Founder Diaries · Car Perfumes, Parking & How a Car Is Actually Used
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 10 min read Updated September 2026
Of everything that moves when somebody changes cars, the parking space is the change that gets least attention and deserves most. The car itself is a sealed volume of air with seats in it, and that is true of every car ever built. But where it sits for the ten or twelve hours nobody is in it decides how long it stays shut, what state it is in when you open the door, whether you ever leave a window down, how much dust settles on the dashboard, and how long you spend in the cabin before you start moving. Those are behaviours, and behaviours are the only variables this bank can honestly speak to. The plug beside the car is not one of them.
SOSA Sea Breeze car perfume, spray or hanging, from Rs 449
SOSA car perfume · spray or hanging, same price · chosen by how the car is parked from ₹449 →
What a covered bay actually changes: the routine around the car, not the behaviour of anything inside it. SOSA publishes no seasonal or temperature performance claim and nothing at all about charging. What is published is the choice of format. A 10ml spray is ₹449 to ₹549 and holds 100 sprays, three months and above at one a day. The 12ml hanging is the same price and runs 4 to 6 weeks, with the stopper as its one control.
Quick answers — read this first
Does covered parking change how car fragrance should be used? It changes your routine around the car, which is the part that matters. SOSA publishes no temperature or seasonal performance claim, so nothing here says a scent behaves differently under a roof. What does change is whether you open a window before driving, how long the door stays open and how settled the cabin is when you get in - and those decide whether you reach for the bottle at all.

Is charging at home a fragrance variable? No. Charging is not a fragrance variable and SOSA publishes nothing about it. A car on a charger overnight is a car that is shut for ten hours, which would be equally true of a petrol car on the same driveway with no cable attached. The hours the cabin is closed are real; the cable is incidental to them.

What should I actually buy for a car parked under cover every night? The same decision as anyone else: fragrance you switch on, or fragrance that simply runs. A 10ml spray at ₹449 to ₹549 is 100 sprays and does nothing until you press it. The 12ml hanging is the same price, runs 4 to 6 weeks and asks nothing of you - but it is also running through every one of those parked hours.
The short answer
Short answer: Covered parking changes the routine around the car rather than anything about the fragrance. SOSA publishes no temperature or seasonal performance claim, and charging is not a fragrance variable at all. What genuinely changes is how long the cabin stays shut, whether you ventilate before driving and how settled the car is when you open the door. A SOSA 10ml spray is Rs 449 to Rs 549 and holds 100 sprays, or the 12ml hanging is the same price and runs 4 to 6 weeks.
The pick: A 12ml SOSA hanging car perfume, ₹449 to ₹509 - 4 to 6 weeks in refillable glass, with the stopper tightened, for a car that sits in the same covered bay every night and is opened at the same time every morning.
Why: A car parked in one predictable place has a predictable routine, and a format that simply runs suits a predictable routine better than one that asks for a decision at the same moment every day.
What the car runs on is not the variable. How it is used is.On demand - 10ml spray ₹449 to ₹549, published at 100 spraysContinuous - 12ml hanging, same price, 4 to 6 weeksVentilate a hot or long-shut cabin before you judge itNever - fragrance instead of finding a smell's source
A car spends most of its life empty. The hours that matter are the ones somebody is sitting in it, and on a typical commute that is one or two out of twenty-four. The useful decision is therefore not which product lasts longest while nobody is there - it is whether you want fragrance you switch on or fragrance that simply runs. A 10ml spray is published at 100 sprays, which is three months at one a day and fifty days at two; a 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks and its stopper loosens for more or tightens for less. Nothing here depends on what is under the bonnet.
Straight answer
My old car was parked outdoors but my new EV is parked near the home charger under cover - should this change in parking environment influence fragrance usage?
Yes, but for reasons about your routine rather than anything about the product, and the charger is not one of them. Take the charger out of the question first. Charging is not a fragrance variable, and SOSA publishes nothing whatsoever about it. A car connected overnight is a car that is shut for ten hours in a particular place; a petrol car on the same driveway is shut for ten hours in the same place, and the cable makes no difference to the air inside either of them. What matters is the closure and the location, and those you genuinely did change. Here is what moves when a car comes in off the street and under a roof. The cabin is shut for a long uninterrupted block, in the same spot, at the same times, every day - so your routine around it becomes regular in a way it was not when parking was wherever you found it. You are likely to open the door and get in without a pause, rather than standing there a moment as you did on the street. Dust settles differently. You may be willing to leave a window slightly down, which you would not have done on a public road, and that single habit changes the first thirty seconds of every drive more than any product decision you will make. What I will not tell you is that a cooler or shadier bay makes a fragrance last longer or behave differently. SOSA publishes no seasonal or temperature performance claim. The range is formulated and tested for 45 degrees C heat and 85 per cent humidity, which is a statement about the product surviving an Indian car park intact - not a curve showing it performing better in one and worse in another. So the practical recommendation is about format. A SOSA 10ml spray is ₹449 for Jasmine, ₹479 for Lavender and Sandalwood, ₹489 for Icy Mint, ₹499 for Lemon, ₹509 for Oud, Vetiver and Sea Breeze and ₹549 for Mysore Orange Blossom, published at 100 sprays - 3 months and above at one a day, 50 days at two a day. That suits somebody who wants to decide. The 12ml hanging is the same price for the same scent, runs 4 to 6 weeks in refillable glass with a stopper that loosens for stronger or tightens for subtler, and suits a car with a routine as regular as yours has just become - at the cost of spending most of its output on the parked hours. And fragrance adds a scent to a cabin; it does not remove, neutralise or mask one, so if a covered bay has introduced any smell you did not have before, that is a question about the space and the car rather than about the bottle. A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
The bay changed your routine, not the chemistry. And the cable beside the car is not a fragrance variable.
The short version for a car that has moved indoors: the hours it is shut and what you do in the first minute of the drive are the variables; the cable is not one. A 10ml spray at ₹449 to ₹549 is 100 sprays, three months and above at one a day. The 12ml hanging at the same price runs 4 to 6 weeks and suits a routine that repeats exactly.
SOSA car perfumes from ₹449

