Three or four functions, three or four gifts, and the same hundred people at most of them. That is the real brief, and it is why the obvious plan - a different scent for every event - is the one that goes wrong. Scents do not stay in their own boxes: they share a store room for a fortnight, they get opened in the same house, and a guest who receives three unrelated fragrances ends up with a muddle rather than a memory. There is a better structure, and it is not more expensive. Pick one register for the whole wedding, then change the product from function to function. Here is exactly how to build that, what it costs from ₹379 a guest, and when a genuinely different scent per function is the right call.
Quick answers — read this first
How do you plan different fragrance gifts for each wedding function? Hold the scent constant and change the format. Choose one register for the whole wedding - fresh citrus and green, garden floral, or warm woody and amber - then give a different product from that family at each function: an alcohol-free attar from Rs 379 at the mehendi, a spill-proof 15g solid perfume tin from Rs 459 or a car perfume from Rs 449 at the haldi, and a hand-poured jar candle from Rs 379 or a reed diffuser from Rs 749 as the wedding day gift. Each function feels different because the object is different, but the fragrance builds instead of competing, and a guest who attends all three ends up with a small coherent set rather than three strangers.
Can each wedding function have a completely different scent? It can, and it works only under specific conditions: different guest lists per function, gifts handed out at different venues, and enough storage that the stock is not sitting in one room together. Where the same guests attend everything, different registers collide in three places - in the store room where all the boxes wait, in the car or bag where a guest carries them home, and in the house where they are opened. Fragrances stored together bleed into each other, and three strong unrelated scents in one room is a muddle rather than a theme. The honest recommendation for a normal Indian wedding, where the same families come to every function, is one register carried across all of them with the product and the depth varied.
What does a multi-function fragrance gift plan cost? Build it from published single-unit prices and multiply by the headcount for that function. A worked example for a wedding with roughly 100 guests at each event: mehendi, 100 attars at Rs 379 is Rs 37,900; haldi, 100 solid perfume tins at Rs 459 is Rs 45,900 or 100 car perfumes at Rs 449 is Rs 44,900; wedding day, 100 jar candles at Rs 379 is Rs 37,900. A close-family tier of 20 Attar Trios at Rs 1,055 adds Rs 21,100, and 10 reed diffusers at Rs 749 for the wedding party adds Rs 7,490. Headcounts differ by function, so cost each one separately, and settle quantities, delivery point and in-hand dates in a direct conversation.
The short answer
Short answer: The workable plan is one register for the whole wedding with a different product at each function: attars from Rs 379 at the mehendi, solid perfume tins from Rs 459 or car perfumes from Rs 449 at the haldi, and jar candles from Rs 379 or reed diffusers from Rs 749 on the wedding day. Different scents at every function collide, because the boxes share a store room, a guest carries several home in one bag, and the same families attend everything - so the scents blur instead of building. Costs at 100 guests per function: Rs 37,900 for attars, Rs 45,900 for solid perfumes, Rs 37,900 for candles, plus 20 Attar Trios at Rs 1,055 for close family, which is Rs 21,100. Different registers per function make sense only when the guest lists genuinely differ.
The pick: a SOSA gift matched to the life they live - personal fragrance from ₹379, home fragrance from ₹379, the Safar for their car (₹3,999), the Vaayu for their business (₹11,999).
Shop: the SOSA gifts collection - alcohol-free, beautifully packaged, from ₹299.
The best fragrance gift is matched to the life the person lives: a scent for their skin, their home, their daily drive - or the business they are proudest of. SOSA covers the whole ladder, from a Rs 379 attar to the Rs 11,999 Vaayu, every step alcohol-free and beautifully packaged.
Should each function get its own fragrance, or should the whole wedding share one?
