Founder Diaries · Attars & Perfume Oils
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 9 min read Updated 2026
Let me be honest with you up front, because that is how I run SOSA: we do not currently make a dedicated musk attar. But the reason people search for an 'intimate musk' is almost always the
effect - a soft, warm, skin-like scent that stays close and feels like a second skin. That effect is exactly what
Adaa and
Mastani deliver, and I'd rather point you honestly to those than sell you a musk we don't have.
Quick answers — read this first
Does SOSA make a musk attar? Not a dedicated one, and I won't pretend otherwise. What people want from an intimate musk - a soft, close, skin-like warmth - is what Adaa and Mastani give you through their close-wearing oil character.
What is the 'intimate' quality people love in musk? A scent that seems to merge with your own skin: warm, quiet, and only really noticeable up close. A concentrated close-to-skin oil creates that same second-skin intimacy.
Which SOSA attar comes closest to that feeling? Mastani (from ₹389) for a soft, warm floral that hugs the skin; Adaa (from ₹379) for a cleaner, fresher intimacy. Both wear like a second skin.
The short answer
Short answer: SOSA does not make a dedicated musk attar - I'd rather tell you plainly than invent one. But the intimate, skin-like warmth people seek from musk is best matched by
Mastani (from ₹389), a soft night floral that hugs the skin, or
Adaa (from ₹379) for a fresher second-skin effect.
Best pick: for longevity and projection, the
Nawaab attar (oud & saffron, from ₹399); for a fresh, subtle daily signature,
Adaa (from ₹379). Every attar is a 3/6/12ML roll-on.

Straight answer
Which SOSA attar gives me that intimate, skin-like musk feeling?
Understand what you're really after. 'Intimate musk' usually means a warm, soft, close-to-skin scent that feels like your own skin, better - not a specific note so much as a behaviour.
Choose Mastani (from ₹389) for warmth. Its night jasmine and damask rose settle into a soft, skin-close drydown that reads as quiet and intimate, close to the musk effect people describe.
Or Adaa (from ₹379) for a cleaner take. Fresh and light, it wears like clean skin - the freshest route to that second-skin intimacy without any heaviness.
Made in India; a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
We don't sell a musk attar, so I won't route you to one. What you actually want - close, warm, second-skin intimacy - is what our close-wearing oils are built to do.
What people really mean by 'intimate musk'
1
The real request
It's about closeness, not a note
SOSA Mastani · Jasmine & RoseFrom ₹389 When people ask for an intimate musk, they rarely want a specific molecule - they want a scent that sits right against the skin and feels personal. That is a behaviour, and it's the defining behaviour of a concentrated oil.
Mastani delivers it through a soft floral rather than a musk, but the intimate, skin-close result is the same one you're picturing.
2
The honest match
Soft floral or clean fresh
SOSA Adaa · Bergamot & JasmineFrom ₹379 For warmth and softness,
Mastani's night florals dry down close and quiet. For a cleaner, cooler 'just-washed skin' intimacy,
Adaa is the one. Neither is a musk, but both give you the second-skin effect that draws people to musk in the first place - and I'd rather you know exactly what you're getting.
Tip: Apply to the neck and inner wrists and let it warm for ten minutes - the drydown is where the skin-like intimacy really shows.
3
If you want more depth
A light touch of Nawaab
SOSA Nawaab · White Oud & SaffronFrom ₹399 If your idea of intimate leans warmer and deeper, a single light swipe of
Nawaab (white oud & saffron) worn close gives a rich, resinous warmth that stays personal when applied sparingly. It's the most sensual of the range - just wear a little, so it stays intimate rather than projecting.
Maximum longevity & projection SOSA Nawaab From ₹399 Nawaab (White Oud & Saffron) is the powerhouse of the range - a deep, resinous oud-saffron base that holds on skin for hours and projects for the first stretch of an evening. If longevity and presence are your priority, start here. Sizes 3ML (₹399), 6ML (₹699), 12ML (₹1,199). See Nawaab →
Why I won't invent a musk for you
I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles, and the one rule I brought back and never broke is that you describe a fragrance by what it actually is. It would be easy to relabel one of our oils a 'musk' because the word sells - but you would open the bottle, find a jasmine or a bergamot, and rightly never trust me again.
So here is the truth: SOSA's range is oud-saffron (Nawaab), rose-sandalwood (Ameeri), night jasmine-rose (Mastani) and bergamot-cardamom-jasmine (Adaa). No dedicated musk. What we do have is the close-to-skin, second-skin intimacy that people chase musk for - and Mastani and Adaa give you that honestly.
If a true, prominent musk is non-negotiable for you, I'd rather you buy elsewhere and keep your trust in me for the day it matters. But if what you actually want is that warm, quiet, up-close feeling, try Mastani first - I think it will surprise you.
Match it to what you want
Loud and long, warm and rich, or fresh and quiet
The SOSA principle
The most intimate thing a fragrance can do is feel like it was always part of your skin. You reach that through closeness and warmth, not necessarily through a note labelled musk.
Which is why I point people to Mastani and Adaa, honestly, instead of to a musk we don't make.
Fresh, subtle & office-friendly SOSA Adaa From ₹379 Adaa (Bergamot + Cardamom + Jasmine Sambac) is the daytime-grace choice - clean, fresh, and sitting close to the skin, so it lasts without filling a shared room. The right pick for AC offices, hot-humid days and anyone who prefers a quiet signature. Sizes 3ML (₹379), 6ML (₹669), 12ML (₹1,149). See Adaa →
I would rather lose a sale than describe a bottle as something it isn't. That is the whole point of a founder's name on the label.

