Where to hang it (and where not to)
The single biggest mistake people make with a hanging car freshener is treating it like decoration - dangling it wherever it looks nice. Placement is not cosmetic. It decides how the scent travels, how long it lasts, and whether anyone in the back seat gets a faceful of fragrance for an hour.
My rule is simple: shaded, with airflow, away from faces. The two best spots in most cars are the rear-view mirror stem and a headrest post. Both keep the diffuser moving slightly as you drive, which helps the scent circulate, and both sit out of the worst of the sun.
The shade rule
A parked dashboard in Indian summer sun can hit 65-70°C. That heat does not make a hanging diffuser smell stronger in a good way - it drives the oil off far too fast and can warp the throw. Keep the diffuser off the dashboard and out of direct sun. A spot that is shaded for most of the day, with a little airflow from the vents, gives you the longest, cleanest life.
Avoid hanging it right in front of a passenger's face - a front-seat occupant should not be staring at it from twenty centimetres away. The reed sits in the oil and draws it upward, the same way a reed diffuser works at home. As it reaches the exposed part, the fragrance lifts off into the cabin. This is why a hanging diffuser is a mild, continuous format - the reed meters the release for you. You are not getting a burst; you are getting a steady, gentle background.

Loosen the stopper a little and more of the reed and oil surface is exposed, so the throw rises. Keep it snug and the scent stays subtle.