Three things covered parking actually changes, and one it does not

Parking is the most underrated variable in this whole category, and it is underrated for a boring reason: nobody sells parking. Three things genuinely change when a car moves from the street to a covered bay, and one thing conspicuously does not.

01
The routine, not the chemistry
A predictable bay makes everything around the car predictable too
A car parked wherever you found a space has an irregular life: different spots, different times, different distances from your front door, and a different sequence of doors and windows each morning. A car in the same covered bay every night has none of that. Same place, same hours shut, same walk to it, same first thirty seconds. That regularity is the real change, and it is the reason a set-and-forget format becomes more attractive than it was before - a routine that repeats exactly is a routine a continuous format fits neatly. It is also why your own spray rate is now much easier to hold constant, which matters if you are still working out what that rate should be. Regular conditions are what make a measurement mean something.
Tip: Predictable parking is what turns a vague impression into something you can actually test.
02
The claim this page refuses
No temperature or seasonal performance claim exists, so none is made here
The tempting thing to say about covered parking is that it is kinder to a fragrance, and there is no published basis for saying it. SOSA makes no seasonal performance claim and publishes no temperature curve. What the pages do say is that the range is formulated and tested for 45 degrees C heat and 85 per cent humidity, and that is a formulation and stability statement - the product is built to survive an Indian car park - rather than evidence that it behaves one way in a shaded bay and another on an open street. Nor is there any evaporation figure, scent-throw distance or projection measurement anywhere in the range to reason from. So the honest answer to 'is a covered bay better for my perfume' is that nothing published supports either answer, and the things that genuinely differ are the ones in the panels either side of this one.
03
The non-variable, named
The cable is incidental; the closure is the fact
It is worth being direct because the question usually arrives with the charger in it. Charging is not a fragrance variable and SOSA publishes nothing about it. The useful way to see it is that the hours a car spends connected are simply parked hours with a cable attached - the cabin is shut, nobody is in it, and that would be true with or without the plug. The three clocks worth separating are the hours the car is shut, the hours it is occupied, and the hours anybody is thinking about it, and only the second one has anything to do with fragrance. Ten hours shut overnight, an hour occupied in the morning and evening, and a bottle that is either running through all of it or pressed once in the middle of it. That is the entire decision, and it is identical on any driveway.
Tip: Connected hours are parked hours with a cable on them, and parked hours have nobody in them.
SOSA Mysore Orange Blossom car perfume spray, 10ml and 50ml
The one number that settles most of this
A 10ml spray is 100 sprays. The rest is division.
SOSA publishes the count on the bottle: a 10ml spray is 100 sprays, and the 50ml is 500 sprays and about a year and more. The pages state the working too - three months and above at one spray a day, and fifty days at two a day. That turns a vague question into an arithmetic one. Spray before every journey and somebody making four short trips a day is out of a 10ml in about twenty-five days; the same bottle in the hands of somebody who sprays once each morning lasts the published three months. Neither is wrong - but only one of them is what the person expected when they bought it. Work out your own number before you decide the product is not lasting, because a hundred sprays is a hundred sprays regardless of how the car is powered.
See Mysore Orange Blossom from ₹549 →
Work it out in this order
Work out what your new parking actually changed
  1. Count the hours the cabin is shut, and the hours somebody is inside it.
  2. Note what you now do differently in the first minute of the drive.
  3. Drop a window for two minutes before judging the cabin at all.
  4. Then pick the format: pressed when you want it, or simply running.
The SOSA principle
Where a car sleeps decides the routine around it, and the routine decides the format. What it does not decide is anything about how a fragrance behaves, because nothing published speaks to that at all.
Which is why the useful question about a covered bay is what you now do differently at eight in the morning.