Which attar to pick
The whole decision fits in one box: match the attar to the performance you actually want - longevity and projection, warm richness, a quiet floral, or hot-weather freshness - and remember an oil rewards you most on well-moisturised pulse points. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

How to read this box: attars are concentrated perfume oils, so as a family they wear
longer and closer to the skin than alcohol sprays - you trade some room-filling projection for longevity and a refined, intimate trail. For the most presence,
Nawaab (oud & saffron) projects hardest and lasts longest; for a clean daytime signature that won't overwhelm a shared cabin,
Adaa is the pick. Every attar comes as a 3ML pocket roll-on (from ₹379) that's effortless to reapply, plus 6ML and 12ML. Scent behaves differently on every person and in every climate, so give it ten minutes on your skin before you judge it, and layer on pulse points for more strength. Everything is made in India; a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Why a roll-on oil Long wear, easy reapply From ₹379 An attar is concentrated perfume oil: it wears longer and closer to the skin than an alcohol spray, and the roll-on format is spill-proof and pocketable - the 3ML slips into a bag for touch-ups. Oils lean toward longevity and intimacy over big room-filling projection; for maximum projection, layer or choose the deeper Nawaab. Shop the range →
A note from Sonal
Everything is made and supported from Pune, and a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. You get a fragrance that lasts; a girl gets a classroom. That equation has always felt right to me.
Frequently asked questions
So there's genuinely no musk attar at SOSA?
Correct, and I won't pretend there is. Our four attars are oud-saffron, rose-sandalwood, night jasmine-rose and bergamot-cardamom-jasmine. For the intimate, skin-close feeling of a musk, Mastani or Adaa are the honest matches.
Which of the two is warmer?
Mastani. Its night florals dry down soft and warm against the skin. Adaa is fresher and cooler - a cleaner kind of intimacy.
Can I layer to get closer to a musk feel?
Yes - a swipe of Mastani on the neck with Adaa on the wrists gives a warm-and-fresh skin scent that reads very intimate. It's the closest layering trick I'd recommend.
Will you ever make a musk?
Possibly - I formulate for what people in India actually reach for. If enough of you ask honestly, it's exactly the kind of thing I'd develop and describe truthfully.

Editorial standards & sources
About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Fragrance performance - longevity, projection and sillage - depends on the perfume, but also on your skin type, body chemistry, the weather and how much you apply, so descriptions here are honest guidance, not guarantees. Attars are concentrated perfume oils: they generally wear longer and closer to the skin than alcohol-based EDPs, trading some projection for longevity and intimacy. Always test on skin and give a fragrance ten minutes to settle before judging it; patch-test if you have sensitive skin, and keep oils away from the eyes.
