This is one of the few head-to-heads in this bank that the range answers properly, because both halves of your shortlist genuinely exist here. Rose-oud is Mastani. Saffron-amber is Nawaab. And there is a third answer sitting between them that you did not ask about but probably should have, which is Ameeri: rose with saffron over sandalwood and a soft oudh. Three real options, one condition you have set, and that condition decides it. You said you do not want excessive floral sweetness, and that single clause takes the most floral of the three off the top of your list.
Quick answers — read this first
Should I buy a rose-oud or a saffron-amber attar for evening wear? If you have said you want richness without heavy floral sweetness, buy the saffron-amber, which in the SOSA range is Nawaab: oud, sandalwood, saffron, black pepper, cardamom, aged tobacco leaf, amber, leather and white musk, with no floral note in it. The rose-oud reading is Mastani, with night-blooming jasmine and Damask rose over oudh, and it is the most floral of the three. Ameeri sits between them, with rose and saffron carried on sandalwood.

What is the difference between Ameeri, Mastani and Nawaab? Mastani leads with flowers over oudh. Ameeri leads with a rose but frames it in sandalwood and saffron with a soft oudh underneath. Nawaab has no flower at all and runs nine notes from pepper and cardamom through saffron, oud and sandalwood to amber, leather and tobacco leaf. In depth order, lightest to deepest, the whole range runs Adaa, then Mastani, then Ameeri, then Nawaab. All three are in the trio at ₹1,055 for three 3mls.

Can a product page tell me which is better for evening? Only by convention. Occasion is not a measured property of a fragrance, and no brand in this category publishes a projection or throw figure, ourselves included, so nobody can honestly rank three attars by how much space they occupy. The defensible proxy is composition depth, which is published and comparable. Our only wear figure is 6-8 hours on skin, longer on warm or oily skin, and it is the same for all four, so it cannot separate a shortlist.
The short answer
Short answer: Saffron-amber, which here means Nawaab. Rose-oud is Mastani, the most floral of the three and therefore the wrong first choice for somebody avoiding floral sweetness. Nawaab has no rose in it at all: saffron, oud, sandalwood, black pepper, cardamom, tobacco leaf, amber, leather and musk.
The pick: Nawaab, 3ml at ₹399, if the no-floral-sweetness condition is the hard one. Ameeri at 3ml ₹385 if you want rose present but structured by wood rather than leading. Mastani at 3ml ₹389 only if, on reflection, you do want the floral in front. All three are in the trio at ₹1,055 for three 3mls.
Honest note: an attar is bought unsmelled, so a list of notes is all you have. A note list describes an intention, not a smell, and nothing written here is a substitute for wearing it.
Four attars - lightest opening to deepest baseAdaa · Mastani · Ameeri · Nawaab3ml from ₹379  |  6ml from ₹669  |  12ml from ₹1,149Dab on pulse points - oil wants warmth, not rubbing6-8 hours on skin · alcohol-free · DPG-free carrier
There are four SOSA attars and they run from a bergamot-and-cardamom opening at the lightest end to white royal oud at the deepest. Adaa is the freshest, Mastani the most floral, Ameeri the warmest, Nawaab the deepest. All four are alcohol-free on a jojoba carrier with no DPG, come with a dab applicator, and wear 6-8 hours on skin - longer on warm or oily skin. Sizes are 3ml, 6ml and 12ml, from Rs 379. None of that tells you whether you will like the smell, which is why the smallest size exists.
Straight answer
Rose-oud or saffron-amber attar for evening wear, if I want something rich without heavy floral sweetness?
Saffron-amber. In this range that is Nawaab, and the reason is your own condition.

The three real candidates, because there are three rather than two. Mastani is the rose-and-oud reading: night-blooming jasmine, Damask rose and oudh. Nawaab is the saffron-amber reading, and a long one: white oud, sandalwood, saffron, black pepper, cardamom, aged tobacco leaf, amber, leather and white musk. Ameeri sits between the two, a rose with saffron carried on sandalwood over a soft oudh. Those three are also, as it happens, exactly the three attars in the trio, which is the one case in this bank where a reader with a three-way shortlist can simply buy the shortlist.