Which format suits a car that is shut in the same place every night

With the routine settled, the scent becomes a straightforward preference - spray and hanging cost the same for the same scent, so nothing is being traded. Jasmine at ₹449 opens the range and Lavender at ₹479 is published as the softest of all nine. Sea Breeze at ₹509, Icy Mint at ₹489 and Lemon at ₹499 are the bright end, and they are the usual choice for a car opened first thing in the morning. Sandalwood at ₹479, Vetiver at ₹509 and Oud at ₹509 are the deep woods, Oud published as the deepest. Mysore Orange Blossom at ₹549 is spray only and has no hanging version and no refill.

The SOSA gift edit
Four ways to handle a car that sleeps in the same covered bay
The option Who it suits, and where it fails
A 12ml hanging with the stopper tightened, ₹449 to ₹509 Suits a routine this regular better than anything else - 4 to 6 weeks in refillable glass, nothing to remember, and tightening the stopper is the published way to ask for subtler. It fails on the arithmetic: most of its output goes into a parked car with nobody in it.
A 10ml spray, ₹449 to ₹549 100 sprays, three months and above at one a day, and every one of them deliberate. It fails when the routine is so automatic that you get in and drive without a pause - the format that needs a decision is wasted on a morning that has none.
Ventilate first, then decide Costs nothing and answers more questions than either product. Drop a window for the first two minutes and see what the cabin is actually like before you add anything. It fails as a complete answer, because ventilation gives you information rather than a scent.
Both - hang one, keep a spray in the door The combination the product pages describe, and a fair fit for a car with a fixed routine and occasional exceptions. It fails on cost and on control: two purchases, and a hanging you cannot turn down for the one journey you wanted quieter.
SOSA Lavender car perfume, spray and hanging formats
The format choice, and why price does not decide it
Spray or hanging - the same price, scent for scent
This is the unusual part of the SOSA car range and it makes the decision cleaner than it usually is: the spray and the hanging cost the same for any given scent - ₹449 for Jasmine, ₹479 for Lavender and Sandalwood, ₹489 for Icy Mint, ₹499 for Lemon, ₹509 for Oud, Vetiver and Sea Breeze. So you are not trading money against convenience; you are choosing between fragrance you decide to have and fragrance that is simply there. The spray is 100 sprays in 10ml and you control every one of them. The hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks in refillable glass and asks nothing of you, and its stopper is the strength control - loosen for stronger, tighten for subtler. One further practical difference that decides it for some people: 15ml refills exist for the hanging and there is no spray refill at all.
See SOSA car perfumes from ₹449 →

Three practical notes for a car that lives in one place. 15ml refills exist for the hanging at ₹399 to ₹449 across eight scents, in a refillable glass bottle, which suits a fixed routine well; there is no spray refill at all, so a spray is replaced rather than topped up; and Orange Blossom has no refill in either format. The range is alcohol-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free and IFRA-compliant, formulated and tested for 45 degrees C heat and 85 per cent humidity - a statement about the product surviving an Indian car park, and not a claim about how it performs in any season or any bay. On presentation, custom label or logo on product is the only branding option, with no custom box and no printed sleeve.

The premise worth rejecting before anything else
A fragrance does not know what is turning the wheels.
There is no petrol product, no diesel product and no electric product in the SOSA range, and SOSA publishes nothing whatsoever about powertrain - because a perfume in a closed cabin behaves the same way whether that cabin is being pushed along by a battery or an engine. What genuinely differs between two owners is everything else: where the car is parked and for how long, how many separate journeys it makes in a day, how many of those hours anybody is actually inside it, whether the windows are open, and who else is in the car. Those are real variables and they change the answer completely. The published figures speak to them directly: a 10ml spray is 100 sprays, which is three months and more at one a day and fifty days at two; a 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks continuously with a stopper that loosens for more and tightens for less; the 50ml is 500 sprays and about a year and more. So when two people with identical cars need different answers, it is never because one of them is electric.

