Why your cabin smells musty in the rains
A musty car smell in monsoon is almost never the upholstery going bad. It is water. Wet shoes on the mat, an umbrella dripping in the footwell, damp clothes, a window left ajar in a downpour - the moisture soaks into the carpet and foam under the seats, and in a warm sealed cabin it goes stale. That stale-damp smell is what we call musty, and it will come back every single time the car gets wet again, no matter how much you spray.
The honest mechanism
Mustiness is a moisture problem, not a fragrance problem. A car perfume masks the smell with a pleasant one and freshens the air you breathe - it does not dry the carpet, and it does not kill mould or the microbes that cause the odour. Treat the spray as the finishing step, never the fix.
So before any scent goes anywhere near the car, do the unglamorous part. Pull the mats out and dry them properly - a few hours in airflow, not a quick wipe.
