I work in hospitality and regularly interact with guests: which low-projection attar profiles should I consider if fragrance is permitted at work?

SOSA Founder Diaries · Safar ownership

Here is the operational fact nobody writes down: in hospitality the guest leans in. A lobby is loud, a restaurant is louder, and the person asking you something closes the distance themselves so they can hear the answer. Which means whatever you are wearing arrives before your sentence does. That is a real feature of your working day, and it is also the exact point at which this page has to tell you that SOSA publishes no figure for it, in either direction.

By Sonal Sahani, founder and perfumer · 9 minute read · SOSA Home & Body, Pune

Published: self-assigned strength scores out of ten - Adaa 8.5, Ameeri 9.0, Mastani 9.2, Nawaab 9.5 - a wear time of 6 to 8 hours on skin, and a built-in dab applicator. Adaa Rs 379 / Rs 669 / Rs 1,149, 4.9 from 98 published customer reviews, occasion line office hours, business lunches, meetings. Not published: any projection or sillage figure, any low-projection label, and any venue's rule.

Answer in brief

  • Which attar is the low-projection one? None of them is labelled that, because no such label exists in the range. SOSA publishes no projection figure and no sillage figure for any attar, so no page of mine will turn a strength figure into a distance. What is published is a self-assigned score out of ten, and the lowest of the four is Adaa at 8.5, at ₹379 for 3ml.
  • A guest leans in to hear me. What does the record say about that? Nothing, and that is the honest answer rather than a dodge. No figure exists for what anybody at any distance will pick up, and none exists for the opposite either. The variable you actually hold is the dab: the amount is set by your hand at the moment of application.
  • What is published that does help? Adaa's published strength figure is 8.5, the lightest end of the range. All four publish the same wear time, 6 to 8 hours on skin, longer on warm or oily skin, and nothing beyond that figure is published. And adaa publishes its occasion line as office hours, business lunches, daytime weddings, meetings and summer wear.

The short answer

No attar in the SOSA range carries a low-projection label, because SOSA publishes no projection figure and no sillage figure at all. What is published is a self-assigned strength score out of ten - Adaa 8.5, Ameeri 9.0, Mastani 9.2, Nawaab 9.5 - a wear time of 6 to 8 hours on skin, and a built-in dab applicator that puts the amount in your hand. Adaa, at Rs 379 for 3ml with 4.9 from 98 published customer reviews, is the lightest published score and the only occasion line naming office hours.

You wrote the right conditional: if fragrance is permitted at work. That is the correct order and it is the one input I cannot supply. Your own employer's rule is the one that decides this, and it is the one thing here you have to check yourself. No hotel, restaurant or venue rule appears anywhere on this page, because I have not read any of them.

  5. Questions people ask

I work in hospitality and interact with guests all day. Which low-projection attar profiles should I consider if fragrance is permitted at work?

