Is it a good return gift on its own? Only for somebody who already owns an ultrasonic diffuser. For a general guest list it needs a machine to be useful, which makes it a refill rather than a standalone gift.
What should I give if my guests do not own diffusers? Stretch by Rs 80 to Rs 379, where a coconut-soy candle or a 12ml alcohol-free attar works for anybody without requiring a device.
This is the floor of the range, and the floor has a condition attached
Three hundred rupees is where this ladder stops being theoretical, and it is worth being exact about what lands there. The Hotel Collection at two hundred and ninety-nine rupees for 15ml is the cheapest item SOSA makes - not the cheapest in a category, the cheapest full stop - and there is nothing below it. So a three-hundred-rupee budget buys precisely one thing, and the useful question is not what else there is but whether that one thing suits the people on your list. Here is what it actually is. The Hotel Collection is a water-based fragrance concentrate designed for ultrasonic diffusers, the kind that sit on a table with a small tank of water and produce a fine cool mist. You put three to six drops into the tank. It is not a perfume you spray, not an oil you put on skin, and importantly not reed diffuser oil - it will not work in a reed diffuser and reed oil will not work in a machine. There are seven registers: Quiet Luxury in white tea, bergamot and cedar; White Tea Serenity in white tea, aloe and cedar; Forest Suite in cedarwood, vetiver and green leaves; Old-World Glamour in amber, violet and woods; Tea Garden in jasmine, green tea and white tea; Warm Welcome in citrus, floral and sandalwood; and Lobby Bar in citrus, pepper and amber. They are SOSA's own interpretations of the kind of quiet, clean, expensive-smelling air associated with good hotel lobbies, and it needs saying plainly that SOSA is independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with any hotel brand. That specification decides everything about whether it is a good return gift. For a guest who owns an ultrasonic diffuser, it is an excellent one: it is the consumable they will actually run out of, it costs two hundred and ninety-nine rupees, it looks and reads well above that, and it is exactly the kind of thing people do not buy for themselves often enough. For a guest who does not own a machine, it is a small bottle of something they cannot use, which is the worst category of gift there is - not offensive, just quietly useless, and it goes into a drawer with a vague intention to buy a diffuser one day. So the honest rule at this tier is: give it when you know, and do not give it blind. It works beautifully as a gift for a specific person whose home you have been in, and poorly as a uniform gift for forty guests you half know. The second half of the question is what to do when the list is general, and the answer is that eighty rupees changes the situation completely. At three hundred and seventy-nine rupees the range opens into things that require nothing of the recipient. A small coconut-soy candle - lead-free eco wick, phthalate-free, hand-poured in Pune, fifteen to eighteen hours of burn - works for anybody with a table and a matchbox. Misty Mornings is Nilgiri orchid and sun-ripened nectarine; Bookshop is cedarwood, sage and lemon; Evening Walks is frankincense and tonka; Cozy Corner is spiced pear and golden honey, which is the most festival-appropriate of the four. At the same price, an alcohol-free attar: Adaa at three hundred and seventy-nine in bergamot, green cardamom, jasmine sambac and white musk, Ameeri at three hundred and eighty-five in Taif rose and Indian sandalwood, Mastani at three hundred and eighty-nine in night jasmine and Damask rose, Nawaab at three hundred and ninety-nine, which is a white oud composition with Mysore sandalwood and Kashmir saffron rather than a dehn al oud distillate - worth describing accurately. An attar needs nothing but skin, and a 12ml glass bottle reads well above its price because smallness in that format signals concentration rather than economy. Eighty rupees a head across fifty guests is four thousand rupees, which is a real number, so it is a decision rather than a rounding error. The way to make it is to ask how many of your guests own a diffuser. If the answer is most of them - which is true in some circles and not in others - the Hotel Collection is the better gift and the cheaper one. If the answer is a handful, give those people the Hotel Collection and everybody else a candle, which is a two-tier structure that costs almost nothing to run and matches each gift to a household that can use it. There is a third option at this level that hosts sometimes miss. If several of your guests already own machines and you want to give something a bit more complete to a smaller group, the Hotel Collection also comes at nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees for 100ml and one thousand seven hundred and ninety-nine for 300ml, which turns the same product into a top-tier gift without changing what you have to explain. And if you would rather give the machine as well, the Boond at eight hundred and ninety-nine rupees is a 300ml mini USB unit and the Sukoon at one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine is a 500ml one with a timer - but never give a device on its own, because an appliance with nothing to run in it is an errand rather than a gift. One last note, and it is the same one on every page in this cluster: there is no published bulk rate, minimum quantity or lead time here. The right number depends on the quantity, the mix and the date, so it is quoted in writing on WhatsApp rather than printed on a page that will be out of date within a season.
What Rs 299 actually is
What the tier holds and what sits just above it. The decision is really a question about your guest list rather than about the products: how many of these households already own an ultrasonic diffuser. If it is most of them, the floor is the better gift. If it is a few, give those few the concentrate and everybody else something that needs no device.

Return gifts fail in a way everybody has experienced from both sides. You spend real money across fifty guests, and a fortnight later most of it is in a drawer or a kitchen cupboard. The test I use is not what it cost per head - it is whether it will be finished. A box of mithai is finished in four days and forgotten. A decorative object is never finished at all.
Fragrance sits in a useful middle. It gets used up over weeks or months, it needs no shelf space, and it works for a guest list you only half know - which is the real condition of a Diwali party, where you know twenty people well and forty barely at all. Car fragrance in particular has the widest hit rate we see, because almost every adult guest drives and almost nobody has thought about what their car smells like.
One honest note about bulk. We do not publish a bulk rate, a minimum order or a lead time on a blog page, because those depend on the quantity, the mix and the date, and a number written in an article is a number that will be wrong by the time somebody reads it. Message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with your guest count, per-head budget and date and we will put a written quote against it - including when the honest answer is that a price point is not worth doing. A portion of every order supports girl-child education.
