This is the sentence I get most often in this family, and it is not a contradiction: I love musk and I cannot bear baby powder. Both of those smells are called musk on a note list. That is the whole problem, and it is a problem of vocabulary rather than of taste.
Quick answers — read this first
Are there really two different musks? More than two, but two that matter to you. One end of the musk family is dry, transparent and skin-like - it reads almost like warm skin with nothing on it, and it is what people mean when they say a musk smells like nothing and everything. The other end is creamy, rounded and faintly sweet, and that is the one that lands as talcum powder or the top of a baby's head. Both get printed as musk, or white musk, on a note list, so the word on the box cannot tell you which you are buying.

Which SOSA attar has the musk I want? Only one, and this is worth knowing before you shop. SOSA makes exactly four attars and Adaa is the only one with a musk in its published note list - Ameeri, Mastani and Nawaab do not list one at all. So if musk is the note you love, three of our four have nothing to offer you, and the Pack of 3 at ₹1,055 is precisely those three, with no Adaa in it. There is also no single-note musk attar at SOSA, so nothing here is a musk on its own.

So what do I buy, and what does it cost? SOSA Adaa, the 3ml, at ₹379. Its base is a white musk worn at the dry end, with bergamot and green cardamom over it and neroli and jasmine sambac in the heart. Alcohol-free, no DPG, and it wears 6-8 hours, which is the only longevity figure SOSA publishes. Buy the 3ml first: SOSA sells no attar sampler, the 3ml is the sample size, and a musk in particular has to be judged on skin over a full day rather than on paper. The 6ml is ₹669 and the 12ml ₹1,149.
The short answer
Short answer: musk is a category rather than a single material, and the two ends of it smell very different. One end is dry, transparent and skin-like. The other is creamy and faintly sweet, and that is the baby-powder reading you cannot wear. Both are printed as white musk. SOSA Adaa sits at the dry end - ₹379 for the 3ml, and it is the only one of SOSA's four attars with a musk in its published notes, which also rules out the Pack of 3.
The pick: the 3ml of SOSA Adaa at ₹379 - bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and a white musk base worn dry, alcohol-free, and it wears 6-8 hours. There is no single-note musk attar at SOSA, and the other three attars - Ameeri, Mastani and Nawaab - do not list a musk at all.
Next step: tell me the one musk perfume you have loved and the one that went to baby powder on you, and I will tell you what was sitting above each of them, because that is usually the difference rather than the musk itself - Ask for an attar recommendation.
I like musk, I hate baby powder - the answer in five linesAdaa 3ml, ₹379 - the dry, skin-like end of muskMusk is a family: dry at one end, creamy at the otherBoth ends get printed as 'white musk' on a boxOnly 1 of our 4 attars lists a musk at all - AdaaNo single-note musk attar here, and none coming
The third line is the reason you keep getting caught. The fourth is the reason the Pack of 3 at ₹1,055 is the wrong purchase for you: it is the three attars with no musk in them.
SOSA Adaa - the only SOSA attar with a musk in its published notes
Straight answer
Which attar suits somebody who likes musk but cannot wear baby-powder smells?
SOSA Adaa, the 3ml, at ₹379 - and the reason you have been caught out repeatedly is that the word on the box is the same for both things you are describing. Musk is not a material. It is a category, and a wide one. At one end of it the materials are dry, thin and skin-like: they read almost like warm skin with nothing on it, they hold a composition together without adding a flavour of their own, and they are the reason people say a musk smells like nothing and like everything at once. At the other end the materials are rounder, creamier and faintly sweet, and that end is where talcum powder lives - the smell of a tin, a nursery, the top of a baby's head. Those two ends can be forty materials apart in a perfumer's cupboard and they will both be printed on a box as musk, or as white musk, which is why you cannot shop this by reading the word. You have to shop it by what the musk is standing under, and by wearing it. Now the SOSA position, and there is a genuinely useful fact in it. SOSA makes exactly four attars - Adaa, Ameeri, Mastani and Nawaab - and Adaa is the only one of the four with a musk in its published note list at all. Ameeri is Taif rose, Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron and soft oudh. Mastani is night-blooming jasmine, Damask rose, Mysore sandalwood, oudh, vanilla and tonka. Nawaab is white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron, aged tobacco, leather and amber. Not a musk among them, which means that for a musk-lover three of our four bottles are simply not the thing you came for, and the Pack of 3 at ₹1,055 is exactly those three with no Adaa in it. I should also say that SOSA sells no single-note musk attar and no single-note sandalwood or rose attar either, so if what you want is a musk on its own, we do not make one. What we do make is Adaa: bergamot and green cardamom on top, neroli and jasmine sambac in the heart, white musk in the base, worn at the dry end because bright citrus and a green spice sit over it rather than a cream or a sugar. It is alcohol-free, carries no DPG, sits on a skin-safe jojoba and sandalwood base and wears 6-8 hours, the only longevity figure SOSA publishes. Buy the 3ml at ₹379, since SOSA sells no sampler and the 3ml is the sample size; the 6ml is ₹669, the 12ml ₹1,149. Two disclosures: Adaa carries jasmine sambac in a supporting role, which you should know because a floral is one of the two things that can soften a musk. And this is about preference only: SOSA publishes no outcome claim for a fragrance, because there is no honest way to measure one, and makes no health or skin-safety claim of any kind. Ask for an attar recommendation and name the two musks you have worn.
Musk is a family, not a material: dry and skin-like at one end, creamy and talc-like at the other, and both get printed as white musk. Adaa is the dry end at ₹379 for 3ml, and it is the only one of our four attars with a musk in its notes - which makes the Pack of 3 the wrong purchase for you.
The bottle is one SOSA Adaa - white musk in the base worn at its dry end, with bergamot and green cardamom above it and neroli and jasmine sambac in the heart. The only one of our four attars that lists a musk. Alcohol-free, wears 6-8 hours. ₹379 for the 3ml.

