The confusion here costs people money, so let me draw the line clearly. An odour absorber and a fragrance are not competitors - they are different tools that solve different halves of the problem. Buy the wrong single one and you will be frustrated.
Odour absorber
Activated charcoal, bamboo bags and gel beads physically absorb some odour molecules from the air - they soak up smell rather than covering it. They are unscented (or nearly so) and work slowly and passively. They reduce a lingering smell, but they do not clean the source and they do not make your car smell nice - they make it smell of less.
Fragrance (spray or hanging)
A car fragrance scents and freshens the cabin with a pleasant smell. It does not physically absorb odour and it does not remove the source - it lays a nicer scent over the top and freshens the space.
