You have described two things precisely, and the precision is what makes this answerable. You like a rose read on its fresh side - dewy, soft, clean underneath - and you have met the other kind of rose, the dense traditional one that sits on wood and resin and keeps getting warmer for hours, and it is not for you. That is a real distinction and not a matter of taste alone: the two are built differently and you can see it in a note list. So here is the honest shape of my answer. SOSA has two roses and neither of them is a fresh rose-musk, because both sit on wood with oudh underneath. One of the two is much closer to what you want than the other, and I will tell you which and exactly where it will still differ from what you are used to.
Quick answers — read this first
Does SOSA make a fresh rose-musk attar? No. A fresh rose-musk means a dewy, green-edged rose over a clean white musk with nothing resinous beneath it, and neither of the two SOSA roses is built that way. Ameeri sits on Indian sandalwood with Persian saffron and a soft oudh; Mastani sits on oudh with night-blooming jasmine beside the Damask rose. White musk exists in the range, in Adaa and in Nawaab, but never under a rose.

Which SOSA attar is closest to a soft, fresh rose? Ameeri, at ₹385 for the 3ml, and the word closest is doing real work in that sentence. Its sandalwood is creamy rather than smoky, its saffron is dry rather than sweet and its oudh is deliberately quiet, so the rose stays clearly readable instead of being buried. What it is not is fresh: it is a warm rose and it stays warm through the whole wear, which is the one thing you said you wanted to avoid.

Why do so many rose attars smell heavy? Because the format favours weight. An attar is concentrated oil with no alcohol, dabbed and warmed by skin, and the dewy green facets of a rose are the lightest and briefest part of the material. A composition built to show a rose off in oil therefore tends to use the denser reading of the flower and to put a wood or a resin underneath it. That is the tradition playing to its strengths, and it is why a fresh-rose wearer meets the heavy version so often.
The short answer
Short answer: SOSA does not make a fresh rose-musk. A fresh rose-musk means a dewy, green-edged rose over a clean white musk with nothing resinous below it. Both SOSA roses sit on wood: Ameeri on Indian sandalwood with saffron and a soft oudh, Mastani on oudh with night-blooming jasmine. Ameeri is the closer of the two.
The pick: Ameeri 3ml at ₹385, with the caveat stated plainly: it is a warm rose, not a fresh one. The sandalwood is creamy rather than dark and the oudh is deliberately held back, which makes it the most polished rose we make - but the base is wood, not musk. If a clean musk base is non-negotiable, the honest answer is that we do not make your fragrance and you should keep the one you have.
Honest note: an attar is bought unsmelled, so a list of notes is all you have. A note list describes an intention, not a smell, and nothing written here is a substitute for wearing it.
Four attars - lightest opening to deepest baseAdaa · Mastani · Ameeri · Nawaab3ml from ₹379  |  6ml from ₹669  |  12ml from ₹1,149Dab on pulse points - oil wants warmth, not rubbing6-8 hours on skin · alcohol-free · DPG-free carrier
There are four SOSA attars and they run from a bergamot-and-cardamom opening at the lightest end to white royal oud at the deepest. Adaa is the freshest, Mastani the most floral, Ameeri the warmest, Nawaab the deepest. All four are alcohol-free on a jojoba carrier with no DPG, come with a dab applicator, and wear 6-8 hours on skin - longer on warm or oily skin. Sizes are 3ml, 6ml and 12ml, from Rs 379. None of that tells you whether you will like the smell, which is why the smallest size exists.
Straight answer
I like fresh, soft rose fragrances and dislike heavy rose attars. Which SOSA attar is closest?
Ameeri, and only as a qualified yes. We do not make a fresh rose-musk and I will not pretend that we do.

Three roses, and your brief is the first one. Rose is the most re-interpretable material in perfumery and a note list that says rose has told you almost nothing. There is the fresh rose: dewy, slightly green, with a lemony or geranium-like lift at the edges, usually sitting on a clean musk so that the whole thing reads laundered and soft. There is the powdery rose, where iris, violet or heliotrope sits alongside and the fragrance reads cosmetic, soft-focus, a little retro. And there is the jammy rose: dense, honeyed, almost wine-like, usually over amber, sandalwood or oud, which is the version that gets deeper and warmer the longer you wear it. The three read completely differently and the page on telling them apart is here.

