The request arrives with a floor plan attached, neatly coloured by section, and the assumption that the air will respect the colours. It will not. A customer walks a continuous route through one atmosphere, and no drawing has ever changed that.
Quick answers — read this first
Should each brand section have its own fragrance? No. Brand sections are a merchandising decision and they do not divide a body of air. A connected trading floor shares one atmosphere whatever the cases, the plinths and the section headers say, so two fragrances placed in it do not stay in their zones - they meet in the aisle between them at two different intensities. What a customer registers walking that aisle is a step change, and a step change reads as an inconsistency rather than as identity. One retailer profile at one level is the only coherent answer on a shared floor.

But the brands each have their own character? They do, and there are several honest ways to express it - none of them is the air. Lighting temperature, case density, the materials under and behind the pieces, seating, and what your team says in the first ten seconds are all attributable to a section and all controllable. Fragrance is not attributable, because it drifts. And there is a positioning point worth saying plainly: on your floor, the store is the host. The signature belongs to the retailer, and the brands you carry are guests in a room you have made coherent.

What does the hardware look like? One machine for a connected floor. A single SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 is rated to 1000m³, which is about 3,500 sq ft at an ordinary 10 ft ceiling, so most multi-section stores are still one machine. Past that, or where the store spans genuinely separate volumes, it is either one machine per volume or a SOSA Aangan at ₹25,999 into the air handling. Total hardware spend: ₹11,999 in most stores.
The short answer
Short answer: with one retailer profile at one level across the whole floor. Brand sections are merchandising and they do not divide a body of air, so per-section fragrances meet in the aisles and read as seams. Differentiate sections with lighting, materials, case density and seating instead. One SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 covers roughly 3,500 sq ft at a 10 ft ceiling.
The pick: one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) mounted on the main air path carrying one profile across every section, with a SOSA Aangan (₹25,999) into the air handling only where the floor genuinely exceeds a single machine's volume.
Next step: send the floor plan with the sections marked and the ceiling height noted, and we will tell you how many bodies of air you actually have rather than how many sections - Ask for a retail scenting plan.

Straight answer
How should a large watch store with several brand sections approach scenting?
With one profile at one level across the whole floor, and I will give you the physical reason rather than a preference. Brand sections are drawn on a plan, and air does not read plans. A connected trading floor - cases, plinths, section headers, aisles - is a single body of air, and anything released into it travels until something stops it. Nothing on a merchandising drawing stops it. So two fragrances on one floor do not sit politely in their zones; each produces a gradient, and the gradients meet somewhere in the aisle between the sections at two different intensities. A customer walking that aisle experiences a step change, registers it without being able to name it, and takes away an impression of inconsistency rather than of two identities. That is the whole argument and it holds at every size. There is a second argument, and in a multi-brand store it may matter more. On your floor, the store is the host. You chose the marble, the lighting temperature, the case spacing, the seating and what your team says in the first ten seconds; the air is the last element in that list and it belongs to the same author. Handing it to the brands you carry, section by section, means the one element that touches every part of the store at once is the only one that is not yours. A single retailer profile is what makes a multi-brand floor read as a business rather than as a set of concessions sharing a lease. What the sections should be differentiated by is everything a customer can actually attribute: lighting temperature, case density, materials, plinth height, seating and choreography. Those stay where you put them. Fragrance does not. On hardware, the arithmetic is straightforward and worth naming out loud. You scent volume, not floor area. A single SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 is rated to 1000m³, which at an ordinary 10 ft ceiling is roughly 3,500 sq ft; at 14 ft the same rating covers about 2,500 sq ft, so measure the ceiling before you assume anything. Most multi-section stores sit inside that, which means total hardware spend: ₹11,999, one machine - mounted well inside the entrance and on an air-conditioning supply path rather than standing in whichever section has a spare socket. Where a store genuinely exceeds one machine's volume, the honest options are one machine per genuinely separate volume - a different floor, its own AC zone, a room whose door is actually shut - or a SOSA Aangan at ₹25,999 into the air handling, which is the correct answer for a genuine flagship. In every case the profile stays the same; only the machine count follows the air. Whichever you buy, it is waterless, so it adds no moisture to the room and leaves no residue on surfaces - a fact about the machine, and what room conditions mean for any given piece is a question for the brands you carry and their watchmakers rather than for me. Set the level for the advisor who breathes it nine hours a day. This is a presentation decision like lighting or case layout; it is never a way to cover another smell. And plainly: no one can promise you that ambient scent moves footfall, dwell, conversion or spend, and any supplier quoting you a figure is selling. Ask for a retail scenting plan and send the plan with the sections and ceiling height marked.
Sections are merchandising and air is not, so a connected floor takes one retailer profile at one level. Per-section fragrances meet in the aisles as seams. One Vaayu at ₹11,999 covers about 3,500 sq ft at a 10 ft ceiling.
One SOSA Vaayu - rated to 1000m³, about 3,500 sq ft at a 10 ft ceiling, wall or HVAC mountable, waterless, under 38dB, app timers and key-lock. ₹11,999 for the whole floor, one profile across every section. Past a single machine's volume the answer is an Aangan at ₹25,999 into the air handling, not two fragrances.

