A car is a small, hot, moving, breathing box — and where you put the scent decides everything. The same perfume can be a quiet pleasure on a cool vent or a headache on a sunlit dashboard. Placement is not a detail; it is most of the answer.

I get asked which car perfume is strongest far more often than I get asked where to put it — and it is the wrong question. In a cabin this small, with the sun turning the dashboard into a hotplate and the AC pushing air in a fixed pattern, placement does most of the work. A gentle perfume in the right spot beats a powerful one in the wrong one every single time. So before you spend more, move what you have. Here is how I think about the three real positions.

On the airflow
The AC vent — even, gentle, the default

The air-conditioning vent is where I send most people first. Clipped there, a hanging car perfume rides the moving air, so the scent spreads through the whole cabin evenly instead of sitting in one hot pocket. You also control it instantly: turn the fan down or shut that vent and the throw drops. Under the seat — the mildest, safest throw
Tucked under a front seat or in a rear footwell, a hanging perfume gives its gentlest, most diffuse throw — the scent rises slowly and fills the cabin from below, which is lovely for passengers in the back and for anyone prone to headaches. Nothing is swinging in your sightline, nothing bakes in the sun. This is my recommendation for families, for the motion-sickness-prone, and for anyone who finds vent placement a touch strong. It is quieter and more forgiving, and forgiving is exactly what a moving box of air wants.
Honest caveat: under-seat throw is deliberately mild. If you can barely smell it after a week, flip or refresh it — do not compensate by hanging three of them.