Your question contains a fact about your job that most fragrance pages never reach, so let me put it at the front where it belongs. In hospitality the other person closes the distance. A guest at a desk leans in because the lobby is loud; a guest at a table leans in because they do not want to repeat themselves; and in both cases what you are wearing gets there before your answer does. You are not deciding how a fragrance behaves across a room - you are deciding what happens in the half-second before you speak. That is a sharper question than the one most people ask, and I have to give you a straight answer about it: there is no published figure for it. SOSA publishes no projection figure and no sillage figure for any attar, so no page of mine will turn a strength figure into a distance. That cuts both ways, and this is the sentence the whole cluster wants me to break. A page that promised you one of these carries to the next person, or promised you that it does not, would be inventing the same missing figure twice. What exists is a self-assigned score out of ten and a wear time of 6 to 8 hours on skin. Low projection is not a SOSA label, it is not printed on any of the four pages, and if I handed you a bottle described that way I would be inventing a measurement to sell it. So here is what is published, which is narrower and more useful. The strength figures are SOSA's own self-assigned scores out of ten, on a scale SOSA invented and nobody else uses: Adaa 8.5, Ameeri 9.0, Mastani 9.2 and Nawaab 9.5. Those are SOSA's own numbers on SOSA's own scale, assigned to its own compositions, and the lightest end of the ladder is Adaa at 8.5. Adaa publishes its occasion line as office hours, business lunches, daytime weddings, meetings and summer wear. Adaa publishes Calabrian bergamot, green cardamom and neroli in its opening, jasmine sambac, magnolia and ylang ylang in its heart, and white musk, vetiver and cedarwood in its base. Adaa's mood line reads light, elegant, composed, distinctive without being loud. It is ₹379 for 3ml, ₹669 for 6ml and ₹1,149 for 12ml. Adaa carries 4.9 from 98 published customer reviews. Those are customer reviews Sonal collated over WhatsApp, which is why I quote the count beside the figure rather than the figure on its own. Adaa publishes its gender line as unisex, and the most genuinely gender-fluid attar in the range. All four publish the same wear time, 6 to 8 hours on skin, longer on warm or oily skin, and nothing beyond that figure is published. And then the one variable that is genuinely yours, which matters more on your page than on any other in this set, because the lean-in is a fixed feature of your shift and the dose is not. The published applicator is a built-in dab applicator, which is worth one sentence here because it is the only part of this that you hold: how much goes on is decided by your hand at the moment you apply it, and by nothing printed anywhere. A score printed on a page is the same for everybody who buys that bottle; the amount on your wrist on a Friday night is not, and it is decided in the one second you spend applying it. Finally, the conditional you wrote into your own question, which was the right instinct. Your own employer's policy is the only one that counts here, and it is the one thing on this page you have to check yourself. SOSA publishes nothing about anybody's workplace rule, I do not know yours, and a page that guessed at it would be worth less to you than this sentence. I will not tell you what a supervisor, a head of department or whoever sets the standards where you work has decided either, because the rule is theirs and I have never read it. All four are the same format: a concentrated oil attar with a built-in dab applicator, carried in sandalwood oil and jojoba, alcohol-free and DPG-free. Sonal Sahani trained at ISIPCA, Versailles, she designs all four attars herself, and she signs off every small batch by hand in Pune. A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

In one line: The guest leans in, so the scent arrives before the sentence - and SOSA publishes no figure for that in either direction. What is published: Adaa 8.5, the lightest of four scores, Rs 379 for 3ml, 6 to 8 hours on skin, and 4.9 from 98 published customer reviews.

The lean-in, the ladder and the dab: what is actually in your hands

One fact about your shift, one published ladder and one physical control. The first is real, the second is narrower than it looks, and the third is the only one of the three you can change on the day.

1

The lean-in - the scent arrives before the sentence, and no figure covers it

A guest closing the distance to hear you is the defining proximity of your job, and it is not the same thing as sitting across a desk from somebody all day. It is brief, repeated, and initiated by them. I am not going to reassure you about that half-second and I am not going to alarm you about it either, because both of those sentences would be the same invented figure wearing different clothes.

No projection or sillage figure exists, in either direction. That is the record.

2

The published ladder - four self-assigned scores, and what they are not

The strength figures are SOSA's own self-assigned scores out of ten, on a scale SOSA invented and nobody else uses: Adaa 8.5, Ameeri 9.0, Mastani 9.2 and Nawaab 9.5. That is a real published field and it is the only thing in the range that ranks the four against each other. It is also SOSA's own number on SOSA's own scale, which is why I say so every time I quote it. Adaa's published strength figure is 8.5, the lightest end of the range. Nawaab's published strength figure is 9.5, the deepest in the SOSA attar range. Low projection, as a phrase, is not on any of the four pages, so the ladder is what replaces it - and a ladder of intensity scores is not a ladder of distances.

