The set, and I should start by telling you why the other two options on your list do not exist here. SOSA makes four attars and none of them is a standalone white musk and none of them is a standalone sandalwood. White musk is the base of Adaa and one of nine materials in Nawaab; sandalwood is a major note in Ameeri and in Nawaab. In both cases the material is real and the composition around it is the point, which means neither of the first two things you asked for is a thing I can sell you. That leaves the set, which happens also to be the right answer for a first perfume oil, for reasons that have nothing to do with it being the last option standing.
Quick answers — read this first
Should I gift a white musk attar, a sandalwood attar or a set to a first-time oil wearer? The set, because two of those three are not products in this range. SOSA makes four attars and none of them is a standalone white musk or a standalone sandalwood - white musk is the base of Adaa and one of nine materials in Nawaab, and Indian sandalwood is a major note in Ameeri and in Nawaab. The trio is Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani as three 3ml bottles for Rs 1,055, Rs 118 less than those three 3mls separately, and it hands the choice to the person who has to wear it.

What size should a first attar be as a gift? A 3ml, or three of them as the set. Never a 12ml. A 3ml is Rs 379 to Rs 399 depending on the composition and holds the same liquid as the larger bottles, so the only thing a bigger bottle buys on a gift is more of something nobody has verified. For a recipient who has never worn a perfume oil, the point of the gift is to find out whether they like the format at all, and that question is settled by the smallest bottle made.

What is different about wearing an attar instead of a spray? The gesture and the reach. An attar is dabbed from a built-in applicator at the pulse points rather than sprayed in a cloud, it is alcohol-free on a DPG-free jojoba carrier, and it sits closer to the skin than an alcoholic spray does. SOSA attars run 6-8 hours on skin and longer on warm or oily skin, which is the only wear figure we publish. The practical note worth passing on with the gift is to use less than feels natural on the first day.
The short answer
Short answer: The set. SOSA has no standalone white musk attar and no standalone sandalwood attar, so two of your three options do not exist in this range. The trio is three 3ml bottles at ₹1,055, ₹118 less than those three 3mls separately, and it lets the recipient choose instead of you. A single 3ml from ₹379 is the other honest answer. A 12ml is not.
The pick: The trio - Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani at 3ml for ₹1,055 - if the recipient leans traditional or enjoys trying things. A single Adaa 3ml ₹379 if they lean light and fresh, because Adaa is the only composition of the four with no oudh in it and it is not in the set. Either way the size is 3ml, because a first oil should be a trial and not a commitment.
Honest note: an attar is bought unsmelled, so a list of notes is all you have. A note list describes an intention, not a smell, and nothing written here is a substitute for wearing it.
Four attars - lightest opening to deepest baseAdaa · Mastani · Ameeri · Nawaab3ml from ₹379  |  6ml from ₹669  |  12ml from ₹1,149Dab on pulse points - oil wants warmth, not rubbing6-8 hours on skin · alcohol-free · DPG-free carrier
There are four SOSA attars and they run from a bergamot-and-cardamom opening at the lightest end to white royal oud at the deepest. Adaa is the freshest, Mastani the most floral, Ameeri the warmest, Nawaab the deepest. All four are alcohol-free on a jojoba carrier with no DPG, come with a dab applicator, and wear 6-8 hours on skin - longer on warm or oily skin. Sizes are 3ml, 6ml and 12ml, from Rs 379. None of that tells you whether you will like the smell, which is why the smallest size exists.
Straight answer
Should I gift a white musk attar, a sandalwood attar or a set to someone who has never worn perfume oils?
The set - and two of the three things you asked about are not products in this range.

What SOSA does not make, said plainly. There are four SOSA attars and that is the entire range. There is no standalone white musk attar. White musk is the base of Adaa, sitting under bergamot, green cardamom and jasmine sambac, and it is one of nine materials in Nawaab. In both it is the drydown rather than the subject, so if what you want is musk and nothing else, we do not make it and I would rather say so than sell you the nearest thing. There is no standalone sandalwood attar either. Indian sandalwood is a major note in Ameeri, where it carries underneath Taif rose, and sandalwood appears again in Nawaab among eight other materials. A major note is not the same offer as a soliflore, and pretending otherwise is how people end up disappointed by a bottle that was described accurately. What to look for in a sandalwood description, if that is genuinely the hunt is a separate conversation.

So the third option is the only real one, and luckily it is also the best one. The trio is Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani as three 3ml bottles at ₹1,055, which is ₹118 less than buying those three 3mls separately. What makes it the right gift for a first oil is not the saving. It is that a set relocates the decision. You stop guessing which composition a person who has never worn an oil will take to, and they find out for themselves across three weeks. For a gift, that is the single most valuable property a product can have.

