★ The machine behind the scent layer
One Vaayu is rated to 1000m³ - about 2,000-3,000 sq ft - so it is a whole-floor machine, not a room gadget No water, no heat, no dampness, no residue, under 38dB, and about 1.5 units of electricity a month at ten hours a day Made in India · independent, not affiliated with any hotel · a portion funds girl-child education

This is the whole series in one page: how to size the machine, where to put it, what to run in it, when to run it, when in a project to install it, and what to write down so the layer survives. If you read only one page about scenting a luxury home, make it this one.
Quick answers — read this first
How do I set up the SOSA Vaayu for a luxury home? Five decisions. Size by air volume: length by width by height in metres, divided by 1000m³, which is what one unit covers - about 2,000-3,000 sq ft. Place it on the air path, the hall near the entrance airflow or beside the air-conditioning return, at chest height or above. Choose one fragrance profile for the whole floor. Schedule two low windows a day and start 30 to 45 minutes before guests. Then document the setting. Rs 11,999, waterless, under 38dB.

How many Vaayu machines does a villa need? One per connected air volume rather than one per room. A 2,000 sq ft villa floor at a ten foot ceiling is roughly 570 cubic metres, comfortably inside the 1000m³ one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is rated for. A second floor behind a closed staircase door, or a wing on separate air conditioning, is a separate volume and takes its own machine. Genuinely double-height volumes need a different answer, and we will say so.

What is the right run schedule for home fragrance? Two low windows a day for most homes, one before the household wakes and one in the early evening, rather than one strong burst. Before guests, start 30 to 45 minutes ahead so the fragrance has settled instead of announcing itself. The SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) has 1h, 4h, 8h and 24h timers with adjustable intensity, and at 5W a ten hour daily schedule is about 1.5 units of electricity a month.
The short answer
Short answer: size by air volume at one unit per 1000m³ (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft), place it on the hall airflow or beside the AC return at chest height or above, run one profile for the whole floor on two low daily windows, and document the setting. The SOSA Vaayu is ₹11,999, waterless, under 38dB, with a 400ml pure-oil tank lasting up to 75 days.
The pick: one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) per connected floor volume, placed on the air path, run low on two daily windows, with the fragrance, setting and refill date written down.
Next step: send the floor plan, the ceiling height and where the air conditioning returns, and we will size and place it for you - ask us what fits your home.
The complete guide - five decisions, in order1. Size - air volume, not floor area. One unit per 1000m³.2. Place - the hall airflow or the AC return, chest height or above3. Profile - one fragrance for the whole floor, chosen on materials4. Schedule - two low windows a day, 30-45 minutes before guests5. Document - the scent, the setting, the position, the refill date
Five decisions and a prerequisite. The prerequisite is that the house is aired, cleaned and finished off-gassing before anything is switched on. Get that wrong and none of the five will save you.

