The question in the title has a one-word answer, and I could stop there. What is worth the rest of the page is the reason, because the belief that two machines cover twice as much is the single most expensive misunderstanding in commercial scenting, and it costs people ₹11,999 a time.
Quick answers — read this first
How many scent machines does a 2,000 sq ft kitchen showroom need? One. A SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, placed upstream on the air path. 2,000 sq ft at a ten-foot ceiling is about 566 cubic metres against a rating of 1000m³, so one unit covers the floor with headroom and runs at a low setting rather than at its limit. Total hardware spend: ₹11,999. The interesting question at this size is not how many, it is where.

Why not two machines, one at each end? Because coverage figures are written for one machine in one room and they do not add across a shared volume of air. Two sources in the same connected space produce two gradients that overlap in the middle, so instead of an even room you get two strong ends and a join a customer walks through in the main aisle. You have also doubled the number of settings that can drift and the number of tanks somebody has to remember. One source, correctly placed, reads more even than two.

When would a second machine ever be right? When there is a second volume of air, which means a real boundary rather than a line on a plan: a separate floor, a consultation room whose door closes, a wing on its own air-conditioning zone. That is two rooms with one machine each, at ₹23,998, not two machines in one room. If your 2,000 sq ft is genuinely open plan, the second unit has nowhere of its own to be and it will simply compete with the first.
The short answer
Short answer: one. A 2,000 sq ft showroom holds roughly 566 cubic metres of air at a ten-foot ceiling and a SOSA Vaayu is rated to 1000m³, so a single machine at ₹11,999 covers it comfortably. Two machines in one connected volume overlap rather than add, producing a join in the aisle. Total hardware spend: ₹11,999, and a second unit belongs only to a genuinely separate volume of air.
The pick: one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) upstream on the air path, wall mounted or specified into the supply side of the air handling, away from the return grille and never inside a display kitchen.
Next step: send the floor plan with the AC supply and return positions marked and a note of every door that closes, and we will tell you whether you own one volume of air or two - Ask for a retail scenting plan.
2,000 sq ft - the answer is one, and here is why2,000 sq ft x a 10 ft ceiling = about 566m³ of airOne Vaayu, rated to 1000m³. The answer is one unit.Coverage overlaps in a shared volume; it does not addTotal hardware spend: ₹11,999, correctly placedDouble height = about 1,132m³, and that does change it
Two machines in one room is the commonest way a showroom spends ₹23,998 on a result worse than ₹11,999 would have bought. The seam it produces is real, it sits in the main aisle, and no setting fixes it.
The 2,000 sq ft machine - tap for the specification
Straight answer
How many scent machines does a 2,000 sq ft modular kitchen showroom actually need?
One. A SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, and the entire hardware spend is ₹11,999. Start with the sum, because it is short. Two thousand square feet is about 186 square metres, and at an ordinary ten-foot ceiling that is roughly 566 cubic metres of air. The Vaayu is rated to 1000m³. One machine covers your floor with real headroom, which means it runs at a low setting rather than working at its limit - and a machine running low is quieter, more consistent and easier to live with over a ninety-minute consultation. Now the part that costs people money. Coverage figures are written for one machine in one room, and they do not add across a shared volume of air. Two units at opposite ends of an open display floor do not give you 2000m³ of coverage. They give you two overlapping gradients: strong at each source, falling towards the middle, and somewhere in the main aisle a join where one profile hands over to the other. That join is perceptible in a way that a single gentle gradient is not, because a customer walking a display run passes through it, and a change is exactly what a nose notices. You have also doubled the number of dials that can drift, the number of tanks somebody has to remember, and the number of machines that need switching off before a cooking demonstration. So a second machine is not neutral. It is a way of spending ₹23,998 to make a room read less evenly than ₹11,999 would have. A second machine belongs to a second volume of air, never to a second corner of the same floor. A second volume means a real boundary: another storey, a consultation room whose door closes, a wing on its own air-conditioning zone. Two rooms, one machine each, at ₹23,998 - that is a specification. Two machines in one open room is a mistake with a receipt. One thing genuinely changes this arithmetic, and in this category it changes it often: ceiling height. A double-height 2,000 sq ft unit holds roughly 1,132 cubic metres, which is past a single Vaayu's rating, and no second freestanding unit in the same volume solves that neatly. Mount the machine low, because warm air rises and takes the fragrance up with it; give any genuinely separate volume its own unit; and if you have central air handling, that is the point where the SOSA Aangan at ₹25,999 becomes a fair conversation instead. Standing conditions, as ever. If the floor still smells of laminate, adhesive or new joinery, buy nothing yet, because fragrance is never used to mask another smell and is never a substitute for ventilation, extraction or cleaning. And plainly: no one can promise that ambient scent moves footfall, enquiries or order value, and a supplier quoting you a figure is not measuring, they are selling. Ask for a retail scenting plan and send the floor plan.
One machine. 2,000 sq ft is about 566m³ against a Vaayu rated to 1000m³. Two units in one volume overlap rather than add, and the join sits in the aisle. Total hardware spend: ₹11,999.
One SOSA Vaayu does a 2,000 sq ft floor - rated to 1000m³ against about 566m³ of air, waterless, under 38dB, with a 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill, app timers and a key-lock. ₹11,999. A second unit in the same volume adds an overlap, not coverage, so the list ends here.