The honest caveat about the set, which you should know before you order. All three compositions in the trio carry oudh. Ameeri keeps it soft under rose and sandalwood; Mastani puts it under night-blooming jasmine and Damask rose; Nawaab is built on white royal oud and frames it with sandalwood, saffron, black pepper, cardamom, aged tobacco leaf, amber, leather and white musk. So the trio spans the second lightest composition we make up to the deepest, and it is not a neutral sampler of the whole range. The lightest of the four, Adaa, is not in it. If the person you are buying for leans fresh, clean and citrus, the better gift is a single Adaa 3ml at ₹379, and the set is the wrong purchase however good the arithmetic looks.

Never a 12ml, and this is the part of the page I would underline. A 12ml is ₹1,149 for Adaa, ₹1,165 for Ameeri, ₹1,179 for Mastani and ₹1,199 for Nawaab. Those are fair prices for a composition somebody has worn and decided on. As a gift to a person who has never worn a perfume oil in their life, a bottle that size is the worst available outcome, because you have converted a guess into a quantity. A large bottle of the wrong composition is a worse gift than a small bottle of the right one, and it is also worse than a small bottle of the wrong one, because at least the small wrong one is finished or forgotten quickly. The per-millilitre case for buying bigger is answered here and it does not survive contact with gifting.

What actually changes when somebody moves from a spray to an oil. Worth knowing, because this is the part of the gift that needs explaining when they open it. An attar is dabbed, not sprayed - every bottle has a built-in applicator, so the gesture is a touch at the pulse points rather than a cloud. It is alcohol-free, built on a DPG-free jojoba carrier, which is why it sits closer to the skin and does not announce itself across a room the way an alcoholic spray does. It runs 6-8 hours on skin, longer on warm or oily skin, and that is the only wear figure we publish for any of the four. All four are IFRA-compliant and hand-blended in small batches in Pune. None of that is difficult, but all of it is different, and somebody receiving their first oil will apply too much on day one almost without exception. Tell them to use less than they think.

How to choose between the set and a single bottle, in one question. Does this person enjoy trying things? Some people find three small bottles delightful and will work through them methodically. Others want one object, decided, and find a sampler faintly like homework. If they are the first kind, the trio. If they are the second kind, pick the single composition that best matches what they already wear and buy it at 3ml - and the method for matching one of the four to an existing collection is set out here.

And the thing nobody can do for you. A note list is not a smell. It describes what a composition is built around and roughly the order you meet it in; it carries no quantities, no grades and no information about how an oil will behave on one particular person's skin. On a gift that gap is wider than usual, because the skin in question is not even available for the experiment. The set is the honest response to a gap that size. So is the smallest bottle. A large bottle is not.
Two of your three options are not products: there is no standalone white musk attar and no standalone sandalwood attar in this range. The set is real - three 3ml bottles at ₹1,055 - and it is also the better gift, because it moves the choice from you to the person who has to wear it. Never a 12ml for a first oil.
If you will not guess, do not guess. The trio - Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani - is ₹1,055 at 3ml, which is three of the four compositions for ₹118 less than buying those three 3mls separately. It is the right purchase for somebody who has read the note lists and still cannot choose, and the wrong one for somebody who already knows which family they want.
The trio from ₹1,055

Three reasons the set beats a single bottle here

The arithmetic is the least interesting of the three. The other two are what make a set the right shape of gift for a first oil.

1
Whose choice
A set moves the decision to the person who wears it
This is the real argument and it has nothing to do with price. When you pick one composition for somebody who has never worn an oil, you are making a personal decision on their behalf with less information than they have. A set of three removes that: you supply the opportunity and they supply the preference. For a gift, that is worth more than any discount, and it is the reason the trio exists in a range of only four compositions.
Tip: Buy the chance to choose, not the choice itself.
2
The size
A 3ml makes being wrong almost free
A 3ml costs Rs 379 to Rs 399 and contains exactly the same liquid as the 12ml, which runs from ₹1,149 to ₹1,199. On a gift the large bottle is not generosity, it is a bigger bet on an unverified guess, and it leaves the recipient holding something they cannot politely admit they will not use. Three small bottles look and feel more considered than one large one anyway.
Tip: Keep the cost of a wrong guess under four hundred rupees.
3
What is in it
All three in the set carry oudh, so check the lean first
The trio is not a neutral sampler of the whole range. Ameeri keeps its oudh soft under rose and sandalwood, Mastani puts oudh under two flowers, and Nawaab is built on white royal oud with eight materials around it. The lightest composition we make, Adaa, is not in the set at all. If the recipient leans fresh and citrus, a single Adaa 3ml is the better gift and the set is the wrong one.
Tip: If they lean light, buy Adaa alone rather than the set.
The SOSA principle
A set does not just spread the risk. It moves the decision from the person buying to the person wearing, which is the most valuable thing a fragrance gift can do.
Three small bottles and a free choice beat one large bottle and your best guess.

