This is the last article in the cluster and the most direct: tell me where you live and I will tell you which of my four attars to buy and how much of it to wear. Region by region, with doses.
Quick answers — read this first
What if I live in the north?Adaa from March to September, Nawaab from October to February. This is the one climate where two bottles is honest advice.
What about the coast?Adaa in 12ml, at one dab, all year. Skip the wardrobe - your winter never arrives.
And the hills?Nawaab at three dabs on moisturised skin. The one region where the deep bottle earns daily wear.
The short answer
Two variables decide almost everything. How dry the composition is, and how much you apply. Dry clears every Indian condition; dose moves opposite to temperature.
The non-negotiable. An oil base rather than alcohol. It behaves on sweating skin, damp skin and cracked winter skin alike. Every SOSA attar is alcohol-free and DPG-free.
SOSA in one line. Alcohol-free, DPG-free, IFRA-compliant attars on a jojoba and Mysore sandalwood base, 6-8 hours on skin, 3ml / 6ml / 12ml, ₹379-₹1,199, hand-blended in Pune.
Start here.Adaa 3ml at ₹379 is the safest first purchase in almost any Indian climate - and cheap enough that being wrong costs very little.
Illustrative only. Almost every 'which should I buy' question in Indian fragrance resolves to the same two variables: how dry the composition is, and how much of it you apply.
So which SOSA attar should you buy based on where you live?
North India (Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Chandigarh): Adaa March-September, Nawaab October-February. Two bottles, honestly. Coastal and southern (Mumbai, Chennai, Kochi, Goa): Adaa in 12ml, one dab, all year. Mild inland (Bangalore, Pune, Mysore): Adaa in 12ml; add Ameeri if you like warmth. Kolkata and the north-east: Adaa at one dab - heat and humidity stack and the lightest bottle wins. The hills (Shimla, Dehradun, Srinagar): Nawaab at three dabs on moisturised skin. Everywhere: Ameeri for functions, Mastani for evenings.
Short version: north: two bottles. Coast and south: one, in the 12ml. Hills: the deep one, at three dabs.
The default answer:Adaa, 3ml, ₹379 - correct in every region on this list.
Five regions, and the honest recommendation for each. Where two bottles is the right answer I say so; where one is enough I say that too.
How to answer any of these questions
Almost every which attar should I buy question resolves to two variables: how dry the composition is, and how much you apply. Dry compositions clear all three Indian conditions; sweet ones are seasonal. Dose moves opposite to temperature.
1
Criterion one
North India — two bottles
Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad. Forty-five degrees in May and single digits in January is a wider range than most of the world, and it is the one Indian climate where a seasonal pair is genuinely justified. Adaa at one dab March to September; Nawaab at two or three from October, on moisturised skin. Ameeri through wedding season.
2
Criterion two
Coastal and southern — one bottle, 12ml
Mumbai, Chennai, Kochi, Goa, coastal Karnataka. Humid nearly all year, so your deep winter bottle never gets its season. Adaa in 12ml at one dab, every day - dry, sugar-free and unbothered by wet air. Add Mastani for evenings if you go out often. Skip the wardrobe; it will not get worn.
Bangalore, Pune, Mysore, Hyderabad. The easiest fragrance climates in India. Almost anything works, which means you can choose by taste rather than by constraint. Adaa in 12ml as a daily; Ameeri if you would rather your everyday were warm. The deep bottle remains an evening pleasure.
4
Criterion four
Kolkata and the north-east — the lightest thing you own
Kolkata, Guwahati, Bhubaneswar. Heat and humidity stack here more than anywhere, so both amplification and persistence work against you. Adaa at one dab on genuinely dry skin, and resist the second dab. The cooler months from December open up Ameeri at two dabs.
5
Criterion five
The hills — the deep one, at three dabs
Shimla, Dehradun, Srinagar, Darjeeling, Gangtok. Cold and dry for much of the year means low projection and poor skin binding - so the biggest doses in the country and the one region where Nawaab earns daily wear. Three dabs on moisturised skin, and the 12ml makes sense.

Where SOSA sits - and where another attar might suit you better
This is the article I would have wanted when I started wearing fragrance in India, and it is the honest summary of everything else in this cluster.
The honest position
Two bottles in the north and the hills. One everywhere else.
Where I think we earn a place on your shortlist: a range that genuinely covers every region on this list, materials named so you can check the placement, and a 3ml at ₹379 that makes starting cheap. Where another house might suit you better: every region on this list has its own attar tradition, evolved in exactly that climate, and those are worth knowing wherever you end up buying.
Three things these buying questions usually get wrong
✕
"There is a right bottle for my situation." More often there is a right dose. Most situational problems are solved by applying less or more of what you already own.
✕
"Gender narrows the choice." It narrows it wrongly. Climate and dose decide how a fragrance behaves; the label on the box decides nothing at all.
✕
"Buying blind online is risky." Less so with an attar, because a 3ml costs ₹379 - reviews here are illustrative, not a guarantee, so test rather than trust them.
Find your region, take the dose, and start with a 3ml. Adaa is the default; Nawaab if you are in the north or the hills and it is October.
The SOSA attar range
Every attar comes in 3ml (₹379-₹399), 6ml (₹669-₹699) and 12ml (₹1,149-₹1,199), all alcohol-free, DPG-free and IFRA-compliant, 6-8 hours on skin, hand-blended in Pune.
Most of the questions I am asked have the same shape: here is my climate and my day, what should I buy? After a decade of answering them, I have come to think almost all of them resolve to two variables - how dry the composition is, and how much you apply.
Dry compositions clear all three of India's conditions: they do not swell in heat, hang in humidity, or fall apart in cold. Sweet ones are seasonal by nature - which is fine as long as you buy them knowing it. And dose moves opposite to temperature: less when it is hot, more when it is cold. That is genuinely most of it.
Everything I make is alcohol-free and DPG-free on a jojoba and Mysore sandalwood base, and every material is named on the listing so you can place it on that map yourself. If another house does the same and you prefer their composition, buy theirs.
Frequently asked questions
Does my city matter more than the season?
Often, yes. The difference between Delhi and Chennai on the same afternoon is larger than the difference between May and December in Bangalore. Choose for your climate, then adjust by month.
Which SOSA attar should I buy first?
Adaa in 3ml at ₹379 - bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk. It is the safest first purchase in almost any Indian climate and cheap enough that being wrong costs very little.
How do I decide how much to apply?
Dose moves opposite to temperature: one dab when it is hot, one or two in humidity, two or three when it is genuinely cold. Apply at the base of the throat on dry - or in winter, moisturised - skin.
Which size should I buy?
3ml (₹379-₹399) to discover, 6ml (₹669-₹699) for daily wear, 12ml (₹1,149-₹1,199) for best value at roughly half the per-ml cost of the 3ml.
Do SOSA attars contain alcohol?
No. Every SOSA attar is alcohol-free and DPG-free, carried on jojoba and Mysore sandalwood oil and formulated to IFRA levels - which is why it behaves on sweating, damp and cracked skin alike.