The SOSA gifting range

Two questions settle almost every car fragrance decision, and neither of them is what the car runs on. How many hours a day is somebody actually sitting in it? A 25 km commute is about an hour; a field job can be four. That number decides how much of what you buy is experienced by anybody at all, because the rest of the day is a sealed cabin in a parking bay. Then: do you want fragrance you switch on, or fragrance that simply runs? The 10ml spray holds 100 sprays and does nothing until you press it; the 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks whether anybody is there or not, and its stopper loosens for stronger or tightens for subtler. They cost the same for the same scent, so price does not decide it - which is unusual, and useful.

The SOSA range, sorted by how much it asks of the person receiving it
Start from what the gift demands, not from what it costs
Product What it is What it is for Price
SOSA car perfume spray - 10ml Fragrance you switch on ₹449 to ₹549 across nine scents. Published at 100 sprays - 3 months and above at one a day, 50 days at two a day. A fine-mist atomizer; one spray covers the cabin from ₹449
SOSA car hanging - 12ml Fragrance that simply runs The same price as the spray, scent for scent. Published at 4 to 6 weeks of continuous diffusion in a refillable glass bottle, and the stopper adjusts it - loosen for stronger, tighten for subtler from ₹449
SOSA car perfume spray - 50ml The long-run size ₹1,499, published at 500 sprays and about a year and more. The honest size when you already know the routine, and the wrong one while you are still working it out ₹1,499
Car perfume combos Two scents, one purchase ₹899 for Jasmine & Lemon or Jasmine & Lavender; ₹949 for Oud + Lemon or Sandalwood & Oud. Spray combo (2 x 10ml) or hanging combo (2 x 12ml) at the same price. Four published pairs from ₹899
Car Perfume Sprays Discovery Set Three to try ₹699 to ₹899 for three sprays, or ₹2,999 for all nine. Nine published combinations, and those nine are the whole range - none is composed to order from ₹699
Hanging refills - 15ml Only the hanging refills ₹399 to ₹449 across eight scents. There is no spray refill, and Orange Blossom has no refill at all - so if refilling matters, that decides the format for you from ₹399
SOSA Safar The powered option ₹3,999, or ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired sets. A different category from a spray or a hanging, and listed here so you can rule it in or out rather than wonder from ₹3,999

The fact that answers most of these questions is a division sum. A 10ml spray is published at 100 sprays. Somebody who sprays before each of four short daily trips empties it in about twenty-five days; somebody who sprays once a day gets the published three months and more. The 50ml is 500 sprays and about a year and more. The 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks instead, continuously, and its stopper adjusts the strength - loosen for more, tighten for less. Spray and hanging are the same price scent for scent, so the choice is genuinely about how you want to use the car rather than what you want to spend. Everything is alcohol-free, phthalate-free and IFRA-compliant, formulated for 45 degrees C heat and 85 per cent humidity, made in India. Fragrance adds a scent to a cabin; it does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify an odour and it does not clean the air - so a car that has developed a smell is a question about the car, not about the perfume. Prices above are published retail prices; bulk orders are welcome and custom label or logo on product is available, with quantities settled on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531. SOSA is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, sending orders across India. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal

We get asked which car perfume is right for an electric car, and I have never been able to give the answer the question wants. There isn't one. A fragrance sits in a closed box of air with a person in it, and that box does not behave differently because the thing moving it is a battery. If anyone tells you otherwise they are selling you a category, not a product.

What I can tell you is what actually changes between two owners, because it is not subtle. One car is occupied ninety minutes a day and another is occupied six. One sits in a basement and one bakes outdoors for nine hours. One has the windows down for the first ten minutes of every drive and one never opens them at all. One is driven by three people who want three different things from it. Those differences are enormous, and none of them is on the spec sheet of the car.

So the numbers I would want you to hold on to are the ones about use rather than about chemistry. A 10ml spray is a hundred sprays. That is three months if you spray once a day and about fifty days if you spray twice, and if you spray before every one of four short errands it is gone in under a month. The hanging runs four to six weeks and you can loosen or tighten the stopper to change it. Those two facts settle more of these questions than anything I could tell you about the car.

And the part I will not pretend about: a perfume cannot fix a smell. It adds a scent, it does not remove one. If a car has started smelling of something it did not smell of before, that is a question about the car - the air-conditioning, the mats, something in the boot, water that got in during the monsoon - and adding fragrance on top of it is the one thing I would ask you not to do.