The only SOSA attar with a musk in its published notes
SOSA Adaa
3ml, 6ml and 12ml at ₹379, ₹669 and ₹1,149. Published notes: bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk. An alcohol-free perfume oil with no DPG carriers on a skin-safe jojoba and sandalwood base, composed by an ISIPCA Versailles-trained perfumer and hand-blended in Pune. It wears 6-8 hours, which is the only longevity figure SOSA publishes. The lightest of the four attars. No oud, no vanilla, no rose - and no other SOSA attar lists a musk at all.

The two ends of the musk family, and how to place a bottle on that line

Three steps. The first is the vocabulary, the second is the test that actually settles it, and the third is our own range laid out honestly.

1
Place the two ends in your head
Bare skin at one end, a talcum tin at the other, and one word for both
Give the two ends names of your own and you will stop being ambushed. At the dry end, a musk is thin, transparent and warm, adds almost no flavour and mostly makes everything above it last a little longer: the effect is skin rather than perfume. At the creamy end, a musk is rounded, slightly sweet, soft-edged, and it reads immediately as powder or talc. Nothing about the printed note list distinguishes them. So when you say you love musk and hate baby powder, you are describing the two ends of the same shelf, and you are right about both of them. It is the shelf that is badly labelled.
Tip: If you have loved one musk perfume and hated another, look up both note lists and compare what sat above the musk. That is usually the difference.

2
Test it on skin, over a day
A musk on paper tells you almost nothing, because a musk is the last thing to speak
Musks are among the slowest materials in perfumery, which is why they are put in the base. On a paper strip in a shop you get the citrus, maybe the flowers, and then you leave. The musk is still arriving four hours later, on skin, at home. This is the mechanical reason people buy powder by accident: they judged the composition before its base had a chance to say anything. So test an attar the only way that works - one roll on one wrist in the morning, then check it at lunch, at six, and before bed. Our published figure is 6-8 hours, so that is the window in which you will meet the base.
Tip: Judge the last two hours rather than the first ten minutes. That is where a musk decides which end it is on.

