The instinct behind this question is sound: arrival should be the moment the showroom introduces itself, and the inside should be calmer. What goes wrong is the method - people set out to build the strong arrival, when the arrival is the one part of the building that will not hold what you put into it.
Quick answers — read this first
Should a kitchen showroom use a strong arrival scent and softer fragrance deeper inside? A falling gradient is right; a manufactured strong arrival is not. Those sound the same and they are opposites. One source produces a gradient by itself - strongest near the machine, weaker as you move away - and if the machine sits towards the front of the floor, the arrival is naturally the most present moment of the visit. That is free. What you must not do is deliberately push the entrance up, because the interior then has to rise with it.

Why does engineering the arrival fail? Because of the door. A glass entrance is an air exchange, not a wall - it opens every few minutes, and the air near it is constantly being swapped with the air outside. Fragrance aimed at the threshold is largely thrown into the car park. Meanwhile the only way to raise the entrance from a single source is to raise the whole machine, which pushes the display floor and the consultation area up too - and the consultation area is the one place that must not go up.

So what is the correct setup and what does it cost? One source, placed inward from the door and upstream on the air path, roughly a metre up and out of the AC return's pull. Past about 1,500 sq ft that is one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999. Under about 750 sq ft, one SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899 and a Vaayu would be the wrong buy. One machine, not two.
The short answer
Short answer: a falling gradient is right and a manufactured strong arrival is wrong. One source placed inward from the door gives you strongest-near-the-front and quieter-deeper-in for nothing. Engineering the entrance upwards throws fragrance out through a glass door and forces the interior, including the consultation area, to rise with it. One Vaayu at ₹11,999, or a Sukoon at ₹1,899 under 750 sq ft.
The pick: one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) placed inward from the entrance and upstream on the air path, producing the whole gradient from one position, or one SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) in a single-room showroom under about 750 sq ft.
Next step: send the floor plan showing the entrance, where the air enters and where the consultation area sits, and we will mark where the single source goes - Ask for a retail scenting plan.
Arrival and interior, in five linesA falling gradient is right and it is freeOne source, placed inward from the doorDo not engineer the entrance upwardsA glass door exchanges that air anywayRaising the arrival raises the consultation too
The difference between the right answer and the wrong one is whether the gradient is something you allow or something you build. One of those costs nothing and the other costs the interior.