Why traditional rose attars so often land on the third. It is a matter of what the format is good at. An attar is concentrated oil with no alcohol in it, applied as a dab and warmed by skin, and that favours materials with weight: woods, resins, the deeper floral absolutes. The dewy, green, lifted facets of a rose are the lightest part of the material and the first to pass. So a composition built to show its rose off in an oil tends to use the denser reading and to put something substantial underneath it. That is not a failure of the category - it is the category playing to its strengths - but it does mean a reader who loves a fresh rose will meet the heavy one over and over again while shopping.

What SOSA actually has, and where it falls short of your brief. Two roses, and both of them sit on wood. Ameeri is Taif rose with Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron and a soft oudh, 3ml ₹385. This is the closer of the two by some distance: the sandalwood is creamy rather than smoky, the saffron is dry rather than sweet, and the oudh is deliberately kept quiet, so the rose stays legible instead of being swallowed. It is the most polished rose in the range. It is also warm, and it will keep being warm at hour four, which is exactly the quality you said you did not want. Mastani is night-blooming jasmine, Damask rose and oudh, 3ml ₹389, and it is the deeper and more floral of the pair - a night-time fragrance with the oudh clearly present. On your brief, that is the one to avoid.

And the thing you actually asked for, said plainly. A rose over clean white musk with nothing resinous underneath is not a composition SOSA makes. White musk is in the range - it is the base of Adaa and part of the base of Nawaab - but in Adaa it sits under bergamot, green cardamom and jasmine sambac, and there is no rose in that bottle at all. Four compositions is the whole range and the rose-over-musk one is not among them. If that structure is the reason you love what you wear, keep wearing it. That is not me being modest; it is the correct advice.

So what is the 3ml for. It is for the version of you who is curious rather than committed. ₹385 buys a week of wearing Ameeri on your own skin, and there are two useful outcomes. Either the creamy sandalwood turns out to be a warmth you enjoy under a rose, in which case you have found something your shelf does not have and the 6ml at ₹679 is a reasonable next step. Or it confirms what you already suspected, in which case you have spent ₹385 to close the question for good instead of wondering every time an attar page loads. What you should not do is buy the 12ml at ₹1,165 on the strength of a note list, and the argument for starting small applies here more than almost anywhere.

One more honest detail about the format. An attar is undiluted oil on a jojoba carrier with no alcohol in it, and it is met at conversation distance rather than across a room. All four wear 6-8 hours on skin, longer on warm or oily skin, and that is the only wear figure we publish - no comparison with how long a spray lasts, because that is not a measurement anybody in this category has made. What the format does change is that you meet the base sooner, which is precisely why the base matters so much in this particular decision.
Fresh rose-musk means a dewy rose on clean musk with nothing resinous underneath, and we do not make it. Ameeri is the closer of our two roses - creamy sandalwood, soft oudh, 3ml ₹385 - and it is warm rather than fresh. Mastani is the deeper one and not your brief.
Start at 3ml. A 3ml costs ₹379 to ₹399 depending on the composition, holds the same liquid as the larger sizes, and is the only honest size for a fragrance you have never worn. Wear it for a week before you buy a size. Nothing on this page can tell you how it will smell on your skin, which is exactly why the smallest bottle exists.
3ml from ₹379

Reading a rose description before you buy it

Three checks, and the third is the one that decides whether a rose fragrance will feel fresh or heavy to you.

1
Which rose
Fresh, powdery and jammy are three different purchases
A fresh rose is dewy and slightly green, often with a lemony or geranium-like lift. A powdery rose has iris, violet or heliotrope beside it and reads cosmetic. A jammy rose is dense and honeyed and sits on amber, sandalwood or oud. The word rose in a note list does not distinguish between them, so look for the neighbours: a green note or a citrus means fresh, an iris means powder, an amber or an oud means jam.
Tip: Never buy on the word rose alone. Buy on what is standing next to it.
2
Two real roses
Taif rose and Damask rose are not the same reading
SOSA uses both, deliberately, in two different compositions. The Taif rose in Ameeri reads brighter and more transparent in its setting, helped by the dry saffron beside it. The Damask rose in Mastani reads deeper and more wine-like, helped along by night-blooming jasmine and oudh. Same flower family, two different jobs, and the difference between them is a more useful comparison than most of what gets written about rose.
Tip: If you want the rose legible, Ameeri. If you want it dramatic, Mastani.
3
The base
The base decides whether a rose feels fresh or heavy
This is the whole decision. A rose over clean musk stays light for as long as it lasts. A rose over sandalwood gets creamier. A rose over oud or amber gets warmer and denser as the hours pass, which is what people mean by a heavy rose attar. Both SOSA roses have wood underneath, so both get warmer rather than quieter. That is the honest limit of what I can offer a fresh-rose wearer.
Tip: Read the base before the heart. It is what you will be wearing at hour four.
The SOSA principle
A rose fragrance is decided by what is underneath the rose. Everything you liked and everything you did not is in the base, not the flower.
Read the last two notes in the list first.

