This is the question we get asked most directly, and it deserves the most direct answer in the whole cluster: no, mostly, one machine does not fragrance an entire multi-storey villa. We could tell you otherwise and sell a bigger machine with a bigger promise. We would rather tell you what actually happens to scent in a house with a staircase and closed doors, because that is what actually determines whether your guests notice it working.
Quick answers — read this first
Can one scent machine fragrance an entire multi-storey villa? Mostly no, and this is the one place we will be direct about it rather than stretch a sale across a house. Scent does not reliably travel up a staircase and through closed bedroom doors, and guests close bedroom doors - so a machine on the ground floor holds the ground floor, not the bedrooms above it. The honest plan is one machine per floor or per genuinely connected zone: one SOSA Vaayu or Angaan for the ground-floor living area, and a reed (from ₹749) in every bedroom upstairs, run lighter. Alternatively, accept that the ground floor carries the property's fragrance identity and the upper floors are handled separately with reeds.

Why doesn't fragrance travel up a staircase to the bedrooms? Because a staircase is an open, gradually cooling column of air, not a sealed duct, and a closed bedroom door at the top of it blocks almost all of whatever faint trace does rise. Diffused fragrance is carried by airflow, and most villas do not have strong, continuous airflow driving scent from the ground floor up a staircase and under a closed door into a bedroom - so even a machine well within its rated coverage on paper will not reliably reach a room two floors up with a door shut.

Is it dishonest to sell a homeowner one machine for a whole multi-storey villa? It would be, if the claim were that one machine reaches every floor - and that is exactly the claim we will not make. The honest version is that one machine covers the floor or zone it is actually on, which is still real value: the ground floor, where guests spend most of their time and form their first impression, gets consistent, well-run fragrance, and bedrooms get their own lighter, appropriate treatment with reeds instead of a false promise of whole-house coverage from one unit.
The short answer
Short answer: mostly no. Scent does not reliably travel up a staircase and through closed bedroom doors, and guests close bedroom doors - one SOSA Vaayu or Angaan holds the floor it is on, not the whole villa. The honest plan is one machine per floor or per genuinely connected zone: one machine (₹11,999-₹25,999) for the ground-floor living area, and a reed (from ₹749) in every bedroom upstairs, run lighter. We do not stretch one machine across a house to make a sale.
The pick: one SOSA Vaayu or SOSA Angaan for the ground-floor living area, and a reed in every bedroom upstairs - never one machine claimed to cover every floor.
Next step: send the floor-by-floor layout and we will write an honest, per-floor plan - ask for a villa scenting plan.

The honest answer to whether one machine covers a multi-storey villa is mostly no - and we would rather say that plainly than stretch a sale across a house.
The shortlist for a multi-storey villa
Straight answer
Can one scent machine really fragrance a whole multi-storey villa?
Say it plainly first: mostly no. A multi-storey villa is not one air space, and treating it as one is the single most common oversell in this category. Here is the mechanism, because the "why" matters more than the rule. Diffused fragrance moves with the airflow already present in a space - it does not travel purposefully upward on its own. A ground-floor machine, however well rated, is working with the air currents of the room it sits in and whatever connects to that room without a barrier. A staircase is a partial barrier: it is open, but it is also a narrow, vertical, gradually cooling column that most homes do not drive strong continuous airflow through. Whatever faint trace of fragrance does rise a staircase meets its real obstacle at the top: a closed bedroom door. And bedroom doors in a villa full of guests are closed - for privacy, for the AC, for sleep - reliably and constantly. A machine on the ground floor was never going to overcome both of those barriers to reach a bedroom two floors up with the door shut, no matter how large its stated coverage rating is on paper, because that rating describes an open, connected volume, and a multi-storey villa with closed doors is not one. So what is the honest plan? Two versions, and either is genuinely defensible. Plan per floor: one machine for each floor's own connected living space - the ground-floor living-dining-kitchen on one SOSA Vaayu or SOSA Angaan depending on its size, and if an upper floor has its own significant shared space (a landing lounge, a rooftop deck), that gets its own machine too, sized to its own volume - never assumed to be reached by the machine downstairs. Or accept the simpler version: the ground floor carries the property's fragrance identity, since it is where guests spend their time and form their first impression, and every bedroom on every floor gets an alcohol-free reed instead - passive, no power, needing no schedule, and genuinely well suited to a room a guest sleeps in behind a closed door. Either plan is honest. What is not honest is one machine, marketed as covering "the whole villa," installed once on the ground floor and left to fail quietly at reaching the bedrooms - a guest who never smells anything upstairs, or worse, smells the machine's tank running dry because it was asked to cover three times the volume it was ever rated for. This is different from an open, connected ground floor, which genuinely is one air space and does deserve one correctly sized machine rather than several small ones scattered through it - that is a separate question, covered elsewhere, and should not be confused with the multi-storey question here. Bedrooms, wherever they sit in the plan, always run lighter than the living area, with at least one left light or unscented, because a guest with a fragrance sensitivity cannot leave the property for three nights. And the one thing we will not do, on this page more than any other in the cluster, is stretch one machine's claimed coverage across a house to close a sale - the honest floor-by-floor plan costs the same or less, and it is the version that actually works when a guest walks up the stairs. Ask for a villa scenting plan and we will write the honest plan for your specific floors.

