Start with what your ceiling does not do: it does not rank the fragrances under it. It tells you how many mistakes you can afford, and with a range that starts small, that number is higher than it looks. What it leaves open is which characteristics to look for, and that is the real question.
Quick answers — read this first
Which characteristics matter in a premium soft woody attar? A pyramid that names every material from top to base, a base built on wood and a light musk rather than sugar, and a format you can start small on. Price on its own is not a characteristic, and neither is the word premium.

Does the ceiling in my title rule anything out? Almost nothing. Every SOSA attar in every size sits under it, and so does the boxed Attar Trio at its two smaller sizes. Only the Trio's largest set is above it, and the Trio holds Nawaab, which is oud-led and not soft.

Which SOSA attar is a soft woody one? SOSA Ameeri, from ₹385 for 3ml: Indian sandalwood in the heart, white musk, soft oudh and amber in the base. SOSA Adaa, from ₹379, is the drier alternative, with vetiver and cedarwood and no oudh.
The short answer
Short answer: Prioritise a fully named pyramid, a base of wood and light musk, and a small first size. Your ceiling already covers every attar in every size.
The pick: One 3ml of SOSA Ameeri at ₹385 for soft sandalwood, with a 3ml of SOSA Adaa at ₹379 as the drier test. One dab, judged at hour three.
Next step: Tell us what soft means to you, and what you have worn that was not soft enough, and we will say which of the two to open first. Ask for an attar recommendation.
Prioritise the pyramid, not the priceYour ceiling covers every attar in every sizeCharacteristic one: a pyramid named top to baseCharacteristic two: a base of wood and light muskCharacteristic three: a size that lets you testAmeeri from Rs 385 for 3ml; Adaa from Rs 379
Three characteristics in the order to check them, with the budget as the opening line because it is the least useful of the four. The bottom line is the 3ml price, since the cheapest test is also the most reliable one.
Ameeri first, then the drier test, then the sweeter wood
Straight answer
I Want a Premium Soft Woody Attar Under ₹2,000 — Which Fragrance Characteristics Should I Prioritise?
The ceiling in your title is yours, not a price list. Set it aside, check three characteristics in order, and the budget question answers itself. Five steps, ending on a bottle and a way to spend the rest of it.

1. Notice that your ceiling covers all four attars. Every SOSA attar in every size is under the figure in your title, and so is the Attar Trio at its two smaller sizes. The constraint is not money. It is knowing which of them to buy.

2. Prioritise a pyramid that names everything. Top, heart and base, with real materials. SOSA publishes all four in full. A description that says woody notes and stops there gives you nothing to check, whatever it costs.

3. Prioritise a base without sweetness. Soft woody means sandalwood, cedarwood or vetiver over a light musk. Vanilla, tonka, tobacco and leather move it somewhere else. SOSA Mastani and SOSA Nawaab carry them; SOSA Ameeri and SOSA Adaa do not.

4. Prioritise a format you can start small on. An alcohol-free roll-on oil in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml lets you spend on proof before you spend on volume. That is worth more than any adjective on the label.

5. Take Ameeri, and use the rest of the ceiling well. SOSA Ameeri at ₹385 for 3ml is the soft sandalwood. A 3ml of SOSA Adaa at ₹379 as the drier test, and a 12ml of whichever wins, still comes in under your ceiling.

Nobody can promise you what anyone else will make of it, and I will not try. What I can tell you is what each attar is built from, and how to buy it so that a wrong guess costs a small bottle and not a large one.
Your ceiling already covers all four attars in every size. Prioritise a named pyramid, a base of wood and light musk, and a small first size: SOSA Ameeri at ₹385 for 3ml.
What to buy, and how to spend the rest of the budget
The product SOSA Ameeri: Persian saffron, pink pepper and bergamot, Taif rose and Indian sandalwood, then soft oudh, amber and white musk. An alcohol-free roll-on oil on a sandalwood and jojoba carrier, hand-blended in Pune.
The size to start on The 3ml, at ₹385. The 6ml at ₹679 and the 12ml at ₹1,165 come after a full season. Add a 3ml of SOSA Adaa at ₹379 if you want the drier comparison.
Dabs, and where One dab, on the chest or the side of the neck, once you are dressed. One dab stays a hint and two turns it into a statement; soft woody reads best as a whisper.
At hour three The saffron and bergamot have gone. By the published pyramid, sandalwood, white musk, amber and a little soft oudh are what remain: woody, smooth and close to the skin.
What it costs to stay on it Both 3ml bottles and then a 12ml of the winner still come in under the ceiling in your title. SOSA states 6–8 hours on skin, so the 12ml is a sizing decision, not a durability one.
I would not spend your whole budget on one bottle you have not worn. Ameeri first, because it is the soft sandalwood, then Adaa if you want to see dry beside it, then the large size of whichever you keep reaching for. That order keeps you under your number, and it keeps you honest.

