Three months is an awkward length and that is exactly what makes this question interesting. It is too long to live out of a suitcase - by week three the flat is where he lives, not where he is staying - and too short to furnish, because nothing he buys will be worth taking home and everything he buys has to be dealt with in March. A serviced apartment is furnished to somebody else's taste and he cannot change any of it. Scent is one of the few things he can change, from ₹749 at the cheap end and ₹3,999 for the one that comes home with him.
SOSA Safar waterless cordless diffuser for a serviced apartment stay, Rs 3,999
SOSA Safar · about 6.9 cm, and it comes home in March ₹3,999 →
The version that outlives the posting. SOSA Safar, ₹3,999 - about 6.9 cm, cold diffusion of pure oil from a 20ml bottle, a 2000 mAh Type-C battery giving up to 10 hours continuous or 30 hours intermittent, three speeds and a 1, 2 or 3-hour auto shut-off. The cheaper answer is a reed from ₹749.
Quick answers — read this first
What gift suits someone spending three months in a serviced apartment? Something that changes the flat without adding to what he has to deal with at the end. The honest cheap answer is a SOSA reed diffuser from ₹749, which runs about 6 to 10 weeks with nothing to charge. The answer that outlives the posting is SOSA Safar at ₹3,999, about 6.9 cm, which goes home with him.

Why not just buy things for the flat? Because everything bought for a three-month flat becomes a problem in the third month. A serviced apartment is furnished, so there is no gap to fill, and anything substantial has to be given away or carried home. The useful gifts here are the ones that are either consumed by the end of the stay or small enough to go in a bag - Safar is approximately 6.9 cm.

Does a diffuser deal with how a serviced flat smells? No. Safar adds a scent he chose to a space he did not choose, and it does not remove, neutralise or mask what is already there. It is aroma only. That is still useful, because the complaint about a serviced flat is usually that nothing in it is his rather than that anything is wrong with it, and one chosen element answers that honestly.
The short answer
Short answer: Consider the cheaper answer first: a SOSA reed diffuser from Rs 749 runs about 6 to 10 weeks and suits a furnished flat perfectly. The case for SOSA Safar at Rs 3,999 is that it is about 6.9 cm, has a 1, 2 or 3-hour auto shut-off, and comes home with him when the posting ends.
The pick: A reed diffuser from ₹749 if the budget is the point, or SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 if the gift should outlast the posting.
Why: A furnished flat has no gap for objects, so the gift has to be either used up by March or small enough to travel. A reed is used up. Safar is about 6.9 cm and comes home.
Sending something when somebody is having a hard time - at a glanceKeep it small - candle ₹399, attar ₹379, car scent ₹449For their home - reed diffuser ₹749, nothing to switch onSay the words yourself - no card goes in the parcelNever - a parcel instead of turning up
A gift cannot change how somebody's week went, and a page that suggests otherwise is not worth reading. What a small parcel does is tell a person you were thinking about them on a day when nothing made you - which is a real thing to say, and worth saying. Keep it small, because a large one asks somebody already short of energy to produce a reaction, and send the words separately, because the object cannot carry them.
Straight answer
What can you give someone living in a serviced apartment for three months?
Start with the honest cheaper option, because it genuinely works. A SOSA reed diffuser from ₹749 in 50ml, or ₹1,249 in 130ml, runs about 6 to 10 weeks with nothing to charge, light or switch off, and a serviced flat is a normal indoor room where a reed behaves exactly as it does at home. Two 50ml bottles roughly span the posting. It is a fifth of the price of the alternative and for a stay with an end date that is a real argument. The case for SOSA Safar at ₹3,999, or ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired trios, is different: approximately 6.9 cm, a 20ml bottle of pure oil with no water, a 2000 mAh battery over Type-C giving up to 10 hours continuous or up to 30 hours intermittent per charge, three speeds and a 1, 2 or 3-hour auto shut-off timer. It moves from the desk to the bedroom, it goes with him on the trips the posting involves, and in March it goes in a bag rather than in a bin. Three limits: it adds a scent and does not remove, neutralise or mask one; no coverage or room-size figure is published; and rules about batteries and liquids belong to the airline rather than to SOSA. A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
The flat is already furnished. The only things worth giving are the ones that are used up by March or that fit in a bag.
Two honest answers: a reed diffuser from ₹749 for the three months, or Safar at ₹3,999 for the three months and everything after.