One machine per floor, or per genuinely connected zone

The honest specification for a multi-storey villa is per floor, not per villa - this is the whole point of the page.

SOSA Vaayu
The machine for the floor it actually sits on
SOSA Vaayu Waterless Diffuser
1000m³ coverage, 400ml tank lasting up to 75 days, Bluetooth app with 1h/4h/8h/24h on-site timers, adjustable intensity, under 38dB, auto-stop and key-lock. CE, RoHS and SGS certified. Made in India.

Why the honest answer is mostly no

Three honest reasons one machine does not cover a multi-storey villa, and the plan that actually works instead.

1
A staircase is not a sealed duct
Airflow, not intention, carries diffused fragrance
Diffused fragrance moves with a space's existing airflow, and a staircase is an open but narrow, vertical column that most homes do not drive strong continuous airflow through. Whatever fragrance a ground-floor machine releases mostly stays in the connected volume it was rated for - the living-dining-kitchen area it sits in - rather than travelling purposefully upward. A machine's rated coverage in m³ describes one connected air space, and a staircase leading to a closed door upstairs is not part of that space.
Tip: rated coverage assumes connected air - a staircase and a closed door break that connection.
SOSA Vaayu
A Vaayu holds the connected volume it is placed in - reliably, and honestly.
See SOSA Vaayu →
2
Guests close bedroom doors, without exception
The final barrier, and the one that settles it
Even in the rare case where some trace of fragrance does rise a staircase, a closed bedroom door stops nearly all of it - and bedroom doors in a villa full of guests are closed constantly, for privacy, for the AC, for sleep. This is not a design flaw to work around; it is simply how a bedroom is used, and it means a ground-floor machine was never going to reliably scent a room behind a shut door two floors up, whatever its coverage rating claims on the box.
Mountain Breeze reed
A reed, inside the room itself, does not depend on a door staying open.
See Mountain Breeze reed →
3
The honest plan: per floor, or per zone
Ground floor carries the identity; bedrooms get reeds
Two versions of the honest plan both work. Plan per floor: a machine sized to each floor's own connected living space, never assumed to reach the floor above. Or the simpler version: the ground floor carries the property's fragrance identity, since guests spend most of their time there and form their first impression on arrival, and every bedroom on every floor gets its own reed instead - lighter, passive, and genuinely appropriate for a room used the way a bedroom is used.
Tip: do not stretch one machine's claimed coverage across a house to make a sale - the honest floor-by-floor plan is the one that actually works.
SOSA Vaayu
Size each floor's machine to that floor alone, whichever version of the plan you choose.

The SOSA principle
The most honest thing we can say about a multi-storey villa is also the simplest: one machine holds the floor it is on, and nothing above it.
We would rather tell you that plainly than stretch one machine's claimed coverage across a staircase and a closed door to make a sale.
SOSA Vaayu
The ground-floor living area, its own machine: SOSA Vaayu, 1000m³ coverage, sized to this floor alone. Waterless, under 38dB. ₹11,999.

The plan that actually works, floor by floor

Once the honest limits are accepted, the plan for a multi-storey villa is short and it works. Here it is in one table.

