There is a question hiding underneath this one, and it is worth pulling out before we answer anything: where does a fragrance go when it leaves you? Outdoors, the answer is everywhere and immediately. In a large ventilated hall, it is up and out through the return grilles. In a small cabin with a split unit and the door shut, the answer is that it does not go anywhere at all. It stays in the same few cubic metres of air, moving in a circle past a cold coil and back again, for as long as you are sitting in it. That single fact is why this is the strongest argument in the whole of this series for wearing less.
Quick answers — read this first
How much fragrance projection is appropriate in an AC chamber? Almost none beyond arm's length. Someone seated across the desk may faintly notice it; someone standing at the door should not; and twenty minutes after you have left, the empty room should not report that anybody was wearing anything. That is the honest ceiling in a space whose air is not being replaced.

Why does air conditioning make this worse rather than better? Because a split unit is a heat exchanger, not a ventilator. It pulls room air across a cold coil, drops the temperature, and blows the same air back in. It is not bringing outside air in and it is not sending inside air out. With the door shut, the exchange rate of a sealed cabin is close to nothing for hours at a time.

Which attar suits a sealed cabin? Adaa at ₹379 for 3ml, one dab at the inner wrist, applied before you leave home. It is the lightest attar SOSA makes and its own page calls it office-safe daytime projection, calibrated to read on you rather than across the room — which is the exact specification a sealed room requires.
The short answer
Short answer: Perceptible at conversational distance and nowhere else. One dab of Adaa (₹379 for 3ml), inner wrist, applied at home, not repeated during the day.
The mechanism: Air conditioning cools and dries air; it does not exchange it. A closed cabin therefore accumulates and stores whatever is released into it, and the cold also makes an oil read quieter to you than it really is.
The honest limit: Nobody can promise that a fragrance changes how you are perceived, trusted or treated, and this guide does not try to. This page is about a physical property of a room and the one dial — the dose — that answers it.
Five radii, and only the first one is any of your businessAcross the desk — faint, and only hereHalfway to the far wall — already too muchAt the door, without entering — a dose errorOut in the corridor — that is spray behaviourThe empty room, twenty minutes later — nothing

Straight answer
I spend hours in an AC chamber — how much fragrance projection is appropriate?
First, the word, because it is used loosely and the whole answer depends on it. Projection is the distance at which a fragrance is detectable by somebody who is not you. It is not longevity, which is how long it survives on skin — the SOSA attars are stated at 6–8 hours on skin, longer on warm or oily skin — and it is not sillage, which is the trail left behind a person who is moving. In a sealed cabin you are not moving and you are not going anywhere for hours, so sillage barely applies and longevity is fixed. Projection is the only one of the three you are actually choosing, and it is a radius: how far from your wrist the fragrance is still reaching.

Now the room, argued properly, because this is the page the rest of this series points at. A split air conditioner is a heat exchanger. It draws room air over a cold evaporator coil, condensation takes some moisture out of it, and a fan pushes the same air back into the same room. There is no duct to outside. It is not bringing fresh air in and it is not pushing used air out — it is a loop, and the only thing that changes across the loop is temperature and humidity. A cabin with a closed door, no openable window and a split unit running has an air exchange rate with the outside world that is close to nothing, interrupted only when somebody opens the door.

Which means a fragrance released into that room has exactly three places to go. Into the noses of the people in it — including yours, which stops reporting within the hour. Onto the surfaces: upholstery, curtains, carpet, paper, files, a jacket on the back of a chair, all of which absorb and then release slowly for the rest of the day. And around the loop again. What it cannot do is leave. In an open office or a ventilated hall, a generous application is diluted by an enormous volume of moving air and much of it is genuinely removed. In a sealed chamber nothing is removed and the volume is tiny. The same dab is a different event in the two rooms, and it is the room that changed, not the fragrance.

There is a second effect and it works against you quietly. Cold, dry air slows the rate at which an oil on your skin volatilises, so inside the chamber a fragrance reads lighter to everyone, including you. The temptation is to read that as evidence you are wearing too little and add more. Then you step into a warm corridor, a car park or the afternoon, your skin warms, and the whole application asserts itself at the level you actually applied rather than the level the cold room let you hear. The dose you chose in an air-conditioned room is validated outside it.

