This is the post I would want a founder to read before a supplier visit rather than after one. Most scenting checklists start at item three, which is where the money is; the first two items are the ones that decide whether the money should be spent at all.
Quick answers — read this first
What is the first thing to consider?Whether to scent at all. Not which machine, not which fragrance. A pregnancy-focused centre is one of the few building types where the honest answer is often nothing, and an empty basket is a legitimate result of thinking clearly rather than an unfinished project. Ask whether the building has a public zone that can genuinely be separated from its clinical rooms, and whether a decent seat can be kept unscented. If either answer is no, the checklist ends there.
What decides which machine, if you get that far? Volume and air path, not ambition. Under about 750 sq ft the honest answer is one SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899 and a Vaayu would be the wrong buy. From roughly 1,500 sq ft, or wherever there is a corridor and closed cabins, one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999. You scent volume, not floor area - the Vaayu's 1000m³ rating is cubic, so ceiling height decides whether 2,000 or 3,000 sq ft is honest.
What should I be told before I buy, and am not? Three things. Nobody can promise you that ambient scent moves any business number - not appointments, not retention, not anything - and a supplier who says otherwise is selling you something else. Warranty, AMC, installation, bulk pricing and spare parts are not published, so confirm them with SOSA directly rather than assuming. And on refills: the Vaayu ships with 4 × 100ml oils and its 400ml tank runs 90+ days a fill; confirm further supply with SOSA before you commit.
The short answer
Short answer: start with whether to scent at all, then whether a public zone can be separated from the clinical rooms, then where the air actually goes, then size, then water or waterless, then controls, then refills, then an exit plan. The checklist is allowed to end at item one with nothing bought.
The pick: if the checklist survives to the hardware line, one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) for a centre past about 1,500 sq ft with a corridor and closed rooms, or one SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) for a single reception under about 750 sq ft.
Next step: send the floor plan and the ceiling height, and we will work the checklist with you - including telling you if the honest answer is to buy nothing - Ask for a clinic scenting plan.
Items one and two are free, take an afternoon, and decide everything after them. A supplier quotation that begins at item four is answering a question you have not finished asking.
The machine, if you reach the hardware line - tap for the specification
What should I consider before installing a scent machine in a pregnancy-focused healthcare centre?
Eight things, in order, and the first one is whether to install anything. I put it first because it is the item every checklist omits and the only one that can save you the whole exercise. A pregnancy-focused centre is a building type where nothing is a perfectly good answer, and this post is willing to end with you not buying. Item two: can a public zone be genuinely separated from the clinical rooms? If the consultation and scan rooms open directly off the waiting area with doors that stand open all day, the honest answer is that you scent the entrance only or not at all, because those rooms stay unscented - a patient in one of them is there for a long appointment, cannot leave, is often undressed or with an infant, and did not choose the fragrance. Item three: where does the air actually go? Walk it. Mark the supply and return grilles, the corridor mouth and the entrance draught, and check that a decent seat can be kept unscented by air path rather than by putting a chair in a dead corner. Item four: volume, not floor area. You scent cubic metres, so ceiling height matters - under about 750 sq ft one SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899 and a Vaayu would be the wrong buy; from roughly 1,500 sq ft, or with a corridor and closed cabins, one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999. Item five: water or waterless. Near clinical work I would rather have no humidity, no daily refill cycle and no mineral dust, which is the honest reason to prefer a waterless machine even where coverage does not demand one. Item six: controls - adjustable intensity, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, auto-stop and a key-lock, because the level always drifts upward and the lock is what stops it. Item seven: refills and running cost. The Vaayu ships with 4 × 100ml oils and its 400ml tank runs 90+ days a fill; confirm further supply with SOSA rather than assuming, and note that the water-based Hotel Collection is for ultrasonic machines and is not a Vaayu refill. Item eight: the exit plan - who switches it off, how fast, and what abandoning it costs. At ₹1,899 that is nothing; at ₹11,999 it is still recoverable, but you should know the answer before you buy. Two things nobody tells you at the quotation stage. No one can promise that ambient scent moves any business number - appointments, retention, reviews, referrals - and I will not either; it is the last five per cent of an experience and it cannot make a mediocre centre feel premium. And warranty, AMC, installation, bulk terms, spare parts and delivery timing are not published, so confirm them with SOSA directly. Fragrance here is an ambience decision with no clinical, therapeutic or wellbeing claim, it sits alongside cleaning and ventilation rather than instead of them and is never a mask, and your judgement as the treating clinician overrides the whole list. Ask for a clinic scenting plan and we will work it through with you.
Start with whether to buy anything at all, then whether a public zone can be separated from the clinical rooms, then the air path, then volume, then water or waterless, controls, refills and an exit plan. The checklist is allowed to end at item one.