What is in the set, and what is not

The trio is Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani as three 3ml bottles for ₹1,055, which is ₹118 less than those three 3mls bought separately. All three carry oudh, so the set runs from the second-lightest composition to the deepest. Adaa, the lightest of the four and the only one without oudh, is not in the set - as a single 3ml it is ₹379.

The SOSA attar range
The three options you asked about, plus the one that works
Option When it is the right call
A standalone white musk attar Not a product · white musk is the base of Adaa and one of nine materials in Nawaab
What to do: if musk and nothing else is the brief, we do not make it - Adaa is the nearest thing and its subject is the jasmine sambac
A standalone sandalwood attar Not a product · Indian sandalwood is a major note in Ameeri and in Nawaab
What to do: Ameeri is the nearest thing, with sandalwood carrying under Taif rose rather than leading the composition
The trio, three 3ml bottles ₹1,055 Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani · ₹118 less than those three 3mls separately · the recipient chooses
What to do: buy this if they enjoy trying things, and know that all three carry oudh
A single Adaa 3ml ₹379 Bergamot, green cardamom, jasmine sambac, white musk · no oudh · lightest of the four
What to do: buy this if they lean fresh and clean, because Adaa is the one composition the set leaves out

There is no standalone white musk attar and no standalone sandalwood attar in this range, so two of the three options in the question do not map to a product. All four compositions are alcohol-free, IFRA-compliant, built on a DPG-free jojoba carrier with a built-in dab applicator, hand-blended in small batches in Pune, and 6-8 hours on skin, longer on warm or oily skin.

The SOSA attar range

Every SOSA attar is alcohol-free and IFRA-compliant on a jojoba carrier with no DPG, hand-blended in small batches in Pune. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. There are four, and the honest way to read them is by depth - how much the base note is doing.

The SOSA attar range
Four attars, lightest to deepest - 3ml from ₹379
Attar Built on What it is, honestly 3ml
Adaa Bergamot, green cardamom, jasmine sambac, white musk The lightest of the four and the easiest first attar. Jasmine sambac is mogra, so this is also the mogra answer ₹379
Ameeri Taif rose, Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron, soft oudh The warm one. Rose and sandalwood doing most of the work, with the oudh kept soft ₹385
Mastani Night-blooming jasmine, Damask rose, oudh The most floral. A different jasmine and a different rose from Adaa and Ameeri ₹389
Nawaab White royal oud, sandalwood, saffron, tobacco leaf, amber, leather The deepest in the range. Not a first attar unless you already know you like oud ₹399
The trio Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani together Three of the four at once. The honest answer when you cannot choose and will not guess ₹1,055

Four honest notes. A note list is not a smell. Every composition above is described in the words we would use ourselves, and those words still cannot tell you how it will sit on your skin - which is the whole reason the 3ml exists. On the sizes: 3ml, 6ml and 12ml are the same liquid, and the only reason to buy the larger ones is that you already know. If you have not worn it, buy the smallest and let it earn the upgrade. On wear: all four are 6-8 hours on skin, longer on warm or oily skin, and that is the only figure we publish. We do not publish a drop count, a per-application cost, or a comparison with how long anybody else's fragrance lasts - including sprays. On what we do not make: there is no standalone musk, sandalwood, amber, tuberose, vetiver, khus, aquatic or tobacco attar in this range. Four compositions is the whole range, and where your answer is not one of them, this page will say so rather than talk you into the nearest thing.

A note from Sonal

Attars are the part of this business where the marketing is worst, and I would like ours to be the boring, accurate version. Most of the category sells a bottle on adjectives - royal, exotic, hypnotic, long-lasting - and on numbers nobody has measured. You cannot smell any of it before you pay, so the words are doing all the work, and almost nobody writes them honestly.

So here is what I will and will not tell you. I will tell you what is in each of the four, in the order you meet it, and that they wear 6-8 hours on my skin. I will not tell you that one of them smells expensive, or that it will turn heads, or that it lasts twelve hours, because I cannot know the first two about you and have not measured the third. The honest sequence is: read the notes, buy the 3ml, wear it for a week, and only then buy a size. If none of our four matches what you have described to yourself, I would rather say so than sell you the nearest one.

