What buyers ask us about hotel and spa scents
Including the questions where the answer is "we do not make that" and "you cannot put that on your skin"
"I want to smell like a luxury hotel lobby. What do I buy?"
Usually a clean white musk with soft woods. In our range that is Adaa. What we will not do is tell you it reproduces any particular hotel, because it does not and we have no authorisation to try.
Hotel-inspired scent · answered by Sonal Sahani
"Can I wear my reed diffuser oil as a perfume?"
No. Reed oil is assessed for evaporation from a reed in a room, not for leave-on skin application. They are different use cases with different exposure, and we will not sell you one as the other.
Home against skin · answered by Sonal Sahani
"You make a lavender reed diffuser. Do you make a lavender attar?"
No. Evening Calm is Himalayan lavender and chamomile for a room. We do not make a lavender attar, and rather than steer you to something that is not lavender, we will tell you that plainly.
What we do not make · answered by Sonal Sahani
"I want white tea and clean hotel linen on my skin."
We do not make that as an attar. Adaa is the closest thing we have, and it is citrus and jasmine sambac over white musk rather than a linen accord. If linen is the point, we are not your brand for it.
Clean linen · answered by Sonal Sahani
"Which hotel is the Hotel Collection based on?"
It is our own interpretation of a style of hospitality scenting. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel group, and it is an ultrasonic diffuser fragrance for rooms rather than a skin product.
Independence · answered by Sonal Sahani
"Will it last all day like my spray?"
We do not publish hour figures for any fragrance, because how long one seems to last depends on your skin, the weather and how quickly you stop noticing it. An oil-carried attar sits close rather than projecting.

Founder Diaries · Luxury Hotel & Spa Inspired Fragrance
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 13 min read Updated October 2026
Start by dropping one assumption, because it will lead you badly astray: essential oil does not mean gentler. Natural materials carry declarable allergen constituents as a matter of their own chemistry, international fragrance standards apply limits to naturals exactly as they do to synthetics, and the most common real risk in this category is an undiluted essential oil sold for direct skin use.
Quick answers — read this first
Does essential oil mean gentler? No. Rose and jasmine naturally contain geraniol, citronellol and linalool, which are declarable allergens. International fragrance standards set limits for natural materials as well as synthetic ones.

What is the real risk in this category? Undiluted or near-undiluted essential oil sold for direct skin application, with no finished-product safety assessment at the concentration you will actually wear.

What are the four questions? Is it assessed as leave-on skin fragrance at its selling concentration, is there a declarable-allergen list, is there a supplier IFRA conformity statement, and what is the carrier.
The short answer
Short answer: Essential oil does not mean gentler: naturals carry declarable allergens such as geraniol and citronellol and IFRA limits apply to them too. Ask four questions: leave-on assessment at selling concentration, allergen list, supplier IFRA conformity statement, and the carrier.
The honest limit: no fragrance we sell reproduces any hotel, spa, resort or retail brand's proprietary scent, and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any of them. Where we do not make a family, we say so rather than recommending something adjacent.
Home is not skin: reed diffuser oil and the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance are assessed for room use and are not assessed or sold for application to skin. Attars and solid perfumes are the skin products.
Where a hotel-style scent actually lives - and what it is assessed forUltrasonic mist diffuser - water-based Hotel Collection fragrance, room useReed diffuser - its own alcohol-free reed oil, room useAttar or solid perfume - assessed for leave-on skinThe three do not interchangeA scent family can cross between them. A formulation cannot, because the exposure is different.
You can carry a scent family from a room to your skin. You cannot carry a formulation, because a product assessed for evaporating in a room has not been assessed for sitting on you. That distinction is the whole of this guide.
Straight answer
Is an essential-oil attar safer for my skin?
Not by virtue of being natural, no. Why the assumption fails. Rose oil naturally contains geraniol and citronellol. Lavender naturally contains linalool. Clove naturally contains eugenol. All of these are declarable fragrance allergens, and they are present because that is the chemistry of the plant, not because anyone added them. International fragrance standards set use limits for natural materials just as they do for synthetic ones, and a natural material at high concentration is restricted more tightly than a synthetic one at low concentration. Where the real risk sits. Not in composed fragrance but in undiluted or barely diluted essential oil sold for direct application to skin, with no safety assessment at the concentration a person will actually wear. That is the product category to be careful with, and it is often the one marketed hardest on the word natural. The four questions that settle it. One: has the finished product been assessed as leave-on fine fragrance applied to skin, at its actual selling concentration? Two: is there a declarable-allergen list? Three: is there a supplier IFRA conformity statement for the concentrate? Four: what is the carrier? Our answers: yes, yes, yes, and an oil carrier that we will name per product. All four are available on +91 96192 18531, per product and per size.
Natural is not a safety category. Four documents are. Ask for all four, from us or from anyone.
If the brief is clean, quiet and expensive-feeling, the honest starting point in our range is Adaa at ₹379 for 3ml. If it is polished woods, Nawaab at ₹399.