Straight answer
Should a kitchen showroom use a strong arrival scent and a softer fragrance deeper inside?
Half of this is right and the half that is wrong is the half people act on, so let me separate them carefully. The shape is right. A showroom that is a little more present at the entrance and quieter at the consultation area is exactly what you want, because arrival is a brief moment and the consultation is a long one, and the level should follow the dwell. The method is wrong. People try to produce that shape by making the entrance strong, and there are two reasons that fails, either of which is sufficient. First, you already have the gradient and it costs nothing. A single source does not fill a room evenly - it is most present near the machine and falls away with distance and air movement, and that fall is not a defect, it is the natural behaviour of air. Put one machine towards the front of the display floor, upstream on the air path, and the arrival is automatically the most present moment of the visit while the far end where the consultation table sits is automatically the quietest. That is the curve you were trying to build, produced by the building rather than by a purchase. Second, the entrance will not hold what you put into it. A kitchen showroom's front is usually glass and it opens constantly - customers, deliveries, the team, the courier - and a door is an air exchange rather than a wall. Air near a threshold is being swapped with the street every few minutes, which means fragrance aimed at the door is largely thrown into the car park. That is why placing a machine at the entrance is the most common placement error in this vertical. Put it inward from the door, where the air stays long enough to carry the profile, and let the threshold be what it is: a transitional strip that will always read weaker than you would like, in every showroom, including the very good ones. Now the important consequence, and this is the sentence I would underline. With one machine, you cannot raise the entrance without raising everything else. There is one dial, and turning it up to force a big arrival moment pushes the display floor and the consultation area up with it - and the consultation area is where a customer sits for sixty to ninety minutes while exposure accumulates. You would be buying a three-second impression with the last half-hour of a long meeting. That trade is never worth making, and it is the mechanism by which showrooms end up over-scented while nobody has decided to over-scent anything. The other route people try is a second machine at the door to lift the arrival while the floor stays low. Do not. Two sources in one connected volume do not add up to a designed profile; they meet, and the meeting point is a seam somewhere in an aisle where a customer walks through a change they cannot account for. A second machine belongs to a second volume of air - another floor, its own AC zone, a room with a door that shuts - never to a second corner of the same display floor. On register, nothing changes between the door and the desk, because they share air. It is the showroom's one profile: dry, clean and material-led - dry woods, something green or herbal, a dry tea, clean mineral - and nothing edible at all. A different fragrance at the entrance would be a second profile in the same volume and would mix, and in any case our own Fresh Brew, coffee and vanilla at ₹849, is exactly the register to avoid at any point in a kitchen showroom. Hardware: past about 1,500 sq ft, one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 - rated to 1000m³, waterless, under 38dB, on 1h/4h/8h/24h timers and key-locked, which matters here because the entrance is exactly where somebody standing with the door open will conclude it needs turning up. Under about 750 sq ft, one SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899 and a Vaayu would be the wrong buy. Judge the whole gradient from the consultation seat at minute ninety, not from the threshold. Three limits: fragrance is never a mask for laminate, adhesive or new joinery; anybody must be able to switch it off in seconds; and plainly, no one can promise you that a strong arrival scent moves footfall, enquiries, order value or a customer's decision, and a supplier offering you a figure for it is selling. Ask for a retail scenting plan and send the floor plan.
The falling gradient is right and free; the manufactured strong arrival is wrong and expensive. One source inward from the door, never at it, and never a second unit to lift the entrance. ₹11,999 past 1,500 sq ft, ₹1,899 under 750.
One SOSA Vaayu, placed inward from the entrance - rated to 1000m³ so one unit makes the whole gradient, key-locked against the person who judges it from the doorway, and on 1h/4h/8h/24h timers. ₹11,999. Under about 750 sq ft the honest buy is the Sukoon at ₹1,899, placed by the same rule.

The machine that makes the gradient

Two honest answers by size, and one placement rule for both: inward from the door, upstream on the air path, never at the threshold.

SOSA Vaayu
A display floor past about 1,500 sq ft
SOSA Vaayu
Waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, roughly 2,000-3,000 sq ft. 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill, Bluetooth app with 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, under 38dB, 5W, auto-stop and key-lock. One unit placed inward from the entrance produces the whole arrival-to-consultation gradient without a second machine anywhere.
From ₹11,999
SOSA Sukoon
Under about 750 sq ft - buy this instead
SOSA Sukoon
Ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering roughly 270-320 sq ft, supplied with three 15ml fragrances. In a single-room showroom the same rule applies: inward from the door, at the opposite end from where customers sit, and run at the bottom of its range.
From ₹1,899
SOSA Vaayu
One machine, one gradient, no seams
SOSA Vaayu
1000m³ coverage (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft), 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill, Bluetooth app and 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, under 38dB, 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mount, auto-stop and key-lock. CE, RoHS and SGS certified. Made in India. Cold-air refill oil is not currently sold separately - the machine ships with 400ml and further supply should be confirmed with SOSA.

The three things to understand about the entrance

Two of them explain why the strong arrival cannot be bought, and the third explains what it would cost you if it could.

1
Let the gradient happen
One source is naturally strongest near itself, and that is the curve you wanted
People imagine even coverage is the goal and then separately wish for a stronger entrance, which are contradictory wishes. In fact a single machine gives you neither perfect evenness nor a flat room - it gives you a gentle fall from the source outwards, and a gentle fall reads as natural because it is how air actually behaves in every building anybody has ever walked into. Put the source towards the front of the floor and the gradient does the arrival-to-interior shape for you, with one setting, one profile and one purchase. The work is choosing the position, not choosing a strength, and the position is decided by where air enters the room rather than by the floor plan.
Tip: Find where air enters with a tissue at the grilles before choosing the spot.