So here is the standard, and it is deliberately severe. Someone seated across your desk at conversational distance may faintly notice it. Someone standing at the door without coming in should not. The corridor outside should not. And the strongest version, the one worth actually using: twenty minutes after you leave, somebody walking into the empty room should not be able to tell that anyone was wearing anything. If they can, the room has been storing your dose all day and handing it to everyone who came through. Adaa at ₹379 for 3ml — bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk — is the lightest thing SOSA makes, and its own page describes it as calibrated to read on you rather than across the room. One dab at the inner wrist, applied before you leave home, not repeated. Nawaab is named on this page only to be ruled out: its own product page calls it a presence scent rather than a daytime office attar, and a presence scent in a room with no exit is simply too much. Nobody can promise that a fragrance changes how you are perceived, trusted or treated, and this guide does not try to. What it can do is stay inside a radius you chose.
Projection is a radius, not a strength. In a sealed cabin the appropriate radius is arm's length and no further, because a split air conditioner recirculates rather than ventilates and the room has nowhere to put what you wear. One dab of Adaa (₹379 for 3ml) at the inner wrist, applied at home. Test it by the empty room, not by your own nose.
For a room with no air exchange, the specification is the lightest register available: Adaa — bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk, alcohol-free and DPG-free, with a built-in dab applicator rather than a spray. ₹379 for 3ml, ₹669 for 6ml.

SOSA Adaa attar
For the sealed cabin, one dab, once a day
SOSA Adaa
Concentrated oil attar with a built-in dab applicator — not a rollerball and not a spray — carried on sandalwood oil and jojoba, no DPG dilutent, no alcohol, IFRA-compliant. Bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk. Wears 6–8 hours on skin, longer on warm or oily skin. SOSA's own page calls it office-safe daytime projection, calibrated to read on you rather than across the room. ₹379 for 3ml, ₹669 for 6ml, ₹1,149 for 12ml.
From ₹379
SOSA Titan solid body perfume
For when the room finally changes
SOSA Titan solid perfume
A 15g solid perfume in a tin, long-lasting and alcohol-free, applied by fingertip. ₹500. Its value in this argument is that it lets you leave the chamber's dose alone all day and make one fresh decision on the way out, in a corridor, without opening a bottle or needing a mirror. Published character: a bitter coffee note over a sharp opening.

The three properties of a sealed room that set the dose

A chamber is not simply a small office. It has three specific physical properties, and each one pushes the honest answer in the same direction: less than you would wear anywhere else.

1
No exchange
The air is cooled, dried and returned — never replaced
A split air conditioner has an indoor unit and an outdoor unit joined by refrigerant pipes, not by a duct carrying air. Heat is moved out of the room; air is not. The indoor unit draws room air across a cold coil, condensation takes some humidity out of it, and the fan returns the same air to the same room. With the door shut for confidentiality, the only genuine air exchange in your working day happens in the few seconds it takes somebody to walk in or out. A fragrance released into that loop has no route out of it.
Tip: If the cabin has an openable window, ten minutes of it between sessions does more for the room than any change of what you are wearing.
SOSA Adaa attar
Adaa is the lightest register SOSA makes — the correct starting point for a volume of air that is not going to be replaced.

2
Cold air misleads
A cool room makes you underestimate your own dose
Volatilisation is temperature-driven. On cool skin in a cold room an oil releases more slowly, so it reads quieter to everybody present — and the person most likely to misread that is you, because you are also the only person who has been adapting to it since the morning. The predictable mistake is to add more at eleven because the chamber feels neutral, and then to walk into a warm corridor at one, where your skin warms and the full application arrives at once in front of people who were nowhere near the cold room.
Tip: Judge a new dose outdoors or in a warm corridor, never in the air-conditioned room where you applied it.
SOSA Titan solid body perfume
A Titan tin at ₹500 puts the evening decision in a corridor rather than in the chamber, where your own nose is least reliable.

3
Soft surfaces store it
What the air holds is the smaller half of the problem
Air moves; furniture does not. Upholstered chairs, curtains, carpet, stacked paper and a jacket hung behind the door all absorb fragrance material and release it slowly afterwards, which is why a room can carry a scent long after the person has gone. In a ventilated space that slow release is continually diluted and removed. In a sealed cabin it is returned to the same small volume of air, every day, on top of the next day's application. The empty-room test exists precisely to measure this, because it is the part of the problem your own nose can never report.
Tip: Ask someone to walk into your cabin twenty minutes after you leave and tell you honestly what they notice. It is the only reliable instrument available.
SOSA Nawaab attar
Nawaab is here to be ruled out — its own page calls it a presence scent rather than a daytime office attar. Evenings and weddings, not a sealed cabin.
See Nawaab →
The SOSA principle
A large ventilated hall forgives an over-application by removing most of it. A sealed cabin forgives nothing, because nothing leaves.
Which is why the same dab that is unremarkable in an open office is a decision with consequences in a closed one. The room is the variable; the bottle rarely is.
SOSA Adaa attar
The sealed-cabin attar: Adaa, ₹379 for 3ml — the lightest register in the SOSA range, and the only one this page recommends for a room whose air is never replaced.