Why per-section fragrance fails

Three reasons, and only the first is about physics. The other two are about who your store belongs to and what a customer can actually attribute.

1
Follow one customer, not the plan
A customer experiences a continuous walk; a plan view is something only you ever see
Stand at your entrance and walk the route a customer takes on an ordinary Saturday. You pass through one atmosphere that changes gradually or does not change at all. What you do not do is step between rooms. Per-section fragrance is designed for the plan view and experienced as a seam in an aisle, and the aisle is usually exactly where somebody is deciding whether to ask to see something. A gradient away from a single source reads as a room; a boundary between two sources reads as a mistake nobody can locate. That is the whole physical case and it does not soften at any size.
Tip: Walk the route yourself after being outside for twenty minutes. Your nose adapts, so the walk has to start from the street.

2
Decide who the host is
The signature belongs to the retailer; the brands you carry are guests on your floor
This is a positioning decision as much as a technical one, and it is worth making deliberately rather than by default. Everything else in your store expresses your judgement - the materials, the lighting temperature, the spacing, the seating, the first ten seconds of service. If the air is subcontracted section by section, the one element that touches the entire floor at once is the only one you did not author, and a multi-brand store starts to read as a set of concessions sharing a lease. One retailer profile is what makes a multi-brand floor read as a single business, which is the thing your name over the door is claiming.
Tip: Write the profile down and keep it, so it survives a section changing hands or a manager changing.

3
Differentiate with what stays put
Light, materials, density and seating are attributable; fragrance drifts
The instinct behind per-section scenting is sound - sections should feel distinct. The mistake is choosing the one medium that will not stay where it is put. Lighting temperature, plinth height, case density, the material behind and beneath the pieces, whether there is seating, and how your team introduces a section all remain exactly where you place them and are all attributable by a customer to the section they are standing in. Use those, and let the air belong to the store. You will get more differentiation from a warmer lamp over one bay than from any fragrance decision, and it will not meet anything in an aisle.

The SOSA principle
A brand section exists on a drawing and in a customer's mind, but never in the air - so the only thing per-section fragrances actually create is a boundary in an aisle that nobody meant to build.
One connected floor, one retailer profile, one level - and the sections differentiated by everything that stays where you put it.

How to differentiate sections properly

Here is the substitution, item by item: what people try to do with fragrance, and what actually does it.

The SOSA plan
Differentiating brand sections without dividing the air
What you want the section to feel What to do
Warmer, more traditional
A warmer lamp temperature, a deeper plinth material, lower case density, a chair. Not a warmer fragrance.
Cooler, more technical
Cooler light, steel and glass, tighter spacing, less soft material in the bay. Not a fresher fragrance.
More exclusive, more considered
Fewer pieces per case, more space around them, seating, and an advisor who slows down. Not a stronger fragrance.
SOSA VaayuCoherent across the whole floor
One retailer profile at one level from a single source on the main air path. This is the part fragrance does well.
SOSA AanganCoherent across a flagship floor plate
One profile into the air handling, so a floor larger than a single machine's volume still reads as one room.
What not to do
A fragrance per section. They meet in the aisle at two intensities and the meeting point is the only thing a customer notices.

The chain and buying-committee version of this question, including how a group with several stores writes it down, is in one retailer's signature scent or different fragrances for different brand sections. And if part of your store is genuinely a separate body of air rather than a separate section, the test for that is set out in when a large watch boutique needs multiple SOSA Vaayu zones. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel.

The SOSA specification for a large floor

One machine carries most multi-section stores and the second row is for a genuine flagship rather than a merely large one. Cold-air refill oil is not currently sold separately, so the Vaayu's 400ml runs 90+ days a fill and further supply should be confirmed with SOSA before a large store plans around it. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Count bodies of air rather than sections, keep one profile at one level, and differentiate the sections with light, materials, density and seating. Ambient scent here is a presentation decision like lighting or case layout; it is never a way to cover another smell, and a floor with a corridor, carpet or fit-out problem should have that fixed first. And to be plain: no one can promise you that ambient scent moves footfall, dwell, conversion or spend, and any supplier quoting you a figure is selling. Ask for a retail scenting plan before you spend anything.