Now your condition, which does the deciding. You wrote "without excessive floral sweetness". Of the three, Mastani is the floral one by construction: two flowers in front, a night-blooming jasmine and a Damask rose, with the oudh underneath them rather than over them. That is not a criticism of Mastani, it is a description of it, and a reader who starts by ruling out floral sweetness has ruled out the composition whose first two notes are flowers. Ameeri keeps a rose but puts wood and saffron around it, so the rose reads structured rather than lush. Nawaab has no floral in it at all.

So the answer is Nawaab, and here is what it actually is. Nine notes, which makes it the longest composition in the range and the deepest: the saffron and the amber you asked about, plus oud, sandalwood, black pepper, cardamom, aged tobacco leaf, leather and white musk. Depth order across the four runs Adaa, Mastani, Ameeri, Nawaab, and Nawaab is the end of that line. If what you mean by evening is the deepest thing in the range, this is it.

One honest warning about amber, since you raised sweetness. Amber is the commonest route to a sweet reading in any composition, and Nawaab has amber in its base. It sits there alongside leather, tobacco leaf and oud, which pull hard in the opposite direction, so the result is not a sweet fragrance by construction. But if your objection is to sweetness of any kind rather than to floral sweetness specifically, then you should know that the one sweet-capable material in this comparison is in the bottle I am recommending. The difference between a warm amber and a sweet vanilla is worth two minutes before you order.

And a word about the word luxurious. I am not going to tell you that any of these smells expensive, because that is not a property an oil has. It is a perception, and it belongs to the person smelling it, not to the bottle. What I can translate "luxurious" into is three things you can actually check on a page: how many notes the composition carries, how deep the base sits, and whether the materials people associate with the word are present at all. On all three, Nawaab is the answer in this range, and saying it that way is honest where "it smells luxurious" would not be.

What evening does not tell you, and nobody will admit. Occasion suitability is a convention rather than a measurement. Nobody in this category publishes a measured projection figure, ourselves included, so no page can rank these three by how much room they take. Our one published wear figure is 6-8 hours on skin, longer on warm or oily skin, and it is the same figure for all four, so it separates nothing. Depth is the legitimate proxy for evening and it is the one I have used here. The full method for ranking a three-name shortlist without inventing performance data is set out separately.

Then the size, which is the part people get wrong. A 3ml of Nawaab is ₹399. If you genuinely cannot pick between the three, the trio of Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani is ₹1,055 for three 3ml bottles, which is the whole shortlist for a little more than the price of three singles bought separately. What I would not do is buy a 12ml of any of them first. Buy the smallest size first, every time.
Saffron-amber, which is Nawaab - saffron, oud, sandalwood, pepper, cardamom, tobacco leaf, amber, leather, musk, and no rose anywhere. Rose-oud is Mastani and it is the most floral of the three. Ameeri is the middle road. 3ml from ₹385, or all three in the trio at ₹1,055.
If you will not guess, do not guess. The trio - Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani - is ₹1,055 at 3ml, which is three of the four compositions for ₹118 less than buying those three 3mls separately. It is the right purchase for somebody who has read the note lists and still cannot choose, and the wrong one for somebody who already knows which family they want.
The trio from ₹1,055

Three compositions, one condition, and the word that decides it

Three things settle this, and the only one that needs a decision from you is the first. The other two are already published.

1
The clause
Your own condition eliminates one of the three
"Without excessive floral sweetness" is a filter, and it is a good one because it is checkable against a note list. Mastani opens on two flowers, a night-blooming jasmine and a Damask rose, with the oudh beneath them. A reader who rules out floral sweetness has ruled out the composition built on flowers. That leaves Ameeri, where a rose is framed by wood and saffron, and Nawaab, which has no floral note whatsoever.
Tip: Write your dealbreaker down first, then read the note lists against it.
2
Amber
The sweet-capable material is in the one I am recommending
Amber is the usual route to a sweet reading, and Nawaab has amber in its base. It is surrounded there by leather, aged tobacco leaf and oud, which pull the other way, so the composition is not built sweet. But if your objection is to sweetness in general rather than floral sweetness in particular, that is the thing to know before you order, and I would rather tell you than have you find out on your own wrist.
Tip: Decide whether you object to all sweetness or only to floral sweetness.
3
Depth
Evening is a convention, and depth is the honest version of it
There is no measured projection figure for any attar from any house, ours included, so nothing on any page can rank these three by presence. The only wear figure we publish is 6-8 hours on skin, longer on warm or oily skin, and it is identical across the four. What is comparable is depth: Adaa, then Mastani, then Ameeri, then Nawaab. If evening means the deepest in the range, Nawaab is the answer by the only measure anybody has.
Tip: Compare published depth, not unpublished projection.
The SOSA principle
Luxurious is not a note. It is a perception, and no honest page can promise you one - what a page can tell you is how many notes are in the bottle and how deep they sit.
Translate the word into something checkable: composition length, base depth, and whether the materials you associate with it are actually listed.