Straight answer
What is the complete guide to using a SOSA Vaayu in a luxury home?
Five decisions, and one prerequisite that comes before all of them. The prerequisite: air the house, deep clean it, and let paint, adhesives, engineered board and new upholstery finish off-gassing. Scent over an unclean or curing smell gives you both at once. Decision one, size. Work in air volume, not floor area, because ceiling height is what floor-area rules of thumb miss. Multiply length by width by height in metres for each connected space and divide by 1000m³, which is what one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is rated to cover - approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft. A 1,200 sq ft flat at a ten foot ceiling is about 340 cubic metres, so one machine, comfortably. A 2,000 sq ft villa floor is around 570. The boundary is connected air rather than walls: a second floor behind a closed staircase door, or a wing on its own air conditioning, is a separate volume. Decision two, placement. Follow the air, not the furniture. The hall or passage near the entrance airflow, or immediately beside the air-conditioning return so the existing airflow distributes it, at chest height or above. The middle of a living room looks right and works badly. The unit is 165 x 80.5 x 215mm at 0.9kg on DC 12V/1A, 5W, and mounts freestanding, on a wall or on HVAC, so the correct position is nearly always achievable - just make sure the tank can be reached by whoever will fill it. Decision three, profile. One fragrance for the whole floor, chosen against the dominant materials: dry woods, tea and soft amber for timber, leather and stone; clean citrus, white floral and light musk for glass, lacquer and pale stone. Avoid heavy sweet profiles in cooking-heavy, air-conditioned homes. Decision four, schedule and level. Two low windows a day suits most homes, and 30 to 45 minutes before guests rather than as they arrive. The correct level is noticed in the first ten seconds and forgotten by minute five - set it with somebody who has just walked in, because you adapt to your own home within minutes. The machine runs under 38dB and holds 400ml of pure fragrance oil for up to 75 days, about five fills a year. Decision five, document it. Write down the fragrance, the intensity, the timer windows, the position and the refill date, and key-lock the machine. Undocumented scent layers last exactly one tank. SOSA's hotel-inspired fragrances are our own original interpretations of a style of scenting, composed in our own studio. SOSA is an independent Indian brand and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any hotel or hotel group. A free sensory scenting plan will do the volume maths from your plan, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Air, clean, then: size by volume at one unit per 1000m³, place on the air path, one profile per floor, two low daily windows, and write the setting down.

Sizing, placement and schedule - the three decisions

Three decisions carry almost all of the outcome: the sizing maths, the position, and the run schedule. Everything else is detail.

1
Size by air, not by floor
Length by width by height, divided by 1000
Floor-area rules of thumb fail in exactly the homes people want to scent, because tall rooms hold far more air than their footprint suggests. Work in cubic metres. A 1,200 sq ft flat at a ten foot ceiling holds roughly 340 cubic metres; the same footprint at a fourteen foot ceiling holds nearly 480. One Vaayu is rated to 1000 cubic metres, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, so most Indian apartments and single villa floors are one machine with room to spare. Count connected air rather than rooms: an open plan hall, living and dining area on one air-conditioning loop is one volume, while a second floor behind a closed staircase door is another. If your number comes out well above 1000 cubic metres in a single volume, say so and we will tell you honestly that one Vaayu is not the right answer.
Tip: one unit per 1000m³ of connected air. Round down, then check the far room.
SOSA Vaayu
1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft, from one position - the number that does most of the planning.
See SOSA Vaayu →
2
Place it where the air moves
The hall airflow or the air-conditioning return
Scent travels on moving air, so the machine belongs where the house already moves it. The two positions that work almost everywhere are a hall or passage near the entrance airflow, and immediately beside the return of the air conditioning, which will distribute the fragrance through every room on that loop. Height helps - chest height or above disperses far better than a low side table. Avoid the geometric centre of the living room, avoid enclosed cabinets, and do not aim the outlet directly at a surface at close range. At 165 x 80.5 x 215mm and 0.9kg on a 12V adaptor, it will sit in a niche, on a bracket above a shoe cabinet, or on the duct itself, so pick the position for the air and then work out the fixing. And keep the tank reachable, because a machine that is awkward to refill stops being refilled.
SOSA Vaayu
Freestanding, wall mounted or HVAC mounted, so placement is decided by airflow rather than by furniture.

3
Run it low, twice a day
And set the level with somebody else's nose
Two low windows a day is where most homes end up: one starting shortly before the household wakes, one in the early evening. That beats a single strong burst, uses less oil, and produces the steady background level that reads as a settled home rather than a staged one. For guests, start 30 to 45 minutes before they arrive so the fragrance has diffused and dropped rather than announcing itself at the door. On level: you adapt to your own home within minutes, so ask somebody arriving from outside what they notice in the first ten seconds. If they can name the fragrance, come down a step. Then key-lock it. A 400ml tank at that kind of schedule runs up to about 75 days, so plan on roughly five fills a year, and note the date somewhere.
Tip: notice it on entry, forget it by minute five. Then stop adjusting it.

