The door test
If nobody has to open a door, it is one volume
This is the whole of the separation question in one sentence. Walk from the space that smells right to the space that does not. If you did not have to open or close a door on the way, the two spaces share air and share a machine. A corridor is not a boundary. An archway is not a boundary. A glass partition with a permanently propped-open door is not a boundary. What counts is another floor, a wing behind a fire door that is genuinely kept shut, or a separate annexe with its own entrance. Everything else is one volume with an air path in it, and the answer to an air path is a correctly mounted single source, not a second unit at the far end trying to meet the first one in the middle.

A machine placed for tidiness - behind the desk, in an alcove, on a console against a wall with a return grille above it - is scenting a pocket of still air, and no amount of extra hardware elsewhere in the building will fix that. Find the route air actually takes and mount into it, at height rather than at console level, and if the clinic has central AC, mounting into the supply path is the single biggest improvement available at any price. Then walk the patient route with the machine running before you decide anything. If the corridor is still flat after that, you have a genuine distribution problem worth discussing. Your nose stops registering the fragrance within about twenty minutes. The message usually arrives with a diagram attached and three crosses on it, one per proposed machine, and the question is which model for each. The honest reframe is that the diagram has already answered a different question - it has decided that unevenness is a supply problem. It almost never is. It is a placement problem, and three machines placed by the same reasoning as the first one will simply produce three of the same problem in three places.
What actually happens with multiple sources in one connected clinic is that a patient walks a gradient. Strong at the desk, thin in the middle of the corridor, strong again outside cabin three.
