Founder Diaries · SOSA Attar & Perfume Oil Guides
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 8 min read Updated September 2026
Almost all fragrance buying advice optimises for how long something lasts, which is the wrong variable for an office - what a workplace constrains is how far it goes.
Quick answers — read this first
Should I choose an office attar by projection rather than longevity? Yes. Longevity decides whether you reapply; projection decides whether anybody minds. In an office only the second has consequences.

How do I judge projection before buying? By format and register: an oil projects less than a spray, musk less than sweetness, and any of them less at one dab.

Does low projection mean low quality? No. It is a design property. Many of the finest materials in perfumery are quiet by nature.
The short answer
Short answer: Longevity decides if you reapply; projection decides whether anyone minds. At work, only the second has consequences.
The pick: Adaa at ₹379 for lowest projection, Ameeri at ₹385 for controlled presence, Mastani at ₹389 after work.
Not sure which? WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with your office layout, how close you sit to colleagues and what you wear now - we will tell you the dose as well as the bottle.
How SOSA chooses an office attar - the order that actually worksStep 1 - decide the distance: pleasant at 50cm, absent at 2mStep 2 - choose the register: clean and close, not sweet or sharpStep 3 - one dab on the wrists, nothing on the neck in an AC roomStep 4 - apply at home, never inside the buildingStep 5 - trust the clock, not your nose - fatigue sets in by half an hour
Office fragrance goes wrong in a predictable order: somebody applies a spray dose of an oil, puts it on the neck in an air-conditioned room, tops it up at lunch because they can no longer smell it, and never finds out what the row behind them thinks. Distance first, register second, dose third, timing fourth, and the clock rather than your own nose fifth. This guide walks that sequence, with the real SOSA attar range at each price.
Straight answer
How do I choose an office attar based on projection rather than longevity?
Start by accepting that they are different questions with different consequences. Longevity is a convenience problem: if a fragrance fades by four, you reapply or you do not, and the cost is entirely yours. Projection is a social one: if a fragrance reaches three desks away, the cost is paid by people who had no say in it. In an office, only the second has consequences for anybody else, which is why it should be the first thing you select for. Three things predict projection reliably. Format: an oil stays on skin and an alcohol spray disperses into air, so an oil projects less by construction. Register: musk and clean citrus sit closest; sweetness and dense resins carry furthest. Dose: one dab on the wrists is about a metre, two plus the neck is two to three. Adaa at ₹379 is the lowest-projection option in the range and it still lasts a working day, which is the point - low projection does not mean short. Longevity then becomes a secondary filter rather than the headline. Once you have chosen something that stays in your space, ask whether it survives until six; if it does, you never have to reapply at your desk, which removes the other common office problem in one move. Low projection is a design property, not a weakness - some of the finest materials in perfumery are quiet by nature. Fragrance is personal and skin chemistry is real - no attar performs identically on everyone.
One line: pick for reach first and duration second - at a desk, only reach has consequences for other people.
If you want one clear answer rather than a shortlist: SOSA Adaa at ₹379 for 3ml - the lowest-projection option in the range, and still a full working day of wear. 6ml at ₹669 once you know it is yours.

Two different variables

One costs you an inconvenience. The other costs everybody around you a working day.

Why this works
Wearing fragrance at work
1 A shared room is an audience that never chose your fragrance 2 Recirculated air accumulates - halve what you would wear outdoors 3 Wrists only; the neck projects upward into everybody else's air 4 Nose fatigue makes over-application feel like under-application
The office shortlist: Adaa ₹379 as the daily, Ameeri ₹385 for client meetings, Mastani ₹389 for office-to-evening, Nawaab ₹399 for after work. All 3ml, 6ml from ₹669.
01
Why projection comes first
It is the one with a victim
If a fragrance fades early, you are mildly inconvenienced. If it travels too far, other people absorb the consequence for eight hours, and they have no way to opt out. That asymmetry is why reach should be the primary filter at work and duration the secondary one - which is the opposite of how fragrance is marketed.
Tip: Fading costs you. Reaching costs them.
02
How to predict reach
Format, register, dose
An oil projects less than a spray by construction; musk and clean citrus sit closer than sweetness and dense resins; and one dab on the wrists is roughly a metre against two to three for a full application. Those three variables predict reach far better than any description on a product page, and all three are knowable before you buy.
03
Low projection is not short
Quiet things last
The assumption that a quiet fragrance is a weak one is backwards - musks are among the longest-lasting materials in perfumery and project almost nothing. You can have a full working day of wear inside a one-metre radius, which is exactly what an office needs and exactly what an oil attar provides.
Tip: Quiet and long-lasting are the same materials, often.
The SOSA principle
If your fragrance fades early, you are inconvenienced. If it travels too far, everyone else is.
That asymmetry is the whole argument for choosing by reach at work.
SOSA Ameeri Taif rose and Indian sandalwood attar roll-on
Controlled presence SOSA Ameeri roll-on attar ₹385 Taif rose, Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron and a soft oudh. Controlled presence - more to notice at conversational range, and still inside a metre at a single dab. See full notes →Ask on WhatsApp

Picking between the three

Select for reach, then check duration - in that order, which is the reverse of how fragrance is usually sold.