This guide is the end of the series rather than the start of it. If you want the reasoning underneath the numbers, how scent changes the way a home feels explains why continuity does the work, and what sensory interior design is places the scent channel among the other four. Practices should read how interior designers can create a complete sensory home experience for the project programme and handover pack. This piece sits under our pillar guide on how to make your home feel more expensive.

The prerequisite is worth repeating at the end as well as the beginning, because it decides everything else: air the house, deep clean it, and let new paint, adhesives, board and upholstery finish off-gassing before you scent anything. Fragrance works alongside ventilation and cleaning rather than instead of them, it cannot cover damp, cooking, pet odour or a musty wardrobe, and it is not an air purifier. That is a description of how recognition works, not a promise about mood or health: fragrance is a finish, it is not an air purifier, and we make no health claim for it. SOSA's hotel-inspired fragrances are our own original interpretations of a style of scenting, composed in our own studio. A note from Sonal

If you have read this far, you already know the argument: a home is experienced through five channels and designed for one, and the channel with the least attention paid to it has an outsized effect on whether the place feels finished. This last page is deliberately practical, because a good argument that nobody can act on is just an opinion.

So the whole method, once more. Air and clean first. Work out the air volume and divide by 1000m³ - one Vaayu covers about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft, so most homes are one machine. Put it where the air moves, not where it looks good. Choose one fragrance for the floor and keep it for years, because recognition is built by repetition. Run it lower than you want to, on two short windows a day. And write down what you did, so that in six months somebody can refill it correctly.

And the honest part, for the last time. Olfactory signals reach the brain by a short pathway that sits close to the regions handling memory and emotion, which is why a smell can return a place to you years later, faster than a photograph of it can. That is a description of how recognition works, not a promise about mood or health: fragrance is a finish, it is not an air purifier, and we make no health claim for it. A home smells good because it is aired and clean first, then scented. It cannot cover damp, cooking, a musty cupboard or an interior still curing, and the Vaayu takes pure fragrance oil in its own 400ml tank rather than a water-based fragrance. SOSA's hotel-inspired fragrances are our own original interpretations of a style of scenting, composed in our own studio. SOSA is an independent Indian brand and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any hotel or hotel group. Everything is made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

How do I size a SOSA Vaayu for my home?
By air volume rather than floor area. Multiply length by width by height in metres for each connected space and divide by 1000 cubic metres, which is what one SOSA Vaayu (Rs 11,999) covers - about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. A 1,200 sq ft flat at a ten foot ceiling is roughly 340 cubic metres and a 2,000 sq ft villa floor around 570, so one machine is usually comfortable. A floor behind a closed staircase door is a separate volume.
Where exactly should I put it?
Where the air already moves: a hall or passage near the entrance airflow, or immediately beside the air-conditioning return so the existing airflow distributes it, at chest height or above. Avoid the centre of the living room and enclosed cabinets, do not aim the outlet at a surface at close range, and make sure the tank can be reached comfortably by whoever will refill it.
What schedule should I run?
Two low windows a day for most homes, one starting shortly before the household wakes and one in the early evening. Before guests, start 30 to 45 minutes ahead rather than as they arrive so the fragrance has settled. The Vaayu has 1, 4, 8 and 24 hour timers with adjustable intensity, and at 5W a ten hour daily schedule is about 1.5 units of electricity a month.
How often will I refill it, and with what?
Roughly five times a year. The 400ml tank takes pure fragrance oil, not a water-based fragrance, and one fill runs up to about 75 days depending on intensity and run hours. Note the refill date somewhere, because an undocumented scent layer usually ends the first time a tank runs dry.
When in a new interiors project should it be installed?
After the deep clean and after paint, adhesives, engineered board and new upholstery have finished off-gassing, and before handover. Scent over a curing or unclean smell gives you both at once. Install it in the styling window, set the level with somebody who has just walked in, key-lock it, and write down the fragrance, setting and position.