A note from Sonal

This request usually arrives as a coloured floor plan, and the colours are the problem. Somebody has divided the store into sections on paper, the divisions are real for merchandising, and it feels natural to extend them to everything else. Lighting can be divided. Materials can be divided. Seating can be divided. Air cannot, and no amount of care in the drawing changes that. Two fragrances on one connected floor meet in an aisle at two intensities, and the meeting point becomes the only thing about your fragrance that anybody notices.

There is also a question about ownership that I think matters more than the physics. Everything in a multi-brand store that expresses judgement is yours - the marble, the light temperature, the case spacing, the chair, the first ten seconds of service. The air touches all of it at once. If you hand it out section by section, the single element that unifies your floor is the one element you did not author, and the store starts to read as several concessions under one roof rather than as your business. I would keep it. The brands you carry are extremely good at expressing themselves in the case; they do not need the room as well.

So the hardware is one Vaayu at ₹11,999 for a connected floor inside about 3,500 sq ft at a 10 ft ceiling, or a Aangan at ₹25,999 into the air handling for a genuine flagship - one profile in both cases. Stay dry rather than sweet, set the level for the advisor rather than yourself, and remember that fragrance is never a substitute for ventilation or cleaning and that nobody can honestly promise you it moves a business number. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

Should a large watch store give each brand section its own fragrance?
No. Brand sections are a merchandising decision and they do not divide a body of air. On a connected trading floor each source produces a gradient, and two gradients meet in the aisle between the sections at two different intensities, which a customer registers as a step change rather than as identity. One retailer profile at one level across the whole floor is the coherent answer, and the sections are better differentiated by lighting, materials, case density and seating.
How should brand sections be differentiated if not by scent?
By everything that stays where you put it. Lighting temperature, plinth height and material, case density, the surfaces behind and beneath the pieces, whether there is seating, and how your team introduces a section are all attributable by a customer to the bay they are standing in. Fragrance is the one medium that drifts, which is exactly why it is the wrong tool for a job that requires things to stay in place.
How many machines does a large multi-section store need?
Usually one. A SOSA Vaayu is rated to 1000 cubic metres, which at an ordinary 10 ft ceiling is roughly 3,500 sq ft and at 14 ft closer to 2,500 sq ft, so measure the ceiling before assuming. Total hardware spend in most multi-section stores is Rs 11,999. Past a single machine's volume the answer is one machine per genuinely separate body of air, or a SOSA Aangan at Rs 25,999 installed into the air handling.
Whose signature should a multi-brand store carry?
The retailer's. On your floor the store is the host and the brands you carry are guests in a room you have made coherent. Everything else that expresses judgement in the store is yours, and the air touches every part of the floor at once, so subcontracting it section by section leaves the one unifying element unauthored. Write the profile down so it survives a section changing hands or a manager changing.
Will a signature scent make a large multi-brand store feel more premium?
No one can promise what ambient scent does to a business number, and I will not offer you a figure. What one profile at one level does honestly is stop the air being the element nobody decided, so it agrees with the lighting, the materials, the service and the prices. That is worth having and it is a small effect. It cannot make an ordinary store feel luxurious, and several fragrances on one floor make a coherent store feel less so.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the planning advice applies to any brand.

Facts verified 5 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with adjustable intensity, a 400ml refillable tank lasting 90+ days a fill depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, operation under 38dB at 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification, which are electrical and compliance marks and not medical approvals. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or equipment. The SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is an ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering roughly 270-320 sq ft and is supplied with three 15ml fragrances; the water-based Hotel Collection (₹299 / ₹999 / ₹1,799) is an ultrasonic fragrance and is not a refill for a waterless cold-air machine. SOSA reed diffusers are alcohol-free and phthalate-free, with 50ml lasting about 6-8 weeks and 130ml about 14-18 weeks. Cold-air refill oil for the Vaayu is not currently sold separately - the machine ships with 400ml included and further refills should be confirmed with SOSA. Warranty, annual maintenance, installation and bulk terms are not published and should be confirmed before ordering. Ambient scent is an interior and hospitality decision: it makes no clinical, therapeutic or wellbeing claim, it works alongside proper ventilation, cleaning and infection control and is never a substitute for any of them, it is never used to mask another smell, and no claim is made that fragrance influences a patient's decision or any commercial outcome. Clinical areas including procedure, post-procedure and photography rooms are left unscented, and the treating clinician's judgement overrides any scenting plan in their own room. The hotel-inspired scents are SOSA's own original interpretations; SOSA is an independent brand and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any hotel named for reference.
