An open living-and-dining is one continuous volume of air, and that changes the answer.
For a genuine open plan the waterless Vaayu (₹11,999) is the right tool, not a bigger dose of a Sukoon — ultrasonic mist simply doesn't throw across an open span.
Quick answers — read this first
What diffuser for an open living-dining? The
Vaayu (₹11,999) — waterless cold-air, up to 1000m³, built to carry scent across an open volume.
Can't a Sukoon just do it? Only if the space is really an enclosed room. Across a true open plan a
Sukoon reads strong near the machine and fades to nothing at the far end.
Where does a Sukoon still fit? In an enclosed nook off the main space — a study, a snug, a bedroom. One
Sukoon (₹1,799) per closed room is exactly right.
The short answer
Short answer: For an open-plan living-and-dining, choose the waterless
Vaayu (₹11,999, up to 1000m³) — it carries one signature across the whole open volume where a
Sukoon's ultrasonic mist can't reach; keep the Sukoon for any enclosed room off the space.
The pick: the
SOSA Sukoon (₹1,799) ultrasonic diffuser plus a
Hotel Collection scent (from ₹299) is the hotel-at-home starter; a
Boond (₹799) suits a small room or desk, and for a large, open-plan or high-humidity space the waterless
Vaayu (₹11,999) adds no moisture.

Straight answer
Which diffuser is best for an open-plan living and dining room?
1. Decide if it's truly open. No dividing wall or door between the sofa and the dining table means it's one air volume — size for the whole thing, not each half.
2. Measure the volume, not the floor. Open plans usually pair with higher ceilings; multiply length × width × height and compare to the Vaayu's 1000m³.
3. Choose the Vaayu for the open span. Waterless cold-air throws scent far and evenly, with app and timers, and adds no humidity to already-humid air.
4. Add a Sukoon only for closed rooms. A study or bedroom off the open area gets its own
Sukoon and its own Hotel Collection scent.
5. Don't over-dose to compensate. Ten drops in a Sukoon won't fill an open plan — you'll only get a strong pocket by the machine and dead corners beyond.

One line: open-plan living-dining wants the
Vaayu (₹11,999); a
Sukoon (₹1,799) is for the enclosed rooms off it.
Why an open plan changes the diffuser you need
1
THE AIR
One open volume, not two cosy rooms
Vaayu · large room₹11,999 The moment a wall comes down, living and dining become a single body of air that moves freely between the sofa, the table and often the kitchen. An ultrasonic
cool mist is dense and low-energy — it settles within a few feet of the machine and never travels the length of an open plan. That's not a fault of the Sukoon; it's physics. A cold-air machine like the
Vaayu atomises scent into a fine dry cloud that a room's own currents actually carry.
Tip: If you can walk fifteen feet without a wall, you're sizing for a volume, not a room.
2
THE THROW
Ultrasonic mist has limited reach by design
Sukoon · the diffuser₹1,799 A
Sukoon is superb in an enclosed 200–250 sq ft room because the walls hold the mist in. Take those walls away and the same mist has nowhere to build — it disperses upward and outward and thins to nothing before it reaches the dining end. People respond by adding drops, which only intensifies the pocket beside the machine.
More fragrance cannot buy more distance from an ultrasonic; only a different dispersal method can.
Tip: Strong-near-machine and faint-far-away is the classic sign you've out-sized a Sukoon.

THE FIX
Waterless cold-air for the span, Sukoon for the nooks
Hotel Collection scentsFrom ₹299 The clean setup for an open home is a hybrid: a
Vaayu carrying one Hotel-inspired signature across the open living-dining, and a
Sukoon in each closed room — a study, a guest room — running its own scent. The Vaayu adds no humidity, which suits coastal and air-conditioned Indian homes, while the Sukoon gently humidifies the smaller rooms that want it. Right tool, right space.

The hotel-at-home kit: one diffuser, seven scents, one small room option
The SOSA principle
An open plan is a volume, not a room — and volumes are the one thing an ultrasonic diffuser was never built to fill.
Right tool for the air you actually have.
Seven hotels, one diffuser Hotel Collection Fragrance From ₹299 Water-based, ultrasonic-safe scents, each SOSA's own interpretation of a famous hotel signature - Ritz-Carlton-style white tea & cedar, Westin-style spa white tea, St. Regis-style amber & violet, and more. Try any scent in a 15ml (₹299), size up to 100ml (₹999) or 300ml (₹1,799), or take all seven as the 15ml Pack of 7 (₹1,799). Shop the 7 scents →
You cannot pour your way across an open plan. More drops give you a stronger corner, not a scented home.

Sizes & how to use: every scent comes as 15ml (₹299, to try), 100ml (₹999, the value bottle) or 300ml (₹1,799, best per-ml); the 15ml
Pack of 7 (₹1,799) is the whole wardrobe. Add just 3-6 drops to the Sukoon's water tank and adjust to taste - a little goes a long way - and rinse the tank when you switch scents so each stays true. These are water-based, ultrasonic-safe fragrances made for SOSA diffusers; do not substitute raw essential or carrier oils, which can clog the misting plate. Frequently asked questions
Why won't a Sukoon fill my open living-dining?
Ultrasonic cool mist has limited throw — it builds only in the few feet around the machine and thins out across an open span. In an enclosed 200–250 sq ft room that's perfect; across an open plan the far end stays unscented. The
Vaayu's cold-air dispersal is what actually carries.
Can I just use two Sukoons instead of a Vaayu?
Two
Sukoons cover two rooms beautifully, but in one open volume they give you two strong pockets with faint air between — not an even scent. For a single open span, one Vaayu is the cleaner answer than several ultrasonic units.
What size open plan can the Vaayu handle?
Up to 1000m³, which covers a large open living-dining-kitchen or a villa ground floor. For anything bigger — a whole open home — the ducted
Aangan (₹25,999) is the step up.
Does the Vaayu add humidity like the Sukoon?
No. The
Vaayu is waterless cold-air, so it adds no moisture — ideal for open plans in coastal cities or heavily air-conditioned homes where you don't want extra humidity.
Which Hotel Collection scent suits an open living-dining?
A gracious, room-filling signature works best —
Warm Welcome (Four Seasons style) or Quiet Luxury (Ritz-Carlton style). Run it through the Vaayu for the open space, and echo it in any Sukoon-scented nook.
Scent the whole open plan
Fill an open living-dining with one even signature — the waterless Vaayu

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the technique applies to any brand's ultrasonic system.
Facts verified August 2026: An ultrasonic diffuser disperses a water-based fragrance as a cool micro-mist, scenting a room without heat or flame and adding a little humidity. Great hotels use commercial HVAC scenting to create a signature smell; at home the same effect comes from a diffuser plus a hotel-inspired blend. SOSA Sukoon is a 500ml ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser with a 7-colour mood light (₹1,799); Boond is a 300ml mini ultrasonic diffuser (₹799); both run the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance. The Hotel Collection comes in seven scents (Ritz-Carlton, Westin, 1 Hotels, St. Regis, Shangri-La, Four Seasons and W Hotels styles) in 15ml (₹299), 100ml (₹999) and 300ml (₹1,799), plus 15ml Pack of 7 (₹1,799); dose 3-6 drops per tank, use SOSA diffuser fragrance only (not raw essential/carrier oils), and rinse between scents. For large, open-plan or high-humidity spaces the waterless SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999, up to 1000m³) adds no humidity; the Aangan (₹25,999) is a whole-home HVAC system. The scents are SOSA's own interpretations; SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live product pages.