If the checklist reaches hardware: one SOSA Vaayu - waterless so nothing damp sits near clinical work, 400ml tank at 90+ days a fill, timers, adjustable intensity and a key-lock. ₹11,999. Under about 750 sq ft, one Sukoon at ₹1,899, and a Vaayu at that size would be covering a fraction of its rating.
Two machines cover this vertical, and which one is right is decided by volume and air path rather than by budget. The images link to the product pages so you can read the specifications first.
Waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft depending on ceiling height. 400ml tank at 90+ days a fill, Bluetooth app with 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, auto-stop, under 38dB, key-lock, wall or HVAC mountable. Ships with 4 × 100ml oils; confirm further supply with SOSA.
Ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering roughly 270-320 sq ft with three 15ml fragrances included. For a single reception this is the honest buy and the cheapest way to run an honest trial, because abandoning it costs almost nothing. A Vaayu at six times the price would be badly oversized.
1000m³ coverage (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft), 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill, Bluetooth app and 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, under 38dB, 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mount, auto-stop and key-lock. CE, RoHS and SGS certified - electrical and compliance marks, not medical approvals. Made in India.
Most checklists in this category start at hardware. These three come before it, and any one of them can end the exercise.

Decide whether, in writing
An empty basket is a legitimate result of thinking clearly
Write down the reason you want this before you look at a single product page. If the reason is that a competitor has one, or that the interior budget had a line left over, that is not a reason and the honest answer is nothing. If the reason is that the entrance feels unfinished at the moment of arrival, that is a real reason and it will survive the rest of the checklist. A pregnancy-focused centre that runs no ambient fragrance is a finished building, and a good number of them make exactly that choice. Deciding no at item one costs an afternoon; deciding it after installation costs a machine, a fitting and an awkward conversation with your own staff.
Tip: If you cannot write the reason in one sentence, you are not ready to buy - and possibly not meant to.
One Vaayu ₹11,999, set once and left alone, is the whole hardware side of this.
If the clinical rooms cannot be kept out of it, the plan shrinks or stops
Stand at the corridor mouth and look at the plan honestly. Do the consultation and scan rooms open straight off the waiting area? Do the doors stand open all day for workflow reasons? Is there a return-air grille above the reception desk feeding the same duct as the rooms? Those rooms are unscented in every plan, so if they cannot be kept out of the air, you scent the entrance only or you scent nothing. This is also the moment to check whether a decent seat can be kept unscented by air path - not the chair in the dead corner, an actual seat you would offer anyone. If it cannot, shrink the scented footprint until it can.
Tip: Anything involving shared ducting or filtration is a question for your facilities engineer, not for a fragrance supplier.
One Vaayu ₹11,999, set once and left alone, is the whole hardware side of this.
Running cost, published terms, and what no supplier can promise you
Three questions to put to any supplier, including me. First: what is the running cost and where do refills come from? For the Vaayu, the box contains 4 × 100ml oils and the 400ml tank runs 90+ days a fill; confirm further supply with SOSA, and be aware the water-based Hotel Collection is an ultrasonic fragrance and not a Vaayu refill. Second: which commercial terms are actually published? Warranty, AMC, installation, bulk pricing, spare parts and delivery timing are not - confirm them directly rather than assuming. Third: what can you promise? The honest answer is nothing measurable. No one can promise that ambient scent moves appointments, retention or any other business number, and anybody who does is selling you a story.
One Vaayu ₹11,999, set once and left alone, is the whole hardware side of this.
The first line of a scenting purchase checklist is not which machine but whether this building has a public zone that can be kept separate from its clinical rooms - and if it does not, no machine on the list is the right one.
A quotation that starts at the hardware line is answering a question the founder has not finished asking.
Only where the zone exists: SOSA Vaayu, 1000m³, waterless, mountable, timed and key-locked - the right machine for a centre with a genuine public floor. ₹11,999.
The honest trial: SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899 in one reception costs little to start and nothing to abandon, which is the cheapest way to test an assumption.
The most useful outcome of a purchase checklist is sometimes an empty basket, and I would rather write that sentence than have a machine switched off after a fortnight.
Two machines cover this vertical and the checklist decides which, or whether. Both are dry enough to sit near clinical work without adding humidity, and neither makes any claim beyond ambience. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
The SOSA women's-health specification
What to buy, once the first three items are settled
Answer whether before which, keep every consultation, scan and examination room completely unscented rather than set lower, and confirm warranty, AMC, installation and bulk terms with SOSA directly because they are not published. Fragrance here is an ambience decision like lighting or seating and makes no clinical, therapeutic or wellbeing claim; it works alongside cleaning and ventilation, never instead of them, and is never used to mask another smell; and no one can promise you it moves any business number. Nothing SOSA sells is a medical device. Ask for a clinic scenting plan before you spend anything.

