The most common question I get about diffusers is also the simplest to answer wrong. Add too little and you wonder why you bought it; add too much and the room feels heavy by lunchtime. Here is the honest dosing rule I give every customer, and why a water-based fragrance behaves the way it does.
Quick answers — read this first
How much fragrance per tank? Start with 3 to 6 drops of SOSA Hotel Collection fragrance per full water tank, then adjust up or down to taste.

More drops for a bigger room? Yes - lean towards 6 drops (or a touch more) for a large or airy room, and 3 drops for a small bedroom or bathroom.

Can I add it neat, without water? No. The SOSA Hotel Collection is water-based and made for the tank. Run a SOSA ultrasonic diffuser with water plus a few drops, never neat oil.
The short answer
Standard dose: 3 to 6 drops of SOSA Hotel Collection per full tank of water.
Adjust to taste: 3 drops for a small room, 6 for a larger one. Add one drop at a time.
Which fragrance: Use SOSA diffuser fragrance only - raw essential or carrier oils are too thick and can clog the misting plate.
Sizes & value: 15ml ₹299 lasts many fills; 100ml ₹999 and 300ml ₹1799 last months of daily use.
Hotel Collection value by size (illustrative)300ml ₹1799 — best value, ~₹6/ml100ml ₹999 — the value bottle, ~₹10/ml15ml ₹299 — try a scent, ~₹20/ml
Illustrative only. A few drops per fill means even the 15ml lasts many uses; the 300ml is the lowest cost per ml for daily diffusing.
Straight answer
How much fragrance should you add to a diffuser?
Add 3 to 6 drops of SOSA Hotel Collection diffuser fragrance to a full water tank, then adjust to taste. Three drops suits a small bedroom or bathroom; lean towards six for a larger living room or an open, airy space. Add one drop at a time and run the diffuser for a few minutes before deciding to add more - it is easy to add scent and impossible to remove it. The fragrance is water-based and goes into the tank with the water; never run raw oil neat, as it can clog the misting plate.
Rule of thumb: 3 drops small room, 6 drops large room, one drop at a time.

Dosing by room and mood

The right number of drops depends on three things: the size of the room, how much airflow it has, and how strong you like your scent. A small, closed bedroom holds fragrance well, so 3 drops is plenty. A large living room with a ceiling fan running, or a room that opens onto a balcony, loses scent to the air faster - so reach for 5 or 6 drops, and you can nudge a little higher if you want a fuller room.

My honest advice is to under-dose first. Add 3 drops, run the diffuser for five minutes, and walk out and back in. Your nose adjusts to a scent you sit in (this is called olfactory fatigue), so the test is always how the room hits you on re-entry, not how it smells while you stand over the tank. If it is too soft, add one drop and repeat. You will find your number within two or three sessions, and it tends to stay the same for that room.

Mood matters too. For sleep or a spa-clean bathroom, keep it light - a clean white-tea scent at 3 drops is a whisper, not a statement. For entertaining, when you want guests to notice the moment they walk in, a warmer amber or citrus-pepper style at 6 drops carries that hotel-lobby first impression. The fragrance does the work; you are just setting the volume.

Why water-based dosing is different

The SOSA Hotel Collection is a water-based ultrasonic diffuser fragrance, which is a different animal from the thick essential or carrier oils people sometimes try to pour into a diffuser. An ultrasonic diffuser works by vibrating a small plate thousands of times a second to break water into a fine, cool mist; the fragrance rides out on that mist. Because our fragrance is made to disperse cleanly in water, a few drops spread evenly through the whole tank and mist out steadily, rather than pooling or sitting greasy on the surface.

This is also why dosing is by drops, not by filling the tank with fragrance. You are scenting water, not burning oil. Three to six drops in a tank of water is the correct ratio; more than that does not make the mist last longer, it just makes the air heavy and uses up your bottle faster. Always use SOSA diffuser fragrance - raw essential oils and carrier oils are too thick to mist properly and can clog the misting plate over time, which is the single most common reason a diffuser stops working well. The fragrance is IFRA-standard and phthalate-free, composed in our Pune lab by an ISIPCA-trained perfumer, and made specifically to run through SOSA ultrasonic diffusers such as Boondh, Sukoon and Phuhaar.

One last note for value: because the dose is so small, a little goes a long way. The 15ml bottle at ₹299 gives you many full tanks while you find your favourite scent; once you know it, the 100ml at ₹999 or 300ml at ₹1799 will last months of daily diffusing at the best price per ml.

A note from Sonal

I trained as a perfumer at ISIPCA in Versailles, and the one thing every great hotel taught me is that scent is the first thing you notice and the last thing you forget. I wanted to bottle that feeling for the home.

So the Hotel Collection is seven water-based diffuser fragrances, each my own interpretation of the style a famous hotel is known for - composed in our own lab, made to run cleanly through a SOSA ultrasonic diffuser. Please use the SOSA diffuser fragrance only; raw essential or carrier oils are thick and can clog the misting plate.

To be clear and honest: these are inspired interpretations, not the hotels' actual proprietary scents. SOSA is not affiliated with or endorsed by the hotels named - the names just describe the scent style. I would rather you knew exactly what you are buying: a perfumer's take on that hushed, expensive calm, at an honest price.

Frequently asked questions

How many drops of fragrance go in a diffuser?
Three to six drops of SOSA Hotel Collection per full water tank. Start at three for a small room, move towards six for a larger one, and add one drop at a time until it is right for you.
Can I put more drops to make it last longer?
No - more drops make the air heavier and use up your bottle faster, but they do not extend how long the mist runs. Run time depends on the water and your diffuser's timer, not the amount of fragrance.
Can I use essential oils instead of SOSA fragrance?
We do not recommend it. Raw essential and carrier oils are thick and can clog the ultrasonic misting plate. The SOSA Hotel Collection is water-based and made to mist cleanly through SOSA diffusers.
Do I add fragrance to the water or on its own?
Always into the water tank. Fill the tank with water to the line, then add 3 to 6 drops of fragrance. Never run a SOSA ultrasonic diffuser with neat oil and no water.
How much does the fragrance cost and what size should I start with?
The Hotel Collection is 15ml ₹299, 100ml ₹999 and 300ml ₹1799. Start with a 15ml to find your favourite of the seven scents, then size up to 100ml or 300ml for daily use.