Four questions that actually settle it

It is worth saying plainly what our attars are, because the word attar is used loosely and the honest answer sits between two things people expect. They are composed fragrances. They contain natural materials and they contain synthetic materials, and the proportion varies by composition because the composition is chosen for how it smells and how it behaves rather than to hit a natural percentage. We do not describe them as all-natural, we do not describe them as essential-oil attars, and we would be misrepresenting them if we did. Several of the materials in them are naturals: the rose, the jasmine, the sandalwood and the saffron are described by their material names for that reason. Some of what sits around those materials is synthetic, including parts of the musk accords, because high-quality synthetic musks are the reason a clean musk can be stable and consistent at all, and because many natural musks are either unobtainable or unacceptable on ethical grounds. This is the ordinary situation across modern fine fragrance, including at the highest end, and a brand implying otherwise is usually either misinformed or counting on you not asking. The useful question is never the natural percentage. It is whether the finished thing was assessed for the use you are putting it to, and that question has a documented answer.

1
Naturals carry allergens as chemistry
Not as contamination
Rose naturally contains geraniol and citronellol, lavender contains linalool, clove contains eugenol. All are declarable fragrance allergens, present because that is the chemistry of the plant. A natural material at high concentration can be restricted more tightly than a synthetic one at low concentration.
Tip: So natural is a sourcing description, not a safety category.
2
Where the real risk is
Undiluted oil sold for direct skin use
The product to be careful with is not composed fragrance but near-undiluted essential oil applied directly to skin with no finished-product assessment at wearing concentration. It is also frequently the product marketed hardest on the word natural, which is the uncomfortable part of this answer.
3
What our attars actually are
Composed fragrance, naturals and synthetics both
They contain natural materials and synthetic ones, in proportions chosen for how the composition smells and behaves rather than to hit a natural percentage. We do not call them all-natural or essential-oil attars because they are not. This is the ordinary situation across modern fine fragrance at every price level.
Tip: The useful question is not the natural percentage. It is whether the finished thing was assessed for your use.
The SOSA principle
Natural is a sourcing description. It is not a safety category, and treating it as one is how people end up applying undiluted oil to their skin.
The question with a documented answer is whether the finished product was assessed at the concentration you will wear.

Our answers to all four

What we hold and will send you, per product and per size, with no conditions. A finished-product safety assessment covering the attar as a leave-on fine fragrance applied to skin at its actual selling concentration, which is the document that matters most and the one least often offered. A declarable-allergen list for the composition, so you can check it against anything a dermatologist has previously identified for you. A supplier IFRA conformity statement for the fragrance concentrate. A product-level statement on ethanol, the carrier, DEP and animal-derived materials: our attars use an oil carrier with no added ethanol and contain no intentionally added DEP. We do not publish formula compositions or percentages. We also do not describe our attars as chemical-free, hypoallergenic or safe for everyone, because no honest fragrance brand can substantiate those. If your skin reacts to any fragrance, stop using it and speak to a dermatologist, and tell us so we can send the allergen list immediately. Adaa ₹379, Ameeri ₹385, Mastani ₹389, Nawaab ₹399.

The SOSA scent edit
Four questions, our four answers
Scent Why it suits the mood
Leave-on assessment Yes. Each attar is assessed as leave-on fine fragrance applied to skin at its actual selling concentration, not at some other dilution
Declarable-allergen list Yes, per product and per size, sent on request so you can check it against anything a dermatologist has identified
Supplier IFRA conformity statement Yes, for the fragrance concentrate. We do not publish formula compositions or percentages
The carrier An oil carrier, no added ethanol, no intentionally added DEP. We will name the specific material per product on request

Rose contains geraniol because it is rose. Nobody added it, and no brand can take it out and still have rose.

What SOSA actually makes

Every SOSA attar and solid perfume is alcohol-free and assessed for leave-on skin application. Our reed diffusers and the Hotel Collection ultrasonic fragrance are home products and are not assessed for skin. Here is the range with the honest description of each, including the families we do not make at all.