Three months is the gap: too long for a suitcase, too short to furnish

Three months has a shape of its own, and the gift that suits it is decided by that shape rather than by budget. Take the cheaper answer seriously first.

1
The first thing
What three months actually rules in and out
A week is a hotel stay and you pack accordingly. A year is a move and you furnish. Three months is neither, and every awkward thing about this gift comes from that.

Too long to live out of a suitcase. By the third week he is not visiting, he lives there. The flat becomes the place he has dinner, takes calls and spends Sundays, and the total absence of anything of his own starts to register in a way it never does on a four-night trip.

Too short to furnish. A serviced apartment already has everything, chosen by a management company for a hundred occupants. There is no gap for a lamp and no reason to buy a rug that has to be dealt with in March. He probably cannot drill, paint or move much, and whatever arrives has to leave again.

So the gift has to fall into one of two categories: things that are finished by the time he leaves, or things small enough to go home in a bag. That is a short list, and scent is on it twice - once as a consumable, once as an object of about 6.9 cm.
Tip: Either it is used up by March or it fits in a bag. Nothing else is a kind gift for a temporary flat.
2
The second thing
The cheaper answer, and it is a good one
I would rather say this plainly than sell past it. A serviced apartment is a normal indoor flat, and a reed diffuser works perfectly well in it. SOSA's reeds are ₹749 to ₹849 in 50ml and ₹1,249 to ₹1,349 in 130ml, and they run about 6 to 10 weeks. One 130ml bottle, or two 50ml ones, covers a three-month posting almost exactly. There is nothing to charge, nothing to light and nothing to switch off, and at the end of the stay the thing has largely finished itself, which is precisely what you want from an object in a flat that has to be handed back.

At ₹749 against ₹3,999 that is a fifth of the price for a job it does well. If the budget is the binding constraint, buy the reed and do not feel you have compromised.

Where it stops is worth knowing too. A reed is liquid sitting in an open bottle with sticks in it, so it stays in one room and it does not travel - which matters if the posting involves moving between cities, and it matters in March when a half-full bottle of oil is not going in a bag. It also has no settings of any kind. And when it is done, it is done: the gift has an expiry that roughly matches the posting, which is either the point or the problem depending on how you look at it.
3
The third thing
The case for the portable one, and its limits
It outlives the posting. That is the honest argument for spending five times as much. Three months ends, and a reed ends with it, while a device goes in the bag and carries on in the next flat, the next hotel and eventually at home. If the posting is the first of several, that changes the arithmetic completely.

It moves with him inside the flat and outside it. At approximately 6.9 cm and cordless, with a 2000 mAh Type-C battery giving up to 10 hours continuous or up to 30 hours intermittent per charge, it goes from the desk in the day to the bedroom at night, and into the bag for the work trips a three-month posting usually involves. The 1, 2 or 3-hour auto shut-off means it stops on its own in a flat he is only borrowing.

Nothing is left behind and nothing is consumed by the building. No water, no socket while it runs, nothing that marks a surface, and no half-used bottle of liquid to deal with at the end.

Three limits, straight. It adds a scent and does not remove one - if the flat smells of the last tenant's cooking, this sits alongside that rather than dealing with it. No coverage figure is published, so the three speed settings are the only sizing control. And ask what comes in the box on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 before buying - the page lists diffuser, 20ml bottle, Type-C cable and manual, and separately says to add your own fragrance oil, while the variants are named as trios.
Tip: The reed ends when the posting ends. The device does not, and that is what you are paying for.
SOSA Safar waterless diffuser with three speeds and an auto shut-off timer
The feature that matters away from home
The auto shut-off timer is why this works in a room you are leaving
Safar has a 1, 2 or 3-hour auto shut-off timer and three speed settings. That sounds like a specification line and it is actually the whole argument for using it somewhere that is not your house: you are in somebody else's property, you will walk out in the morning, and you do not want to be the person wondering whether they switched something off. Set it when you drop your bag, and it stops on its own. The battery gives up to 10 hours continuous or up to 30 hours intermittent on one charge - which on a four-night trip usually means the Type-C cable stays in the bag.
See SOSA Safar ₹3,999 →
Work it out in this order
How to choose between the two in about five minutes
  1. Rule out anything he would have to give away or carry home in March.
  2. If budget decides it, buy a reed from Rs 749 and buy two 50ml bottles.
  3. If more postings are coming, the Rs 3,999 device outlives this one.
  4. Ask on WhatsApp what comes in the box before you buy it as a gift.
The SOSA principle
A serviced apartment is not unpleasant, it is anonymous, and it is anonymous on purpose. Everything in it was chosen to suit anybody, which is the same thing as suiting nobody in particular.
That is why the useful gift is not an improvement to the flat but a single element that is his decision, and why it has to be something the flat can absorb and then release in March.