2
Accept the threshold
A glass door is an air exchange, so fragrance aimed at it goes outside
Entrances in this vertical are almost always glass and they open constantly. That means the air within a few metres of the door is being swapped with the street all day, and anything you deliberately push into that strip largely leaves the building. It is why a machine placed at the entrance is the most common placement mistake I correct, and why an entrance will always read a little weaker than the middle of the floor no matter what you spend. Place inward, accept the threshold as a transition, and stop compensating at the dial. The customer is not making up their mind in the doorway; they are making it up at a table forty feet further in.
Tip: If you can smell it strongly standing outside the door, it is going into the car park.

One Vaayu ₹11,999, set once and left alone, is the whole hardware side of this.

3
Count what a big arrival costs
With one machine there is one dial, and the consultation area pays for the entrance
This is the argument that ends the discussion. Turning the machine up to force a strong entrance also turns up the display floor and the consultation area, because they share air and there is only one control. The consultation area is where a customer sits for sixty to ninety minutes with exposure accumulating, so you would be trading the last half-hour of a long meeting for a three-second impression at the door. Adding a second unit at the entrance instead does not fix it either: two sources in one connected volume meet rather than add, and the meeting point is a seam in an aisle. A second machine belongs to a second volume of air - never a second corner of the same floor.
Tip: Judge the whole gradient from the consultation chair at minute ninety.

The SOSA principle
The falling gradient people want is not something you buy, it is something you stop preventing - and every attempt to build it deliberately is paid for by the room where customers stay longest.
Arrival is three seconds. The consultation is ninety minutes. Only one of them should be setting the dial.
SOSA Vaayu
One source, one curve: Rated to 1000m³, the Vaayu makes the whole arrival-to-consultation gradient from a single position. ₹11,999.

The plan from door to desk

The gradient written down as a plan, so nobody has to rediscover it by turning the machine up.

The SOSA plan
Arrival to consultation, with one source
The point on the route What to do
The pavement and threshold
Expect very little, and do not chase it. The door exchanges this air with the street constantly, so anything aimed here leaves the building.
SOSA VaayuA few metres inside
Where the source goes: upstream on the air path, about a metre up, out of the AC return, inward from the door. This is the most present point of the visit.
The main display floor
The profile, falling gently with distance. One volume, one fragrance, one setting - display kitchens do not get personalities of their own.
The consultation area
The quiet end of the gradient, which is exactly right for the longest dwell. No source of its own, and the level for the whole floor is judged from this seat.
SOSA SukoonA second machine
Only for a second volume of air - another floor, its own AC zone, a room with a door. Never a second corner of the same display floor.

The reason the consultation end must never be pushed up is set out in how to keep a kitchen showroom fragrant without making long consultations uncomfortable, and the level itself is worked out in how strong fragrance should be when customers spend sixty to ninety minutes choosing a kitchen. The full method sits in how to scent a kitchen studio without distracting customers during design consultations. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel.

SOSA Vaayu
A lock against the doorway judgement: Key-lock keeps the setting you chose from the chair, not the one somebody chose standing at the entrance. ₹11,999.
One machine, and the gradient it makes for nothing
SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 covers up to 1000m³, so a single unit inward from the door does the arrival and the interior together.
See the SOSA Vaayu Book a scenting plan
Everybody wants the entrance to announce something. The entrance is the one part of your showroom that is half outdoors, and it will give most of your fragrance back to the street whatever you spend.

The SOSA showroom specification

Two machines cover almost every kitchen showroom, and in both cases the gradient comes from placement rather than from a second purchase. Cold-air refill oil for the Vaayu is not currently sold separately, so the 400ml supplied runs 90+ days a fill and continuity of supply should be confirmed with SOSA before a rollout. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Allow the gradient rather than building it, place the source inward from a door that is exchanging air all day, and never lift the entrance at the cost of the consultation end. Ambient scent here is a presentation decision like the lighting over your sample tray; it is never a mask for laminate, adhesive or new joinery, which need ventilation and curing time instead; and no one can promise you that scent moves a business number, so a supplier quoting you one is selling rather than advising. A note from Sonal

I like this question because the person asking it has already noticed something true. Arrival and the consultation table are different moments and they should not feel identical. Where it goes wrong is in the assumption that a difference has to be manufactured, when in fact any single machine produces one automatically - stronger near itself, softer further away - and all you are choosing is where to stand it.

