This is the arithmetic page. Three columns, five steps, one worked example: a building with twelve rooms on a plan usually resolves into three or four zones and three machines, and the number falls out of the worksheet rather than out of anyone's opinion.
Quick answers — read this first
How do I calculate how many scent machines I need for multiple rooms? List every separately air-conditioned volume as one zone, not every room. For each zone, multiply floor area by ceiling height in feet, divide the cubic feet by 35 to get cubic metres, then divide by 1000 - that is the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) count for that zone, since one Vaayu covers 1000m³. Any zone that comes out above 1000m³ is better served by one SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) at 3,000m³ than by two smaller machines.
Do rooms on the same air-conditioning count as one zone? Yes, if the air actually mixes. Rooms on one ducted loop, or cabins around an open floor with doors open through the day, behave as a single volume and take one machine between them. Only a room with its own air-conditioning and a door that stays shut becomes a separate line on the worksheet and a separate SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999).
What is the quickest way to convert floor area into cubic metres? Multiply square feet by ceiling height in feet, then divide by 35. A 1,600 sq ft space at 10 ft is 16,000 cubic feet, about 453m³, which is well inside the 1000m³ one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) covers. A 3,000 sq ft atrium at 20 ft is about 1,700m³, which is SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) territory.
The short answer
Short answer: list separately air-conditioned zones rather than rooms, convert each to cubic metres by dividing cubic feet by 35, then divide by 1000 for the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) count per zone; any zone above 1000m³ becomes one SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) instead of two smaller machines.
The pick: one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) per zone up to 1000m³, and one SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) for any single zone between 1000m³ and 3,000m³.
Next step: send a room schedule with areas, ceiling heights and the air-conditioning zoning, and we will fill in the worksheet for you - book a free scenting plan.
The worksheet has three columns: zone name, cubic metres, machine. Everything else - room count, door count, budget - is noise until those three columns are filled in.
How do I calculate scent machine quantity across multiple rooms and zones?
Build a three-column worksheet: zone name, cubic metres, machine. Step one, define the zones - and a zone is a separately air-conditioned volume, not a room. Rooms on one ducted loop, or cabins around an open floor whose doors stand open through the day, are a single zone because their air mixes. A conference room with its own split unit and a closed door is its own zone. Step two, convert: area in sq ft times ceiling height in feet gives cubic feet, and cubic feet divided by 35 gives cubic metres. Step three, divide each zone by 1000m³, which is what one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) covers, and round up. Step four, apply the step-up rule: a zone that lands above 1000m³ should not become two small machines, it should become one SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) covering up to 3,000m³, ideally on the HVAC. Step five, put the same fragrance in every machine on the list. Worked example, a real shape we see often: Zone A, reception and open desks, 1,600 sq ft at 10 ft = 16,000 cubic feet = about 453m³, one Vaayu. Zone B, the first floor on its own splits, 2,600 sq ft at 10 ft = 26,000 cubic feet = about 736m³, one Vaayu. Zone C, the atrium, 3,000 sq ft at 20 ft = 60,000 cubic feet = about 1,700m³, which is one Angaan. Twelve rooms on the plan, three zones on the worksheet, three machines in the order. Honest note: none of this substitutes for ventilation and cleaning, fragrance cannot cover paint, adhesive or damp, and we make no claim that scent influences a purchase decision. Send the room schedule and a free scenting plan will fill the worksheet in with you.
Zone name, cubic metres, machine. Cubic feet divided by 35, then divided by 1000, is your Vaayu count per zone. Above 1000m³ in one zone, use an Angaan.
Every line of the worksheet resolves into one of two machines. The SOSA Vaayu - 1000m³, 400ml tank up to 75 days, under 38dB, app timers, key-lock - covers any zone up to 1000m³. Anything larger in a single zone is an Angaan.
However long the room schedule is, the worksheet only ever resolves into two machines. Both images link to the live product pages so the numbers can be checked against the specification.
Waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft at normal ceiling height. 400ml tank lasting up to 75 days, Bluetooth app with 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, under 38dB, key-lock for public spaces.
Each separately cooled zone gets its own machine running the same fragrance. Freestanding, wall mounted or HVAC mounted, waterless, with nothing to settle on finishes or paperwork.
HVAC nebulising diffuser rated to 3,000m³, about 8,000-10,000 sq ft, with an 800ml reservoir, metal body, programmable schedules and under 42dB running. One machine for a zone two smaller units would cover unevenly.
1000m³ coverage (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft), 400ml tank lasting up to 75 days, Bluetooth app and 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, under 38dB, freestanding or wall and HVAC mount, auto-stop and key-lock. DC 12V/1A, 5W. CE, RoHS and SGS certified. Made in India.
The three-column worksheet that gives you the number
The worksheet has three columns and two rules. The columns are zone, cubic metres and machine; the rules are how you define a zone and what happens when a zone gets big.
1
Column one - define the zone
A zone is a body of air, not a room on a plan
Merge rooms that share air: one ducted loop, or an open plan whose cabin doors stay open. Separate anything with its own air-conditioning and a door that stays closed - a conference room, a closing room, a treatment room, a director's cabin. Write each zone on its own line with a name you will still recognise in six months, because this list becomes your refill schedule as well as your order.
Tip: merge on shared air, split on sealed air. Twelve rooms usually become three or four lines.
Each line up to 1000m³ resolves into one Vaayu - waterless, under 38dB, with a key-lock for public zones.
