This is the question every growing footwear brand reaches at store four. The instinct is to standardise everything, and half of that instinct is right. The fragrance should absolutely be the same. The settings should not be, and insisting they are is how a brand ends up with one store that reads beautifully and three that do not.
Quick answers — read this first
Should the same signature scent be used in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad? Yes for the register, no for the settings. The fragrance itself is a brand asset and there is no good reason to change it by city - a customer who knows your Mumbai store should recognise your Hyderabad one. What should differ is everything around it: intensity, placement, run hours and cleaning frequency, because the four cities give you four different rooms. Mumbai is humid for months, Delhi swings from a hard-chilled May to a still January, Bengaluru is mild and often naturally ventilated, and Hyderabad runs hot and dry for long stretches. Same fragrance, four settings.

What actually differs between stores in those four cities? Three things, and none of them is taste. Humidity, which is high year-round in coastal Mumbai, seasonal in Delhi and Hyderabad, and generally moderate in Bengaluru. Building type, since a sealed mall unit, a street-facing shop with the door open and an older building with openable windows behave completely differently. And air conditioning, which ranges from central chilled-water plant you do not control to a couple of split units to nothing at all. Floor area varies too, which is why the same brand may honestly run reeds in one store and a machine in another.

Does a humid city need a different fragrance from a dry one? No. Changing the register by climate is how a brand loses its signature, and it solves a problem that placement and intensity solve better. What humidity genuinely changes is the method and the level: evaporation is slower in humid air, so a passive product reads a little quieter and lasts longer, while dry moving air distributes further and depletes faster. It also changes the product choice, because a water-based ultrasonic unit is the wrong machine in a coastal store through the wet months. The fragrance stays. The setting moves.
The short answer
Short answer: Use the same register everywhere and set every store individually. The fragrance is the brand asset that makes four cities read as one shopfront, so it should not change by climate. Intensity, placement, run hours, product type and cleaning frequency should all vary, because humidity, building type, air conditioning and floor area differ between Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Same signature, four settings, judged locally.
The pick: One register across the group, then size each store: a Mountain Breeze reed (₹849) in a small unit, and one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) where a store has roughly 1,500 sq ft or more of connected floor.
Next step: Send us the four floor areas, the building type for each and how each store is conditioned, and we will write one register and four settings - ask for a store scenting plan.
One register, four cities, four settingsThe fragrance is a brand asset - do not change it by cityMumbai is humid for months and rules out water-based unitsDelhi swings from a chilled May to a still JanuaryBengaluru is mild and often naturally ventilatedHyderabad runs hot and dry for long stretches of the year
Standardising the fragrance is what makes four stores one brand. Standardising the settings is what makes three of them wrong, because no two of those buildings breathe the same way.
Straight answer
Can four stores in four Indian cities share one signature without sharing one setting?
Yes, and that is the only version of this that works. Take the register first. A signature fragrance is a brand asset in the same way a shopfront, a bag or a font is, and its whole value comes from being repeated. A customer who knows your Mumbai store and walks into your Hyderabad one should recognise something without being able to name it. Changing the fragrance by city destroys that for no gain at all, and the reasons owners give for wanting to - it is more humid there, the store is smaller, the manager prefers something fresher - are all reasons to change a setting rather than a scent. Choose the register from the stock and the interior, as you would for a single store: dry pine, sage and cedar under leather and dark wood; lemon, peppermint and eucalyptus on a bright sneaker floor; rose and jasmine in an occasion boutique. Then hold it across the group for years. Now take the four rooms, because they are genuinely different. Mumbai is humid for a long stretch of the year, which slows evaporation, makes a passive product read quieter, and rules out a water-based ultrasonic unit through the wet months near cardboard, carpet and leather. Delhi behaves like three separate rooms across one year - a hard-chilled dry May, a wet August, a still January with the door propped - so it needs a level that moves twice a year rather than one that is set and forgotten. Bengaluru is the mildest of the four and often the least mechanically conditioned; a store with openable windows and modest cooling has calmer air, which means placement carries more weight and a lower setting usually reads correctly. Hyderabad runs hot and dry for long stretches, so plant tends to work hard, air moves, passive products deplete faster and dust needs naming on the cleaning rota. Then take the buildings, which vary at least as much as the weather. A sealed mall unit, a street-facing shop whose door stands open and an older building with real windows are three different problems, and your four stores may well be three of them. Floor area varies too, which is why one brand can honestly run reeds in a 400 sq ft unit and a waterless machine in a 1,800 sq ft one without any inconsistency at all - the register is identical and only the delivery differs. What holds this together is a rule rather than a number. Standardise the fragrance, the placement principle and the test - noticed on arrival, settled within a minute, judged at six on a Saturday with the floor full, and overruled by staff who say it is too much. Never standardise an intensity step or a reed count across buildings that do not breathe alike. And keep the frame honest: this is a brand and interior decision, and we make no claim that it affects sales, footfall, browsing time or what anybody buys. Ask for a store scenting plan with your four floor areas and building types.
Same fragrance in all four cities. Different intensity, placement, product and run hours in each, because humidity, building type and air conditioning are not the same.
Where a store has roughly 1,500 sq ft or more of connected floor, one SOSA Vaayu gives a group what it needs across cities: adjustable intensity so each store can be correct, and a key-lock so correct stays correct. Waterless, under 38dB. ₹11,999.