Which trio, and the cheaper answer you should consider first

If it is the device, there are two tiers and they differ only in the fragrance. At ₹3,999 the SOSA-scent trios are vetiver with Mysore sandalwood and tobacco vanilla, white jasmine with neelakurinji and Malabar lemon, or Japanese cherry blossom with mahogany and sage and cedar. At ₹4,499 the hotel-inspired trios are SOSA's own interpretations of the kind of scent associated with particular hotel groups, and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. For a serviced flat I would lean to the ₹3,999 tier, and for a specific reason: the whole complaint about corporate accommodation is that it has been done to a formula, and a scent that reads as hotel-like is arguably more of the same. Something that smells like his own home, or like nothing he associates with work, does the job better. If he already has a reed at home in one of the SOSA scents, matching it is a quietly good idea.

The SOSA gift edit
Four ways to change a flat you have to hand back
The option Who it suits, and where it fails
A reed diffuser · from ₹749 The cheapest answer that genuinely works here. About 6 to 10 weeks, nothing to charge, light or switch off, and it finishes at roughly the same time the posting does. One 130ml bottle covers most of three months. It is open liquid, so it stays in one room and does not travel, and it has no settings at all.
SOSA Safar · ₹3,999 to ₹4,499 About 6.9 cm, waterless, cordless, three speeds and a 1, 2 or 3-hour auto shut-off, with a 2000 mAh Type-C battery giving up to 10 hours continuous or up to 30 hours intermittent. It moves room to room, goes on the trips and comes home in March. Five times the price of a reed, and it adds a scent rather than removing one.
An ultrasonic diffuser · Sukoon ₹1,899 Sits between the two on price and is a pleasant thing to own. It is water-based, so it needs filling each time and it needs a socket in a flat where he does not choose where the sockets are. It is also a tank of water on furniture that is not his, and one more object to pack or abandon at the end.
SOSA Vaayu · ₹11,999 Rated for approximately 1000 m3 of connected air, app and timer, mains powered. It is a superb machine and completely wrong here: it is installed rather than placed, it stays where it is put, and it is not his flat to install anything in. Buy this for the home he goes back to, if at all.
SOSA Safar waterless travel diffuser, approximately 6.9 cm
The measurement the packing question turns on
6.9 cm, no water, and nothing that can leak into a suitcase
A reed diffuser is liquid in an open bottle and a candle needs a flame, which is why neither travels. Safar is approximately 6.9 cm, takes no water at all, and carries its fragrance as pure oil in a sealed 20ml bottle - so the thing that usually rules a fragrance product out of a suitcase does not apply. Two honest notes: what arrives in terms of oil is worth confirming before you buy this as a gift, and battery and liquid rules for flying belong to the airline, not to SOSA, so check with yours rather than with a page.
See the nebuliser oils from ₹1,049 →

Practical notes for either choice. Safar takes pure fragrance oil into the 20ml bottle and no water; SOSA's waterless nebuliser oils are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm, a good-quality pure essential oil also works, and thick, sticky or water-based blends can clog the mechanism. It never takes the ₹299 water-based Hotel Collection bottle, which belongs to the ultrasonic machines. Two things nobody can tell you: how long 20ml of oil lasts is not published, and neither is charge time - so if he is away for the full three months, sending the 100 gm with it is the sensible hedge. One more honest note about the device itself: Safar is imported from China. SOSA's own fragrances are blended in India, which is a separate fact about a separate thing, and it is worth keeping the two apart rather than blurring them.

SOSA Safar waterless cordless travel perfume diffuser, Rs 3,999
₹3,999. Vetiver with Mysore sandalwood and tobacco vanilla, white jasmine with neelakurinji and Malabar lemon, or Japanese cherry blossom with mahogany and sage and cedar. 6.9 cm, cordless, Type-C.