The two SOSA roses, read against a fresh brief

Ameeri first, 3ml ₹385, 6ml ₹679, 12ml ₹1,165: Taif rose with Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron and a soft oudh. The rose is the subject, the sandalwood is the body, the saffron is the dry bridge between them and the oudh is the floor. Of everything in the range this is the rose that stays most clearly a rose, which is why it is the closer answer. Mastani second, 3ml ₹389: night-blooming jasmine, Damask rose and oudh, where two florals share the stage and the oudh is more present. It is the more dramatic and the less fresh of the two.

The SOSA attar range
Your brief against the four
Option When it is the right call
Ameeri 3ml, ₹385 The closest we have · Taif rose, creamy sandalwood, dry saffron, soft oudh
Trade-off: A warm rose, and still warm at hour four
Adaa 3ml, ₹379 The clean one · the only composition that ends on white musk alone
Trade-off: No rose in it at all, so the flower you came for is missing
Mastani 3ml, ₹389 Damask rose with night-blooming jasmine and oudh · the dramatic one
Trade-off: The deeper of the two roses, which is the opposite of your brief
A rose over clean musk Not made here · four compositions, and this is not one of them
Trade-off: Keep the fragrance you own, which is doing the job properly

Adaa at ₹379 is the clean one - bergamot, green cardamom, jasmine sambac, white musk - and the only composition in the range that ends on musk alone. If what you actually want is the laundered, soft, close-wearing quality rather than the rose specifically, that is the bottle to read, and the page on what clean really means in a description will tell you quickly whether that is your brief. If you want rose and clean musk together in one composition, we do not make it.

Not sure which of the four is yours?
Tell us the three fragrances you wear most and the notes you cannot stand. If none of our four fits what you describe, we will say so rather than sell you a bottle you will not wear.
Ask first
Both of my roses sit on wood with oudh underneath. Neither is a fresh rose-musk, and if that is what you want, the bottle you already own is doing the job better than anything I can sell you.

The SOSA attar range

Every SOSA attar is alcohol-free and IFRA-compliant on a jojoba carrier with no DPG, hand-blended in small batches in Pune. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. There are four, and the honest way to read them is by depth - how much the base note is doing.

The SOSA attar range
Four attars, lightest to deepest - 3ml from ₹379
Attar Built on What it is, honestly 3ml
Adaa Bergamot, green cardamom, jasmine sambac, white musk The lightest of the four and the easiest first attar. Jasmine sambac is mogra, so this is also the mogra answer ₹379
Ameeri Taif rose, Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron, soft oudh The warm one. Rose and sandalwood doing most of the work, with the oudh kept soft ₹385
Mastani Night-blooming jasmine, Damask rose, oudh The most floral. A different jasmine and a different rose from Adaa and Ameeri ₹389
Nawaab White royal oud, sandalwood, saffron, tobacco leaf, amber, leather The deepest in the range. Not a first attar unless you already know you like oud ₹399
The trio Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani together Three of the four at once. The honest answer when you cannot choose and will not guess ₹1,055

Four honest notes. A note list is not a smell. Every composition above is described in the words we would use ourselves, and those words still cannot tell you how it will sit on your skin - which is the whole reason the 3ml exists. On the sizes: 3ml, 6ml and 12ml are the same liquid, and the only reason to buy the larger ones is that you already know. If you have not worn it, buy the smallest and let it earn the upgrade. On wear: all four are 6-8 hours on skin, longer on warm or oily skin, and that is the only figure we publish. We do not publish a drop count, a per-application cost, or a comparison with how long anybody else's fragrance lasts - including sprays. On what we do not make: there is no standalone musk, sandalwood, amber, tuberose, vetiver, khus, aquatic or tobacco attar in this range. Four compositions is the whole range, and where your answer is not one of them, this page will say so rather than talk you into the nearest thing.

