Founder Diaries · Attars & Perfume Oils

Projection in an oil isn't random - it follows the fragrance family. Heavy, resinous families carry far; light, fresh ones stay close. If you understand which families project in attar form, you can predict how any oil will behave before you even test it. Here's how it works, mapped onto our range.
Quick answers — read this first
Which families project best as oils? Woody-oud, amber and rich orientals project best - their heavy molecules carry. Rose-oriental blends are next. Fresh citrus and aquatic families stay closest to the skin.
So oud is the projecting family? Yes - oud, saffron and amber are the heaviest, so they reach furthest in oil form. That's why Nawaab, an oud-saffron blend, is our strongest projector.
The short answer
Short answer: In attar form, the heaviest families project best: woody-oud and amber lead, which is why
Nawaab (oud & saffron) reaches furthest. Rose-oriental blends like
Ameeri are next. Floral and fresh-citrus families - Mastani and Adaa - sit closer to the skin by nature. Match the family to the reach you want.
Best pick: for longevity and projection, the
Nawaab attar (oud & saffron, from ₹399); for a fresh, subtle daily signature,
Adaa (from ₹379). Every attar is a 3/6/12ML roll-on.
Performance, honestly Concentrated oil attars - long wear and close-to-skin intimacy, in a roll-on you can reapply anywhere Shop attars · from ₹379
Straight answer
Which fragrance families project best when they're made as attars?
For maximum reach, go woody-oud or amber. These heavy, resinous families carry furthest in oil form. Nawaab (White Oud & Saffron) is our example, and the strongest projector we make (from ₹399).
For warm, medium reach, go rose-oriental. Rose paired with sandalwood or amber projects well without going heavy. Ameeri lives here - strong, warm, smooth (from ₹385).
For a close, intimate signature, go floral or fresh. Jasmine-rose florals (Mastani) and citrus-aromatic blends (Adaa) sit near the skin by design - lovely and long, but not projectors. Choose them when closeness is the goal.
Made in India; a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Best-projecting attar families: woody-oud & amber (Nawaab), then rose-oriental (Ameeri). Florals (Mastani) and fresh-citrus (Adaa) stay close by nature.
Why family predicts projection in an oil
1
Woody-oud & amber
The heavy families that carry
SOSA Nawaab · White Oud & SaffronFrom ₹399 Oud, saffron and amber are made of large, heavy molecules that release scent strongly and slowly - the recipe for projection and longevity both.
Nawaab sits squarely in this family, which is exactly why it's our strongest projector. If you want an oil that reaches, start with this family every time.
2
Rose-oriental
Warm reach without the weight
SOSA Ameeri · Rose & SandalwoodFrom ₹385 Rose blended with sandalwood or amber - the family
Ameeri belongs to - projects warmly and confidently, a step below full oud but well ahead of anything fresh. It's the sweet spot for people who want reach and richness without a heavy, resinous character. Strong, but rounded.
3
Floral & fresh-citrus
The close-to-skin families
SOSA Mastani · Jasmine & RoseFrom ₹389 Jasmine-rose florals like
Mastani and fresh citrus-aromatic blends like
Adaa are built from lighter, more volatile materials. In oil form they wear long and beautifully but stay close - they're intimacy families, not projection families. That's a feature when you want a personal, discovered-up-close scent.
Maximum longevity & projection SOSA Nawaab From ₹399 Nawaab (White Oud & Saffron) is the powerhouse of the range - a deep, resinous oud-saffron base that holds on skin for hours and projects for the first stretch of an evening. If longevity and presence are your priority, start here. Sizes 3ML (₹399), 6ML (₹699), 12ML (₹1,199). See Nawaab →

The SOSA principle
Tell me a fragrance's family and I can predict its projection before you spray it. Heavy resins reach; light florals and citruses stay near. It's that consistent.
Choosing by family is the shortcut to choosing by performance.
Fresh, subtle & office-friendly SOSA Adaa From ₹379 Adaa (Bergamot + Cardamom + Jasmine Sambac) is the daytime-grace choice - clean, fresh, and sitting close to the skin, so it lasts without filling a shared room. The right pick for AC offices, hot-humid days and anyone who prefers a quiet signature. Sizes 3ML (₹379), 6ML (₹669), 12ML (₹1,149). See Adaa →
Projection in an attar is written into the family. Oud carries, amber carries, rose warms the middle distance, and fresh florals reward the people who lean in.

Which attar to pick
The whole decision fits in one box: match the attar to the performance you actually want - longevity and projection, warm richness, a quiet floral, or hot-weather freshness - and remember an oil rewards you most on well-moisturised pulse points. How to read this box: attars are concentrated perfume oils, so as a family they wear
longer and closer to the skin than alcohol sprays - you trade some room-filling projection for longevity and a refined, intimate trail. For the most presence,
Nawaab (oud & saffron) projects hardest and lasts longest; for a clean daytime signature that won't overwhelm a shared cabin,
Adaa is the pick. Every attar comes as a 3ML pocket roll-on (from ₹379) that's effortless to reapply, plus 6ML and 12ML. Scent behaves differently on every person and in every climate, so give it ten minutes on your skin before you judge it, and layer on pulse points for more strength. Everything is made in India; a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Why a roll-on oil Long wear, easy reapply From ₹379 An attar is concentrated perfume oil: it wears longer and closer to the skin than an alcohol spray, and the roll-on format is spill-proof and pocketable - the 3ML slips into a bag for touch-ups. Oils lean toward longevity and intimacy over big room-filling projection; for maximum projection, layer or choose the deeper Nawaab. Shop the range →
A note from Sonal
Everything is made and supported from Pune, and a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. You get a fragrance that lasts; a girl gets a classroom. That equation has always felt right to me.
Frequently asked questions
Why does oud project more than jasmine as an oil?
Molecular weight. Oud and amber are heavy, slow-releasing materials that keep scenting the air for hours; jasmine and citrus are lighter and more volatile, so they bloom beautifully but stay near the skin. The family sets the ceiling on reach.
If I want projection, should I avoid florals entirely?
Not entirely - a rose-oriental like Ameeri projects well. But a pure fresh floral or citrus will always sit close. If reach is your priority, weight your choice toward the woody-oud and amber end of the map.
Can application change which family projects?
Application helps every family a little - pulse points, hair, layering - but it can't turn a fresh citrus into an oud. The family is the foundation; application is the fine-tuning on top of it.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Fragrance performance - longevity, projection and sillage - depends on the perfume, but also on your skin type, body chemistry, the weather and how much you apply, so descriptions here are honest guidance, not guarantees. Attars are concentrated perfume oils: they generally wear longer and closer to the skin than alcohol-based EDPs, trading some projection for longevity and intimacy. Always test on skin and give a fragrance ten minutes to settle before judging it; patch-test if you have sensitive skin, and keep oils away from the eyes.