The SOSA scent edit
Reading a fragrance for reach
Scent Why it suits the mood
Format Oil stays on the skin; an alcohol spray disperses into the air by design
Register Musk and clean citrus sit closest; sweetness and dense resins carry furthest
Dose One dab on the wrists is about a metre; two plus the neck is two to three
Duration Check it second - and prefer something that lasts to six so you never reapply at a desk

The SOSA attar range

Whatever the workplace, the method is the same: decide how far the fragrance should travel, choose a register that stays there, apply one dab at home, and trust the clock rather than your own nose. Every SOSA attar is alcohol-free and made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the range by the wear it is honestly built for.

The SOSA attar range
Sorted by where each one belongs in a working day - from a ₹379 3ml roll-on to the ₹3,189 trio
Option Right for What it actually is Price
SOSA Adaa The office daily, four or five days a week Bergamot, green cardamom, jasmine sambac, white musk. Bright and close to the skin ₹379 / ₹669 / ₹1,149
SOSA Ameeri Client meetings, presentations, occasions at work Taif rose, Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron, soft oudh. Warm rather than sharp ₹385 / ₹679 / ₹1,165
SOSA Mastani Office-to-evening, at one dab Night-blooming jasmine, damask rose, oudh. An evening fragrance by construction ₹389 / ₹685 / ₹1,179
SOSA Nawaab After work, and winter offices at a single dab White royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron. The richest register in the range ₹399 / ₹699 / ₹1,199

Beast solid perfume Travel, a bag, no spill risk Alcohol-free solid body perfume, 15g, applied with a fingertip ₹549
SOSA eau de parfum sprays Projection, and people who prefer a spray SOSA's own interpretations in 10ml, 50ml and 100ml - a different format, not a replacement for attar from ₹599
Honest notes: fragrance is personal and skin chemistry is real, so longevity, projection and the way a fragrance develops vary between people - no attar performs identically on everyone, and a description is a guide rather than a guarantee. Oil-based attars contain no alcohol, which generally means they sit closer to the skin and change more slowly than a spray; that is a difference in behaviour, not a claim of superiority. Application dose matters more than most people expect: two dabs on pulse points is the intended amount, one in peak heat, and fragrance is not applied to clothing. Heat and humidity lift a fragrance, so the same bottle reads stronger in an Indian summer than in December. SOSA makes no therapeutic, medical, mood or attraction claims for any fragrance, and no claim that a fragrance influences how others judge or respond to the wearer. Bottle sizes are 3ml, 6ml and 12ml; the oil is the same across sizes, and cost per application falls as the bottle gets larger. SOSA's fragrances are made in India. SOSA Mastani night-blooming jasmine and damask rose attar roll-on

A note from Sonal

Every product page in fragrance leads with longevity, because longevity sounds like value. For an office it is almost the least important property, and I would happily trade two hours of wear for half a metre of reach.

The mistake I correct most often at work is not the choice of fragrance but the amount. Nose fatigue sets in within about half an hour, so the instinct to top up at lunch is precisely backwards - the room has not stopped smelling it just because you have.

A shared office is the only place people wear fragrance for an audience that never agreed to it, which is the whole argument for restraint. Fragrance is personal - skin, season and dose all change what happens, and no bottle behaves the same on two people. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 and I will help you narrow it down. A part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

Should I choose an office attar by projection rather than longevity?
Yes. Longevity decides whether you reapply; projection decides whether anybody minds. Only the second has consequences at work.
How can I judge projection before buying?
By format, register and dose - an oil projects less than a spray, musk less than sweetness, and one dab less than three.
Does low projection mean it will fade quickly?
No. Musks project very little and last a great deal - quiet and long-lasting are frequently the same materials.
Which is the lowest-projection option?
Adaa at ₹379, and it still lasts a working day.
Why does this matter more than longevity?
Because fading inconveniences you, and reaching too far affects everyone around you. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

Editorial standards & sources
About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the method - decide the distance first, choose a register that stays there, apply one dab at home - applies whatever brand a buyer finally chooses.

Facts verified September 2026: Fragrance preference is personal and skin chemistry varies, so longevity, projection and development differ between wearers; published notes describe an intended character rather than a guaranteed performance. Oil-based attars contain no alcohol, which generally results in slower evaporation and a closer wear than an alcohol-based spray; this is a difference in format behaviour and not a claim of superiority. Higher skin and ambient temperatures increase the rate at which fragrance materials leave the skin, raising perceived intensity and shortening wear. Two dabs on pulse points is the intended application dose for an oil attar, reduced to one in heat. SOSA makes no therapeutic, medical, mood, attraction or wellbeing claims for any fragrance, and no claim that a fragrance influences how others judge or respond to the wearer.