A note from Sonal

Attars are the part of this business where the marketing is worst, and I would like ours to be the boring, accurate version. Most of the category sells a bottle on adjectives - royal, exotic, hypnotic, long-lasting - and on numbers nobody has measured. You cannot smell any of it before you pay, so the words are doing all the work, and almost nobody writes them honestly.

So here is what I will and will not tell you. I will tell you what is in each of the four, in the order you meet it, and that they wear 6-8 hours on my skin. I will not tell you that one of them smells expensive, or that it will turn heads, or that it lasts twelve hours, because I cannot know the first two about you and have not measured the third. The honest sequence is: read the notes, buy the 3ml, wear it for a week, and only then buy a size. If none of our four matches what you have described to yourself, I would rather say so than sell you the nearest one.

The other thing worth knowing is how little you need. An attar is concentrated oil, and the commonest mistake is wearing it like a spray - a long press at the neck and another at the wrists. One dab at a pulse point is the dose. Two if you want it read across a dinner table. Do not rub it in; oil opens with warmth, and rubbing crushes the top of it. That is the entire dial, and most people never need the top of it. A portion of every order supports girl-child education.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a light rose attar in the SOSA range?
Ameeri is the lightest-handled rose we make, Rs 385 for the 3ml, but light is not the same as fresh. Its Taif rose stays clearly readable because the sandalwood is creamy, the saffron is dry and the oudh is kept soft - and the whole composition is still a warm one. A fresh rose-musk, meaning rose over clean musk with nothing resinous underneath, is not something we make.
What is the difference between Ameeri and Mastani?
The rose and what surrounds it. Ameeri is Taif rose with Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron and a soft oudh, so the rose is the subject and the wood is the body. Mastani is night-blooming jasmine, Damask rose and oudh, so two florals share the stage over a more present wood. Ameeri reads warm and polished, Mastani reads deeper and more nocturnal. On a fresh-rose brief, Ameeri is the closer of the two.
Should I buy the 3ml or the 12ml of Ameeri?
The 3ml, at Rs 385. This is a page where you have told me the composition sits slightly off what you like, so the purchase is an experiment rather than a decision, and the smallest size is what experiments are for. The 12ml is Rs 1,165 and the same liquid; it is the right purchase only once a week on your own skin has answered the question for you.
Will an attar rose smell stronger than my rose spray?
It will smell different in shape, and I am not going to put a number on either. An attar is undiluted oil dabbed on a pulse point, so it sits close to you and you meet the base sooner. All four SOSA attars are published at 6-8 hours on skin, longer on warm or oily skin, and we publish no comparison with how long any spray lasts because no standardised test exists for it.
What if I want the clean musk without the rose?
Then read Adaa, Rs 379 for the 3ml, which is bergamot and green cardamom over jasmine sambac with white musk at the base - the only one of the four that finishes on musk alone. It is not a musk attar, because the musk is its drydown rather than its subject, and if a standalone white musk is what you want, we do not make one of those either.

About this guide:

What this guide does not claim.
  • An attar is a fragrance and nothing else.
A note list is not a smell
  • - it names what a composition is built from and the order you meet it in, which is a description of an intention rather than a measurement, and it is
not a substitute for wearing it
  • . Nothing here should be read as advice about health, allergies or anyone's wellbeing, and no fragrance on this page is claimed to affect anybody's mood, comfort, confidence or state of mind. Where a reader describes a preference none of our four compositions matches, these guides say so and sell nothing.

SOSA attars, specified:

On wear.
  • SOSA publishes one figure:
6-8 hours on skin, longer on warm or oily skin
  • . SOSA does not publish a drop count, a cost per application, a projection rating, or any comparison with how long another format or another company's fragrance lasts. Where a customer review reports a different number, that is one person's experience of their own skin and not a measurement SOSA stands behind.

On what is in the bottle.
  • The composition lists above name the materials a fragrance is built from. They are not a statement of grade, percentage or geographic origin, and this guide makes no claim about either. Where origin or grade matters to you, ask before you buy - that is a fair question and the answer belongs to the product page rather than to an article.

On other companies.
  • Where another fragrance brand is named in these guides it is because a reader named it, and the page answers what they asked. Nothing here states what any other company's product contains, how long it lasts, what it costs or how it performs.
Other brands named are the property of their respective owners · SOSA is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or associated with any other fragrance company named on this page
