Same bottle, same Safar speed, two rows giving two different answers, and the only thing anyone changed was the rear fan. It is not a nuisance to be smoothed away. It is a variable, and it belongs in your notes.
Quick answers — read this first
Can rear fan speed alone change how it feels? Yes. The rear fan sets how much air moves through the second and third rows and how hard it arrives, and a fragrance is carried by that air. The same Safar setting can therefore feel different to each row with nothing else changed.

Does it affect rows two and three equally? Not necessarily. The two rows sit at different distances along the same stream, so one fan step can change the second row more or less than the third. Which is affected more depends on where your outlets are.

What should I actually do about it? Record it. Write the rear fan step beside the Safar speed, the rows occupied and who judged. Hold it still for a journey, change one thing at a time, and compare like with like.
The short answer
Short answer: Yes. Rear fan speed alone can make one setting feel different to the second and third rows. Treat it as a variable to record, not a nuisance to ignore.
The pick: SOSA Safar at ₹3,999, whose three fixed speeds and one, two or three-hour timer are easy to record and repeat, plus a mild hanging variant from ₹479 for a row that stays quiet.
Next step: Tell us how your rear fan is labelled, which rows are occupied and what each says. Ask for a car fragrance recommendation.

What the rear fan changes, and what to write down beside it. The fragrance setting is one column in your notes and the fan step is another. Without both, a change in the second row is only a story.
Straight answer
Can Changing Rear Fan Speed Make the Same Waterless Fragrance Setting Feel Different to Second- and Third-Row Passengers?
Yes. The rear fan decides how much air moves through the second and third rows and how it arrives, and a fragrance is carried by that air. So the same setting can feel different to each row. Here is why, and how to turn it into something you can use.

1. The rear fan changes the air, and the air carries the fragrance. Volume and force both move with the fan step. The Safar setting is unchanged; what reaches each row is not.

2. The two rows are not changed equally. They sit at different distances along the same stream, so one fan step can move the second row more or less than the third. Which one depends on where your outlets are.

3. So fan speed is a variable, not a nuisance. A nuisance is something you hope will cancel out. A variable is something you write down, because it explains the very difference you are trying to understand.

4. Record it beside the Safar speed. Rear fan step, speed, timer, rows occupied, who judged, what changed since the last journey. Six short items, written parked, make the next journey readable.

5. Hold it still, then change one thing. Pick a rear fan step before the journey and keep it. If the rows disagree, change either the fan or SOSA Safar, never both at once, and only parked.

A variable you do not write down becomes a mystery you pay for. The second row says the same setting is stronger, you turn it down, and a week later the real cause is a fan step nobody noted.
Yes. Rear fan speed alone can make one setting feel different to the second and third rows, so record it beside the SOSA Safar speed instead of treating it as a nuisance.
If you want a source with steps you can write down and repeat, that is SOSA Safar at ₹3,999: three speed settings and a one, two or three-hour auto-off timer, fully cordless on a 2000 mAh Type-C battery, up to ten hours continuous or thirty hours intermittent per charge. About nine centimetres tall. Cold diffusion of pure undiluted oil: no water, no heat, no residue.

The products, and where each one sits

Two of these matter when the rear fan is part of the picture. One has fixed steps that are easy to record and repeat; the other is a small source for a row that stays quiet whatever the fan does. Nothing is sized to a cabin, because SOSA publishes no cabin figure for Safar and this page will not invent one.

The one with steps you can record and repeat
SOSA Safar
₹3,999 for SOSA naturals trio, ₹4,499 for hotel-inspired trio. Three speed settings from light to intense and a one, two or three-hour auto-off timer. Fully cordless on a 2000 mAh Type-C battery, up to ten hours continuous or thirty intermittent per charge. Cold diffusion of pure undiluted oil, no water, no heat, no residue. About nine centimetres, cup-holder sized. Aroma only; it does not humidify.

A small source for the row that stays quiet
SOSA Sandalwood Car Freshener
₹479 for hanging 12 ml, ₹479 for car perfume spray, ₹1,499 for 50 ml car perfume spray. One product, three variants: a 12 ml hanging freshener with a mild scent-throw, a car perfume spray with a strong scent-throw, and a 50 ml spray. If one row is still the quiet one at every rear fan step you have recorded, the mild hanging variant lifts that row alone.