One register, different products. Here is the structure. 1. Choose the register once. Fresh citrus and green, garden floral, or warm woody and amber - pick the family the couple would happily live in, and everything else follows. 2. Mehendi gets the smallest format. Hands are covered, bags are full: an alcohol-free attar from ₹379 goes in a pocket and gets met at home. 3. Haldi gets the practical format. It is messy and outdoors, so a spill-proof 15g solid perfume tin from ₹459 or an alcohol-free car perfume from ₹449 lands better than anything breakable. 4. The wedding day gets the keepsake. A hand-poured jar candle from ₹379, or for close family a reed diffuser at ₹749 to ₹799 that runs for six to ten weeks after everyone has gone home. 5. The collision warning. Different registers at every function do not stay separate: the stock shares a store room for a fortnight, a guest carries two or three home in one bag, and they get opened in the same house. Scents stored together bleed, and the guest ends up with a blur instead of a memory of your wedding. 6. The costs. At 100 guests: ₹37,900 in attars, ₹45,900 in solid perfumes, ₹37,900 in candles. Add 20 Attar Trios (₹1,055) for close family at ₹21,100. Cost each function on its own headcount, and settle quantities and dates in a real conversation. Made in India; a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: one register for the whole wedding, a different product per function - attar ₹379 at the mehendi, solid perfume ₹459 at the haldi, candle ₹379 or reed ₹749 on the wedding day - because different scents at every function collide in the store room, the bag and the house.
The gifting ladder at a glance: an attar for them (from ₹379), a reed diffuser or candle for their home (from ₹379), the Safar for their car (₹3,999), the Vaayu for their business (₹11,999) - all alcohol-free, all ready to gift.
One register, different products - and why the other way collides
Three parts to get right - the one decision that governs everything, the collision that catches families out, and the function-by-function mapping that turns it into an order you can actually place.
1
The one decision
Choose the register first, and only once
Everything in a multi-function plan gets easier the moment you fix the scent family, because after that you are only choosing objects. Three registers cover almost every wedding. Fresh citrus and green is the daytime answer, and it is the one with the fewest enemies across a mixed guest list of all ages. Garden floral is warm and celebratory, and it sits naturally with marigold, rose and the visual language of an Indian wedding. Warm woody and amber, in the oud, saffron and sandalwood direction, is the traditional and evening-leaning choice - the register of Nawaab at ₹399. Pick the one you would want the house to smell of six months from now, and then stop choosing. What makes this powerful is not aesthetics, it is memory: a guest who meets the same family of scent at the mehendi, at the haldi and again on the wedding day has that register filed permanently against your wedding. Three unrelated scents file nothing, because there is nothing repeated for the memory to hold on to.
Tip: pick the scent family once and then only choose objects - repetition is what turns a fragrance into the smell of your wedding.
2
The collision
Scents do not stay in the boxes you put them in
This is the part that surprises families, and it is entirely physical rather than aesthetic. Three hundred boxes of fragrance do not arrive on the morning of each function; they arrive together and wait in a spare room, a garage or a friend's flat for a fortnight, stacked. Fragrance migrates. Reed oil, candle wax and perfume oils all give off scent through packaging over days, and a room holding three unrelated registers ends up smelling of all of them, faintly and unpleasantly - which means the boxes do too. Then it happens again at the guest's end: someone who attended all three functions is carrying two or three of your gifts home in one bag and opening them in the same small flat. A single register survives all of this, because everything smells of the same thing anyway. Mixed registers arrive muddled. If you genuinely want different scents per function, the physical requirement is separation - different rooms for storage, sealed outer boxes, and ideally different guest lists - and most families do not have that.
3
The mapping
Let the function decide the object, not the scent
Now the easy part. Match the product to what the day is actually like. Mehendi is long, seated and daytime with hands out of action, so give the smallest sealed thing you have: an attar from ₹379. Haldi is messy and often outdoors, so give something that cannot spill or break and does not mind heat: a 15g solid perfume tin from ₹459 or an alcohol-free car perfume from ₹449. The sangeet is evening and celebratory, and guests have bags and cars, so a hand-poured jar candle from ₹379 works comfortably. The wedding day is the keepsake, so this is where the fuller gift belongs - a luxury jar at ₹599 to ₹799, or for the wedding party and close family a reed diffuser at ₹749 to ₹799 that keeps working for six to ten weeks after the last guest has flown home. Each function feels distinct because the object is distinct, and the scent quietly runs underneath all four.
Tip: the function decides the object - smallest at the mehendi, spill-proof at the haldi, the keepsake on the wedding day.
The SOSA principle
Vary the gift, never the scent. One register across every function compounds into a memory; four registers cancel each other out in the store room before the guests ever meet them.
Attar at the mehendi, solid perfume or car perfume at the haldi, candle or reed on the wedding day - one family of scent running underneath all of it, from ₹379 a guest.

Fragrance gifts matched to the person - skin, home, car or business - from ₹299 to the ₹11,999 Vaayu. Alcohol-free, beautifully packaged, made in India.