Why two machines make a room less even

Three things happen when you put a second source into a shared volume, and only the first one is obvious. Read all three before you order a spare.

1
Understand what a coverage figure means
It describes one machine in one room, so it does not add
A rating of 1000m³ is a statement about how far one source can hold a level in a single body of air. Put a second source in the same body of air and you have not created a second 1000m³ - you have created a second gradient inside the first one. The two overlap through the middle of the room, and overlapping gradients are not the same thing as combined coverage. The correct question is never how many machines the square footage buys, it is how many separate volumes of air the building contains. At 2,000 sq ft, open plan, with one air-conditioning zone, that number is one, and one volume takes one source.
Tip: Ask a supplier how their figure behaves with two units in one room. The honest answer is that it overlaps.

2
Find the seam before you create it
Two sources hand over to each other somewhere, and it is usually the main aisle
A single source produces a gentle fall from one end of a floor to the other, and a gentle fall reads as natural because it is what a well-kept building does. Two sources produce something different: two strong regions with a handover between them. Walk a display run through that handover and you cross a change rather than a gradient, and a nose notices changes far more readily than levels. In a kitchen showroom the handover almost always lands in the main circulation aisle, because that is the middle of the room and the middle is where both machines are weakest. No setting fixes it. You can only move a source or remove one.
Tip: If a floor already has two units, switch one off for a week before you judge the other.

3
Count the things that can drift
Every extra machine is another dial, another tank and another demo-day switch
The operational cost of a second unit is easy to overlook and it is real. Two dials means two settings that can drift upwards across a season, so both need the key-lock on and both need the number written down. Two tanks means two refill dates, though the 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill keeps that manageable. And if you run live cooking, both machines have to come off before a demonstration and stay off until the extraction has cleared the room - and the one that gets forgotten is always the one furthest from the office. One machine has one of each of these. That is not a small advantage on a busy floor.

The SOSA principle
A coverage rating describes one source in one body of air, so putting two into the same room does not double the reach - it creates a second gradient inside the first, and the place they hand over to each other is a seam your customer walks through.
Which is why the honest count is of volumes of air rather than of square feet or of machines.

The placement plan

Since the quantity question answers itself, everything useful at this size is about position. This is the order I would work in.

The SOSA plan
A 2,000 sq ft kitchen showroom, one machine, placed properly
The step What to do
Do the cubic sum
Length x width x ceiling height in metres. About 566m³ at ten feet, about 1,132m³ if the unit is double height. The second number changes the answer; the first does not.
Count the volumes
Real boundaries only: a wall to the ceiling, a door that closes, its own AC zone. An open 2,000 sq ft floor is one volume and takes one source.
SOSA VaayuChoose the machine
One Vaayu at ₹11,999. Total hardware spend: ₹11,999. A second unit in the same volume is an overlap with a price tag.
Find the supply and the return
Place near where conditioned air enters and away from the return grille. A tissue held to the grille shows you the direction in seconds.
Place and mount
Upstream of the display run, roughly a metre up or wall mounted, low rather than high in a tall unit. Never at the door, never inside a display kitchen.
If a corner reads flat
Move the machine, do not add one. Uneven distribution is an air-path map rather than a capacity problem, and a second source usually makes it worse.

If your floor is bigger than this, the answer genuinely branches for the first time and that is set out in how to fragrance a 3,000 sq ft modular kitchen experience centre. If the problem you actually have is that some parts of the floor read strong and others read as nothing, that is an air-path question answered in how to create even fragrance distribution across display zones. The underlying sum is in how to calculate the right scent-machine capacity. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel.

SOSA Vaayu
Only for a second volume: A second Vaayu belongs to another storey, a room whose door closes, or a wing on its own AC zone. Two rooms, two machines, ₹23,998.
One machine, one volume of air
SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 covers up to 1000m³ - a 2,000 sq ft floor holds about 566m³, so one unit runs low.
See the SOSA Vaayu Book a scenting plan
Nobody has ever walked into a showroom and thought, there are two diffusers in here. What they notice is the moment in the aisle where the room changes its mind, and that moment is the second machine.