3
Then read our four in full
One of the four has a musk, and three of them have none at all
This is the bit nobody tells musk-lovers, so here it is in public. Adaa: bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac, white musk. Ameeri: Taif rose, Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron, soft oudh. Mastani: night-blooming jasmine, Damask rose, Mysore sandalwood, oudh, vanilla, tonka. Nawaab: white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron, aged tobacco, leather, amber. Only Adaa lists a musk, which makes your shortlist one bottle long, and it makes the Pack of 3 at ₹1,055 the wrong purchase twice over, since it is the other three and excludes Adaa. And SOSA sells no single-note musk attar, so there is no way to buy the musk on its own here.

The SOSA principle
Musk is a category rather than a material, and its two ends read as bare skin at one and a talcum tin at the other.
A note list prints the same word for both, which is why a musk is the one note you can only judge on skin and only after several hours.
SOSA Adaa
The dry end of the family: SOSA Adaa's base is a white musk worn dry, with bergamot and green cardamom sitting over it rather than a cream or a sugar. ₹379 for the 3ml.

Testing a musk properly

The table is the shortcut version: what you said, what it usually means about the musk, and what to do next.

The SOSA shortlist
How a musk complaint translates, and where it lands in the SOSA range
What you told me What to do
SOSA AdaaI love musk but hate baby powder
You love the dry end and hate the creamy end. Adaa's base is the dry one, held there by bergamot and green cardamom above it, and it is the only SOSA attar that lists a musk.
It smelled like skin, then like talc
You met the base. The musk was always going to arrive last, and on paper in a shop it never got the chance to. Test on skin over a full day, not on a strip.
I want just a musk, nothing else
SOSA does not make one. There is no single-note musk attar, no single-note sandalwood and no single-note rose in the range, so nothing here is a musk on its own.
SOSA SamundarI want a musk with no flower in it
Adaa carries neroli and jasmine sambac, so on a strict reading it is out. The nearest thing without a floral is Samundar, an aquatic marine on the perfume line, by accord only.
Which of the four should a musk-lover skip?
All three of the others. Ameeri, Mastani and Nawaab list no musk at all, and the Pack of 3 at ₹1,055 is exactly those three with Adaa left out.
How long before I know?
The attars are published at 6-8 hours, so a full day of wear covers it. Nothing is published for the perfume line or the solids, so no figure is given for them here.

The page that explains why the same musk can go either way is can white musk smell clean without smelling like talcum powder, and it is worth reading straight after this one because it is about the materials sitting on top rather than the musk itself. If your objection is broader than musk - the whole soft, dusty finish rather than this one note - start at I hate powdery perfumes, which attar should I buy, which names iris and heliotrope as the other two usual causes. SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house and every attar named here is its own composition.

SOSA Adaa
Three of our four have no musk at all: Ameeri, Mastani and Nawaab do not list one, so the Pack of 3 at ₹1,055 is the three attars a musk-lover has least use for - and it excludes Adaa.
One bottle, one size, one pulse point
SOSA Adaa is ₹379 for 3ml - and it is the only one of our four attars with a musk in it.

A note from Sonal

I have had this letter in almost the same words a hundred times. Somebody tells me they love musk, and then apologises for adding that they cannot go near baby powder, as though the two halves of the sentence cancelled each other out. They do not. You are describing two different smells that the industry has agreed to call by one name, and the confusion is ours rather than yours.

In a perfumer's cupboard, musk is a whole drawer. Some of those materials are thin and dry and read like warm skin with nothing on it; their job is to hold a composition together and stretch it out, and they contribute almost no flavour of their own. Others are rounded and soft-edged and slightly sweet, and those land unmistakably as talc. Both get written on a box as white musk. And because every one of them is slow, you will not meet any of them on a paper strip in a shop - you meet them four hours later, at home, having already paid.