A note from Sonal
Founders usually come to this having already been quoted for something, and the quotation almost always begins at the hardware line. That is the wrong place to start in this vertical, because a pregnancy-focused centre is one of the few building types where the first honest question is whether to do this at all, and where the answer is sometimes no. I would rather lose the order at item one than have a machine unplugged and put in a cupboard after three weeks.
The two free items decide everything. Write down, in one sentence, why you want this - and if the sentence is about a competitor or a leftover budget line, you have your answer. Then check whether the public zone can genuinely be separated from the rooms where patients are examined and scanned, because those rooms are unscented in every plan I write, without exception. If they open straight off the waiting area with the doors permanently ajar, the plan shrinks to the entrance or it stops.
If it survives to hardware: one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 past about 1,500 sq ft, or one Sukoon at ₹1,899 under about 750 sq ft where a Vaayu would be the wrong buy. Ask me about running cost, published terms and what nobody can promise you, and I will tell you that no one can honestly link ambient scent to a business number. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Frequently asked questions
What should I consider before installing a scent machine in a pregnancy-focused healthcare centre?
Eight items in order, starting with whether to install anything at all. Then whether a public zone can genuinely be separated from the clinical rooms, where the air actually goes, the volume rather than the floor area, water or waterless, the controls, refills and running cost, and an exit plan. The checklist is allowed to end at item one with nothing bought.
Which machine, and at what size?
Under about 750 square feet, one SOSA Sukoon at Rs 1,899 in the public area, and a SOSA Vaayu would be the wrong buy. From roughly 1,500 square feet, or wherever there is a corridor and closed cabins for air to travel along, one SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999. You scent volume rather than floor area, so ceiling height decides whether the Vaayu's rating means 2,000 or 3,000 square feet.
What are the running costs and refills?
The Vaayu ships with four 100ml oils and its 400ml tank runs 90 or more days a fill, so the attention it needs is low. Confirm further refill supply with SOSA directly rather than assuming. The water-based Hotel Collection fragrances are for ultrasonic diffusers and are not a Vaayu refill. Warranty, AMC, installation, bulk pricing, spare parts and delivery timing are not published, so confirm those too.
Will ambient scent improve results for the centre?
No one can promise that, and I will not. Ambient scent is the last five per cent of an experience - it cannot make a mediocre centre feel premium, and no supplier can honestly link it to appointments, retention, reviews or any other business number. Buy it because the arrival feels unfinished without it, or do not buy it. Both are defensible positions.
Do consultation and scan rooms get anything?
No, in every plan and at every price. They are unscented rather than set to a lower level, and that includes machines, reeds, sprays and plug-ins. The reason is environmental and about consent: the patient is there for a long appointment, in a room she cannot leave, often undressed or with an infant, and she did not choose the fragrance. Your judgement as the treating clinician overrides any plan in your own rooms.
Uptime, not intensity: A 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill and under 38dB, so nothing needs daily attention near clinical work. ₹11,999.
The SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) covers up to 1000m³ and is the right machine for a centre with a genuine public floor; under about 750 sq ft the honest answer is a Sukoon at ₹1,899, and sometimes the honest answer is nothing at all. Warranty, AMC and installation terms are not published - confirm with SOSA. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the planning advice applies to any brand.
Facts verified 5 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with adjustable intensity, a 400ml refillable tank lasting 90+ days a fill depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, operation under 38dB at 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification, which are electrical and compliance marks and not medical approvals. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or equipment. The SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is an ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering roughly 270-320 sq ft and is supplied with three 15ml fragrances; the water-based Hotel Collection (₹299 / ₹999 / ₹1,799) is an ultrasonic fragrance and is not a refill for a waterless cold-air machine. SOSA reed diffusers are alcohol-free and phthalate-free, with 50ml lasting about 6-8 weeks and 130ml about 14-18 weeks. Cold-air refill oil for the Vaayu is not currently sold separately - the machine ships with 400ml included and further refills should be confirmed with SOSA. Warranty, annual maintenance, installation and bulk terms are not published and should be confirmed before ordering. Ambient scent is an interior and hospitality decision: it makes no clinical, therapeutic or wellbeing claim, it works alongside proper ventilation, cleaning and infection control and is never a substitute for any of them, it is never used to mask another smell, and no claim is made that fragrance influences a patient's decision or any commercial outcome. Clinical areas including procedure, post-procedure and photography rooms are left unscented, and the treating clinician's judgement overrides any scenting plan in their own room. The hotel-inspired scents are SOSA's own original interpretations; SOSA is an independent brand and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any hotel named for reference. Coverage, fragrance usage and running cost depend on the space, settings and hours of use, and are confirmed on a consultation. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live product pages.