The SOSA plan
The honest multi-storey villa plan
The floor or zone What it needs
SOSA VaayuThe ground-floor living-dining-kitchen area
One SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) or Angaan, sized to this floor's own connected volume. View →
Mountain Breeze reedEvery bedroom, on every floor, always
One reed (from ₹749) per room, run lighter, with at least one bedroom left unscented. View →
SOSA AngaanAn upper floor with its own significant shared space
Its own machine, sized to that space alone - never assumed to be reached from downstairs. View →
SOSA VaayuAny period with balcony or pool doors open on any floor
No change in setting - run each floor's machine on a schedule tied to the house being closed. View →

Two pages take this further. For the genuinely different question of one open connected floor, one large scent machine vs multiple smaller diffusers for a luxury villa covers when fewer, larger machines are correct. And for the full method behind sizing any floor honestly, square footage, ceiling height, floors, open doors and air conditioning is the reference guide.

Mountain Breeze reed
Every bedroom upstairs, on reeds: An alcohol-free reed from ₹749 per room, the honest answer behind a closed door. Lighter than the living area.

A multi-storey villa is not one air space. We would rather say that plainly than stretch one machine's claimed coverage across a staircase to make a sale.

How we plan a multi-storey villa: we ask for the floor-by-floor layout and size each floor's own machine to its own volume, and we do not claim a ground-floor unit reaches upstairs bedrooms, because it reliably does not. Fragrance still works alongside good housekeeping, never instead of it. This is about honest, reliable coverage, not a claim about reviews, occupancy or nightly rate. A note from Sonal

This is the question I answer most carefully, because it is the one place a dishonest answer would sell the biggest machine. Owners ask if one unit can cover their whole multi-storey villa, and the truthful answer, most of the time, is no - and I would rather tell you that plainly than sell you a bigger promise.

Scent moves with a room's own airflow, and a staircase leading to a closed bedroom door is not part of the connected air a machine downstairs is rated for. Guests close bedroom doors - reliably, for the AC, for privacy - and that stops almost everything a ground-floor Vaayu or Angaan would otherwise send upward. So the honest plan is per floor: the ground-floor living area gets its own machine, sized to itself, and every bedroom on every floor gets its own reed instead - which was always the right, lighter choice for a bedroom regardless.

I will not stretch one machine's coverage claim across a staircase to close a sale, and I will not tell you the honest per-floor plan improves your reviews or your bookings either - we do not know that to be true and will not invent a figure to suggest it. What I do know is that the ground floor, where a guest spends most of their time, deserves a machine that is actually sized to it, and the bedrooms deserve a reed rather than a false promise. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

Can one scent machine fragrance an entire multi-storey villa?
Mostly no. Scent does not reliably travel up a staircase and through closed bedroom doors, and guests close bedroom doors, so a machine on one floor holds that floor, not the floors above it. The honest plan is one machine per floor or per genuinely connected zone - one SOSA Vaayu or Angaan for the ground-floor living area, and a reed from Rs 749 in every bedroom upstairs, run lighter.
Why doesn't fragrance from a ground-floor machine reach upstairs bedrooms?
Because diffused fragrance moves with a space's existing airflow, and a staircase is an open but narrow column most homes do not drive strong continuous airflow through. Even what little trace does rise meets a closed bedroom door at the top, which stops nearly all of it - and bedroom doors are closed constantly for privacy, the AC and sleep.
What is the honest scenting plan for a multi-storey villa?
One machine sized to each floor's own connected living space, never assumed to reach the floor above - or the simpler version, where the ground floor carries the property's fragrance identity and every bedroom on every floor gets its own reed instead, run lighter than the living area.
Is it wrong to sell a homeowner one machine claiming it covers a whole multi-storey villa?
Yes, if the claim is that it reaches every floor - that is not reliably true, and we will not make that claim. One machine genuinely covers the floor or zone it sits on, which is real value; claiming more than that oversells the coverage.
Does an honest per-floor scenting plan improve reviews or occupancy?
No, and we will not claim it does. There is no honest basis for saying fragrance improves reviews, ratings, bookings, occupancy or nightly rate, and we invent no statistic to suggest one. The honest reason for a per-floor plan is that it actually works, floor by floor, rather than failing quietly upstairs.

Facts verified 24 August 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with a 400ml refillable tank lasting up to about 75 days, Bluetooth app scheduling, adjustable intensity, operation under 38dB. The SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) is an HVAC nebulising diffuser rated to 3,000m³, roughly 8,000-10,000 sq ft, with an 800ml reservoir, metal body, programmable schedules and operation under 42dB. A SOSA reed diffuser (from ₹749 for 50ml) is alcohol-free, passive, needs no power, and lasts 6-8 weeks per fill. Coverage ratings for either machine describe one connected air volume and do not represent scent travelling reliably between floors separated by a staircase and closed doors.