What we actually make, and what each one is for
One genuinely clean attar, two woody ones, two musk-based solids, and a room fragrance that is not for skin
Product Where it sits What it is, honestly From
Adaa attar 3ml The clean one · closest to a hotel lobby Bergamot, green cardamom, jasmine sambac and a white musk accord. The only genuinely clean, airy composition in our attar range, and the honest answer to most hotel-inspired requests ₹379
Nawaab attar 3ml Polished woods · expensive interiors White royal oud, Mysore sandalwood and Kashmir saffron. For wooden-interior and quiet-luxury requests rather than clean-linen ones ₹399
Ameeri attar 3ml Warm sandalwood · heritage hospitality Taif rose, Indian sandalwood, saffron and soft oudh. Rose inside a warm resinous structure, closest to a grand Indian hotel atmosphere ₹385
Velour solid 15g White musk base · skin-close Toasted almond and whipped cream over a white musk base. Soft and skin-close, and sweeter than a hotel-clean scent, which we would rather say than imply ₹479
Sterling solid 15g Powdered musk · refined Almond nougat and white amber over powdered musk. Refined and velvety, and genuinely powdery, so not for anyone who has told us they dislike powder ₹469
Hotel Collection 15ml Rooms only · never skin Water-based fragrance for ultrasonic mist diffusers. Our own interpretation of hospitality scenting, for air rather than for people ₹299

Attars come in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml: Adaa ₹379 / ₹669 / ₹1,149; Ameeri ₹385 / ₹679 / ₹1,165; Mastani ₹389 / ₹685 / ₹1,179; Nawaab ₹399 / ₹699 / ₹1,199; the three-attar trio ₹1,055 / ₹1,859 / ₹3,189 against ₹1,173 / ₹2,063 / ₹3,543 bought singly. Solid body perfumes are 15g, alcohol-free, from ₹459. What we do not make as a skin fragrance: white tea, clean linen or cotton musk, lavender, vetiver, cedarwood, aquatic or marine, and pine. Several of those exist in our home range and are not assessed for skin. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal

"I want to smell like a five-star hotel" is one of my favourite things a customer can say, because it tells me far more than a note list would. It tells me you want clean rather than sweet, quiet rather than loud, and expensive-feeling rather than obviously perfumed. That is a brief I can work with.

It also comes with two things I have to be straight with you about. The first is that I cannot sell you a hotel's scent. Those are proprietary compositions made for specific groups, and anybody offering you a reproduction is either guessing or doing something they should not. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel group. What I can do is work in the same fragrance families and say so honestly.

The second is harder on my own sales. Our home fragrances are not for your skin. Reed oil is assessed for evaporating from a reed in a room. The Hotel Collection is a water-based fragrance for an ultrasonic mist diffuser. Neither has been assessed for leave-on application to a person, and the exposure is completely different. I will not sell you one as the other, however much you like how it smells in your hallway.

And there are things we simply do not make. No lavender attar. No vetiver attar. No white tea, no clean linen, no cedarwood, no aquatic. Several of those scents live in our reed diffusers and stay there. If that is what you came for, I would rather tell you than sell you something adjacent and hope you do not notice. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

Is an essential-oil attar gentler on skin?
Not by virtue of being natural. Rose naturally contains geraniol and citronellol, lavender contains linalool, clove contains eugenol, and all are declarable fragrance allergens present as the plant's own chemistry. International standards set limits for naturals too.
What is the actual risk to watch for?
Undiluted or barely diluted essential oil sold for direct application to skin with no finished-product safety assessment at the concentration you will wear. That category is often marketed hardest on the word natural.
Are SOSA attars all-natural?
No, and we would be misrepresenting them to say so. They are composed fragrances containing both natural and synthetic materials, in proportions chosen for how the composition smells and behaves rather than to hit a natural percentage.
Which four questions should I ask any brand?
Has the finished product been assessed as leave-on fine fragrance at its actual selling concentration; is there a declarable-allergen list; is there a supplier IFRA conformity statement for the concentrate; and what is the carrier.
What does SOSA send on request?
The finished-product safety assessment, the declarable-allergen list, the supplier IFRA conformity statement, and a product-level statement on ethanol, carrier, DEP and animal-derived materials. Per product and per size, on WhatsApp. Formula percentages are not disclosed.

Hotel Collection ultrasonic diffuser fragrance (water-based, room use) from ₹299 for 15ml.

Formulation and use: SOSA attars are formulated with an oil carrier and no added ethanol, contain no intentionally added DEP, and are assessed as leave-on fine fragrance applied to skin at their actual selling concentration. Supplier IFRA conformity statements, declarable-allergen lists and the finished-product safety assessment are available per product on WhatsApp on +91 96192 18531; formula compositions and percentages are not disclosed. Reed diffuser oil and the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance are assessed for room use and are not assessed or sold for application to skin. SOSA does not describe its products as chemical-free, hypoallergenic or safe for everyone, publishes no longevity or hour figures, and makes no claim to reproduce any hotel, spa, resort or retail brand's proprietary fragrance. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel, hospitality or fashion group. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live collection pages.

General context: Fragrance safety standards set limits by product use category, so a composition assessed for diffusion in a room has not thereby been assessed for leave-on skin exposure. Nothing on this page is medical advice; if your skin reacts to a fragrance, stop using it and speak to a dermatologist.
