Square Footage, Ceiling Height, Floors, Open Doors and Air Conditioning: What Determines a Villa's Scenting Setup?

Run five inputs, in order, and do not skip any of them because one number looks decisive on its own. Input one: floor area. This is the number every conversation starts with, and it is genuinely useful - but only as a starting point. A 3,000 sq ft villa and a 3,000 sq ft villa can need entirely different setups once the other four inputs are checked, so treat this as the opening number, never the final answer. Input two: ceiling height. A machine fills air volume, not floor plan, and volume depends on height as much as footprint. The formula is sq ft × ceiling height in feet ÷ 35.3 = m³ - do this calculation for the actual room, not an assumed standard height, especially anywhere the ceiling is taller than the villa's typical 9-10 feet. A 600 sq ft room at a 20-foot ceiling holds about 340m³, the same volume as a 1,200 sq ft room at a standard 10-foot ceiling - proof that floor area alone consistently misleads once height varies. Input three: how many floors, and how connected they are. A villa's total square footage divided across two or three floors is not one air space - it is that many separate zones, because scent does not reliably travel up a staircase and through a closed bedroom door, and guests close bedroom doors. Size each floor's own connected living area to its own volume; never assume a ground-floor machine reaches upstairs. Where a floor genuinely is one open, connected space - a single-storey villa's living-dining-kitchen, however large - it is sized as one zone, not split into several small units. Input four: open doors and air exchange. Balcony doors, pool doors, a villa built to open onto a garden - any of these mean constant air exchange with the outdoors, and constant air exchange defeats any intensity setting a machine can offer. No amount of turning the dial up compensates for a door standing open; the fix is scheduling the machine to run while the house is closed - ahead of check-in, in the evening - rather than fighting the leak. Input five: air conditioning. A closed, air-conditioned room holds a fragrance level steadily, because the air is not being exchanged with the outside and the AC's own circulation helps distribute scent evenly from a machine placed near the return. A naturally ventilated room with windows or doors regularly open behaves like input four above - it needs to be scented when closed, not fought while open. Put the five together and the machine choice follows directly.
