Of all the rooms anybody asks me about, this is the one SOSA has actually written for. Evening Calm lists the guest room among its own rooms, in its own published copy, worded as "Somewhere calm to arrive into", and describes who it is for as guest-room hosts who want visitors to exhale on arrival. So the answer to your question is an unqualified yes, and the only real decisions left are the size, the reed count and when your parents should start it.
Quick answers — read this first
Would a reed diffuser make a good gift for a parents' guest bedroom? Yes, and it is the cleanest version of this recommendation there is. Evening Calm 50ML at ₹799 publishes the guest room in its own room list.

What size and how many reeds? The 50ML, on all six reeds. SOSA's rule puts bedrooms up to about 150 sq ft on the 50ML, and no softer 3-reed setting is published for this scent.

When should they start it? The week before the next visit. Nothing happens until the reeds go into the oil, so the 6 to 8 weeks begins whenever your parents choose, not on the day you hand it over.
The short answer
Short answer: yes, and specifically Evening Calm 50ML at ₹799. It is the only SOSA scent whose published room list includes the guest room, it is published as safe for sealed AC bedrooms and night-long use, and its projection is tuned for compact, restful spaces rather than large open halls.
How to set it up: all six fibre reeds, because the 3-reed softer setting is published for Morning Freshness and Garden Bloom only and this scent is calibrated around its full six. Flip the reeds once a week, which is what Evening Calm's own page instructs.
The useful bit nobody says: the 6 to 8 weeks starts when the reeds go in, not when the box is opened. For a room used a few nights a month, tell your parents to keep the reeds in the packet and start the bottle the week before the next visit.
Straight answer
Is a reed diffuser a thoughtful gift for a guest bedroom that relatives use overnight?
1. Yes, and this is the room the product is published for. Evening Calm names the guest room in its own room list, alongside the bedroom, the reading nook and the evening bath, and words it "Somewhere calm to arrive into." No other SOSA scent claims that room.

2. Buy the 50ML at ₹799. SOSA publishes one size rule: 50ML for bedrooms up to about 150 sq ft, lasting 6 to 8 weeks; 130ML for kitchens, living rooms and open-plan spaces above that. A dedicated guest bedroom is the first case almost every time.

3. Use all six reeds. The 3-reed softer setting is published for Morning Freshness and Garden Bloom only. Evening Calm is published as tuned for compact, restful spaces, so its full six reeds is the strength it was designed around.

4. Tell them to start it the week before a visit. A sealed bottle waits indefinitely. The 6 to 8 weeks only begins when the reeds go in, which means a room used a few nights a month can be scented for every visit without the bottle running through the empty weeks in between.

5. Put it on the dresser, not the bedside table. SOSA's refills page says to keep the oil out of reach of children and pets and to place it on a protected surface. In a room where grandchildren sometimes sleep, the higher surface is the right one.

And a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
TL;DR: Evening Calm 50ML at ₹799, all six reeds, on the dresser, started the week before the next visit. It is the published guest-room scent and the room needs nothing else.

Lavender, chamomile and soft musk on 6 fibre reeds in a refillable glass bottle, alcohol-free and flame-free, needing no power point. SOSA lists the guest room among its rooms, with the lines "Somewhere calm to arrive into" and "Safe for sealed AC bedrooms, night-long use, guest rooms", and states the projection is tuned for compact, restful spaces rather than large open halls. The 50ML runs 6 to 8 weeks; flip the reeds once a week.

The one room SOSA has actually written for

I want to separate two things that usually get mixed together in gift guides. There is what a fragrance brand will cheerfully tell you a product is good for, and there is what it has actually published as the product's room. For guest bedrooms those happen to be the same thing here, which is unusual and worth using. Evening Calm's own page lists the guest room in its best-rooms line, puts "Safe for sealed AC bedrooms, night-long use, guest rooms" in its specification table, and describes its buyer as a guest-room host who wants visitors to exhale on arrival.

That matters because a dedicated guest bedroom is a genuinely odd room, and most fragrance advice is written for rooms that are used every day. A guest bedroom is shut for three weeks and then occupied intensely for two nights. It is usually the smallest bedroom. It is frequently air-conditioned and sealed while somebody is in it. Every one of those characteristics argues for a soft scent in a small bottle rather than for anything ambitious, and that is precisely what this scent is calibrated for.

