Is the room dry, or does it ever smell musty?
This is the question that decides ultrasonic versus waterless
An ultrasonic diffuser works by misting water, so it adds humidity to the room it is in. In a dry bedroom that is harmless and sometimes pleasant. In a room that has ever smelled musty, in a monsoon city, in a ground-floor flat with seepage history or in a closed-up second home, it is the wrong tool, because damp is what makes a musty room musty and you would be adding more of it. There the waterless nebuliser is the correct choice on technical grounds, not commercial ones - and if a room is actively damp, dry it out and find the moisture before you scent anything at all.