Projection measured properly: as a radius, not as a strength

Five distances from your own wrist, and an honest verdict at each. This is the table the rest of this series refers back to when it says a room decides the dose.

The SOSA plan
Five radii in a closed room, and only the first one is legitimate
The Projection Radius Who Is Standing at That Distance The Verdict in a Sealed Cabin
AdaaZero to arm's length — across a desk
The person you are actually meeting, seated, leaning over papers with you Yes, faintly. This is the only radius a working fragrance is aimed at
Arm's length to the far wall
A junior waiting, somebody who has just sat down on the other side of the room No. If it carries this far in a cabin with no air exchange, the dose was set too high
The doorway, without entering
Someone putting their head in for thirty seconds and leaving again No. At this distance a fragrance has stopped being yours and started being the room's
The corridor outside
People who never came into your room at all and did not choose any of this Never. Reaching a corridor from a closed cabin is spray behaviour, not skin-scent behaviour
TitanThe empty room, twenty minutes after you leave
Nobody — which is exactly what makes this the useful test Nothing should be detectable. If it is, the room has been storing and re-serving it all day

The consequence of all this across a full working day is set out in back-to-back client meetings in one room, and what the room keeps. If your day ends somewhere else entirely, planning a court-to-dinner day around a single morning application deals with the part you cannot undo. The clothes you are sitting in inside that cabin have their own argument at what wool and a black coat do to a fragrance, and if you would rather choose a register before worrying about the dose, woody, musk, fresh or amber for professional wear is the reference page for this family.

Give us the room and we will give you the dose
Tell us roughly how large your cabin is, whether the door stays shut and whether there is a window that opens, and we will answer on the room rather than on the bottle.

A split unit moves heat out of a room. It does not move air out of a room. Everything you wear into a sealed cabin is still in there at six o'clock.

The SOSA range measured against a sealed room

Four attars and two well-stocked tins, ordered here by how far each is built to travel. Start at 3ml: a sealed cabin is a demanding test and it is cheaper to fail it with a small bottle. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

The SOSA specification for an air-conditioned chamber
Ordered by projection radius, from the shortest to the longest
Product How Far It Is Built to Travel Whether It Belongs in a Sealed Cabin Price
Adaa The shortest radius in the range — its own page says it reads on you rather than across the room Yes. One dab, inner wrist, applied at home, not repeated ₹379 · ₹1,149
View →
Titan A fingertip dose, so the radius is set by how much you lift In the bag rather than on you during the day — it is the evening decision ₹500
View →
Beast The same mechanical control as Titan in a fuller character Also a bag item; the argument for it is portability, not projection ₹549
View →
Ameeri Carries noticeably further than Adaa — rose, sandalwood, saffron, soft oudh No. Warmth and reach belong to an evening, not to a room with no exit ₹385 · ₹1,165
View →
Nawaab The longest reach here; its own page calls it a presence scent Never in a sealed cabin. Weddings and evenings only ₹399 · ₹1,199
View →
Sizes: 3ml is the honest starting size, and it is the right one for testing a register against your own room before committing; the 12ml works out to roughly half the per-ml cost of the 3ml and is a decision for later. No health, mood, wellbeing or skin-safety claim is made anywhere on this page — alcohol-free, DPG-free and IFRA-compliant is the complete factual claim, and nothing in the range is described as hypoallergenic or as safe for sensitive skin. Nothing here claims that wearing a fragrance changes how anyone responds to you or has any bearing on a matter, a negotiation or an instruction. Describe your cabin to us and we will answer honestly, including when the answer is a single 3ml bottle used sparingly.

A note from Sonal

This is the page I would send to almost anyone who works indoors, whatever they do for a living, because the mistake it describes is not about fragrance at all. It is about assuming a room behaves like the outdoors, only smaller. It does not. A cooled room with the door shut is a closed loop, and a closed loop keeps everything it is given.

