry end run low for white and grey rooms, mineral and cool around stone. Never anything edible. A brand selling expensive cabinetry that smells of vanilla or baking reads as a bakery, and the register competes with any live cooking demonstration you stage on purpose.
Does smelling more premium bring in more customers?
No one can promise that and I will not. SOSA has run no research that would support a figure, and there is no honest way to separate ambient scent from the twenty other things a customer meets in a ninety-minute visit. A supplier who offers you a number is selling you the number. The question you can actually answer is whether your showroom's air agrees with everything else in the room.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the planning advice applies to any brand.

Facts verified 5 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with adjustable intensity, a 400ml refillable tank lasting 90+ days a fill depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, operation under 38dB at 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification, which are electrical and compliance marks and not medical approvals. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or equipment. The SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is an ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering roughly 270-320 sq ft and is supplied with three 15ml fragrances; the water-based Hotel Collection (₹299 / ₹999 / ₹1,799) is an ultrasonic fragrance and is not a refill for a waterless cold-air machine. SOSA reed diffusers are alcohol-free and phthalate-free, with 50ml lasting about 6-8 weeks and 130ml about 14-18 weeks. Cold-air refill oil for the Vaayu is not currently sold separately - the machine ships with 400ml included and further refills should be confirmed with SOSA. Warranty, annual maintenance, installation and bulk terms are not published and should be confirmed before ordering. Ambient scent is an interior and hospitality decision: it makes no clinical, therapeutic or wellbeing claim, it works alongside proper ventilation, cleaning and infection control and is never a substitute for any of them, it is never used to mask another smell, and no claim is made that fragrance influences a patient's decision or any commercial outcome. Clinical areas including procedure, post-procedure and photography rooms are left unscented, and the treating clinician's judgement overrides any scenting plan in their own room. The hotel-inspired scents are SOSA's own original interpretations; SOSA is an independent brand and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any hotel named for reference.