SOSA Safar waterless diffuser, hotel-inspired trios, Rs 4,499
₹4,499. The same device with SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand, and these are SOSA compositions rather than the hotel scents they are described as inspired by.
₹4,499
SOSA waterless nebuliser refill oils for Safar and Vaayu, from Rs 1,049
Waterless nebuliser oils at ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm. Pure oil into the 20ml bottle, no water. Thick, sticky or water-based blends can clog the mechanism, so this is not the place to improvise.
from ₹1,049
The one distinction that settles most of these questions
Safar ₹3,999 goes with the person. Vaayu ₹11,999 stays with the building
Safar is 6.9 cm, runs on a 2000 mAh battery over Type-C, and gives up to 10 hours continuous or up to 30 hours intermittent on one charge, with 3 speeds and a 1/2/3-hour auto shut-off timer. It is published for a car, a handbag, a desk or a hotel room, and it is aroma only - it does not humidify. Vaayu is the opposite proposition: a mains-powered waterless cold-air machine rated for approximately 1000 m3 of connected air, with a Bluetooth app and timer, a 400ml tank, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting and a DC 12V / 1A 5W supply, CE, RoHS and SGS marked. That rating assumes one connected body of air, so a Vaayu suits a large open home or a business and is wrong for a property with every door shut - and it is wrong for a suitcase by definition. Both run waterless nebuliser oil at ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm, and neither takes the ₹299 water-based Hotel Collection bottle. So the question is rarely which is better. It is whether you are scenting a place or a person's week.

Everything he buys for that flat has to be dealt with in March. That single sentence eliminates most of the gift list.

The SOSA gifting range

Two questions settle almost every reed diffuser gift, and the first one is not price. How big is the room it is going into? A 50ml suits a bedroom, a study, a hallway or a first diffuser; a 130ml suits an open-plan living and dining area, and it is genuinely too much for a small closed bedroom. Then: how much do you actually know about their taste? The less you know, the less declarative the scent should be - Morning Freshness is the safest of the five for a home you have never stood in, and Fresh Brew coffee-vanilla is the strongest opinion in the range. Price follows those two answers rather than leading them.

What the Safar page publishes, and what it does not
Everything below is on the live product page. Anything not on this list is not something a page like this should state.
  • The device - SOSA Safar, a waterless cordless cold-diffusion perfume diffuser, aroma only. Approximately 6.9 cm, so it fits a cup-holder or a handbag. Published for a car, a handbag, a desk or a hotel room.
  • Power - a 2000 mAh rechargeable lithium battery charged over Type-C, cable included. Up to 10 hours continuous or up to 30 hours intermittent on one charge. Those figures describe the battery, not how long the oil lasts.
  • Control - 3 speeds from light to intense, and a 1 / 2 / 3-hour auto shut-off timer. The timer is the reason it works in a room you are going to walk out of.
  • The oil - a 20ml bottle, filled with pure fragrance oil. SOSA waterless nebuliser oils are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm; a good-quality pure essential oil also works, while thick, sticky or water-based blends can clog the mechanism. It never takes the ₹299 water-based Hotel Collection bottle.
  • Price - ₹3,999 for the SOSA-scent trios and ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired trios, which are SOSA's own interpretations; SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. In the box: the diffuser, the 20ml bottle, a Type-C cable and a user manual. Country of origin China (imported) - SOSA's fragrances are made in India, the device is not.
  • Not published, and therefore never stated here: any coverage, room-size or square-footage figure; how long a charge takes; how long a 20ml fill lasts; any warranty period beyond being backed by SOSA support; noise, water resistance or operating temperature; anything about carrying a lithium battery on an aircraft, which is the airline's rule and not SOSA's; and anything about what a hotel will or will not permit in its rooms. Those go to WhatsApp +91 96192 18531, or in the case of flying, to your airline.

A note from Sonal

Safar started as a car product and then the messages changed. People kept writing to tell me where they had actually been using it, and it was almost never the car. It was a hotel room in a city they were in for two nights. It was a serviced flat in a place they had not chosen to live. It was a daughter's room in a university halls of residence eleven time zones away.

What I think is going on is quite specific, and it is not about luxury. A room you have not chosen is a room you have no memory of. Everything in it was selected by somebody else for somebody who is not you, and most of it is perfectly nice. The thing that makes a space yours is not how expensive it is - it is that something in it is the same as it was yesterday. Scent is unusually good at being that something, because it is the one part of a room you can carry in a handbag.