Four different scents do not make four memories. They make one blur - and it starts in the store room, weeks before the guests ever open a box.

Honest gifting notes: fragrance is personal - when you do not know their taste, choose a gift set (the Attar Trio, ₹1,055) or a home fragrance rather than a personal scent, and favour widely-loved families (sandalwood, citrus, soft florals) over polarising ones. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by the world's finest hotels; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with any hotel brand. Ultrasonic diffusers use the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance; the Safar and Vaayu run waterless oil - the formats are not interchangeable. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal
The gifts people remember are rarely the most expensive - they are the most seen. A scent is exactly that: it enters the person's daily life - on their skin, in their living room, in the car they drive to work, in the shop they built from nothing - and every time they meet it, they think of you.
That is why I built the SOSA range as a ladder rather than a shelf: an attar for the person, a candle or diffuser for their home, the Safar for their car, the Vaayu for their business. Match the gift to the life they live and it stops being a thing and becomes a habit - the daily moment where your gift keeps arriving. Everything is alcohol-free, long-lasting and handmade in small batches in India.
One honest note: fragrance is personal. If you do not know their taste, pick a gift set so they can choose, or scent their space instead of their skin - a home or car fragrance flatters almost everyone. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Frequently asked questions
Will guests really notice that the functions share one scent family?
Not consciously, and that is exactly why it works. Almost nobody at a wedding thinks in terms of registers or scent families; what happens instead is that the third time a guest meets something in the same family, it stops being a nice smell and becomes familiar - and familiarity attaches itself to the occasion. Months later the association surfaces without being asked for: she opens the candle, and the wedding comes back. That is the whole mechanism, and it only works on repetition. What guests do notice consciously is variety in the objects, which is why changing the product at every function matters - a pocket roll-on, a tin, a candle and a reed feel like four different gifts even though they are one idea. Vary what they see, hold steady what they smell.
What if the bride's family and the groom's family are giving gifts separately?
Then agree the register between the two families and let each side choose its own products. It is a five-minute conversation that saves the exact collision this page is about, because guests who attend both sides' functions will otherwise carry home two entirely different fragrance worlds from one wedding. If the two families cannot align, the next best structure is to separate by function rather than by product type - one side handles the mehendi and sangeet, the other the haldi and reception - so at least each event is internally coherent and the guest's bag has fewer arguments in it. What genuinely does not work is both families independently giving a fragrance at the same function, which happens more often than you would think and leaves guests with two of something and none of the other.
Can we mix formats within one function, for example candles for family and attars for everyone else?
Yes, and this is the tiering that works best. Within a single function, keep the register identical and vary the size of the gift: an attar at Rs 379 or a candle at Rs 379 for the general list, and a fuller gift for the wedding party, the close family and the people who travelled a long way - a reed diffuser at Rs 749 to Rs 799 or the Attar Trio at Rs 1,055. Two order lines, no sorting confusion, and the tier is visible without being awkward because the scent is shared. What to avoid is tiering by scent, where the family gets the expensive-smelling one and everyone else gets something different, since that is the version guests notice and mind. Tier the object, never the fragrance.
How far in advance should a multi-function gift plan be ordered?
Earlier than feels necessary, because you are ordering several lines rather than one and every extra line is another thing that can be delayed. Fix the register and the products at least a few weeks before the first function, confirm headcounts per function - they genuinely differ, since a haldi is often family-only while a reception is everyone - and order with ten to fifteen percent spare on each line. Then settle the practical questions in an actual conversation with the seller rather than assuming: what quantities are workable, where the delivery goes, and what in-hand date you need for the earliest function, not the wedding day. The one thing that ruins a good plan is discovering in the final week that the mehendi gift was needed five days before the wedding gift and nobody had said so.
Is it wasteful to give the same guests something at every function?
It is only wasteful if the gifts do not add up to anything. A guest who attends three functions and receives three unrelated objects has been given three things to find room for. The same guest given an attar, a solid perfume and a candle in one register has been given a small coherent set, and sets get used - the roll-on goes in the handbag, the tin in the car or the travel bag, the candle on the shelf. That is the argument for planning it as one idea rather than three separate purchases. If your budget is tight, the honest move is not to give something smaller at every function but to give properly at two of them and skip the third, or to hand a single fuller gift at the function everyone attends. Fewer, better-used gifts always read as more generous than four tokens.