So the bottle is Adaa at ₹379 for 3ml, where the musk is held at the dry end by the bergamot and green cardamom standing over it - and it is the only one of our four attars with a musk in it at all, which is why Ameeri, Mastani, Nawaab and the Pack of 3 are all off your list. Buy the 3ml, wear it a whole day, and judge the last two hours. We sell no sampler, so that small bottle is the only honest way to test a base. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

I like musk but hate baby-powder smells - which attar should I try?
SOSA Adaa, at Rs 379 for the 3ml. Musk is a category rather than one material: the dry end reads thin and skin-like, the creamy end reads like talcum powder, and both are printed as white musk on a box. Adaa's base is worn at the dry end, with bergamot and green cardamom above it. It is also the only one of SOSA's four attars with a musk in its published notes. The jasmine sambac in its heart is disclosed.
Why do some white musks smell like talcum powder and others do not?
Because white musk is a label for a whole family of materials, not a single one. At one end they are thin, transparent and skin-like and add almost no flavour of their own. At the other they are rounded and faintly sweet, which reads immediately as talc. The note list uses the same two words for both. That is why a musk can only be judged on skin, several hours in, rather than from a strip in a shop.
Which SOSA attars contain musk?
Only Adaa. SOSA makes exactly four attars, and Ameeri, Mastani and Nawaab do not list a musk at all: Ameeri is Taif rose, Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron and soft oudh, Mastani is jasmine, rose, Mysore sandalwood, oudh, vanilla and tonka, and Nawaab is oud, sandalwood, saffron, tobacco, leather and amber. So for a musk-lover the shortlist is one bottle, and the Pack of 3 at Rs 1,055 is the other three with Adaa excluded.
Does SOSA sell a single-note musk attar?
No. There is no single-note musk attar at SOSA, and no single-note sandalwood or single-note rose attar either. Every attar in the range is a composition. If what you want is a musk on its own with nothing above it, SOSA does not make that, and I would rather tell you than sell you something adjacent. The nearest thing in the range is Adaa, where the musk is the base under a bergamot and green cardamom opening.
How should I test whether a musk goes powdery on me?
One roll on one wrist in the morning, then check it at lunch, in the evening, and before bed. Musks are slow materials and they sit in the base, so they are the last part of a composition to speak. The published wear figure for the SOSA attars is 6-8 hours, which is the window you are testing. Buy the 3ml at Rs 379 to do it, because SOSA sells no sampler and the 3ml is the sample size.
SOSA Adaa
And the honest gap: SOSA sells no single-note musk attar, no single-note sandalwood and no single-note rose. If you wanted a musk on its own, we do not make one.

SOSA Adaa is ₹379, ₹669 and ₹1,149, with published notes of bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk. SOSA Nawaab is ₹399, ₹699 and ₹1,199, with published notes of white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron, aged tobacco, leather and amber. All four are alcohol-free perfume oils with no DPG carriers, on a skin-safe jojoba and sandalwood base, composed by an ISIPCA Versailles-trained perfumer and hand-blended in Pune, and the only longevity figure SOSA publishes for them is that they wear 6-8 hours. The Pack of 3 (₹1,055, ₹1,859 and ₹3,189) is Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani, and it does not include Adaa. The SOSA perfume line - including Khayaal and Samundar - comes in 10ml, 50ml and 100ml and is referred to on these pages by its SOSA name and its accord only. SOSA publishes no note list and no longevity figure for the solid body perfumes or for the perfume line, so neither is given here, and how a solid body perfume smells is never described. SOSA sells no attar sampler and no discovery set, which is why the 3ml is the sample size and is what these pages recommend buying first. Free shipping above ₹499 is the only logistics fact stated on these pages. Choosing a fragrance is a matter of preference: SOSA makes no health, skin-safety, hypoallergenic, therapeutic or wellbeing claim for any fragrance, makes no claim about compliments, confidence or any other outcome of wearing one, and offers nothing here as medical advice - a reaction on skin is a conversation for a doctor rather than for a perfumer.