What each store in the group should buy

A group is allowed to buy different things for different stores, and it should. A 400 sq ft city-centre unit wants a reed; a 600 sq ft store wants reeds by zone or one Sukoon, though not a water-based unit in coastal Mumbai during monsoon; a 1,800 sq ft store wants one waterless machine. The register stays identical across all of them, which is what a customer actually recognises.

SOSA Vaayu
The larger stores in the group
SOSA Vaayu
Waterless, which makes it the one machine that suits a coastal store and a dry inland one equally. Adjustable intensity lets four managers hold four correct levels of the same fragrance, and the key-lock means head office can set a level and have it still be that level in March. Rated to 1000m³, under 38dB, 5W - roughly 1.5 units of electricity a month on a ten-hour day.
From ₹11,999
SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed Diffuser
The smaller stores in the group
SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed Diffuser
Himalayan pine, sage and cedar. A small store running reeds and a large one running a machine are not inconsistent as long as the register is the same - that is the part a customer recognises. The reed count gives a local manager a legitimate, cheap way to be correct in their own building. From ₹849.
From ₹849
SOSA Sukoon
One zone, in a dry inland unit
SOSA Sukoon
500ml ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering roughly 270-320 sq ft and running 16-18 hours on low, supplied with three 15ml fragrances. It is water-based, so it suits a dry, hard-chilled inland unit and is the wrong choice in a coastal store through the monsoon. ₹1,899.
From ₹1,899
SOSA Vaayu
The machine that behaves the same in four climates
SOSA Vaayu
1000m³ coverage (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft), 400ml tank lasting up to 75 days, Bluetooth app and 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, under 38dB, 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mount, auto-stop and key-lock. CE, RoHS and SGS certified. Made in India.

Three things that genuinely differ

The three things that genuinely differ between your four cities, and what each one moves.

1
Humidity
It changes the method and the level, and never the register
Mumbai carries real humidity for months; Delhi and Hyderabad have wet weeks inside otherwise dry years; Bengaluru sits mild for most of it. What that does is physical rather than aesthetic. Evaporation slows in humid air, so a passive product reads a little quieter and a bottle lasts longer, while dry moving air distributes further and depletes faster - the same reed genuinely behaves differently in two of your stores. Humidity also decides a product question: a water-based ultrasonic unit adds moisture, which is a fair trade in a dry chilled unit and the wrong direction in a coastal store through the wet months, near cardboard, carpet and leather already holding more than they should. And in every humid store the real work sits upstream of fragrance anyway - dry stock storage, a stockroom door that shuts itself, and cleaning on carpet and seating raised for the season.
Tip: ask each manager how long a bottle lasts. Four different answers for the same product is a map of your four climates.

2
Building type
A sealed mall unit and an open shopfront are not the same room
Climate gets the attention, but building type usually matters more. A mall unit borrows its air from a plant room you have never seen and exchanges it with a corridor you do not own. A street-facing shop owns its air and gives it away through a door that keeps opening. An older building with openable windows and a couple of split units behaves like neither. Those three want different placements: deep inside the floor and clear of the shopfront line in a mall unit; well behind the threshold and out of the draught line in a street store; away from an open window and out of a cross-breeze in the third. A group that issues one placement diagram for all of them will be wrong in at least two. Standardise the principle - source in the zone where customers stop walking, clear of returns, thresholds and draught lines - and let each store apply it to the room it actually has.
Tip: photograph each store's entrance, grilles and stockroom door once. That set of photographs is more useful to a group than any policy document.
SOSA Vaayu
Wall and HVAC mounting is what lets one specification work in very different rooms - the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999.
See SOSA Vaayu →
3
Air conditioning
Central plant, split units or nothing at all
Your four stores may be conditioned in three different ways, and that changes both distribution and scheduling. Central plant in a mall runs to the building's hours, moves a lot of air and will carry a correctly placed source across a whole floor at a low setting - and pull it straight to a return if the source is badly placed. Split units make small local currents rather than a whole-floor pattern, so a source belongs near where people are rather than near the unit. A store with no mechanical cooling at all has still air, which means a gradient around the source and a level that reads heavier close to it. Run hours should follow whatever moves the air in each store, not a single head-office window. Anything beyond that - grilles, returns, extraction, duct-mounted equipment - is a matter for the mall's facilities team or a ventilation engineer, and we hand them the specification rather than writing it.
Tip: note where each store's return grille is. It is the most common reason a well-chosen fragrance never reaches the back wall.
SOSA Vaayu
Timers and adjustable intensity let four differently conditioned stores run one register correctly.
See SOSA Vaayu →
The SOSA principle
Four cities can share a fragrance the way they share a logo. What they cannot share is a number on a dial, because no two of those buildings breathe the same way.
Standardise the register, the placement principle and the test. Let each store find its own level, and check it locally on a full Saturday floor.
SOSA Vaayu
One machine, four climates: SOSA Vaayu - waterless, adjustable intensity, timers and a key-lock. ₹11,999.