1
The arrival
A guest forms their view of the room in the doorway
Your parents will have made the bed properly, put out a towel and cleared a shelf. What they cannot do with any of those is change the first breath somebody takes on walking in, which after a long journey is the thing a visitor actually notices. That is the gap a reed fills, and it is the only channel in the room nobody has already worked on.
The test: would your aunt notice this in the first ten seconds, with a bag still in her hand? Fragrance is one of the few things that qualifies.
2
Sealed rooms
A closed, air-conditioned bedroom holds scent easily
A small sealed room needs far less fragrance than an open one, because nothing is escaping. SOSA publishes Evening Calm as safe for sealed AC bedrooms and night-long use, and separately says it is built for the space you sleep in rather than a lobby that needs filling. In a compact guest bedroom that is the correct engineering, not a limitation.
3
No power, no flame
Nothing for a guest to operate or forget
A visitor should not have to work out how anything in the room functions, and nobody should be leaving something burning in a room they are sleeping in. A reed is alcohol-free, flame-free and needs no socket, which in most Indian guest bedrooms is also a practical point, because the one free socket is already spoken for by a phone.

Size, reed count and the honest reason for six

Size first. SOSA publishes one rule for the whole range: 50ML suits bathrooms, bedrooms and home offices up to about 150 sq ft and lasts 6 to 8 weeks; 130ML suits kitchens, living rooms and open-plan spaces above 150 sq ft and lasts 14 to 18 weeks. A dedicated guest bedroom in a family home is almost always the first case, so the 50ML at ₹799 is the buy. The 130ML at ₹1,299 is for a room that is genuinely large, and in a small room it is not better value, it is simply more than the room wants.

Reed count second, and this is where being accurate matters. SOSA publishes a 3-reed softer setting on two scents only, Morning Freshness and Garden Bloom. Evening Calm publishes no such setting: its instruction is to drop all six fibre reeds in, let them soak for an hour, and flip them once a week. So use six. You can physically remove reeds if a particular room reads strong, but that is your adjustment rather than a published setting, and the scent was tuned around its full six in a compact room.

The principle
In a small sealed bedroom, the room does half the work. Buy less, not more.
Which is why the 50ML is the correct bottle here and not the cheaper-looking option.

Start it the week before, not the day it arrives

Here is the most useful thing you can pass on with this gift, and it takes one sentence. A reed diffuser does nothing at all until the reeds go into the oil. The bottle is sealed, the reeds are in a separate packet, and the 6 to 8 weeks of life begins on insertion day rather than on purchase day. Your parents can therefore put the box in a cupboard and start it the week before their next set of visitors.

This solves the one real awkwardness of putting a continuous product in an occasional room. A reed cannot be switched off, reset between visitors, metered or scheduled: once it is running, it runs until it is finished, whether anybody is staying or not. In a short-let with paying guests that is a genuine operating problem. In a family guest bedroom it is simply a timing question, and the answer is to start the bottle deliberately rather than immediately.

One practical detail worth mentioning to them: the reeds need about an hour in the oil before the first flip, which is SOSA's published instruction for this scent. So the week before is plenty, and the morning of is fine too as long as it is done at breakfast rather than as the doorbell goes.

The guest-room scent, the alternative, and the refill

Why I would not buy the refill for this room

SOSA sells reed refill oil in all five scents at ₹2,399 for 300ML and ₹3,499 for 500ML, and on most pages I would tell you to buy it, because per ml it is a long way under a fresh bottle and hardly anybody finds the listing. For this particular room I would not, and it is worth explaining why rather than quietly upselling.

A refill pays for itself when a bottle is running continuously and needs topping up several times. A guest bedroom that hosts relatives a few nights a month, with the bottle started deliberately before visits, will not get through 300ML of oil in any sensible timeframe, and 300ML is the smallest container that exists: there is no 50ML or 130ML refill. So the honest recommendation for your parents is one 50ML bottle now, and another when it runs out. The refill becomes the right purchase if they start running it all year, or if they are scenting two or three rooms rather than one.

The right size for a guest bedroom is the small one. The right amount of oil for an occasional room is less than you would think.

If your parents do not like lavender

It happens, and it is worth asking before you buy rather than after. The clean alternative is Garden Bloom at ₹799, British rose with night-blooming jasmine, which is SOSA's most-gifted reed. Its published rooms include the bedroom, and it is the one scent besides Morning Freshness that publishes the 3-reed softer setting, so it can be run deliberately quiet in a small bedroom by using three of the six reeds instead of all of them.

What I would not do is claim either scent does anything for anybody's sleep. SOSA's own Evening Calm page is explicit that it makes no medical claims, and I follow that page rather than the ones that get enthusiastic on its behalf. Soft, quiet and restful are descriptions of a smell. They are not promises about a night, and the gift does not need them to be.

The SOSA edit for one guest bedroom

All five SOSA reeds are alcohol-free, flame-free and need no power point. For a single guest bedroom, only one of them publishes the room by name, and one other is the sensible alternative if lavender is wrong.

