4. If you want a switch rather than something always on, ₹1,198 does it. A Boond at ₹899 plus a 15ml Hotel Collection fragrance at ₹299 comes to ₹1,198 and covers about 150 sq ft while it is running. Three to six drops a tank means a 15ml gives you many fills, so the running cost is very low. The trade is that it only works when switched on and filled, where a reed diffuser runs unattended for four months.
5. Whatever you choose, it will not reach further. Nothing at ₹1,500 covers a bigger room than anything else at ₹1,500. Why ₹1,500 stops being a product question and becomes a rooms question
At ₹1,000 there is one answer and no decision to make. At ₹1,500 there are two credible answers and they point in opposite directions, so the budget forces you to ask something you may not have asked yet: how many air spaces am I actually trying to scent? Not how many rooms the flat has — how many are occupied for hours at a time with the door shut. Fragrance does not pass a closed door, and it does not pass a corridor either. A 900 sq ft flat with five closed doors is five air spaces; the same flat with everything open is one. Count the ones with people in them. If the answer is one, the 130ml is correct and the ₹251 stays in your account. If it is two, the duo is correct and you will pay about ₹29 a room-week more for the privilege of not waiting.
The second thing this budget teaches is that cost per week and cover are separate purchases. One 130ml gives 16 room-weeks for ₹1,249, or about ₹78 each. The duo gives 14 room-weeks for ₹1,498, or about ₹107 each. The duo is worse on both counts as pure arithmetic — fewer room-weeks, more money — and it is still the right buy for a household with two occupied rooms, because a room-week in a room you are not in is worth nothing. This is the point at which spreadsheet logic and household logic separate, and the household wins. Reeds, rooms, and the reorder you are quietly choosing
Whichever route you take, set the reeds to the room rather than using all six. Reed count is the only volume dial a reed diffuser has, and it moves consumption and strength together. Six is an entrance or living-room setting; four suits a bedroom; two or three suits a small bathroom. On the 130ml route, four reeds pushes the bottle from about sixteen weeks towards eighteen, which takes ₹78 a week down towards ₹69. On the duo route it does the same for both 50ml bottles, moving them towards eight weeks each and about ₹94 a room-week. This is the only free money in the whole budget and most people leave it on the table because six reeds came in the box.
Understand the reorder you are signing up for. The 130ml route means one purchase roughly every four months — about three a year for that room, or ₹3,747 on Morning Freshness. The duo route means both bottles finishing within a fortnight of each other, about seven weeks after you start, and a repeat purchase of ₹1,498 landing in one go. If that is awkward, stagger them deliberately: run the second bottle on three reeds for the first fortnight so the two do not empty together. Staggering costs nothing and turns one large repeat bill into two smaller ones.
Then move towards the bigger size as rooms prove themselves. The sensible two-year sequence for most homes is duo first to find out which rooms actually earn fragrance, then a 130ml in the room that won, then a 300ml refill at ₹2,399 once you are certain of the scent — ₹8.00 a millilitre against ₹14.98 for a 50ml, and about ₹65 a week. Count the rooms with people in them and the answer appears.
I normally tell people to ignore the duo's ₹50 saving, because ₹50 is not money. At exactly ₹1,500 it happens to matter, since the same two bottles bought separately are ₹1,548 and do not fit. That is the only time I will argue for it on price, and I would rather flag the coincidence than let it look like a deal.