3

The dab - the one variable your hand sets, every shift

The published applicator is a built-in dab applicator, which is worth one sentence here because it is the only part of this that you hold: how much goes on is decided by your hand at the moment you apply it, and by nothing printed anywhere. On your page that matters more than on most, because everything else here is fixed: the pyramid is printed, the score is printed, the wear time is printed, and the guest leaning in is a feature of the job rather than a choice. The amount is the exception. All four publish the same wear time, 6 to 8 hours on skin, longer on warm or oily skin, and nothing beyond that figure is published. All four are the same format: a concentrated oil attar with a built-in dab applicator, carried in sandalwood oil and jojoba, alcohol-free and DPG-free. If you want to calibrate it, do it on a day off, on your own arm, rather than on a Friday service.

A built-in dab applicator. How much goes on is settled by your hand.

The guest leans in to hear you over the noise, which means your fragrance introduces itself first. It is the most specific proximity in this whole cluster, and the published record has no number for it in either direction.

Adaa's published pyramid, and the lightest score in the range

Adaa publishes Calabrian bergamot, green cardamom and neroli in its opening, jasmine sambac, magnolia and ylang ylang in its heart, and white musk, vetiver and cedarwood in its base. Adaa's mood line reads light, elegant, composed, distinctive without being loud. Adaa publishes its occasion line as office hours, business lunches, daytime weddings, meetings and summer wear. Adaa publishes its gender line as unisex, and the most genuinely gender-fluid attar in the range. Adaa's published strength figure is 8.5, the lightest end of the range. It is ₹379 for 3ml, ₹669 for 6ml and ₹1,149 for 12ml. Adaa carries 4.9 from 98 published customer reviews. Two of its three tier labels carry the word clean in SOSA's own wording: the opening is a clean lifted opening and the base is a clean composure drydown. The heart between them is jasmine sambac, magnolia and ylang ylang, labelled soft white florals, and anybody working a guest-facing shift should know that tier is in there before they buy rather than after.

Adaa 3ml is ₹379 and the 12ml is ₹1,149. The published strength figure of 8.5 is the same on both.

What a guest-facing shift asks, and what the record answers

What you are deciding What is actually published
A guest leans in to hear me No published figure covers it, in either direction. SOSA states no projection and no sillage for any attar, so neither a reassurance nor a warning about that distance is available from the record.
Low projection Not a SOSA label and not printed on any of the four pages. The published substitute is a self-assigned strength score out of ten: Adaa 8.5, Ameeri 9.0, Mastani 9.2, Nawaab 9.5. A score is not a distance.
How much goes on Yours. The published hardware line is a built-in dab applicator, so the amount is decided by your hand at the moment of application, and no printed field in the range sets it for you.
If fragrance is permitted at work Your own employer's rule, which SOSA does not publish and I have never read. No hotel, restaurant or venue policy is stated on this page. ₹379 buys the 3ml once that question is settled.

The rest of the ladder, so the comparison is on printed numbers rather than on adjectives. Ameeri publishes Persian saffron, pink pepper and bergamot in its opening, Taif rose and Indian sandalwood in its heart, and soft oudh, amber and white musk in its base. Ameeri's mood line reads warm, festive, opulent, never theatrical. Ameeri publishes its occasion line as Diwali, Eid, Karwa Chauth, family weddings and festive dinners. Ameeri's published strength figure is 9.0, the festive warm middle of the range. It is ₹385 for 3ml. Ameeri carries 4.9 from 104 published customer reviews. Mastani publishes litchi, bergamot and pink pepper in its opening, night-blooming jasmine and Damask rose in its heart, and Mysore sandalwood, oudh, Madagascar vanilla and tonka bean in its base. Mastani's mood line reads sensual, romantic, never sweet, never sharp. Mastani publishes its occasion line as anniversaries, date nights, evening receptions and signature wear. Mastani's published strength figure is 9.2, the sensual depth end of the range. It is ₹389 for 3ml. Mastani carries 4.9 from 112 published customer reviews. Nawaab publishes Kashmir saffron, black pepper and cardamom in its opening, white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood and aged tobacco leaf in its heart, and amber, leather and white musk in its base. Nawaab's mood line reads regal, refined, long-wearing, never aggressive. Nawaab publishes its occasion line as weddings, boardrooms, important evenings and signature wear. Nawaab's published strength figure is 9.5, the deepest in the SOSA attar range. It is ₹399 for 3ml. Nawaab carries 4.9 from 86 published customer reviews. Only two of the four occasion lines name work at all. Adaa prints office hours, business lunches and meetings; Nawaab prints boardrooms. Ameeri's line is festive and Mastani's is evening, and neither of those two names a working day anywhere. No line in the range names a profession.