Which attars are soft and woody

SOSA makes four attars, all alcohol-free, DPG-free roll-on oils on a sandalwood and jojoba carrier, in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml, and the four are priced close together, so price will not sort them for you. The pyramid will. Two fit a soft woody brief, and the third woody one is sweeter than the words ask.

SOSA Ameeri
The soft sandalwood, with white musk beneath
SOSA Ameeri
₹385 for 3ml, ₹679 for 6ml, ₹1,165 for 12ml. Persian saffron, pink pepper and bergamot over Taif rose and Indian sandalwood, on soft oudh, amber and white musk. It carries some oudh and amber, which is the warmth in it. Of the four, it is the one that lists sandalwood and white musk together, and the clearest soft woody answer.
From ₹385
SOSA Adaa
The drier woody, a useful second 3ml
SOSA Adaa
₹379 for 3ml, ₹669 for 6ml, ₹1,149 for 12ml. Calabrian bergamot, green cardamom and neroli over jasmine sambac, magnolia and ylang ylang, on white musk, vetiver and cedarwood. The lightest of the four, with no oudh. Its woods are dry rather than soft, which makes it the honest comparison for anyone unsure what soft means to them.
From ₹379
SOSA Mastani
The woody attar that is sweeter than soft, so choose it knowingly
SOSA Mastani · alcohol-free roll-on attar
₹389 for 3ml, ₹685 for 6ml, ₹1,179 for 12ml. Litchi, bergamot and pink pepper over night-blooming jasmine and Damask rose, on Mysore sandalwood, oudh, Madagascar vanilla and tonka. A deep floral-gourmand. Its sandalwood is real, but the vanilla and tonka take it a long way from soft woody, so it is a different purchase.

Three characteristics worth ranking

None of these needs a nose trained in perfumery. Each is a characteristic you can check on a product page before you spend anything, and each is worth more than the price or the word premium.

1
One
A pyramid that names its materials from top to base
The first check is whether the page tells you what is in the bottle. A complete pyramid lists a top, a heart and a base, with named materials in each. It lets you predict what you will smell at hour three, which is when you actually live with a fragrance. A page that says only woody and warm has told you nothing you can verify. SOSA publishes all four attar pyramids in full. Ameeri's base is soft oudh, amber and white musk. Adaa's is white musk, vetiver and cedarwood.
Tip: Read the base first. It is the part you will wear for most of the time the bottle is on your skin.
SOSA Ameeri
Ameeri at ₹385 publishes top, heart and base: saffron, rose and sandalwood, then oudh, amber and white musk. Nothing is left as an adjective.
See SOSA Ameeri →
2
Two
A base of wood and light musk, with nothing sweet in it
Soft woody is a base, not an adjective. Sandalwood is the soft wood: smooth and a little milky. Vetiver and cedarwood are the dry ones. Light musk keeps them from turning heavy. What you want absent is the sweet group: vanilla, tonka, caramel, and the smoky one: tobacco, leather. White musk is a base note in Adaa, Ameeri and Nawaab and never the subject; SOSA makes no musk on its own. If a soft woody attar has vanilla in its base, it is a gourmand wearing a wood.
Tip: Search the base for the sweet words. One of them is enough to change the category.
SOSA Mastani
Mastani at ₹389 has Madagascar vanilla and tonka under Mysore sandalwood, which is exactly the base this check is meant to catch.
See SOSA Mastani →
3
Three
A format and a size that let you spend on proof first
The third check is easy to skip because it is not about the fragrance. It is about how you are allowed to buy it. An alcohol-free roll-on oil in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml means you can wear a fragrance for three ordinary days before you commit to a large one. SOSA states 6–8 hours on skin and no more, so the larger sizes are a decision about how long a bottle lasts you, not about how long a dab does. Premium, for this reader, is a bottle that lets you be wrong cheaply.
Tip: Buy the 3ml, wear it three ordinary days, and judge at hour three before you look at any larger size.
SOSA Adaa
Adaa at ₹379 comes in the same three sizes, which makes a 3ml of it a low-cost second test beside Ameeri.
See SOSA Adaa →
The SOSA principle
A budget does not tell you what to buy. It tells you how to buy: small first, in a format you can judge, from a page that names its materials, and only then in the large size of the one you keep reaching for.
That is why the characteristics outrank the figure. A cheap bottle you do not wear and an expensive one you do not wear are the same mistake, and a 3ml is the cheapest way to avoid both.
SOSA Ameeri
The soft sandalwood, and the first 3ml to open: Ameeri at ₹385: Persian saffron, pink pepper and bergamot over Taif rose and Indian sandalwood, on soft oudh, amber and white musk. Alcohol-free, in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml, and carrying some oudh.