Do not skip the height. A 1,600 sq ft zone at 10 ft is about 453m³; the same footprint under a 20 ft roof is about 906m³, and a 3,000 sq ft atrium at 20 ft is about 1,700m³. The divide-by-35 shortcut is exact enough for planning, because 1m³ is about 35.3 cubic feet. Write the number beside the zone name and resist rounding it down to fit a budget.
One Vaayu per 1000m³ of connected air is the whole conversion from column two to column three.
Round up within a zone, then apply the step-up rule
Divide each zone by 1000 and round up. A 453m³ zone is one machine; a 736m³ zone is one machine; a 1,700m³ zone is not two machines, it is one Angaan. Two Vaayu inside one zone is only defensible when the shape is awkward - an L-plan, or a long corridor - and even then place them at opposite ends of the airflow, never facing each other. Then set every machine to the same fragrance and the same schedule.
Tip: round up within a zone; step up rather than doubling up.
Any single zone above 1000m³ belongs to the Angaan, which covers up to 3,000m³ on the building's own airflow.
Nobody has ever regretted writing the zone list down. The regret is always on the other side: a shelf of machines bought against a room count, half of them scenting air that was already scented.
Rooms are architecture. Zones are air-conditioning. Only one of them decides the order.
One machine per zone up to 1000m³: SOSA Vaayu, 400ml tank lasting up to 75 days, Bluetooth app with 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, under 38dB, key-lock, ₹11,999.
Here is the worked example as a table - four typical zones and what each resolves into. Yours will look much the same once the room schedule is collapsed into bodies of air.

Zone and volume
What it needs
Zone A - reception and open desks, 1,600 sq ft at 10 ft, about 453m³
One SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999), placed on the air path near a return. View →
Zone B - first floor on its own splits, 2,600 sq ft at 10 ft, about 736m³
One SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999), same fragrance, same intensity as Zone A. View →
Cabins off Zone A with doors open through the day
Nothing extra. They are inside Zone A already and take fragrance from its air. View →
Zone C - atrium, 3,000 sq ft at 20 ft, about 1,700m³
One SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) on the HVAC, not two smaller machines fighting in one volume. View →
When a single zone goes past 1000m³: SOSA Angaan covers up to 3,000m³ - about 8,000-10,000 sq ft - on your HVAC, with an 800ml reservoir and programmable schedules, ₹25,999.
Two machines close out any worksheet. The Vaayu covers a zone up to 1000m³; the Angaan covers a single zone up to 3,000m³ and does it on the airflow the building already moves. Both are waterless, so nothing damp and nothing residual on finishes, and both are made in India. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One caution about the worksheet: do not round a zone down to make a budget work. A 1,300m³ zone given one Vaayu will read strong at one end and thin at the other, and you will end up buying the second machine anyway. Honest note - fragrance works alongside ventilation and cleaning, never instead of them, and cannot cover paint, adhesive or damp. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel, and we make no claim that scent influences a purchase decision. Send the schedule and a free scenting plan will return the completed worksheet.

A note from Sonal
People ask me for a number and I ask them for a list. Not a list of rooms, which an architect has already drawn, but a list of the bodies of air a building actually contains. Those two lists are almost never the same length, and the gap between them is where multi-machine budgets go to die: twelve rooms on a plan, twelve machines on a quotation, and three zones in reality.
The worksheet is three columns wide. Zone, cubic metres, machine. Area times ceiling height in feet, divided by 35, gives you cubic metres; divide by 1000 and you have your Vaayu count, because that is what one covers. The only rule that needs judgement is the step-up: a zone above 1000m³ should become one Angaan rather than two smaller machines, because two units inside one volume never settle into one level.
The honest part, which belongs on every worksheet I send out: fragrance is not a correction. It works alongside ventilation and cleaning, it cannot cover fresh paint, adhesive or damp, and I make no claim that it influences what anyone decides to buy. What it does is make a building feel consistent from zone to zone, which is a modest and real thing. Everything is made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate the number of scent machines for multiple rooms?
Collapse the rooms into zones first. A zone is a separately air-conditioned volume, so rooms on one loop with open doors count as one. Then for each zone multiply floor area by ceiling height in feet, divide the cubic feet by 35 to get cubic metres, divide by 1000 and round up. One SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 covers 1000 cubic metres, so that division is your machine count per zone.
Do cabins and small rooms need their own machines?
Only if they have their own air-conditioning and a door that stays shut. A 120 sq ft cabin at a 10 ft ceiling holds about 34 cubic metres of air and takes its fragrance from the corridor every time the door opens. Sealed rooms are the exception and get their own machine at a lower intensity.
What if one zone comes out at more than 1000 cubic metres?
Step up rather than doubling up. Two machines inside one volume overlap near each unit and go thin between them. One SOSA Angaan at Rs 25,999 covers up to 3,000 cubic metres and connects to the HVAC, so the fragrance travels on airflow the building is already moving.
Is dividing cubic feet by 35 accurate enough?
Yes, for planning. One cubic metre is about 35.3 cubic feet, so the shortcut is within a couple of percent, which is far inside the margin that intensity settings cover. What matters much more is not skipping the ceiling height, because that is where floor-area estimates go badly wrong.
Should every zone run the same fragrance?
Yes. Different scents in adjacent zones make a building read as several buildings, and the transition is noticeable at every doorway. Run one profile everywhere, at the same intensity except in sealed rooms where a step softer reads better, and change all machines on the same day.
The worksheet turns into an order: One SOSA Vaayu per zone up to 1000m³, same fragrance in every unit, refilled on one shared cycle. ₹11,999.
Zone, cubic metres, machine. That is the whole worksheet.
