The case for one scent
My honest default is one scent. A single fragrance running through a home is what creates the feeling of a signature in the first place - that sense of a place with one clear identity. It is also the easiest to maintain: one reed diffuser in the main living space, topped up, and you are done.
One scent also avoids the most common mistake: clashing at doorways. When a coffee room opens onto a floral room, the threshold smells confused. One scent simply never has this problem.
The case for several
That said, several scents earn their place in two situations. The first is a large home, where one diffuser cannot realistically carry every room, so you naturally need more points of scent - and they may as well be chosen to harmonise. The second is when you truly enjoy zoning: a calm bedroom, a fresh bathroom, a warm dining room.

And whichever route you take, remember the constant truth: scent sets the mood of a room, it does not clean its air.