The checklist, compared

The table is the checklist in four lines: what to look for on any product page, and what SOSA publishes against it. It works for other brands too, which is the point of a characteristic as opposed to a recommendation.

The SOSA plan
Four things to check on any soft woody attar, and what SOSA publishes
The characteristic to check What to look for, and what SOSA publishes
SOSA AmeeriA pyramid named from top to base
Look for real materials at every level. SOSA publishes all four attars in full, so Ameeri's base reads soft oudh, amber, white musk and Adaa's reads white musk, vetiver, cedarwood. View →
SOSA AdaaA base with no sweet or smoky word in it
Scan for vanilla, tonka, tobacco and leather. Adaa and Ameeri have none. Mastani has vanilla and tonka, and Nawaab has tobacco and leather. View →
An oil you can start small on
Look for a trial size and a stated carrier. All four attars are alcohol-free, DPG-free roll-on oils, in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml.
Claims that stop where the evidence stops
Distrust a page that promises more than it can show. SOSA states 6–8 hours on skin, and no projection figure and no outcome for anyone.

If the soft side is the part that matters, which sandalwood attar reads soft and clean rather than as incense is the page to read next, and a refined unisex attar that is clean with a little warmth takes the same Ameeri-and-Adaa choice from the side of balance. If the question is staying close, what makes a woody attar wear close to the skin explains the mechanism, and sandalwood-musk or vetiver-musk for a dry, clean reader settles the Ameeri-against-Adaa fork if dryness is what decides it. If you would rather have a person decide, tell us what soft means to you and we will answer in plain words.

SOSA Adaa
The drier comparison, a second 3ml: Adaa at ₹379: Calabrian bergamot, green cardamom and neroli over three white flowers, on white musk, vetiver and cedarwood. The lightest of the four attars, with no oudh, in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml.
Soft sandalwood or drier woods: two honest answers
The fork is what soft means to you. Ameeri is sandalwood over white musk, smooth and a little warm. Adaa is vetiver and cedarwood, drier and lighter. Open the one that matches your word, and keep the other for the comparison.
See the SOSA AmeeriSee the SOSA Adaa
A budget is not a quality signal. It is the number of mistakes you can afford, and a 3ml of a fully published pyramid is how you make each one cheap.

The SOSA specification for soft woody

Two rows. Ameeri is the answer for the reader who wants soft sandalwood, and Adaa is the answer for the reader who finds soft too round. The note underneath says how to spend the remainder of your budget, and what neither bottle is.