What Safar runs on, and why a recorded setting saves oil
SOSA Waterless Nebuliser Refills
₹1,049 for 100 g, ₹1,849 for 300 g. Pure, undiluted, water-free oil engineered for cold-air nebulisers, in sixteen scents, seven hotel-inspired and nine SOSA naturals, shared with the SOSA Vaayu. Refill life depends on the speed setting and the hours run. A setting you have written down is one you can keep, rather than keep nudging, and an owner who stops nudging spends less oil. Sold in 100 g and 300 g.

Three reasons to record the fan

The first explains why the fan matters, the second why it matters unevenly, and the third why writing it down is most of the remedy. None of them needs a product.

1
One
The rear fan is a dial on the air, so it is a dial on the fragrance
It is easy to think of the fragrance setting as the only control in the vehicle that affects how a scent feels. It is not. The rear fan decides how much air moves through the back and how hard it arrives, and a fragrance is carried by that air. A higher rear step puts more air past the second and third rows, a lower one puts less, and a scent in more moving air is delivered differently from a scent in less. So when two people report that the same Safar speed felt different on two journeys, the first question is not whether the product changed. It is what the rear fan was set to each time, and whether anyone wrote it down. Most of the time nobody did.
Tip: Write the rear fan step down before every journey, using whatever your vehicle calls its steps.
Safar has three speed settings and a one, two or three-hour timer, which makes it easy to record. SOSA Safar gives you one fixed column for your notes; the fan gives you the other.
See SOSA Safar →
2
Two
Rows two and three sit at different points on one stream
The second row is nearer the rear outlets, or nearer the stream of air coming back from the front, depending on the vehicle. The third row is further along. When the rear fan changes, the stream changes everywhere, but not by the same amount in both places, and not necessarily in the same direction. A step up may sharpen the scent for one row and thin it for the other, because more moving air can carry a scent past the nose and can also displace the still air that held it. Which row notices more depends on where your outlets are, and I cannot tell you from here. What I can tell you is that if you ask only one row you will mistake one row's answer for the vehicle's.
Tip: Ask both rows the same question at the same fan step, and write both answers down side by side.
If one row stays the quiet one at every fan step you have recorded, a mild hanging variant from ₹479 gives it a small source without moving the other row's experience.

Three
A variable you do not write down becomes a mystery you pay for
Here is how it usually goes wrong. The second row says the fragrance seems stronger. Nobody remembers touching anything, so the setting on the machine is turned down. A week later the third row says it has gone faint, and the setting is turned up. The real cause in both cases was a rear fan step that somebody changed for comfort and nobody noted. Each correction answered the wrong question, and each spent a little oil and a little goodwill. A short record would have paid for itself the first time: fan step beside speed setting, rows occupied, who was asked. It takes less time than the correction, and it is the only thing that lets the next answer be right.
Tip: Treat the record as a habit, not a project. Six short items, written parked, before the journey.
A steady, recorded setting is usually a lower one, and a lower one lasts longer. SOSA Waterless Nebuliser Refills are ₹1,049 for 100 g, ₹1,849 for 300 g.
See SOSA Waterless Nebuliser Refills →
The SOSA principle
Rear fan speed is not noise around the fragrance. It is one of the two controls that decide what each of the back rows is given, and it is the one most owners have never written down.
Which is why the useful question is not whether the setting feels different to the second and third rows. It is what the rear fan was doing when each row was asked.

What to write down

This is a protocol, not a result. It is a record sheet in prose: what to write down for each journey, and why each item earns its place, so that your own notes can answer the question for your own vehicle.