I learned to ask about the room before anything else because the same bottle produces two completely different experiences in a ventilated hall and in a four-by-three cabin, and people blame the bottle. They change fragrances three times and the problem follows them, because the problem was never in the bottle — it was in the number of cubic metres and in how often the door opened.

So the recommendation here is the smallest one in this series: Adaa at ₹379 for 3ml, one dab, applied at home, judged outside the cold room rather than inside it. And once a month, ask somebody to walk into your cabin after you have gone and tell you the truth. Nobody can promise that a fragrance changes how you are perceived, trusted or treated, and this guide does not try to. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

How much projection is appropriate if I sit in an AC chamber all day?
Perceptible at arm's length and not beyond it. Someone across the desk may faintly notice it; someone at the door should not; the corridor certainly should not; and twenty minutes after you leave, the empty room should not tell anyone that you wore anything. That last test is the one worth running, because it measures what your own nose cannot.
Doesn't the air conditioning clear the room between visitors?
No, and this is the most common misunderstanding about these rooms. A split unit moves heat out of a room through refrigerant pipes; it does not move air out. It draws room air over a cold coil and blows the same air back. Unless there is a duct bringing outside air in, the only real exchange happens when the door opens.
Why does my fragrance seem so faint in the office and strong when I step outside?
Cold, dry air slows how quickly an oil releases from skin, so in a cooled room it reads quieter than it is. Step into a warm corridor or outdoors and your skin warms, the release rate rises, and the application asserts itself at the level you actually applied. The room was muting it, not reducing it.
Is it worth using a heavier fragrance to compensate for the cold air?
That is the exact trap. You would be choosing a dose for a cold room and wearing it everywhere else — in the lift, in a car, on a street, in front of people who never saw the chamber. Keep the dose small and let the warm parts of the day be the moments it is most noticeable, rather than the moments it becomes a problem.
Which SOSA attar is wrong for a sealed cabin?
Nawaab, without hesitation — its own product page describes it as a presence scent rather than a daytime office attar, and a presence scent in a room with no air exchange is simply too much for everyone else in it. Ameeri carries further than Adaa too and belongs to evenings. For the cabin itself, Adaa at ₹379 for 3ml is the only recommendation this page makes.
SOSA Titan solid body perfume
For the corridor on the way out: A Titan tin at ₹500 — 15g, alcohol-free, applied by fingertip. It lets the chamber's dose stay exactly as you set it all day, and puts the evening's decision somewhere your own nose is working again.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the wear advice applies to any brand.

Facts verified 20 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA attars are concentrated oil attars supplied with a built-in dab applicator, not a rollerball, carried on sandalwood oil and jojoba with no DPG dilutent and no alcohol, IFRA-compliant, hand-blended in Pune in small batches, and available in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml - Adaa ₹379 / ₹669 / ₹1,149, Ameeri ₹385 / ₹679 / ₹1,165, Mastani ₹389 / ₹685 / ₹1,179 and Nawaab ₹399 / ₹699 / ₹1,199, with the three-attar set from ₹1,055. All four are stated to wear 6-8 hours on skin, longer on warm or oily skin; no other wear figure is claimed here. The SOSA solid body perfumes are long-lasting alcohol-free 15g tins applied by fingertip - Beast ₹549 and Titan ₹500 are the deeply stocked tins and are the ones led on here.

What this guide does not claim. No health, therapeutic, wellbeing, mood, stress, focus or confidence claim is made or implied anywhere, and no SOSA product is described as hypoallergenic, non-toxic or safe for sensitive skin - "alcohol-free, DPG-free and IFRA-compliant" is the complete factual claim. Nothing here claims that wearing a fragrance changes how anyone is perceived, trusted, remembered or treated, or that it affects a meeting, a sale, an interview or a professional relationship: nobody can promise that, and this guide does not try to. Fragrance sensitivity is real and a professional cannot know in advance which of the people they will stand close to today is affected by it.

Workplace policy. Where a hospital, clinic, laboratory, employer or client site operates a fragrance-free or restricted-fragrance policy, that policy decides, and nothing in this guide overrides it or is offered as an opinion on what is acceptable in a clinical, procedure, sterile or treatment area. Those judgements belong to the practitioner and the institution. This guide is about what a working adult chooses to wear on their own skin outside those constraints.