The SOSA specification for soft woody
Ameeri for soft sandalwood, Adaa for the drier test
Attar Best for Why it works Price
SOSA Ameeri Soft sandalwood over white musk, a step of warmth ₹385 for 3ml. Saffron, pink pepper and bergamot over Taif rose and Indian sandalwood, on soft oudh, amber and white musk. Carries some oudh ₹385
View →
SOSA Adaa Drier woods, the least in the bottle ₹379 for 3ml. Bergamot, green cardamom and neroli over jasmine sambac, magnolia and ylang ylang, on white musk, vetiver and cedarwood. No oudh ₹379
View →
Both rows start small: the 3ml of Ameeri at ₹385, or the 3ml of Adaa at ₹379. The larger sizes are a purchase for after a full season, not instead of one: ₹385 for 3ml, ₹679 for 6ml, ₹1,165 for 12ml for Ameeri, and ₹379 for 3ml, ₹669 for 6ml, ₹1,149 for 12ml for Adaa. Both 3ml bottles and then a 12ml of the one you keep come in under the ceiling in your title. The Attar Trio holds Nawaab, which is oud-led and not soft, so it is not part of this plan. White musk is a base note in Adaa, Ameeri and Nawaab and never the subject. SOSA states 6–8 hours on skin for the attars and nothing further; how long any fragrance lasts depends on skin, dose, clothing and the day. A patch test on first use is the only skin advice we give. Nobody can promise you what anyone else will think of it, and I will not. Ours is a contact page and a person who replies: Ask for an attar recommendation and tell us what soft means to you.

A note from Sonal

I do not set a price on taste, and I do not think a ceiling tells you much about what you will like. What it tells me is how to advise you. With a ceiling this comfortable I would never put your whole budget on one bottle you have not worn. I would put a small piece of it on the soft sandalwood, a small piece on the drier one, and keep the rest for the large size of whichever you reach for.

The word premium is the one I would be most careful with. In a fragrance it can mean the materials, the blending, the bottle or the marketing, and a page will rarely tell you which. What I can offer is narrower and checkable: full pyramids for all four attars, an alcohol-free oil on a sandalwood and jojoba carrier, blended by hand in Pune, and sizes that let you test before you commit. Ameeri carries some oudh, and I would rather you read that here than discover it.

So the advice is small. One 3ml of Ameeri, one dab, three ordinary days, and a judgment at hour three, when the saffron and bergamot have gone and the wood and the musk are what remain. If it is softer than you wanted, or drier, the second 3ml will tell you. Nobody can promise you what anyone else will make of how you smell, so the only measure is yours. A portion of every purchase supports Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

Does a higher price mean a better soft woody attar?
Not on its own. The four SOSA attars are priced close together, so price will not sort them for you; the pyramid will. I would compare what is in the base, whether the page names its materials, and whether you can start small. Those are checkable, which price and the word premium are not.
Which size should I buy within my budget?
The 3ml first, at ₹385 for Ameeri or ₹379 for Adaa, wherever your ceiling sits. Wear it three ordinary days. Then the 12ml of the one you keep, at ₹1,165 or ₹1,149. The 6ml sits between the two if twelve feels like a lot.
Is the Attar Trio a good fit for a soft woody brief?
Not really. The SOSA Attar Trio holds Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani, and the other two are further from soft: Nawaab is oud-led with tobacco leaf and leather, and Mastani carries Madagascar vanilla and tonka. It suits a reader exploring the deeper end, not one who has asked for soft.
How do I tell premium from marketing on a product page?
Look for named materials at every level, a stated carrier, a stated wear time with no inflated claim, and no promises about how other people will respond. SOSA states 6–8 hours on skin, publishes all four pyramids in full and makes no claim about anyone else's reaction. That is the standard to hold any page to.
What if Ameeri is not soft enough, or not dry enough?
Then you have learned something for ₹385 and not for the 12ml. If it was too warm, SOSA Adaa is the drier step. If it was not warm enough, SOSA Mastani is the sweeter one. Tell us what you smelled at hour one and hour three and we will say honestly which, or whether the range is not for you.
SOSA Mastani
The woody attar to skip on this brief: Mastani at ₹389 has night-blooming jasmine and Damask rose over Mysore sandalwood, oudh, Madagascar vanilla and tonka. Deep and sweet, and further from soft woody than the word suggests.