The entrance also deserves less effort than it gets. A glass front that opens every few minutes is half outdoors, and fragrance aimed at it is mostly a donation to the pavement. Worse, the only lever you have for lifting it is the same lever that lifts the consultation area, where somebody is sitting for ninety minutes. I would not spend the last half-hour of a long meeting to buy three seconds at the door, and I do not think you would either once it is put that way.

On hardware: one Vaayu at ₹11,999 for a floor past about 1,500 sq ft, or a Sukoon at ₹1,899 under 750, placed inward from the door and never at it. A second machine belongs to a second volume of air and nowhere else. Fragrance is never a substitute for ventilation, nobody can promise you a commercial result, and a showroom still smelling of its own fit-out should trade unscented until that has gone. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

Should a kitchen showroom use a strong arrival scent and softer fragrance deeper inside?
A falling gradient is right, and manufacturing one is wrong. A single source is naturally most present near itself and weaker further away, so placing one machine towards the front of the floor gives you the arrival-to-interior curve for nothing. Deliberately pushing the entrance up is the part to avoid, because with one machine there is one dial and the interior rises with it.
Why shouldn't I put the machine at the entrance?
Because a glass door is an air exchange rather than a wall. The air within a few metres of a constantly opening entrance is being swapped with the street all day, so fragrance aimed at the threshold largely leaves the building. Place the machine inward from the door and upstream on the air path, where the air stays long enough to carry the profile across the floor.
Can I add a second machine near the door to lift the arrival?
No. Two sources in one connected volume do not add up to a designed profile; they meet, and the meeting point is a seam in an aisle where a customer walks through a change they cannot account for. A second machine belongs to a second volume of air, meaning another floor, its own air-conditioning zone or a room with a door that shuts.
What does raising the entrance cost me?
The consultation area. With one machine there is one control, so turning it up for a bigger arrival also raises the display floor and the table where a customer sits for sixty to ninety minutes with exposure accumulating. You would be buying a three-second impression at the door with the last half-hour of a long meeting, which is never a trade worth making.
Does a strong entrance scent bring more people into the showroom?
No one can promise that, and I will not. SOSA has run no research that would support a figure, and there is no honest way to separate ambient scent from the window display, the signage, the location and everything else a passer-by sees. What is certain is the physical part: a constantly opening glass door exchanges that air with the street regardless of your setting.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the planning advice applies to any brand.

Facts verified 5 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with adjustable intensity, a 400ml refillable tank lasting 90+ days a fill depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, operation under 38dB at 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification, which are electrical and compliance marks and not medical approvals. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or equipment. The SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is an ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering roughly 270-320 sq ft and is supplied with three 15ml fragrances; the water-based Hotel Collection (₹299 / ₹999 / ₹1,799) is an ultrasonic fragrance and is not a refill for a waterless cold-air machine. SOSA reed diffusers are alcohol-free and phthalate-free, with 50ml lasting about 6-8 weeks and 130ml about 14-18 weeks. Cold-air refill oil for the Vaayu is not currently sold separately - the machine ships with 400ml included and further refills should be confirmed with SOSA. Warranty, annual maintenance, installation and bulk terms are not published and should be confirmed before ordering. Ambient scent is an interior and hospitality decision: it makes no clinical, therapeutic or wellbeing claim, it works alongside proper ventilation, cleaning and infection control and is never a substitute for any of them, it is never used to mask another smell, and no claim is made that fragrance influences a patient's decision or any commercial outcome. Clinical areas including procedure, post-procedure and photography rooms are left unscented, and the treating clinician's judgement overrides any scenting plan in their own room. The hotel-inspired scents are SOSA's own original interpretations; SOSA is an independent brand and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any hotel named for reference.