The feature I would point at, if I could only point at one, is the auto shut-off timer. It sounds like a small engineering detail and it is the reason the thing works away from home. You are in somebody else's property, you will leave in the morning, and you do not want to think about whether you switched something off. One hour, two or three, and it stops on its own.

And the part I will not dress up: this does not fix anything about being far from the people you like. It is a diffuser. It adds a scent you chose to a space you did not choose, and it does not remove whatever the room already smells of. That is a smaller claim than the ones usually made about travel products, and it happens to be true.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good gift for a three-month work posting?
Something used up by the end of it or small enough to come home. A SOSA reed diffuser from Rs 749 runs about 6 to 10 weeks and finishes with the posting. SOSA Safar at Rs 3,999 is about 6.9 cm, cordless, with three speeds and a 1, 2 or 3-hour auto shut-off, and it goes in the bag in March rather than being given away.
Would a reed diffuser work in a serviced apartment?
Yes, perfectly well, and it is a fifth of the price. A serviced flat is a normal indoor room, SOSA reeds are Rs 749 to Rs 849 in 50ml and Rs 1,249 to Rs 1,349 in 130ml, and they run about 6 to 10 weeks. The limits are that a reed is open liquid that stays in one room, has no settings, and does not travel with him to the next posting.
Why is three months harder to buy for than a year?
Because a year is a move and three months is not. A serviced apartment comes furnished to somebody else's taste and he usually cannot change it, so there is no gap for objects and no point buying anything substantial that has to be given away or carried home. The useful list is short and it is mostly consumables and small portable things.
Will it make the flat smell less anonymous?
It will put one element in it that he chose, which is a smaller and truer claim. Safar adds a scent and does not remove, neutralise or mask what is already there, and it is aroma only. The complaint about corporate accommodation is usually that nothing in it is his rather than that anything is wrong with it, and one chosen element speaks to that directly.
Is it better to spend Rs 749 or Rs 3,999 here?
It depends on whether this posting is the only one. For a single three-month stay a reed from Rs 749 does the job and ends when the stay ends. If he is likely to be posted again, or travels within the posting, the Rs 3,999 device is the better value because it keeps working afterwards, with pure oil refills at Rs 1,049 for 100 gm as the running cost.

SOSA waterless nebuliser oils, which Safar and SOSA Vaayu both run on, are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm; neither device takes the ₹299 water-based Hotel Collection bottle. SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 is a mains-powered waterless cold-air nebulising diffuser rated for approximately 1000 cubic metres of connected air with a Bluetooth app and timer, a 400 ml tank, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting and a DC 12V / 1A 5W supply, CE, RoHS and SGS; SOSA Meenar ₹38,500 covers 12,000 to 18,000 sq ft. What the Safar page does not publish, and what is therefore not stated anywhere here: any coverage, room-size, square-footage or cubic-volume figure; how long the battery takes to charge; how long a 20 ml fill of oil lasts, which is a different thing from battery runtime; any warranty period; noise level, water resistance or operating temperature; and how many drops a fill takes. The page's in-the-box list and its repeated instruction to add your own fragrance oil do not settle whether fragrance oil arrives with the device, so no claim is made here either way. About air travel: nothing on this page states or implies that Safar may be carried in cabin or hold baggage or taken through airport security. A rechargeable lithium battery is governed by the airline's rules and the reader should check with their airline. Nothing here states what any hotel will or will not permit in its rooms. Limits of this guide: Safar adds a scent to a space. It does not remove, neutralise, mask, cancel or purify any odour, it does not clean or humidify the air, and no SOSA product makes any health, antibacterial or air-purifying claim. No claim is made anywhere on this page about mood, stress, calm, sleep, comfort, homesickness or wellbeing: fragrance is a scent, not a treatment, and where a product name contains a word such as Calm that is a name and not an effect. No claim is made about how any recipient will feel. About origin and affiliation: SOSA Home & Body is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, Maharashtra, and sends orders across India, with no shop, showroom, stockist, counter or warehouse in any other city. SOSA's fragrances are made in India; the Safar device is imported, with China stated as its country of origin. SOSA blends described as hotel-inspired are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand.