What each of the three actually is

Nawaab is the saffron-amber answer and the deepest composition in the range: oud, sandalwood, saffron, black pepper, cardamom, aged tobacco leaf, amber, leather and white musk. Nine notes and no flower. For a reader who wants richness without a floral leading it, that is the shape of the thing you described, and it is the only one of the four with no floral note on its list at all.

The SOSA attar range
The three candidates against your own condition
Option When it is the right call
Mastani, 3ml ₹389 Night-blooming jasmine, Damask rose, oudh · the rose-oud reading
Trade-off: The most floral of the three, which is what you said you wanted least of
Ameeri, 3ml ₹385 Rose, sandalwood, saffron, soft oudh · rose framed by wood
Trade-off: There is still a rose leading it, so it is a compromise rather than an answer
Nawaab, 3ml ₹399 Saffron and amber with oud, leather, tobacco leaf · deepest of the four · no floral
Trade-off: Amber is the sweet-capable material here, and nine notes is a lot to meet unsmelled
The trio, 3ml ₹1,055 All three of the above, three 3ml bottles
Trade-off: You are buying two bottles you may not reach for, which is only sensible if you genuinely will not choose

Mastani is the rose-oud answer, with night-blooming jasmine and Damask rose over oudh, and it is the most floral of the three by construction. Ameeri is the compromise and a genuinely good one: a rose with saffron, carried on sandalwood with a soft oudh beneath, so the rose is present and framed rather than out in front. If you want rose but not a bouquet, Ameeri is the bottle.

Not sure which of the four is yours?
Tell us the three fragrances you wear most and the notes you cannot stand. If none of our four fits what you describe, we will say so rather than sell you a bottle you will not wear.
Ask first
You ruled out floral sweetness in the question, and that rules out the composition whose first two notes are flowers. Your own condition answered this before I did.

The SOSA attar range

Every SOSA attar is alcohol-free and IFRA-compliant on a jojoba carrier with no DPG, hand-blended in small batches in Pune. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. There are four, and the honest way to read them is by depth - how much the base note is doing.

The SOSA attar range
Four attars, lightest to deepest - 3ml from ₹379
Attar Built on What it is, honestly 3ml
Adaa Bergamot, green cardamom, jasmine sambac, white musk The lightest of the four and the easiest first attar. Jasmine sambac is mogra, so this is also the mogra answer ₹379
Ameeri Taif rose, Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron, soft oudh The warm one. Rose and sandalwood doing most of the work, with the oudh kept soft ₹385
Mastani Night-blooming jasmine, Damask rose, oudh The most floral. A different jasmine and a different rose from Adaa and Ameeri ₹389
Nawaab White royal oud, sandalwood, saffron, tobacco leaf, amber, leather The deepest in the range. Not a first attar unless you already know you like oud ₹399
The trio Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani together Three of the four at once. The honest answer when you cannot choose and will not guess ₹1,055

Four honest notes. A note list is not a smell. Every composition above is described in the words we would use ourselves, and those words still cannot tell you how it will sit on your skin - which is the whole reason the 3ml exists. On the sizes: 3ml, 6ml and 12ml are the same liquid, and the only reason to buy the larger ones is that you already know. If you have not worn it, buy the smallest and let it earn the upgrade. On wear: all four are 6-8 hours on skin, longer on warm or oily skin, and that is the only figure we publish. We do not publish a drop count, a per-application cost, or a comparison with how long anybody else's fragrance lasts - including sprays. On what we do not make: there is no standalone musk, sandalwood, amber, tuberose, vetiver, khus, aquatic or tobacco attar in this range. Four compositions is the whole range, and where your answer is not one of them, this page will say so rather than talk you into the nearest thing.

