Pune is where I blend, so this is the climate Adaa was actually written for: dry 40°C summers, a real monsoon, a mild winter, and a commute that for a great many people is on two wheels.
Quick answers — read this first
What is specific about Pune? Three genuine seasons, none extreme, plus a two-wheeler commute for many people - which means wind, dust and sun on exposed skin.
What works year-round here? One light dry composition at one to two dabs, adjusted by season rather than replaced.
Which one?Adaa - composed here, tested in exactly this weather.
The short answer
Clean is an effect, not a family. It comes from three things together: a bright citrus-green top, no sugar anywhere, and a clean white musk base that reads as skin.
The non-negotiable. No sugar. Sweetness is the single thing that stops a fragrance reading as clean, and it is in most "fresh" bottles. Every SOSA attar is alcohol-free and DPG-free.
SOSA in one line. Alcohol-free, DPG-free, IFRA-compliant attars on a jojoba and Mysore sandalwood base, 6-8 hours on skin, 3ml / 6ml / 12ml, ₹379-₹1,199, hand-blended in Pune.
Start here. For clean, Adaa 3ml at ₹379 - bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk. It is the only genuinely clean composition I make.
Illustrative only. Clean is an effect rather than a fragrance family: a bright citrus-green opening gives the first impression, and a clean white musk base is what still reads as clean at hour four.
So which fresh attar suits Pune for office and commutes?
A light dry composition at one dab in summer and two in winter. Pune is the gentlest of the major Indian fragrance climates - dry 40°C summers rather than humid ones, a real but not endless monsoon, and a winter mild enough that nothing needs putting away. That means one bottle honestly covers the year if you adjust the dose. The two-wheeler factor matters too: wind strips a fragrance faster, which is an argument for an oil that binds to skin rather than a spray that sits on it. Adaa was composed here for exactly this.
Short version: one bottle, one to two dabs, adjusted by season. Pune does not require a wardrobe.
Want the short path?Adaa — composed in Pune, tested in this weather from the start.
I have a conflict of interest here since this is where I work, so treat the enthusiasm accordingly - but the climate genuinely is the easiest in urban India to dress for.
What "clean" actually means
Clean is not a fragrance family - it is an effect, produced by a specific combination: bright citrus and green materials on top, no sugar anywhere, and a clean white musk base that reads as skin rather than as perfume. Remove any one of those three and the effect collapses.
1
Criterion one
Three real seasons, none extreme
Dry heat in April and May, a proper monsoon from June, and a mild winter. Each is genuine enough to change how a fragrance behaves and none is severe enough to require a different bottle. Adjust the dose - one dab in May, one or two in the rains, two in January - and one composition covers the year.
2
Criterion two
The two-wheeler commute
Wind strips a fragrance considerably faster than still air, and an exposed ride in April adds sun and dust. An oil attar binds to skin and survives this better than a spray sitting on the surface. Apply at the base of the throat under a collar rather than on exposed wrists.
Alcohol evaporates unevenly on sweating skin and stings on freshly shaved or cracked skin, and its sharp first minutes are the opposite of a clean impression. An oil attar sits in the skin's own oils and releases slowly - which is why alcohol-free and DPG-free matters more for a clean scent in India than for any other style.
4
Criterion four
Soapy and clean are not the same thing
Soapiness comes from a specific combination - aldehydes, powdery musks and certain white florals - that reads as a bar of soap rather than as skin. Some people love it; many people asking for clean specifically do not. A clean-skin effect avoids the powder and keeps the musk transparent, which is the difference between smelling washed and smelling like the bathroom.

"Pune is the easiest major fragrance climate in India. One bottle honestly covers it."

Where SOSA sits - and where another attar might suit you better
Adaa exists because of a Pune May - a rickshaw at eleven in the morning and an office at twenty-two degrees by noon. Everything about the composition follows from that day.
The honest position
One bottle, dosed by season. No wardrobe required.
Where I think we earn a place on your shortlist: a composition developed and tested in this exact climate, alcohol-free for a two-wheeler commute, and scalable across all three Pune seasons. Where another house might suit you better: Pune's mildness means almost anything works here, so buy what you like rather than what the weather demands.
"Clean means weak." It does not. Clean is about the materials - no sugar, clean musk, bright top - not about strength. A clean fragrance can last eight hours and still read as skin.
✕
"All fresh fragrances smell the same." Most of the cheap ones do, because they lean on the same handful of inexpensive fresh materials. The difference is what sits underneath - real cardamom and neroli, or nothing.
✕
"Clean is boring." Only when it is thin. A clean composition with real material is quietly interesting all day - reviews here are illustrative, not a guarantee.
One dab in May, two in January, and nothing else to think about. Adaa is my Pune answer, for obvious reasons.
The SOSA attar range
All four are alcohol-free and DPG-free in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml. In Pune: Adaa year-round at one to two dabs; the others for evenings and the winter.
"I just want to smell clean" is the single most common thing anyone says to me, and it is a harder brief than it sounds - because clean is not a fragrance family. It is an effect, and it takes three things at once: a bright citrus-green opening, a clean white musk base that reads as skin rather than as perfume, and no sugar anywhere.
That third condition is why so many bottles sold as fresh do not stay clean. Sweetness is inexpensive and it tests well at a counter, so it finds its way into almost everything - and by hour three you are wearing something that announces itself as perfume rather than as a person who is well-groomed.
Adaa is the only genuinely clean thing I make, and I would rather say that plainly than stretch the word across my whole range. I do not make an aquatic and I do not make a standalone white musk. If those are what you want, buy them from someone who does - and if a clean citrus-green-musk is what you are after, mine is worth your ₹379.
Frequently asked questions
Is a clean attar suitable for the office?
It is the best thing for an office. Adaa sits close to the skin rather than dispersing across a shared, air-conditioned room, and at one dab it reads as well-groomed rather than as perfumed. It was written for exactly those hours.
Which SOSA attar smells cleanest?
Adaa - bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk. It is the only genuinely clean composition in the range; Ameeri is warm, Mastani is rich and Nawaab is deep, and I would not sell any of them as fresh. From ₹379.
How much should I apply for a clean effect?
One dab at the base of the throat, on dry skin. Clean is a close-range impression by definition - anything that fills a room is reading as perfume rather than as grooming, and over-applying is the most common way people lose the effect.
Does "clean" mean the fragrance is weak?
No. Clean is a property of the materials - no sugar, a clean musk base, a bright top - not of the strength. SOSA attars wear 6-8 hours on skin, and the clean effect lasts as long as the scent does because the musk base is what creates it.
How long does a clean attar last on skin?
6-8 hours for the SOSA range, slightly longer on warm or oily skin. The citrus impression fades within the first hour; what remains, and what still reads as clean, is the musk base.
