Laundry, mopping and showers are the three biggest sources
Indoor laundry is the single largest avoidable moisture source in an Indian home in the rains. One load drying on a rack puts about two litres of water into your air, and most families are drying two loads a day with the windows shut. Never dry it in a bedroom. Put it in the most ventilated space you have with a fan blowing across it, or shut it in one room with a dehumidifier running, which is what a dehumidifier is genuinely good at. Then look at mopping: a soaking mop twice a day on tile or marble is a lot of water evaporating into a closed flat, so wring it out properly, damp mop instead, and run fans until the floor is dry. Weekly: dry the things that hold it

Air dries in hours, material dries in days, and the material is what actually grows the smell. Once a week through the season, strip the beds and stand the mattresses on edge with a fan on them for a couple of hours, prop the sofa cushions up on their edges, unroll and air any rug that has been down all week, and open the shoe cabinet with a fan pointed at it.