Frequently asked questions

Does parking under cover make a car perfume last longer?
SOSA publishes no seasonal or temperature performance claim, so there is no figure to support that and none to refute it either. The pages state that the range is formulated and tested for 45 degrees C heat and 85 per cent humidity, which is a statement about the product surviving an Indian car park rather than a performance curve for one bay against another.
Does charging at home affect the fragrance in the car?
No. Charging is not a fragrance variable and SOSA publishes nothing about it. What is relevant is the same thing that would be relevant for a petrol car on the same driveway: the cabin is shut for eight to ten hours and nobody is inside it. The hours a car spends connected are simply parked hours with a cable attached.
Should I leave a window down in a covered bay?
That is a decision about your parking rather than about fragrance, and it belongs to you and your building. What it does change is the first minute of the drive, and that minute is worth more than any product choice - a cabin that has aired needs less added to it than one that has been shut tight since the night before.
Which format suits a car with a very regular routine?
The 12ml hanging is the better fit on habit alone: it runs 4 to 6 weeks in refillable glass, its stopper loosens for stronger and tightens for subtler, and it asks nothing of a morning that has become automatic. The cost is that its output runs through the parked hours as well, and most of a parked car's hours have nobody in them.
How long does a 10ml spray actually last?
It holds 100 sprays. The published working is 3 months and above at one spray a day, or 50 days at two a day, so your own rate decides it rather than the bottle. A 50ml is Rs 1,499 and holds 500 sprays, published as about a year and more, and is the sensible size only once your rate has settled.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product details reflect the SOSA range; the reasoning about parking, occupancy and ventilation applies to any brand.

Specifications verified from the live SOSA product pages, September 2026: SOSA publishes nine car perfume scents. Eight are sold in two formats at the same price per scent - a 10ml spray and a 12ml hanging: Jasmine ₹449; Lavender and Sandalwood ₹479; Icy Mint ₹489; Lemon ₹499; Oud, Vetiver and Sea Breeze ₹509. Mysore Orange Blossom is spray only, ₹549 in 10ml. A 50ml spray is ₹1,499. The published quantities are: 10ml equals 100 sprays, stated as three months and above at one spray a day and fifty days at two a day; 50ml equals 500 sprays, stated as about a year and more; a spray combo is 200 sprays; and a 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks, that is 28 to 42 days, of continuous diffusion in a refillable glass bottle whose stopper loosens for stronger and tightens for subtler. Four combos are published - Jasmine & Lemon and Jasmine & Lavender at ₹899, Oud + Lemon and Sandalwood & Oud at ₹949 - each as a spray combo of 2 x 10ml or a hanging combo of 2 x 12ml at the same price. The Car Perfume Sprays Discovery Set publishes nine combinations, ₹699 to ₹899 for three and ₹2,999 for all nine; those nine are the entire set range and none is composed to order. Hanging refills are 15ml at ₹399 to ₹449 across eight scents; there is no spray refill and Orange Blossom has no refill. Everything is alcohol-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free and IFRA-compliant, formulated for 45 degrees C heat and 85 per cent relative humidity, made in India. SOSA Safar is ₹3,999, or ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired sets. What is not published, and is therefore not stated here: any difference in fragrance behaviour between petrol, diesel and electric vehicles - SOSA makes no powertrain-specific product and no powertrain claim; any cabin-volume, coverage, scent-throw, projection or evaporation figure; any claim about how a scent is perceived over hours or about sensory adaptation; any seasonal performance claim beyond the stated formulation for heat and humidity; any shelf life, expiry or concentration; and any bulk rate, minimum quantity, price break or lead time. Limits of this guide: fragrance adds a scent to a cabin. It does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify an odour, it does not clean the air, and a car that has developed a new smell is a question about the vehicle rather than about perfume. No health claim is made anywhere on this page, in either direction - nothing here states or implies that any fragrance causes or prevents a headache, nausea, motion sickness or any other effect, and nothing is said about safety in pregnancy or for children or the elderly, because SOSA publishes no information this page can rely on. No third-party brand is named and no competitor or category of competing product is characterised. No rating, review count, strength percentage or customer name from any product page is cited. Bulk orders are welcome and custom label or logo on product is available; that is the only branding option, and quantities are settled on WhatsApp. SOSA Home & Body is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, Maharashtra, sending orders across India, with no shop, showroom, stockist, counter or warehouse in any other city. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live product pages.