Four cities, one register

The four cities side by side, with the register held identical down the whole column.

The SOSA plan
Four cities, one register
The city What it changes about the setting
SOSA VaayuMumbai
Humid for months. Slower evaporation, a quieter passive reading, and no water-based unit through the wet season. Storage and stockroom discipline first.
Delhi
Three rooms in one year. A level that moves twice - once as summer load begins, once after the monsoon - plus dust named on the cleaning rota.
Bengaluru
Mild, often naturally ventilated and calmer. Placement carries more weight, still air makes a gradient, and a lower setting usually reads correctly.
Hyderabad
Hot and dry for long stretches. Plant works hard, air moves, passive products deplete faster, and dust needs a named line on the rota.

The way this is held together in practice is set out in whether one signature can work across India if settings change by location, and the seasonal version for a single city is in a Delhi store across summer, monsoon and winter. SOSA is an independent brand and is not affiliated with any hotel or footwear brand named for reference.

Different stores in one group may honestly run different products - a reed in a small unit and a machine in a large one - as long as the register is identical, and a second machine belongs to a second volume of air rather than a second corner of the same room. A water-based ultrasonic unit is the wrong choice in a coastal store through the wet months. Anything involving grilles, returns, extraction or dehumidification belongs to the mall's facilities team or a ventilation engineer. Fragrance is a brand and interior decision and we make no claim about sales, footfall, browsing time or purchase decisions. Ask for a store scenting plan with your four floor areas.

A note from Sonal

The four-city question always arrives with a spreadsheet attached. Somebody has decided that consistency means every store runs the same product at the same number, and the Mumbai manager has already quietly stopped following it because the room told them not to. I would rather that argument happened at the start than in the second year, so I say the same thing every time: the fragrance is shared, the number never is.

In practice that means one register chosen from the stock and the interiors, and then four honest conversations about four buildings. A coastal store that must not be given water. A Delhi store that needs its level moved twice a year. A mild Bengaluru shop where a lower setting is simply correct. And one Vaayu at ₹11,999 only where a floor is genuinely big enough, with a reed at ₹849 everywhere it is not.

The limits, plainly. This is an ambience and interior decision, and we make no claim that it increases sales, footfall or browsing time, and nothing about health, therapy or medicine. It never masks a smell that has a source, and in every city the stockroom, the boxes and the trying area come first. Staff in four stores breathe it all day, so their judgement overrides any policy of mine. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

Should the same signature scent be used in every city?
Yes for the fragrance itself and no for the settings. The register is a brand asset and its value comes from being repeated, so a customer who knows one store recognises another. What should differ store by store is intensity, placement, product type, run hours and cleaning frequency, because humidity, building type, air conditioning and floor area are genuinely different in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
Should a humid city get a different fragrance from a dry one?
No. Changing the register by climate loses the signature and solves nothing that placement and intensity do not solve better. Humidity changes the method rather than the scent: evaporation slows in humid air so a passive product reads quieter and lasts longer, and a water-based ultrasonic unit becomes the wrong machine through the wet months. The fragrance stays the same and the setting moves.
Can one store use reeds while another uses a machine?
Yes, and in most groups it is the honest answer. A 400 sq ft store does not need a commercial nebuliser and a 1,800 sq ft store is not well served by a single bottle. As long as the register is identical, a customer recognises the brand rather than the equipment. What should never differ is the fragrance, and what should never be copied between buildings is the number on the dial.
Who should decide the intensity in each store?
Set it centrally as a starting point, confirm it locally, and lock it. The person judging should be standing in the store at six on a Saturday with the floor full, not reading a spreadsheet in another city. Staff have the final say because they breathe it for nine hours a day, and if they say it is too much then it is too much whatever the group standard says.
Does building type matter more than climate?
Often, yes. A sealed mall unit, a street-facing shop with a constantly opening door and an older building with openable windows behave completely differently regardless of which city they sit in. That is why a group should standardise the placement principle - source in the zone where customers stop walking, clear of returns, thresholds and draught lines - rather than issuing one placement diagram for every store.

Facts verified 7 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with adjustable intensity, a 400ml refillable tank lasting up to about 75 days depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and onboard button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, operation under 38dB, DC 12V/1A at 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or equipment. the SOSA Mountain Breeze reed diffuser (Himalayan pine, sage and cedar) is ₹849 in 50ml and ₹1,349 in 130ml. the SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is a 500ml ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering roughly 270-320 sq ft, running 16-18 hours on its low setting and supplied with three 15ml water-based Hotel Collection fragrances; being ultrasonic it adds a little humidity to the room. Ambient fragrance is an interior and brand decision only. SOSA makes no claim that scent influences a purchase decision, sales, conversion, footfall, browsing time or basket size, and no claim that any product removes, neutralises, eliminates or absorbs an odour, or that it cleans, purifies or disinfects air.