The other thing worth knowing is how little you need. An attar is concentrated oil, and the commonest mistake is wearing it like a spray - a long press at the neck and another at the wrists. One dab at a pulse point is the dose. Two if you want it read across a dinner table. Do not rub it in; oil opens with warmth, and rubbing crushes the top of it. That is the entire dial, and most people never need the top of it. A portion of every order supports girl-child education.

Frequently asked questions

Does SOSA make a white musk attar or a sandalwood attar?
No. There are four SOSA attars and none of them is either of those. White musk is the base of Adaa and one of nine materials in Nawaab; Indian sandalwood is a major note in Ameeri and appears again in Nawaab. In every case the material is part of a composition rather than its subject. If a pure musk or a pure sandalwood is genuinely the brief, we do not make it and would rather tell you than sell you the closest bottle.
Is a set a better first attar gift than a single bottle?
Usually, yes, and the reason is not the price. A set moves the decision from you to the person who has to wear it, which is the hardest problem in fragrance gifting solved in one purchase. The trio is three 3ml bottles for Rs 1,055, which is Rs 118 less than those three 3mls bought separately. The exception is a recipient who dislikes trying things and wants one decided object, in which case pick the single composition nearest what they already wear.
Why not buy a 12ml so they do not run out?
Because running out is not the problem a first-time oil wearer has. A 12ml is Rs 1,149 to Rs 1,199 and it is the right purchase after somebody has worn a composition and chosen it. Bought before that, it is simply a larger quantity of an unverified guess, and it leaves the recipient with an object they have to keep. The 3ml holds the same liquid and settles the question in a week.
Are all three attars in the set similar?
They share a spine and differ in weight. All three carry oudh: soft under Taif rose and Indian sandalwood in Ameeri, under night-blooming jasmine and Damask rose in Mastani, and as white royal oud framed by eight materials in Nawaab. So the set runs from the second lightest composition in the range to the deepest, which is a genuine spread of depth rather than three variations on one idea. What it does not include is the lightest, Adaa.
What should I tell them when they open it?
Three things. Dab rather than spray, because the applicator is built into the cap and the oil is meant for pulse points. Use less than feels natural, because a first oil is almost always overapplied on day one. And give it a few hours before deciding, because the composition keeps moving across the 6-8 hours it runs on skin and the first ten minutes are not the fragrance.

About this guide:
  • Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the fragrance-family guidance applies to any brand. SOSA does not sort fragrance by the gender of the wearer.

What this guide does not claim.
  • An attar is a fragrance and nothing else.
A note list is not a smell
  • - it names what a composition is built from and the order you meet it in, which is a description of an intention rather than a measurement, and it is
not a substitute for wearing it
  • . Nothing here should be read as advice about health, allergies or anyone's wellbeing, and no fragrance on this page is claimed to affect anybody's mood, comfort, confidence or state of mind. Where a reader describes a preference none of our four compositions matches, these guides say so and sell nothing.

SOSA attars, specified:
  • four compositions -
Adaa
  • (bergamot, green cardamom, jasmine sambac, white musk),
Ameeri
  • (Taif rose, Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron, soft oudh),
Mastani
  • (night-blooming jasmine, Damask rose, oudh) and
Nawaab
  • (white royal oud, sandalwood, saffron, black pepper, cardamom, aged tobacco leaf, amber, leather, white musk). All four are

On wear.
  • SOSA publishes one figure:
6-8 hours on skin, longer on warm or oily skin
  • . SOSA does not publish a drop count, a cost per application, a projection rating, or any comparison with how long another format or another company's fragrance lasts. Where a customer review reports a different number, that is one person's experience of their own skin and not a measurement SOSA stands behind.

On what is in the bottle.
  • The composition lists above name the materials a fragrance is built from. They are not a statement of grade, percentage or geographic origin, and this guide makes no claim about either. Where origin or grade matters to you, ask before you buy - that is a fair question and the answer belongs to the product page rather than to an article.

On other companies.
  • Where another fragrance brand is named in these guides it is because a reader named it, and the page answers what they asked. Nothing here states what any other company's product contains, how long it lasts, what it costs or how it performs.
Other brands named are the property of their respective owners · SOSA is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or associated with any other fragrance company named on this page
  • , and no other company has reviewed or approved this content. If a product you already own suits you, keep it - several pages in this guide say exactly that.