In a loud lobby the guest closes the distance, not you. Whatever you are wearing introduces itself first - and there is no published number for what happens in that half-second.

Four things to settle before a guest-facing shift

  1. Settle the permission question first. Your employer's rule, not this page.
  2. Read the ladder: Adaa 8.5, Ameeri 9.0, Mastani 9.2, Nawaab 9.5, out of ten.
  3. The dab is the real control. The amount is set by your hand, not by a field.
  4. Then pick a size: Adaa 3ml Rs 379 to try, 12ml Rs 1,149 for the value.

What SOSA will and will not tell you

The published figures on this page are the battery figures, the bottle size, the three speeds, the one, two and three hour timer and the prices. The oil-consumption rate is not published, so no refill interval and no running cost exist here. Everything about how a scent lands in your car is yours to test, because it depends on your nose and your driving.

From the founder

I am Sonal Sahani, and I compose every SOSA fragrance myself in Pune. I would rather tell you what we measure than guess at what we do not. If a number is not on the product page, you will not find it invented here.

A score out of ten, not a distance

SOSA publishes no projection figure for any attar. What it does publish is a ladder of four self-assigned scores, and Adaa sits at the lightest end of it.

SOSA 15ml hanging car freshener refill

When the bottle runs dry

The 15ml hanging refills are ₹399 to ₹449 depending on the scent. Mysore Orange Blossom is a spray only and has no refill in that range.

Safar is the car diffuser. The waterless nebuliser refills, ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm, are the pure undiluted oils that SOSA sells for Safar and for Vaayu, its larger waterless diffuser.

Questions people ask

Which SOSA attar is low-projection?

None is described that way, because no projection figure and no sillage figure is published for any attar in the range. The published substitute is a self-assigned strength score out of ten: Adaa 8.5, Ameeri 9.0, Mastani 9.2 and Nawaab 9.5. Adaa is the lightest published score, at Rs 379 for 3ml with 4.9 from 98 published customer reviews.

A guest leans close to hear me. Will they get a face full of it?

I cannot tell you, and neither can anybody reading the same record. There is no published figure for what is picked up at any distance, and there is no published figure for the opposite either. The one thing you control is the amount, because the applicator is a built-in dab and the dose is set by your hand.

Is there a trained perfumer behind this?

Sonal Sahani, who founded SOSA and trained as a perfumer at ISIPCA, Versailles. She composes all four attars herself, and every small batch is hand-blended in Pune and signed off by her before it goes out. The attar pages publish that training outright, which is the honest answer to why a hand-blended Pune attar is worth reading about at all.

Does SOSA say whether hotels and restaurants allow staff to wear fragrance?

No, and I will not either. Your own employer's rule is the only one that counts here and it is the one thing on this page you have to check yourself. You wrote the conditional into your own question, which was the right instinct, and I am keeping it there.

How long does one application last across a shift?

The published wear time is 6 to 8 hours on skin, longer on warm or oily skin, and it is identical on all four attar pages. That is the only duration figure SOSA publishes. There is no figure for a twelve-hour shift and no reapplication schedule printed anywhere in the range.

Start with one bottle