The SOSA specification at this size

One machine covers a standard-height 2,000 sq ft floor, with the Aangan listed for the point where a double-height volume or a much larger building takes the decision into the air handling. Cold-air refill oil is not currently sold separately, so the 400ml supplied runs 90+ days a fill and continuity of supply should be confirmed with SOSA. Installation support, warranty and bulk terms are not published either. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Count volumes of air rather than square feet, place the one machine on the air path before you argue about the level, and buy nothing while the floor still smells of its own fit-out. Ambient scent here is a presentation decision like lighting or display styling; it is never used to mask another smell - not laminate, not adhesive, not cooking - and it is never a substitute for ventilation, extraction or cleaning. A note from Sonal

The most expensive sentence in commercial scenting is one nobody says out loud: if one machine covers half of it, two will cover all of it. It sounds like arithmetic. It is not arithmetic, because coverage is not a quantity you can pour into a room in instalments. It is a description of what one source does to one body of air, and a second source does not extend the first one, it argues with it.

I have walked plenty of large showrooms with two units running and the fault is always in the same place. Not at either end, where both owners are pleased, but a third of the way down the main aisle where the two fields hand over. You feel the room change as you walk. It is not unpleasant exactly, it is just untidy in a way that a single gentle fade never is - and untidiness in the air is the one thing a customer registers without being able to name it.

So: one Vaayu at ₹11,999 for a 2,000 sq ft floor, total hardware spend ₹11,999, and a second one only if you can point at a door that closes between them. If the unit is double height and you have central air handling, the honest next conversation is an Aangan at ₹25,999 rather than a second Vaayu. Dry register, nothing edible - our own Fresh Brew at ₹849 is coffee and vanilla and stays out of a kitchen showroom. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

How many scent machines do I need for a 2,000 sq ft kitchen showroom?
One. A 2,000 sq ft floor at a ten-foot ceiling holds about 566 cubic metres of air, and a SOSA Vaayu is rated to 1000 cubic metres, so a single machine at Rs 11,999 covers it with headroom and runs at a low setting. Total hardware spend is Rs 11,999. The useful question at this size is not how many machines but where the one machine goes on the air path.
Why do two machines not cover twice as much?
Because a coverage figure describes one source in one body of air. Put a second source in the same connected space and you get two gradients overlapping rather than double the reach. They hand over to each other somewhere in the middle, usually in the main aisle, and a nose notices a change far more readily than it notices a level. You also double the settings that can drift and the machines to switch off before a cooking demonstration.
When is a second machine actually correct?
When there is a second volume of air, which means a real boundary rather than a zone drawn on a plan. Another storey, a consultation room whose door closes, or a wing on its own air-conditioning circuit. That is two rooms with one machine each, at Rs 23,998, which is a specification. Two machines in one open room is a different thing entirely, and it makes the floor read less evenly rather than more.
Does a double-height 2,000 sq ft unit change the answer?
Yes, this is the one condition that does. At twenty feet the same floor holds roughly 1,132 cubic metres rather than 566, which is past a single Vaayu's rating. Adding a second freestanding unit to the same volume does not solve that cleanly. Mount the machine low, because warm air rises and carries fragrance up with it, and if there is central air handling the Aangan at Rs 25,999 becomes the fairer conversation.
Will more machines make my showroom smell more premium?
No, and past a point they make it read worse. What a customer registers is coherence rather than quantity, and the intensity test is simple: if someone can name the fragrance, it is too strong. No one can promise you that ambient scent moves footfall, enquiries or order value either, and a supplier quoting you a figure is not measuring anything. Spend the second machine's money on placement, lighting and cleaning instead.
SOSA Vaayu
If the unit is double height: About 1,132m³ is past one Vaayu's rating, and with central air handling the Aangan at ₹25,999 becomes the fairer conversation.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the planning advice applies to any brand.

Facts verified 5 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with adjustable intensity, a 400ml refillable tank lasting 90+ days a fill depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, operation under 38dB at 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification, which are electrical and compliance marks and not medical approvals. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or equipment. The SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is an ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering roughly 270-320 sq ft and is supplied with three 15ml fragrances; the water-based Hotel Collection (₹299 / ₹999 / ₹1,799) is an ultrasonic fragrance and is not a refill for a waterless cold-air machine. SOSA reed diffusers are alcohol-free and phthalate-free, with 50ml lasting about 6-8 weeks and 130ml about 14-18 weeks. Cold-air refill oil for the Vaayu is not currently sold separately - the machine ships with 400ml included and further refills should be confirmed with SOSA. Warranty, annual maintenance, installation and bulk terms are not published and should be confirmed before ordering. Ambient scent is an interior and hospitality decision: it makes no clinical, therapeutic or wellbeing claim, it works alongside proper ventilation, cleaning and infection control and is never a substitute for any of them, it is never used to mask another smell, and no claim is made that fragrance influences a patient's decision or any commercial outcome. Clinical areas including procedure, post-procedure and photography rooms are left unscented, and the treating clinician's judgement overrides any scenting plan in their own room.
