How do I know I have crossed the line? Strong scent near the machine, faint at the far wall, and adding drops only makes the near air heavier. That gradient is the tell.
What do I do once I have? Step up to the waterless Vaayu (₹11,999, up to 1000m³) — or, for two separate rooms, a Sukoon in each.
2. Subtract for open plans. An open span crosses the line well below 300 sq ft, because the mist has no walls to hold it.
3. Subtract for high ceilings. Double-height rooms have far more volume than floor area suggests, so they cross sooner too.
4. Run the three-second test. Strong near the machine, faint at the far wall, heavier-not-stronger with more drops — that is 'too large'.
5. Step up honestly. Past the line, the waterless Vaayu is the fix — or a Sukoon per room for genuinely separate rooms.

What actually sets the 'too large' line
Sukoon · the diffuser₹1,799 For a standard enclosed living room at a normal 9–10 ft ceiling, the honest limit of one Sukoon is around 300 sq ft. Up to ~250 it is comfortable; to ~300 it works with central placement and a fuller dose; past 300 the limited throw of ultrasonic mist means the far corners never quite catch up. That is the baseline number to remember — but it assumes the two conditions in the next cards hold. Change those, and the line moves in, sometimes sharply.
Vaayu · large room₹11,999 The single biggest factor is whether the space is enclosed. Walls and a door trap the mist and let it build to an even level; an open plan lets it dissipate before it crosses the span. So an open 250 sq ft can be too large while an enclosed 300 is fine. If your living room flows into dining or kitchen with no wall, treat it as too large for one ultrasonic unit almost regardless of the floor number — a Sukoon suits only an enclosed nook within it, and the whole open span is a Vaayu job.
Vaayu · large room₹11,999 An ultrasonic diffuser scents a volume, and volume is floor area times height. A double-height living room at 300 sq ft holds roughly twice the air of a normal-ceiling one, so it behaves like a much larger space — the mist has to fill up as well as out, and it cannot. High ceilings, mezzanines and open stairwells all push a room over the line at a lower floor area than you would expect. When the ceiling soars, drop your mental threshold well below 300 sq ft and plan for the Vaayu.
The three-second test for 'too large'
You do not need a tape measure or a calculator — the room will tell you. Stand next to the running Sukoon: the air should be pleasantly scented. Now walk to the farthest corner. If the scent there is clearly fainter — a noticeable gradient rather than an even wash — the room is at or past the limit of one ultrasonic unit. Add two more drops and check again: if the near air goes heavier but the far corner does not improve, that confirms it. That is 'too large' in three seconds.
Crucially, this is not a defect and the fix is not a better Sukoon — it is the right machine for the volume. Past the line, the waterless Vaayu (₹11,999) covers up to 1000m³ with the headroom to keep the far corner as scented as the near one, and adds no humidity into the bargain. If instead your 'too large' space is really two rooms, put a Sukoon in each — two units cover two rooms beautifully; what they cannot do is fill one big open volume. Keep the Sukoon regardless: it will be perfect in a bedroom, where a per-room device is exactly the point.
The too-large threshold
Read the room's shape and height alongside its floor area — open plans and high ceilings cross the line well before 300 sq ft.

Frequently asked questions
Facts verified August 2026: An ultrasonic diffuser disperses a water-based fragrance as a cool micro-mist, scenting a room without heat or flame and adding a little humidity. Great hotels use commercial HVAC scenting to create a signature smell; at home the same effect comes from a diffuser plus a hotel-inspired blend. SOSA Sukoon is a 500ml ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser with a 7-colour mood light (₹1,799); Boond is a 300ml mini ultrasonic diffuser (₹799); both run the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance. The Hotel Collection comes in seven scents (Ritz-Carlton, Westin, 1 Hotels, St. Regis, Shangri-La, Four Seasons and W Hotels styles) in 15ml (₹299), 100ml (₹999) and 300ml (₹1,799), plus 15ml Pack of 7 (₹1,799); dose 3-6 drops per tank, use SOSA diffuser fragrance only (not raw essential/carrier oils), and rinse between scents. For large, open-plan or high-humidity spaces the waterless SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999, up to 1000m³) adds no humidity; the Aangan (₹25,999) is a whole-home HVAC system. The scents are SOSA's own interpretations; SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live product pages.
