The office is the most constrained fragrance environment most people have and the one they face two hundred and fifty days a year. The best year-round office attar has to solve the same problem in three different climates without ever becoming a colleague's problem.
Quick answers — read this first
What is the office constraint? Shared, recirculated air that nobody can walk away from - plus a room temperature that barely changes while the outdoors swings forty degrees.
Does the dose change? Less than you would think. The office room is roughly constant, so two dabs works most of the year - it is the commute that changes.
Which one?Adaa - written for office hours, and the one I wear on working days.
The short answer
Versatility is scalability. A light composition can be worn heavier in cold; a deep one cannot be worn light enough for May. That asymmetry decides which bottles work year-round.
The non-negotiable. Change the dose, not the bottle. One dab in summer, two in the monsoon, three in winter. Every SOSA attar is alcohol-free and DPG-free.
SOSA in one line. Alcohol-free, DPG-free, IFRA-compliant attars on a jojoba and Mysore sandalwood base, 6-8 hours on skin, 3ml / 6ml / 12ml, ₹379-₹1,199, hand-blended in Pune.
Start here. For year-round wear, Adaa - the most scalable composition in the range. 3ml at ₹379 to test, 12ml at ₹1,149 if it becomes your signature.
Illustrative only. Versatility is mostly a property of dosage, not of the bottle. A light composition covers the widest range of Indian conditions because it can be scaled up; a deep one cannot be scaled down far enough for May.
A light, dry composition at one or two dabs. The office is unusual in that the environment barely changes across the year - an air-conditioned room in May and a heated one in January are both around twenty-three degrees - while the commute either side swings wildly. So the office dose is fairly constant and it is the journey that varies. What stays constant is the constraint: shared recirculated air, and colleagues who did not choose your fragrance. Adaa was written for exactly these hours.
Short version: the office temperature barely changes all year. It is the commute that swings - so dose for the room.
Want the short path?Adaa is the office attar - one dab in summer, two in winter, five days a week.
This is the highest-frequency fragrance decision most people make and the one with the least room for error, since the cost of getting it wrong is borne by other people.
What "year-round" should mean
A year-round attar is one that can be scaled. Light compositions can be worn heavier when it is cold; deep ones cannot be worn light enough for an Indian May. That asymmetry - not some mythical all-weather blend - is what actually makes a fragrance versatile.
1
Criterion one
The office is a constant, the commute is not
An air-conditioned room in May and a heated one in January are both around twenty-three degrees. So your office dose barely needs to change - one or two dabs all year - while the commute either side varies enormously. Dose for the eight hours, not the forty minutes.
2
Criterion two
No sugar in the base is the year-round rule
Sweetness is the first thing Indian heat ruins and the first thing humidity makes cloying. A composition built dry - citrus, green cardamom, neroli, clean musk, dry woods - is the one that survives all twelve months. Sweet bottles are seasonal by nature, and that is fine as long as you buy them knowing it.
Indian skin spends half the year sweating and half of it dry and cracked. Alcohol is unkind to both - it stings on damp or shaved skin and on cold-weather cracks, and it evaporates unevenly on either. An alcohol-free oil on a jojoba and sandalwood carrier is simply the more robust format across a full year.
4
Criterion four
Shared air is the permanent constraint
Whatever you apply at nine is in that room at three, layered with everyone else's. An oil attar is the more considerate format here because it radiates at conversation distance rather than dispersing across a floor. One dab at the base of the throat is the office dose in every season.

Where SOSA sits - and where another attar might suit you better
Adaa's entire brief was a Pune working day. If it does one thing well, it is this - and it is the bottle I have worn to work for years.
The honest position
Office temperature is a constant. Dose for it.
Where I think we earn a place on your shortlist: a composition written for office hours rather than for a counter, alcohol-free so it behaves on a sweating commute and cracked winter skin alike, and a 12ml for a bottle worn two hundred and fifty days a year. Where another house might suit you better: if your workplace is scent-free by policy, wear nothing.
Three things year-round fragrance advice gets wrong
✕
"You need a seasonal wardrobe." You need a seasonal dose. One light composition worn at one dab in May and three in January covers most of an Indian year honestly.
✕
"Versatile means boring." It means scalable. A composition with real material is interesting at any dose - what makes something boring is thinness, not versatility.
✕
"A heavy attar can be worn lightly in summer." Only so far. A 9.5/10 composition at one dab is still a great deal at 42°C - reviews here are illustrative, not a guarantee.
One dab, at the throat, before you leave - all twelve months. Adaa is the bottle I would build a working year around.
The SOSA attar range
All four are alcohol-free and DPG-free in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml. For an office worn daily, the 12ml of Adaa; Ameeri at two dabs if your workplace is formal.
The most useful thing I have learnt making attars is that versatility is a dosage property, not a magic formulation. A light composition can be worn heavier when it is cold. A deep one cannot be worn light enough for a Pune May - one dab of something at 9.5/10 is still a great deal of scent at forty-two degrees.
That asymmetry is why, if someone tells me they want one attar for the whole Indian year, I point them at the lightest thing I make rather than the most impressive. Adaa at one dab in May, two through the rains and three in January is a genuinely different fragrance experience in each season, from the same bottle.
I would rather sell you one 12ml you wear every day than four bottles you rotate out of obligation. If another house makes a light, alcohol-free, honestly-described composition you prefer, buy that one and wear it all year.
Frequently asked questions
Which SOSA attar is the most versatile?
Adaa - bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk. It has no sugar in its base, which is what lets it survive heat and humidity, and enough material to hold up at three dabs in January. From ₹379.
Can one attar work all year in India?
Yes, if it is light enough to scale. The trick is changing the dose rather than the bottle - one dab in summer, two in the monsoon, three in winter. Adaa is the most scalable composition in the SOSA range for exactly this reason.
How does the dose change through the year?
Roughly: one dab in summer, one or two through the monsoon, two or three in winter. Cold lowers projection by about a step and heat raises it by about a step, so the dose moves in the opposite direction to the temperature.
Do I need different fragrances for different seasons?
No - though it is a pleasure if you want one. What you genuinely need is a different dose. Most people who buy a seasonal wardrobe could have bought one light bottle and adjusted.
Is a versatile attar a boring one?
Only if it is thin. Versatility comes from having no sugar in the base and being scalable - not from having less character. A composition with real materials in it stays interesting at one dab and at three.