A note from Sonal

Attars are the part of this business where the marketing is worst, and I would like ours to be the boring, accurate version. Most of the category sells a bottle on adjectives - royal, exotic, hypnotic, long-lasting - and on numbers nobody has measured. You cannot smell any of it before you pay, so the words are doing all the work, and almost nobody writes them honestly.

So here is what I will and will not tell you. I will tell you what is in each of the four, in the order you meet it, and that they wear 6-8 hours on my skin. I will not tell you that one of them smells expensive, or that it will turn heads, or that it lasts twelve hours, because I cannot know the first two about you and have not measured the third. The honest sequence is: read the notes, buy the 3ml, wear it for a week, and only then buy a size. If none of our four matches what you have described to yourself, I would rather say so than sell you the nearest one.

The other thing worth knowing is how little you need. An attar is concentrated oil, and the commonest mistake is wearing it like a spray - a long press at the neck and another at the wrists. One dab at a pulse point is the dose. Two if you want it read across a dinner table. Do not rub it in; oil opens with warmth, and rubbing crushes the top of it. That is the entire dial, and most people never need the top of it. A portion of every order supports girl-child education.

Frequently asked questions

Which SOSA attar is the saffron-amber one?
Nawaab. Saffron and amber both sit in it, alongside oud, sandalwood, black pepper, cardamom, aged tobacco leaf, leather and white musk. It is the longest and deepest composition in the range and the only one with no floral note. A 3ml is Rs 399, a 6ml Rs 699 and a 12ml Rs 1,199.
Which SOSA attar is the rose-oud one?
Mastani, which is night-blooming jasmine and Damask rose over oudh. Ameeri is also a rose with an oudh underneath it, but there the rose is framed by sandalwood and saffron, so it reads drier and more structured. Mastani 3ml is Rs 389; Ameeri 3ml is Rs 385.
Is Nawaab a sweet fragrance?
It is not built as one. Amber is in the base and amber is the usual route to a sweet reading, but it sits with leather, aged tobacco leaf and oud, which pull against sweetness. I will not promise you how it resolves on your skin, because a note list is a description rather than a smell. If sweetness of any kind is a dealbreaker, that amber is the thing to weigh.
Should I just buy the trio?
Only if you genuinely will not choose. The trio is Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani at Rs 1,055 for three 3ml bottles, which is three of the four compositions for a little over the price of three singles. If you have read this page and the no-floral condition still stands, buy one Nawaab 3ml at Rs 399 and keep the rest of your money.
How long will an evening attar last?
The figure SOSA publishes is 6-8 hours on skin, longer on warm or oily skin, and it is the same for all four attars. There is no projection rating, no throw figure and no drop count for any of them, because nobody in this category measures those things and I am not going to be the first to invent one. An attar is a dab, and a 3ml in a pocket can be topped up.

What this guide does not claim.
  • An attar is a fragrance and nothing else.
A note list is not a smell
  • - it names what a composition is built from and the order you meet it in, which is a description of an intention rather than a measurement, and it is
not a substitute for wearing it
  • . Nothing here should be read as advice about health, allergies or anyone's wellbeing, and no fragrance on this page is claimed to affect anybody's mood, comfort, confidence or state of mind. Where a reader describes a preference none of our four compositions matches, these guides say so and sell nothing.

On wear.
  • SOSA publishes one figure:
6-8 hours on skin, longer on warm or oily skin
  • . SOSA does not publish a drop count, a cost per application, a projection rating, or any comparison with how long another format or another company's fragrance lasts. Where a customer review reports a different number, that is one person's experience of their own skin and not a measurement SOSA stands behind.

On what is in the bottle.
  • The composition lists above name the materials a fragrance is built from. They are not a statement of grade, percentage or geographic origin, and this guide makes no claim about either. Where origin or grade matters to you, ask before you buy - that is a fair question and the answer belongs to the product page rather than to an article.

On other companies.
  • Where another fragrance brand is named in these guides it is because a reader named it, and the page answers what they asked. Nothing here states what any other company's product contains, how long it lasts, what it costs or how it performs.
Other brands named are the property of their respective owners · SOSA is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or associated with any other fragrance company named on this page