The SOSA record sheet
Four things to record on every journey, and why each earns its place
What to record Why it earns its place, and how to hold it
The rear fan step, in your vehicle's own labels
It decides how much air moves through rows two and three. Pick a step parked, before the journey, and keep it for the whole journey so it stays a constant.
The Safar speed and timer, as one, two or three
The other column. Record the speed and the timer, and change only one of the two columns between journeys, never both. View →
Which rows are occupied, and who is asked
A row that is empty or full changes the air. Ask the freshest passenger in each row the same question, once the fan has settled.
What changed since the last journey, however small
Parking, route, fan step, a source moved or refilled. One change at a time keeps the comparison honest, and this line shows when it was not. View →

A record sheet is not a laboratory, and the point of it is the habit more than any single entry. Read why third-row passengers notice a change once the rear ventilation comes on for the other half of the rear air, then why maximum fan on first start is the wrong moment to judge distribution for the fan at its most extreme. For the larger version of this sheet, whether fragrance testing should record AC mode, fan speed and occupied rows sets out the design. If you would rather describe your own vehicle, tell us how your rear fan is labelled and which rows are occupied.

Fan speed is not a nuisance to smooth away. It is a variable, and a variable you write down is the difference between a mystery and an answer.

The SOSA specification for rows two and three

Three jobs. One source whose steps you can record and repeat, one small source for a row that stays quiet, and the oil that keeps a steady setting going. No cabin size appears in this table, because SOSA publishes none for Safar.

Two of these three rows are optional and the first step, writing the rear fan step beside the setting, is free. Start there. If you do buy, Safar is ₹3,999 for SOSA naturals trio, ₹4,499 for hotel-inspired trio and what you are buying is control, three speeds and a timer, not reach, because SOSA publishes no cabin figure for it and nobody should give you one. It is aroma only and does not humidify; it does not dehumidify, dry a cabin or do anything about damp either, and if your vehicle smells damp the order is to find the wet thing, get air through it, and let a professional look at a soaked carpet. If the rear fan or the vehicle's own air-conditioning seems to behave oddly, a qualified technician is the person to look at it. A mild hanging variant runs from ₹449 to ₹509 depending on the scent, and 15 ml refills are ₹399 for 15 ml, Lemon or Jasmine, ₹429 for 15 ml, Sandalwood, Lavender or Icy Mint. SOSA is not affiliated with any vehicle manufacturer and makes no health, wellbeing or driving-related claim of any kind. Settings are changed parked. A note from Sonal

I used to think of fan speed as weather: something that happened to the vehicle, varied with the day and got in the way of the thing I actually cared about, which was the fragrance. If two rows disagreed I assumed the fan was muddying the water and tried to wait it out. It took me a surprisingly long time to see that I had the relationship the wrong way round. The fan was not muddying the water. It was part of the water.

What changed my mind was how often a puzzling report turned out to have a boring explanation. A second row that thought the fragrance stronger, a third row that thought it fainter, and nobody could say why. When I asked what the rear fan had been set to on each journey, the answer was almost always that somebody had adjusted it for comfort and nobody had written it down. I now ask every family to keep a short note. It is the most useful piece of homework I give anyone.

Safar helps here because it gives you something fixed to write beside the fan. It has three speed settings and a one, two or three-hour auto-off timer, and it is cordless, so you can move it, parked, and note where it sat. I have no published figure for its reach and I will not improvise one. A portion of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

Can rear fan speed really change how one setting feels?
Yes. The rear fan sets how much air moves through the second and third rows and how hard it arrives, and a fragrance is carried by that air. The Safar setting stays the same, but what each row is given does not. That is enough for the same setting to feel different without the product changing at all.
Does a higher rear fan always make it stronger?
No, and I would distrust anyone who said it did. More moving air can carry a scent past the nose more vividly, and it can also displace the still air that was holding it, so the scent seems to thin. Which one you get depends on the vehicle, the outlets and the row. That is exactly why the fan step belongs in your notes rather than in a rule.
What exactly should I write down each time?
Six short items: the rear fan step in your vehicle's own labels, the Safar speed, the timer, which rows are occupied, who judged each row and what changed since the last journey. Write them parked, before you set off. It takes a moment, and it is what turns a puzzling report into one you can explain.
Should I set the rear fan to suit the fragrance?
No. The fan is for comfort and it is the vehicle's own control. All this page asks is that whatever step is used gets written down, so the fragrance can be understood against it. If the air-conditioning itself seems to behave oddly, a qualified technician is the person to look at it.
Can I change Safar's setting while the vehicle is moving?
Please don't. Settings are changed parked, with the handbrake on. If a row says something halfway through, note it, with the fan step, and act at the next stop. Change one thing, then judge it once the air has settled. A single parked change is readable; two at once never are.