The SOSA edit for a dedicated guest bedroom
One published room, one alternative, one honest no
Product SOSA's published room Why for this room 50ML
Evening Calm Guest room: Somewhere calm to arrive into; also bedroom, reading nook, evening bath, meditation corner The only scent that publishes the guest room. Safe for sealed AC bedrooms and night-long use, tuned for compact restful spaces rather than large open halls, all 6 reeds, flipped weekly. 130ML ₹1,299 ₹799
Garden Bloom Entryway, living room, bedroom with 3 reeds, hallways The alternative if lavender is wrong. SOSA's most-gifted reed, and it publishes the 3-reed softer setting, so it can be run quiet in a small bedroom. 130ML ₹1,299 ₹799
Reed diffuser refills All five scents, 300ML and 500ML, oil only Not for this room. 300ML at ₹2,399 is the smallest container there is, and an occasional guest bedroom will not get through it. Buy it when a bottle runs all year or several rooms are scented from ₹2,399
Honest notes: SOSA's Evening Calm page states plainly that it makes no medical claims, and nothing here should be read as one: soft, quiet and restful describe a scent, not an effect on anybody. A reed adds scent to the air and does not treat it, so a guest room that smells shut needs airing before it needs fragrance. A reed cannot be switched off, reset between visitors, metered or scheduled: once the reeds are in, a 50ML runs continuously for 6 to 8 weeks, which is why the useful advice is to start it the week before a visit. SOSA publishes one size rule, 50ML up to about 150 sq ft and 130ML above it. The 3-reed softer setting is published for Morning Freshness and Garden Bloom only, not for Evening Calm. SOSA's refills page says to keep the oil out of reach of children and pets and to place it on a protected surface, as with any reed diffuser oil, which matters in a room grandchildren sometimes sleep in. A note from Sonal

My mother keeps her guest room ready in a way I find slightly intimidating. Sheets changed before anybody has confirmed they are coming. A jug on the table. And, for years, a room that was immaculate and smelled of absolutely nothing, because the door had been shut since March.

That is the gap. Not cleanliness, not comfort, not effort. The first breath. It is the one part of a guest room that cannot be prepared in advance by a person, and it is the part a tired visitor registers before they have put the bag down.

So: one 50ML of Evening Calm, all six reeds, on the dresser rather than the bedside table, started the week before whoever is coming arrives. Not the refill, not the big bottle, not two scents. One small correct thing. And a girl gets a classroom through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

Would a reed diffuser make a thoughtful gift specifically for a guest bedroom?
Yes, and this is the clearest case in the whole range, because SOSA publishes the guest room as one of Evening Calm's own rooms. Its page words it as somewhere calm to arrive into, puts safe for sealed AC bedrooms, night-long use, guest rooms in its specification table, and describes the buyer as a guest-room host who wants visitors to exhale on arrival. Buy the 50ML at ₹799 and use all six reeds.
What size reed diffuser suits a guest bedroom in a family home?
The 50ML. SOSA publishes one size rule for the range: 50ML for bathrooms, bedrooms and home offices up to about 150 sq ft, lasting 6 to 8 weeks, and 130ML for kitchens, living rooms and open-plan spaces above 150 sq ft, lasting 14 to 18 weeks. A dedicated guest bedroom is almost always the first case, and in a small sealed room the 130ML at ₹1,299 is not better value, it is simply more than the room wants.
Should the diffuser be started as soon as it is given?
No, and this is the most useful thing to pass on with it. A reed does nothing until the reeds go into the oil, and the 6 to 8 weeks of life starts then rather than on the day the box is opened. For a room used a few nights a month, keep the reeds in their packet and start the bottle the week before the next visit. SOSA's instruction for this scent is to let the reeds soak for about an hour before the first flip, then flip them once a week.
How many reeds should go in for a guest bedroom?
All six. SOSA publishes a 3-reed softer setting on two scents only, Morning Freshness and Garden Bloom, and Evening Calm is not one of them: its published instruction is to drop all six fibre reeds in. The scent is described as tuned for compact, restful spaces rather than large open halls, so its full six reeds is the strength it was calibrated around. You can remove reeds if a particular room reads strong, but that is your adjustment rather than a published setting.
Is it worth buying a refill as well?
For this room, no, and I would rather say so. A 300ML refill at ₹2,399 is the smallest container SOSA sells, since no 50ML or 130ML refill exists, and a guest bedroom used a few nights a month with the bottle started deliberately will not work through that much oil in a sensible timeframe. Buy one 50ML now and another when it finishes. The refill becomes the right purchase when a bottle runs all year, or when two or three rooms are being scented.
